#because last month I was rewatching Good Omens
Text
A lot has already been said about Good Omens. And I think the most beautiful thing about it is that, as WE, the fans, try to analyse it to make sense of the events that came to pass in the last episode of season 6, we're also learning a bit more of ourselves, through the lens and perspective of the different characters.
It's sort of a comfort movie, a kind of therapy and self-reflection. So here we are empathising and learning to hold space for the characters that we dearly hold close to our hearts. (More like brain rot, if you ask me.) For me, I've gained a better understanding of myself over these past weeks (oohh it's actually months now!)
And I think we'll keep going back to it until we make sense of Crowley's heartbreak (even the depth of him sauntering vaguely downwards) and Aziraphale's choices. As we continue to simply wish for Muriel to get their ineffable parents back together:)
Like can I also say there are so many layers to it? It's astounding, brilliant, and deserving of the word, ineffable. The genius of its writing—metaphors, imagery, symbolisms, easter eggs and most significantly, the integrity of the characters.
Because just when you think you've figured it out, you reread the book, rewatch the series, stumble through a TikTok video or Tumblr post, and you learn something new! Ineffably chaotic. Ineffably human. Ineffably curious!
So here's to the world and to the ineffable idiots' endgame, where they get to live together for all eternity in their garden of Eden, where Crowley no longer puts the fear of Crowley to his plants, books and books upon shelves scattered through the garden, and the Bentley parked underneath the Tree of Knowledge.
At night, they have a better view of the galaxy when the solar system finally gets moved to the centre of the universe.
Let there be light. Let there be a happy ending. 🪽🐍

I am so sad that we don't get "one episode per week" anymore.
Especially for shows like Good Omens. Can you imagine?? The end would have been so much heart breaking because we would have had way more time to enjoy the sweetness of the rest of the season.
I would have loved to exchange with everyone on each little details of each episode. Because there are so many awesome and wonderful scene and moments. Because we would have rewatch each episode so many times every week and have edits of those episode only... I miss it. We would have theorized about Jim's Box and the match box, and ineffable bureaucracy. We would have analysed each and every word of Crowley and Aziraphale just in the hope of catching a glimpse of what was to come next week.
I also think it is better for shows! Like you talk more about a show around you if the release last for more than a month and people are crazy about it.
So yeah I think streaming services are killing themselves with this format. You BUILD a community. You don't get it in a snap of the fingers in one week end. The rise of the pink ladies and EVERY GODDAMN SAPPHIC SHOW proved it.

There's one thing about Aziraphale from this scene I keep thinking about and that is his face.
Tumblr media
In the last couple of months I watched some other things with Michael Sheen - Bright Young Things, The Damned United, Prodigal Son, also rewatched Staged, lots of interviews and saw some snippets from Masters of Sex (planning to watch it soon!). And in all of them Michael is an absolutely different person. He is an undeniably great actor. So I guess I can say that like many of you here, I've seen several different faces of Michael Sheen.
Moreover, I saw Good Omens multiple times largely because I've made a few fan vids. There's one I made devoted to Aziraphale in particular for which I rewatched seasons 1 and 2 exclusively looking at Michael's face. It's here.
My point is that that face in the gif is not Aziraphale's face. He's never had such a facial expression, neither before nor after this scene.
It's not a conspiracy theory, I promise. I just wanted to say that I think this is purely Michael's face - the one you sometimes can see in the interviews or in Staged (for obvious reasons, he's more like himself there).
And for me, this short moment is not Aziraphale looking at Crowley with tenderness, but Michael having heart eyes for David. I really love this idea and there's no way someone could convince me otherwise.
And a bonus one:

Time for an old school blog post, Hello!
Just various updates about life and shows and clothes and some photos! Adding a read more cut because I talk too much 😊
Happy equinox everyone!! The mild weather has been wonderful for daily park walks. We have been taking our meals outside as often as we can to make the most of it before summer scorches the land and all life. The longer days allow for a lot more wandering too but the imminent return of the heat is also making the longing to move up north worse by the day. We miss the choppy ocean and seaside cliffs 😭 We love the silence and the rain and the nippy sea breeze!! it's like being suspended in early spring for half the year and a rainy autumn the other half, Ideal if you don't mind humidity, but that's what wellies and flat caps are for. We have been looking for properties to rent to show up everyday so for now we lie in wait.
Speaking of nature, a few months ago we discovered a free app called Plantnet that you use to take and upload photos of plants, trees, flowers and it will identify them for you. You keep a log with their locations and can share them too to help contribute to each local biodiversity database. It feels like a pokedex for plants. There are many apps like this one to choose from too. It's been so fun learning what all these plants are called and memorizing them! I recommend it, is like a little educational side quest to take on while stretching your legs and getting some fresh air. This is not an ad I promise lmao I just think it's neat! kind of sad feeling the need to clarify that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This weather is also making me want to start making outfit posts again! It's been so long since I made any!! my winter wardrobe is mostly long wool coats or capes and boots so the inspiration wasn't there but now I'm ready to pull out all my stuff back from under my bed storage and experiment again 👏 I've also been meaning to share some of Nicolas outfits for ages too so there is more variety, could be fun!
Speaking of clothes, lately I've grown more and more frustrated with how poorly most clothes fit me to the point where I'm considering learning how to make them from scratch. I usually have to take in the tops and hem the bottoms but most things I try on are just built weird even if I fix the size, or maybe I'm built weird! I think it may be both. Nicolas also said he would love to learn along with me so we will probably embark on that adventure soon. OH and on a short tangent, I got myself a sort of binder-like top that flattens the chest a bit and I'm loving it! I'm very flat already but what little bust I do have has always bothered me when I dress and I've found I feel a lot more comfortable in this type of top. I'm glad I tried it out so if you feel similarly you may want to give it a go too, see how it feels!
On the media side of things we have also been watching more of David Tennant's work. We are still very much in love with him to an embarrassing degree, you can probably tell if you follow me anywhere, my likes on twitter alone give me away alksjdf and Nicolas isn't any better! if he used social media his would look the same lmao.
Since my last report we have watched and absolutely LOVED "There She Goes" we already want to watch it again honestly. The family dynamics for all his characters are always so real and refreshing!! Their relationship with their wives especially are always so believable in every series we've seen, the comfort and camaraderie, the banter and just friendship! You can tell they enjoy each other's company, it feels true. I love it so much!!
We also watched "Inside man" which was..a very stressful mess but David was incredible as always, also very hot and very pitiful which is always great, and Stanley Tucci was on it! so that's also fun.
Then we rewatched season one of Good Omens and the first 4 seasons of Doctor Who, with all the extra content like the Confidentials, deleted scenes, video diaries and more, they are just so good!! our list of favourite episodes keeps growing, season four is incredible, we are loving all these seasons even more the second time around!! Now we are probably going to start watching either Classic Who or Torchwood, along with more of David's work. We were trying to pick what to watch during dinner the other day and Nicolas was like 'damn, David is not in this though, I miss him' and lmao same so now we just watch one show without him and one with him right after to cope 😂
OH we have also been doing more historical reenactment! Since the last one in the 20's we jumped back to Regency times. We have been putting our outfits together for a ball soon and hopefully another one in autumn in the UK 😊 1800 is the farthest back in time we've been yet so it's been fun doing research, finding pieces and learning the dances in class but also very hectic. I'll share more about this soon!
Tumblr media
Then we also have a couple of 1900 events coming soon, so I'll be sharing more Edwardian looks as well, our favourite era!!
Anyway I think that's all for now, thanks for reading to whoever is doing so!! I know this is long and not a popular blogging format anymore but I enjoy it a lot, maybe some of you do too 🥰 I will reply to some messages soon, I'm so sorry I'm so bad at keeping up with those!! I've read them all and cherish every word 🥺 Thank you for supporting my art and shenanigans as always!! I hope you have a great week!!

Tag 9 people you want to know better - thank you for the tag @enigmaticxbee 💗
Currently reading: 11.22.63 by Stephen King. It's my first King's, I'm ~ 30% in and I'm enjoying it so far!
Last song: Sparks Fly by Taylor Swift
Currently watching: nothing at the moment because I'm still processing the five months immersion in The X-Files universe. I'm rewatching random episodes to cope with the emptiness and waiting to be in the mood to watch something else again.
Current fic: I'm reading snakebitten by onpaperfirst - I love being in a "new old" fandom because there is so much to read!
Next on my watchlist: I haven't watched the second season of Good Omens yet, so maybe I'll watch that. Or Our Flag Means Death, that has been on my watchlist forever.
Current obsession: someone took every single thought in my brain and replaced it with txf. It's a (beautiful) curse and I see no way out.

"Tale as old as time", or how Good Omens planted a seed in my soul that's growing more and more (bettah) [2/2]
[Continues from Part 1] Then we started watching S2, and as it happens in any good mystery story, clues became evidences. Crowley and Aziraphale started laying their cards on the table. Throughout the episodes, they act more and more like an "us" and we get used to the idea that their side is a fact. No matter what happens, they will face it together, as they did more and more in the last 6.000 years of their "tale as old as time". Being a coup... ehm, "group of the two of us" without telling themselves and each other, walking on a wire. And then came the rainstorm, the canopy, Jane Austen, the ball, Beelzebub and Gabriel going off together, Nina and Maggie talking with Crowley. The moment not only the characters but the audience, too, realize that the ineffable love could be actually named and told. "Just a little change, small to say the least / Both a little scared, neither one prepared." It was pure revelation, mind-blowing and delightful. After 9 long years, I finally knew that they loved each other, that I loved them, and that I wanted them to be happy together, forever. If I could feel it so deeply, I wonder what it could have been like for Neil himself to discover that the two characters he knew so well from almost 30 years were in love with each other. And then, after 6 "quiet, gentle and romantic" episodes, exploring the evolution of the characters and their relationship and mutual influence through the time (6.000 years of bickering, longing glances and building trust in each other, "bittersweet and strange, finding you can change, learning you were wrong"), the last 15 minutes suddenly came and leave them (and us) heartbroken, as their love is told and denied in the very same moment. It was painful and devastating. And here I am now. Two months have passed since I saw S2 E6, and all that I, all that we can do is wait (and see, hopefully). But it's not, it can't be as before. Something in me has definitely changed. Or rather, it woke as if it had been long asleep. And it grows better and better. This story made me feel things I hadn't felt for years. It's making me feel love, and pain, and longing, and hope. It made me remember how great stories (amazing lies) can make you experience true, deep feelings ("true as it can be"); and it awoke my desire to tell stories and share feelings as well, a wish that had lied sleeping in the back of my mind for a long time. So yes, I am obsessed with GO, but it's not just about this story I love, it's also about me, I believe. And all the time in-between reading the book, watching S1 once, rewatching it and then watching S2 lead me to this, because things can develop and grow only with time. So I guess I should be grateful for that heartbreaking cliffhanger. If S3 had already been there for us to watch, I would have already consumed the answers I wanted. My mind would be at peace and probably none of this would have happened. Instead, I find myself full of questions (about the story, and about my life), I'm restless and eager, I'm painfully alive. And I feel like a new path, a new chapter, is opening before me. "Certain as the sun rising in the East", in the next years I'll be waiting for Neil to tell us about the "Neighbour of the Beast", and in the meantime I'll try my best to cling to that feelings as a precious gift, don't let them go, nurture them and use them for the best. There are many things I wish to thank @neil-gaiman for, but this is probably the most important so far.

Heyy, hope you're better now after that Good Omens s02 ending, and if not, sending lots of long hugs - actually sending hugs either way 🫂 (I rewatched the season on this new year and cried yet again, plus yeahh, every post about the final fifteen hits right to the core ):).
Sorry if the question is weird but you mentioned in a recent post about listening to an old hindi song from a 1990s military movie which also reminded you of AziraCrow. Being a native hindi speaker, I was excitedly interested but couldn't guess the original song from the translated lyrics. So if possible, could you please tell which song it was? And if any other hindi songs you've heard that might remind you of the Ineffable Husbands. I remember, for more than a few months, almost all songs I listened to reminded me of them as well - Salamat, from the movie Sarbjit, is the one that's popping up in my head right now, soo if you're interested, definitely recommended!
Again, sending hugsss, and now that the third season is renewed, may we get closure soon! B'byeee!
Hello anon maggot thank you so much take all the hugs too. We're all dying together with brainrot, aren't we.
The Hindi song in question is Har Koi Chahtha Hai (Ek Mutthi Asaman), the title song of an old movie. Thank you for the song rec! I'm afraid I don't know many songs in Indian languages, and you've probably heard all of these, but Akhiyaan, Agar Tum Saath Ho, Tum Hi Ho, and Baarish remind me of our favourite ineffable idiots. I've linked them in case any maggots who haven't heard these want to.
(for non-Hindi speakers, the last one Baarish reminds me of them because baarish means rain, and Crowley's method for falling in love involving a rainstorm and getting two people wet and staring into each other's eyes lives rent free in my head)

Tag nine (9) people you'd like to know better. Honestly not sure I know nine people on tumblr but here goes. Tagged by @starfishlikestoread, thank you!!
Last Song: The Great War by Taylor Swift
Currently Watching: Finally got around to watching RWRB two nights ago! Not sure what to watch next … potentially rewatching Gotham, but suggestions gratefully accepted 😊
Currently Reading: The Battle for God: A History of Fundamentalism by Karen Armstrong as my more serious read. Somewhat dated (published 2000) so I wouldn't use it as a guide to modern fundamentalism (and its language regarding Islam can feel particularly jarring, imo) but I enjoy her writing and find it pretty accessible. Also rereading A Gentleman in Moscow, my comfort book (Starfish if you haven't read it I would strongly recommend - strong themes of "Russian noble ideals / codes of honor coming into conflict with modernization and changing society" and it's full of very dry humor to boot)
Current Obsession: I'll be honest, it's still the last episode of Good Omens 2. Like I'm sorry, one queer character refusing to return to the church Heaven because it's hurt him too badly and he doesn't want to change himself to be 'worthy' of being accepted back into the fold and another queer character choosing to return to the church Heaven because he believes it should be a force for good and he wants to make it better for the people who come after?? And you wanted me not to think about this 24/7 for the next month?? Surely you jest.
Tagging: @tragediegh @maykendehoutman @goddammitjim @lttrsfrmlnrrgby @southern-continent-skies @chimericaloutlier @jamesruusshukur @love-and-shadows and @fauvester - no pressure!

People I Wanna Know Better
Thanks for thinking of me, @sanguinarysanguinity :)
Last song?
My son has been singing Tale As Old As Time from Beauty and the Beast all day. He's super adorable doing it, too, and you've gotta love a classic <3 We miss you, Angela Lansbury.
My funniest musical adventure from this week, though (as you know, Sang), was finding out that David McCallum -- who apparently played oboe and arranged orchestral scores, having studied music at first before switching to acting -- recorded a jazz number in the 1960s which then got sampled by Dr. Dre in the 1990s to create what, according to my brother, is 'definitely one of the most famous hip hop beats of all time' (warning: explicit language including the n word).
Who knew? Like a good secret agent, his influence pops up where least expected!
Favorite color?
Blue-green.
Currently watching?
Not much of anything lately, to be honest. I just haven't found time to fit in a movie at the end of the day, and I don't have any new TV shows I'm currently following. But I'm sure I'll catch the Dr. Who specials when they come out in a month or two. I might watch Loki season 2. And I do still like to read and watch movie reviews and collect a 'to be watched' list for myself.
A couple films that came out this year that sound good & I would like to catch up with are Rye Lane ("Raine Allen-Miller reinvents the romantic-comedy genre utilizing vibrant colors, a fisheye lens, and British rap to present a truthful depiction of London that celebrates Black joy in Rye Lane." -Jillian Chilingerian; "Rye Lane is a shock to the system and the current landscape of romantic comedies. It’s loving, genuinely humorous, and an effortless crowd pleaser. A beautiful, energetic reminder that love is worth going after time and again." -Tina Kakadelis)
and Fancy Dance ("Cloaking a family drama in crime-film conventions, the plot of Native American filmmaker Erica Tremblay’s exceptional directorial debut concerns a young woman’s disappearance from an Oklahoma reservation and her family’s urgent attempts to locate her....not even halfway through the film, Tremblay (who is from the Seneca-Cayuga nation) and co-writer Miciana Alise’s keenly observant script has touched on a disconcertingly complex array of social issues, including endemic poverty, racism, foster care, and drug and alcohol abuse in Native communities. For the filmmakers, though, it’s the crisis of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls that provides the film’s thematic throughline. Handled with candor and grace, these concerns are well integrated into the narrative and dialogue (often in the Cayuga language) so that they’re recognizable, but not melodramatically manipulative." - The Hollywood Reporter)
I'd also like to rewatch some Man From UNCLE, catch up with Spielberg's West Side Story, watch the latest Indiana Jones movie (which despite all the negative press my brother says was good fun), and sometime maybe get around to the Sandman series from last year and Good Omens 2 from this year.
Last movie?
Uhhhhh, maybe Mission Impossible 7 back in July?
Sweet/spicy/savory?
I dislike spicy. I like savory just fine. I like sweet best, but I have had to learn to seek it out in new forms this year. In January my blood test results indicated I was approaching the upper edge of what's considered pre-diabetic and edging close to full-on Type 2. I have been at high risk to develop it, not only due to family history, but also because I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant a decade ago. I was told at that time that 1 in 2 women with gestational diabetes go on to develop type 2 within 10 years, and, ahaha, look at the time. So, this year I have been working much harder to reverse those trends and make healthy changes to my diet and get more active. I joined a Diabetes Prevention Class (there's a national program for this, by the way, though it's not well-advertised. My doctor didn't tell me about it, because they never told me anything, but I found a search engine online that helped me find classes locally. Mine is a free, virtual, 12-month program run out of a nearby hospital as a community health initiative and geared toward helping people make lasting lifestyle changes using a small support group style). All this is just to say that I am eating fewer sugars and carbs these days, but I can still get my sweet tooth fix enjoying my red peppers, honeycrisp apples, chocolate-dipped quinoa crisps, and coconut water :) I'm also happy to say that when I was retested in July my blood sugar was so far improved that I have almost dipped out of the pre-diabetic zone altogether and back into what's considered normal range. But of course, it's not something you can stop once you hit a certain number -- the goal is to keep doing this for the rest of my life. So far, it's been going fine and I'm figuring out what I like to eat that's within my new purview. I have to say that California Pizza Kitchen's cauliflower crust mushroom pizza makes me very happy <333333
Relationship status?
If my marriage were a person, it would be old enough to vote. Hurray!
Current obsessions?
My cousins introduced me to a spelling bee game this summer, and over the last week I've picked it back up and am finding it a bit addictive. The two of them regularly ace its highest levels, but I content myself with the goal of getting to the "Great" goalpost and then walking away :) It's fun, but the full word list is, to me, a bit frustrating because it's hard to guess what anachronistic spellings, odd plurals, or never-used permutations they will decide to count (you won't take 'glugging' one day, but you want me to try 'ufts' the next? bah humbug!!) *shrugs* If you're not a completist and would be happy just finding as many patterns as you can, it's a good little daily hamster run for the brain. The solutions to one day's challenge are posted on the following day.
Last thing you googled?
Glugging, LOL. I was, like, oh god, is it somehow not a real word? Better check before I post. But it is!! VINDICATION!!
I will say I also got miffed at the thing for wanting "annum" but not accepting "unum" (oh, we're accepting Latin if it's for accountants but not if it's for a national motto? FINE.) And I was denied "unarm," but that one I eventually had to concede -- you can be unarmed or you can disarm someone else, but 'unarm' by itself isn't actually a thing, okay. But neither is 'ufts', spellbee, GET OFF MY LAWN.
Anyhow, I argue with it and then come back the next day to play again :)
I tag anyone who wants to share, of course!

Glorious Good Omens S2 Missable Details
I watched Good Omens S2 roughly 507 times the last few weeks (been a rough month, it kept me afloat and I'm eternally grateful), point being:
Tumblr Reader, please benefit from my wild-obsession and read on for good deep-cut bits to pay attention to on your next rewatch:
Episode 1
-Crowley has a very slightly different accent in the opening scene. It's a bit more "proper" and "angelic."
-Maggie's shop is called "The Small Back Room," and she tells Nina it started out as a corner of Aziraphale's bookshop...one of his back rooms.
-Crowley's newspaper says that voters named Tadfield the best village in England--and that the weather there remains perfect.
Episode 2
-There are crows visible and audible in the background riiiight after Crowley "smites" the goats.
-"Jim's" bendy-fan book is a Terry Pratchett's first Discworld novel "The Colour of Magic"
-Someone wrote the whole article! Apparently business at "The Resurrectionist" slowed down when "Everyday" got old, but now people are showing up just to witness the miracle.
-The fellow at the pub who Aziraphale miracles out of a chair has a newspaper that mentions Milton Keynes. Most of the article is out of focus, but Milton Keynes is a city that, in the book, both Crowley and Aziraphale took credit for.
-Job, when introduced, is leaning against a pile of steaming manure. I'm aware that I'm an idiot for not noticing this right away...
Episode 3
-Jim is using a mug that Aziraphale had in the first season. Either he or Aziraphale has added the label in the interim.
-Muriel doesn't say "cup of tea," she says "cuppatea," because she didn't properly hear what Aziraphale said.
-At some unshown point, Crowley takes over body-hauling duties for Elspeth
-Beezlebub hauls their chair horn-ed chair around to 2-3 rooms over the whole season--and is also, on reflection, clearly quite worried about Gabriel here and in episode 1.
-Aziraphale finds the surgeon's whiskey to be a step too far, smell-wise.
-Laudanum courtesy of Cut-me-own-throat-Dibbler. It's a miracle the thing had any effect on Crowley, it was probably mostly rat urine and even more questionably sourced water.
-When Crowley tells Elpeth to leave just before she exits stage left, he calls her "hen," which is what Wee Morag almost always called her.
Episode 4
-Mark Gatiss's (Nazi Male Sidekick) arm is falling off half the time because he's the one who was holding the books that Crowley demonically saved. The nazi's arm was sticking out of the rubble, holding the suitcase, to make it easy to retrieve the books. Hence it got tugged by both Crowley and the scavengers, and fell off by the end of the episode. Serves the book-thief right.
-The Nazi Zombies hang in the Dirty Donkey to spy on the fellas in the bookshop--the same pub Crowley and Aziraphale visit in E2, and the pub that the heaven elevator commanders in E4 and E5
-Aziraphale gets nervous and seems to jump to the end of his act when he asks the audience who has experience with firearms. He hasn't told Crowley that this will be the cue. So, quite reasonably, Crowley does not raise his hand when asked if he has experience with firearms.
-Listen to the credits all the way through to the end of the music here: the audio changes. I don't know music well enough to know what happened, but it's fun.
Episode 5
-The owner of "Marguerite's," the French restaurant, is in fact named Justine. When she goes into Aziraphale's shop for the ball/business meeting, her accent has changed completely.
-All the candles we see on the chandeliers, as well as the candles in the next episode, are battery-operated.
-Nina's the only one this season who gets to drop the f-bomb.
-Mrs. Sandwich and the whole sequence. Google Discworld+seamstress guild if you don't get it.
-The music shop owner took the Doctor Who manual with him when he fled the demons.
Episode 6
-When Crowley changes his clothes to look angelic, the only thing he's wearing that's ACTUALLY white are his hilariously dumbass white slippers.
-The box that Gabriel came with is now storing a bunch of books, pamphlets, and papers. Two of these are the lost Shakespeare plays mentioned in the original Good Omens novel: Golde Diggers of 1589 and The Comedie of Robin Hoode.
-Gabriel's first 2 memories appear after he goes down an orange-red tunnel. But after he and Beezlebub have their first "background" meeting, the tunnel becomes blue. The whole thing ends (after bookending, Crowley says "let there be light" in the first episode and Gabriel says it in this one) with Gabriel's eyes turning purple...blue+red.
-Background acting appreciation: 1) look at Gabriel when Beelzebub says Shax could be Grand Duke of Hell, 2) look at Aziraphale in the corner when Crowley talks to Shax about his apartment, he's nodding vaguely while staring dreamily and it's adorable, 3) also rewind and check out Martin Sheen in episode 2 when the angels come to the shop, he's in the background being terrified and it's amazing
-...I can't resist: based on episodes S01E06 and S02E06, one way or another this'll end with nightingale song

TAG GAME: EIGHT SHOWS TO GET TO KNOW ME
I was tagged by @shutterbug-12 thank you !!! Weirdly we do share a show, how surprising 😁❤️
Here's a thing : I do not watch that many shows. Partly because I don't have time, partly because I am bad at watching shows because I need to be emotionally invested to get into them, and once I am ???? I can only watch that show in particular, on repeat. Yeah I'm a grown ass adult fight me.
Ripper Street : end all be all the best show on this list that is not at all in order of good from bad for real but this one tops everything. Period drama, awesome characters, delicate treatment of issues we are still struggling with nowadays with actually sometimes more decency from these 19th century Victorian men than 21st century people 🙃. Also misery misery misery feels and a fine dry humor that makes it the perfect match. Oh, and. Dead bodies and gore happens. Also there is something to the dialogue than I just absolutely love.
Tumblr media
Daredevil (netflix) : of course this one has to be on the list, and I love it, and I love Matt and Karen and Foggy, and I wish S2 didn't exist. All this can coexist, you know (and I love Elektra and Elodie Yung she is absolutely NOT the problem). Please do not talk to me about She Hulk or the Disney reboot, thanks (gif to make people watch it, I like my men sad and guilty they can't save everyone and covered in blood, thank you). So yeah overall a show I love and have rewatched many times but nowadays... I feel kinda bad about it and it makes me sad.
Tumblr media
Band of Brothers/The Pacific : you know me, you know why I like these shows (no it does not stop at "men in uniforms"). We did a rewatch of BoB recently and I think it's an easier watch than the Pacific, but I think I like the latter better even if everytime it makes me feel so bad. Anyway a gif of Webster because (hard to chose between him and Leckie I admit)
Tumblr media
Doctor Who : just. Love it. Especially RDT era. Can't chose between 9 and 10 but the best is Jack Harkness
Tumblr media
Good Omens : I need a rewatch. Just love it. I have nothing more to say, it's great.
Tumblr media
Scrubs : probably one of these shows I shouldn't rewatch in case I cringe a little but when we first got together with Benj 11 years ago we just watched Scrubs on a loop. I don't especially like the characters but the show itself, which is kinda weird for me (except Dr Cox. I love him)
Tumblr media
The Sandman : last show that blew my mind. Just love everything in it. Can't wait for S2. I had read some of the comics and loved it, too. Just realized that it's the second Neil Gaiman thing in this list (3 if we count that he wrote for Doctor Who lol) and I guess it says stuff about me too
Tumblr media
Pushing Daisies : I have loved the contrast between the whole death thing and the colourful and happy sets and stuff. This show is cute and dark and funny and I love it and I need to rewatch too when I can. (Also? Tall cutie that meddles with the dead and bakes awesome pies? did I use Ned as a template for my OC without realising ??)
Tumblr media
I don't think it counts as a show since it's an anime so it's a bonus but if you've been following me the last 6 months, you need to hear about Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood but not necessarily excluding 03. At all. Just watch it back to back. That'll do it. I love both.) (Yeah oddly enough I'm not crazy about the title character there but about THEM and of course you must have noticed)
Tumblr media
I tag @heirsoflilith @rancid-butter @qs63 @littleragondin @dairogo @musing-and-music @magipies @goneadrift @smoothshine if you want to do it !

byebyelemonpie's july 2023 recommendations
My july top 5 movies:
Nimona (2023, dir: Troy Quane, Nick Bruno) [First time watch] Nimona is a shapeshifter who wants to be an evil sidekick. This premise is already brilliant, but this movie adds to it a lot of love, acceptance and so many feelings that made me cry a lot, and it suddenly became one of my favourite movies of the year. Add to this wonderful animation and really funny sequences: genuinely a perfect movie. -
Rye Lane (2023, dir: Raine Allen-Miller) [First time watch] This was cute and fun! A very nice indie British romcom that is mostly set over the course of one day. Almost like Before Sunrise, but with more messy situations and, maybe, lies? -
Fire Island (2022, dir: Andrew Ahn) [First time watch] Five guys spend a week at a gay retreat on an island: will they find love? I still cannot get over how this movie is a queer version of Pride and Prejudice. I loved how clever it was at translating the story in a more modern (and more gay?) setting and I loved how well the characters were developed. -
Barbie (2023, dir: Greta Gerwig) [First time watch] My goodness, this was just a fun movie! The photography and direction were perfect in composing this story about the dolls most people grew up with. It was fun and lighthearted (the songs sung by the Kens were hilarious), but it was also a thoughtful piece of media talking about feminism and inequality, and the fact that not everybody knows what their place in the world is, but just being there is (K)enough. Just lovely. -
Another Cinderella Story (2008, dir: Damon Santostefano) [Rewatch after twelve years] This was a blast from the past! Sometimes I still hum to myself Tell Me Something I Don't Know, but rewatching the movie it came from was an experience. Recently I had also rewatched the Hilary Duff Cinderella Story, but I found the Selena Gomez one a bit more fun: maybe the dances and the songs made it feel less long? I'm not sure.
Favourite series in july:
Good Omens - season 2 (UK/USA, 2023) [First time watch] Aziraphale and Crowley need to take care of an Archangel with amnesia, make two women fall in love, and reminisce of their history together while not talking about any of that at all. Binge-watching this show is always tragic, because sure! I want to see my favourite supernatural entities do things and interact and fall for each other a little, but once I arrive at the last episode wide-eyed and speechless (actually in my notebook I wrote "Shaking Crying Screaming", but who's counting), what am I supposed to do to wait for the fated conclusion except re-re-re-re-rewatch the whole thing again? -
Little Women (South Korea, 2022) [First time watch] This is the story of three sisters who are poor and try to live in a rich world. What could happen if they found each other involved with rich people and join a long string of suicides, murders, money laundering, and political scandals? The three will have to investigate in the name of justice and to protect their family from the privilege and power that people who are richer than them have. It was very hard to watch the first episodes of this series: they were so heavy that I couldn't get through more than one of them without a headache, so watching this whole thing took me months, but I was fond of the characters and the cinematography being stunning were great incentive not to drop the series at all. -
3 Will Be Free (Thailand, 2019) [First time watch] Three people find themselves inside a mob family affair and they try to escape, while getting to know and growing fond of each other. I loved the characters!! The three main character were very easy to like, from an audience perspective, but I found myself rooting for Mae most of all: she was the best character of the show, in my opinion. -
Abbott Elementary - season 2 (USA, 2022/23) [First time watch] As usual, this sitcom brings me laughter and happiness, and makes me think fondly of my time as a kindergarten teacher (which ended last May). The situations these characters find themselves in as usual are blown out of proportion and their response to them is always hilarious, but the fact that they could happen is very realistic and fighting for the right to a free education for all is very important. I hope that after the Writers and Actors' Strike this show will continue, because it is lovely, and one of the few US sitcoms from recent years that I enjoyed watching.

um what else am i currently or have ever been ashamed of or felt pressure to disavow ummm...
i liked good omens both seasons. Writing on season two couldve been better but those two actors have good chemistry & comedic timing its entertaining to watch them on screen and the little cringe love story did tug at my heartstrings a little like i do care what happens to them.
I was also very much a bbc sherlock fan during the peak of tjlc and i believed in it with all my heart and when the last episode of s4 came out i was in denial for 4 months and then i pretended id never heard of the show in my life for the following few years...hbomberguy made a whole video calling me a stupid idot loser for falling for it and it felt like a knife to the heart. & you know what i rewatched it recently with a lightened soul & no karmic debt & now recognize the pain behind the vitriol cause he was clearly also a disappointed fan though i could not see that at the time. maybe not tjlc who's to say but he loved bbc sherlock & hated himself for that once the last episode came out and we all realised it was bad its pretty obvious in the way he talks about steven moffat like an ex-lover who betrayed him. But i think its not even bad i still like it ill rewatch it and have a good time,
and yes i am a johnlock shipper. those ugly british men have a handle on my psyché though with the shifting tides im feeling like i would enjoy a wider range of pairings and themes from that show. I am generally very susceptible to outside influence when it comes to these things its part of why i find it hard to ignore when the trends oscillate wildly between loving something absolutely and hating it with a passion i find it very tiring because i feel it in my heart as if the urge came from the inside...sometimes something is just okay and its okay to like it an average amount without having to wildly overcorrect to atone for having liked it more than it deserved. maybe i was too intense about bbc sherlock and got my heart broken even though it was obvious i was projecting something that was not there on a cryptic blank screen, and so it is mostly my own fault but i don't have to hate myself for it either its all fine.
Loving something a little too much and being heartbroken when you realise it wasn't actually what you thought is painful but its part of life its not something to bury into the earth its fine....and im uncool to the extreme ive never been cool not once in my life im sort of embarrassing in most of the things i do and say and thats okay too i don't have to change because i can't anyways and besides its not hurting anyone. I'm literally a theater kid and theres something very freeing about being in the middle of a gaggle of nerds well sort of like being a tumblr blogger but the two balance each other out. I can't be cool on here because im a theater kid to my core in real life in the hamilton fan sort of way and i can't be cool in really life because im literally a tumblrina of the superwholock variety and in both there is a kind of peace and relief knowing that i will never have to be cool and am always lamer than most people around me at least in my heart of hearts...

many thanks to @wanderdreamer for the tag!!
Favorite Color: I've literally loved every shade of green since I was a child, but I'm beggining to appreciate blue more, especially when it's mixed with green. red it's pretty too but only when it's a dark shade, not really a fan of highlighter.
Last Song: been listening to the black sails playlist for two days straight while studying and sleeping and nothing else (the soundtrack I'm listening to while writing this is the banner of captain flint, if anyone's curious).
Last Movie: I watched one at the theater today for a school activity (?) and since i'm italian, it was an italian movie. very recommended but very graphic and violent: Io, capitano (I captain).
Currently Watching: new girl because I've got six months free of disney+, black sails because I refuse to finish the last season (the last episode I watched was e2s4 on august 31st), modern family (but I've been trying to finish that for years) and only murders in the building (again for free disney+).
Other Stuff I Watched This Year: one piece live action (you HAVE to watch it), good omens s2 (watch this too) and extraordinary attorney woo (im not very into kdrama but I loved it).
Shows I Dropped This Year: started but can't get past episode two of the great, can't finish queen charlotte (I didn't even finish bridgerton because s1 is too boring) and I've been trying to watch attack on titan for years (I reached e1s3 but I can't get past that since 2018, so I've been rewatching hoping i can finish it).
Currently Reading: it'd be quicker to just drop my goodreads and leave, but the latest are the price of freedom (prequel of potc), circe (literally on page 2) and the last wish (from the witcher). I get bored too easily and I haven't found something that interesting yet, but I'm about to start the poppy war and I've heard it's good so I hope I can read all three books in a row and not want to shoot myself in the face out of boredom (finger crossed 🤞).
If you stumble on this, feel free to do it.
I'd also like to tag @boltlightning @annabellioncourt @fred-erick-frankenstein and hope to get to know you better ❤️.
