25 Days of BeChloe Christmases 2022
Day 9 - Beca Nightingale 2.0
Prompt from FanFiction User horsegurl03: Can you do a follow-up to 2021's Beca Nightingale? Here you go; I hope you like it.
It was one month before Christmas, and Chloe was anxiously waiting for Stacie to join her for lunch.
"Hey, Stacie," Chloe said as Stacie walked into the diner. "I appreciate you meeting me."
"You said it was important," Stacie said as she sat across from Chloe. "Are you okay? I heard you were back for more PT."
"I'm fine," Chloe said, chuckling softly. "The PT is just to help me strengthen my leg. It's still giving me trouble after all these months. Beca has offered to add a weight room to the house so I can continue exercising at home."
"That's good," Stacie said. "So, what's on your mind?"
"I want to do something special for Beca for Christmas," Chloe said. "And I need your help."
~~ 25 Days of BeChloe Christmases 2022 ~~
Meanwhile, as Chloe was having lunch with Stacie, Beca was eating her lunch in Aubrey's office.
"I need some advice," Beca said, setting her sandwich down.
"What's going on?" Aubrey asked. "Is Chloe okay?"
"Oh, yeah, she's fine," Beca said. "The extra PT is doing wonders for her. It's working so well that I'm thinking of adding a weight room to the house so she can continue exercising on her own."
"That's not a bad idea," Aubrey said. "Is that why you need my advice? I can give you a list of the best equipment to get that will help her if you want."
"That would be great," Beca said. "But that's not why I asked to see you. I want to do something special for Chloe for Christmas, and I need your help."
~~ 25 Days of BeChloe Christmases 2022 ~~
One week before Christmas, Chloe was on the phone with Stacie.
"I know you're nervous, so I re-confirmed with everyone that they were still available for Christmas Eve," Stacie said.
"That's amazing," Chloe said. "Beca will be so surprised. I can't wait to do this."
"I also reserved the biggest conference room available for the next few days," Stacie said. "We can practice in there without Beca knowing. It's on the same wing as Dr. Anderson, and she hates Dr. Anderson, so she won't go near it."
"From what I've heard of Dr. Anderson, I don't blame her one bit," Chloe said. "She's come home upset on more than one occasion after learning of another soldier killing themselves because they weren't mentally prepared to be discharged from the hospital."
"Beca and others have tried to get him fired," Stacie said. "But, the Administration's hands are tied. At least that's what they say."
"I wish I could help do something so she'd forgive herself," Chloe sighed. "She takes it personally every time she gets shot down when trying to make others understand that some of those soldiers need more treatment, not be pushed through a revolving door back out into the world."
"I'm with you there," Stacie said.
Both women grew quiet for a moment.
"So, do we need to do anything else regarding the music or the choreography?" Stacie asked, breaking the silence.
"I think we're good until the party," Chloe said. "Let me know when the next rehearsal is so I can be there. I want to see what's happening, so I know when I'm supposed to join in."
"I think we're doing a run-through on Wednesday, but I'll confirm that and let you know," Stacie said. "And Chloe?"
"Yeah?"
"Relax, she'll love it."
Chloe sighed. "Thanks, Stacie. I owe you big for this."
"Meh," Stacie said. "Just name your firstborn after me."
"I'll think about it," Chloe said as she ended the call.
~~ 25 Days of BeChloe Christmases 2022 ~~
"Come on, Aubrey," Beca said. "You're a respected doctor here. If you speak out against Anderson, the administration will listen. There have been six suicides in as many months because of Anderson's releasing them before they were ready."
"I hear you, Beca," Aubrey said, sighing. "And, I've tried on several occasions to get Frank Barker to fire Anderson but have come up empty every time. I swear Anderson must have something really juicy on Barker for him to keep getting a pass."
"What?" Beca asked. "You really think that's why?"
"I do," Aubrey said. "I've seen Frank and Dr. Anderson arguing in hushed tones a few times. Frank always walked away frowning and looking nervous."
"Hmmm," Beca said, tapping her chin with her finger. "I wonder if I can find out what it is."
"Beca," Aubrey said sternly. "Whatever you're planning to do, don't do it!"
"But, if I can find out what it is, we can use it to get rid of Anderson," Beca explained. "Think of all the soldiers we can save if we accomplish that."
Aubrey sighed, shaking her head. "Or, we can all be fired for participating in whatever scheme you're cooking up, and Anderson will still be here."
"If it doesn't work, I'll take all the blame," Beca said. "I don't need to work and can afford to be fired. I'll do whatever is necessary to help keep another soldier from being sent home before they are ready to go."
Aubrey put her elbows on her desk and put her head in her hands. She sighed heavily and looked at Beca.
"You're serious about this, aren't you?"
"I am."
"Well, can you wait until after Christmas to do it?" Aubrey asked. "Or have you forgotten about the surprise you've been working on for Chloe? Everything is set up to happen here at the hospital. We won't be able to do it if you no longer work here."
Beca's shoulder's sagged as she scrunched her face and looked at Aubrey.
"I forgot about that," Beca said. "You're right. It will have to wait." Beca's eyes widened as an idea came to her. "Unless I can find somewhere else to move Chloe's surprise."
"Where are you going to find another venue that's available on Christmas Eve, this close to Christmas Eve?"
Beca turned to glare at Aubrey. "Why do you always have to be the voice of reason?"
"Somebody has to keep you from yourself," Aubrey said. "So, we're still on for the Christmas Eve surprise happening here for Chloe?"
"Yes, we're still on for it here," Beca said. "I may still have a little chat with Mr. Barker."
"Fine," Aubrey said as Beca turned to leave. "Just be nice about it, okay?"
"I will," Beca said. Seeing Aubrey's look of disbelief, she added, "I promise, okay?"
"Good," Aubrey said. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow."
~~ 25 Days of BeChloe Christmases 2022 ~~
It was Christmas Eve, and Chloe was anxious for Beca to leave for the hospital. She knew Beca was waiting for Aubrey to pick her up. Beca planned to leave her car at home so she and Chloe could ride home together after the party.
"Aubrey's here," Beca said as she grabbed her phone. "I'll see you this afternoon at the party, right?"
"I'll be there by three," Chloe said. "Good luck in your meeting with Mr. Barker."
"Thanks, babe," Beca said, kissing Chloe and rushing to the door. "I'll see you later. Love you!"
"Love you, too," Chloe called out as Beca rushed out.
Chloe waited for thirty minutes to ensure Beca wasn't coming back before she texted Stacie to make sure things were on schedule.
Stacie: Relax. Everything and everyone is all set here You nail your part and everything will be perfect.
Chloe: Sorry I'm just nervous
Stacie: Just be here before 3:00
Chloe: I will
Chloe laid her phone on the table and went to shower and change. She was really nervous and hoped that Beca liked the surprise she had planned for her.
Once she was dressed, Chloe decided to kill time by watching holiday movies; it worked, and before she knew it, it was almost two-thirty. Chloe grabbed what she needed to take with her to the party. She felt like Santa Claus as she checked everything twice.
Chloe arrived at the hospital, and Stacie met her outside.
"You look great," Stacie said when she saw Chloe.
"We should go in," Chloe said, her nervousness fully on display.
"Come on," Stacie said. "I know the best route so we don't run into Beca."
Stacie started walking with Chloe by her side. They took the elevator to the fourth floor and stepped off.
"It's just around this corner," Stacie said, turning the corner.
Chloe followed after Stacie, stopping short and grabbing Stacie's arm when she saw Beca standing in the doorway of the conference room.
"Oh, my god," Chloe gasped. "Is that Emily Junk with Beca?"
"Captain Beale!" a voice called out from behind Chloe.
Chloe looked back in surprise as three women came rushing toward her.
"Alice? Denise? Lily? What are you guys doing here?"
"Emily called and told us your girlfriend wanted to surprise you by bringing the old squad together," Alice responded.
"And, of course, we wouldn't miss this for the world," Denise said.
Chloe laughed and cried as the three women pulled her into a group hug.
"Chloe!" Emily called out as she hurried to the group and joined the hug. "It's so good to see you. All of you."
"It's good to see all of you," Chloe said.
"Hey, babe," Beca's said as she joined the group. "Can we go into the conference room now? There are a few more people who want to see you."
"You did all this for me?" Chloe asked, smiling at Beca.
"Surprise!?" Beca said. "I know how much you missed them. Besides, Emily did the hard work."
"All I did was make a few phone calls," Emily said. "As soon as I said it was for you, everyone who could make it made arrangements to be here."
Chloe pulled Beca and Emily into a hug. "This is the best present ever!"
"Um, Chloe?" Stacie said, clearing her throat. "Maybe we should go to the party. I think some people are expecting us."
"Oh, right," Chloe said, taking Beca's hand as everyone started making their way to the party.
Chloe held Beca back and pulled her into a quick kiss. She then wrapped Beca in her arms and rested her chin on Beca's shoulder.
"This is the most amazing thing anyone has ever done for me," Chloe said. "I love it, and I love you."
"I love you, too," Beca said. "I'm glad I was able to surprise you."
"Chloe? Beca? Come on," Aubrey called to them from the doorway. "They're starting."
"Let's go," Chloe said, taking Beca's hand.
~~ 25 Days of BeChloe Christmases 2022 ~~
The party was in full swing, and Chloe spent most of it catching up with her former squad.
"Where is Beca?" Lily asked.
"Yeah, Cap," Denise said. "We want to thank her for bringing us all together."
"She's around here somewhere," Chloe said.
As Chloe looked around the room, Stacie caught her eye.
"Are you ready?" Stacie mouthed.
Chloe nodded and turned to her squad.
"I'll be back and I'll bring Beca over," Chloe said. "There is something I need to do first."
Chloe hurried over to Stacie.
"Everyone's in place," Stacie said.
"Where's Beca?" Chloe asked, looking around.
"Ummmm," Stacie said, also looking around. "Oh."
"What?" Chloe said, following Stacie's eye line to see Beca talking animatedly to someone in a suit. "Who is that?"
"That's the hospital's director," Stacie said. "He's the guy Beca has been talking to get Dr. Anderson fired."
"Oh," Chloe said. "Can we send someone over to get her away from him?"
"Jessica!" Stacie said, capturing the blonde's attention. "Can you get Beca? She's over there talking to Mr. Barker."
Jessica looked over to see where Beca was. "I'm on it," she said and walked toward them.
"Okay," Stacie said, getting Chloe's attention. "You need to get into position."
"Okay," Chloe said, swallowing loudly. "I'm so nervous."
"You'll be fine," Stacie said. "Ashley has the champagne chilling so we can celebrate when all is said and done."
Chloe nodded and moved to her position, and watched as Jessica interrupted Beca and Mr. Barker. Mr. Barker looked relieved about the interruption; Beca looked pissed by it. Beca said something to Mr. Barker and started walking away with Jessica.
Beca stopped when the music started, and a voice in the crowd started singing.
I don't want a lot for Christmas
Another voice joined the first, and they both started dancing.
There is just one thing I need
Another voice joined in, and soon there was a small group singing and dancing. Beca looked around and laughed as she recognized some of the nurses and staff joining in.
I don't care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree
Beca was amused by the entire situation until she heard Chloe's voice sing out loud and clear.
I just want you for my own More than you could ever know
Beca's eyes never left Chloe as Chloe sang and danced her way over until she was in front of Beca.
Make my wish come true All I want for Christmas is you Yeah
At this point, the group stopped singing but continued their choreographed dance. Chloe looked into Beca's eyes as she continued to sing.
I don't want a lot for Christmas There is just one thing I need (and I) Don't care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree I don't need to hang my stocking there upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy with a toy on Christmas Day I just want you for my own More than you could ever know Make my wish come true All I want for Christmas is you You, baby
As Chloe sang the last word, the dancing stopped; Chloe then knelt on one knee directly in front of Beca. Beca gasped and put her hands to her mouth.
"Chloe?" she whispered.
A hush fell over the crowd as Chloe held up a ring and started to speak.
"Beca, I love you with everything I am. This, uh, this past year with you has been the, um, best year of my life. I, uh, I can't remember what I was going to say," Chloe said, blushing slightly as she stared at Beca. "I, um, I actually had a whole speech all planned out, but I can't remember any of it."
A small chuckle rippled through the crowd.
"I guess what I'm trying to say," Chloe continued as she stared into Beca's eyes. "What I'm trying to say is, I love you, Beca, will you marry me?"
Beca still hand her hands to her mouth as tears fell down her cheeks. She reached out and took Chloe's face in her hands, and nodded as she said, "I love you, too, Chloe. And, yes, I'll marry you."
Beca grabbed Chloe's lips in a kiss as the crowd began clapping and yelling out, "congratulations!"
Chloe ended the kiss and stood, taking Beca's hand and placing the engagement ring on her finger.
"I love you," Chloe whispered as she connected their lips again.
The kiss ended when Stacie grabbed them in a hug.
"I'm so happy for you two," Stacie squealed.
~~ 25 Days of BeChloe Christmases 2022 ~~
The party was winding down, and Chloe had not let go of Beca's hand the entire time.
"We should probably get going," Beca said as they stood talking to Aubrey.
"Do we have to?" Chloe whined. "I want to spend more time with my squad."
"You'll see them tomorrow," Beca said, chuckling. "I invited them over for Christmas brunch. As a matter of fact, I invited a few people from the hospital as well."
"You're the best!" Chloe said and pulled Beca into another kiss.
They pulled apart when they heard Aubrey's "Ahem."
"I'm heading back to my office," Aubrey said when the couple looked at her. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow," Beca said, giving the blonde a quick hug.
"I should get back to work, too," Stacie said, joining them.
"Thanks for everything, Stacie," Chloe said, hugging the tall brunette.
"I was happy to help," Stacie said, turning to hug Beca. "I'll see you ladies tomorrow."
Later that night, after celebrating their engagement, Beca was cuddling with Chloe.
"This has been one of the best days ever," Chloe said.
"I agree," Beca said, kissing Chloe.
They broke apart when Beca's phone rang. She picked it up to see Aubrey's name on the caller ID. Beca accepted the call.
"You'd better not be calling to ask me to work tomorrow," Beca said.
"Hello to you, too, Beca," Aubrey said, chuckling.
"Whatever," Beca said. "Why are you calling?"
"Sorry to call so late, but I thought you'd want to know," Aubrey said. "Frank Barker just called to tell me that Dr. Herman Anderson will be terminated from his position effective immediately."
Beca sat up and looked at Chloe.
"Are you for real right now?"
"I'm absolutely for real," Aubrey said, chuckling. "Merry Christmas, Beca. We'll talk later at brunch."
"Okay," Beca said. "Thanks for letting me know, Aubrey."
"You're welcome," Aubrey said and ended the call.
Beca put her phone back on the dresser.
"What was that about?" Chloe asked.
"Dr. Anderson's been fired," Beca said. "Effective immediately."
Chloe pulled Beca into a hug. "That's great news, babe."
"Is it weird that I actually feel sorry for him?" Beca asked, pulling back from the hug.
"No," Chloe said. "It just means you're a good person who cares about everyone. It's just one of the many reasons why I love you so much."
Beca kissed Chloe, and things got passionate quickly. Soon, Chloe was lying on her back as Beca hovered over her, looking into her eyes.
"I can't wait to marry you," Beca said.
"I'm just glad you said yes," Chloe said.
"As if I would say no to marrying the love of my life," Beca scoffed.
"Merry Christmas, baby," Chloe said as she pulled Beca into another kiss.

Bechloe Week 2021 - Day 5
July 30th: “You don’t know who I am, do you?”
Read on AO3
This is heavy heavy angst. It’s pretty sad (imo) and also kinda long. So, you know, read at your own risk.
-
With a throbbing in her hip, and a tight pain across her chest, Beca eased herself out of the cab she’d taken, and looked up at the entrance to Barden Nursing Home.
Although she visited several times a week, it seemed like they added more stairs each time she came.
“Can I give you a hand ma’am?”
“Well that depends, Raheem,” Beca said. Her voice wasn’t as strong as it had once been, but anyone who knew her could still detect the bite of sarcasm that filled almost every sentence. “Are you going to call me ma’am again, or are you going to call me Beca?”
Raheem smiled at her from his driver side window.
“Come on Mrs Mitchell, I can’t call you that. What would my grandmother say if she knew I was disrespecting my elders?”
Beca laughed and shook her head. “If you insist.” She held out an arm for him to take, and he left his cab immediately.
Truthfully, she didn’t think she’d make it up on her own anymore.
The doctor had given her a year, give or take, but she knew her own body.
This would be her last visit to Barden Nursing Home.
“Do you want me to wait with the cab?” Raheem asked when they reached the entryway.
“No, no,” Beca said. “The girls are meeting me here, they can drive me home.”
“I’ll see you next week then?”
Probably not. “I’ll give you a call.”
Raheem was Beca’s favourite driver and he happened to be the owner of the cab company, so he always made sure he was the one to drive Beca to her destination.
His mother had been a fan of hers, he’d told her during one of their first journeys, which made her feel older than she was. Or older than she thought she was. It still surprised her when she looked in the mirror and saw an old lady looking back at her.
She didn’t really recognise herself anymore.
Now that her hair was grey, her back slightly hunched, her joints sore and swollen.
They had taken her drivers licence a few years back due to her deteriorating eyesight, and her hearing wasn’t what it was.
And now her lungs were shot. Her liver. Her heart.
Her body was failing her, worsening by the day.
She was in almost constant pain, but she still had her mind. Her mind remained as sharp as it ever was.
For that, she was grateful.
Most of the time, anyway.
Leaning on a cane, with a bunch of flowers in her other hand, she made her way through the reception area.
“Morning Beca,” one of the nurses greeted her warmly. “She’s in her room today, didn’t feel like being social.”
“Thanks hun,” Beca replied. “How is she?”
“One of her better days.”
Good, Beca thought. That’s good.
If today was going to be her last visit, she wanted it to be a good one.
She knocked on door 216, and waited for a response.
“Come in,” came a voice that was both achingly familiar yet totally alien.
“Hi,” Beca said, smiling warmly as she entered the room.
Chloe was sitting in a chair by the window, a blanket over her knees.
Her once red hair was now silver, tied in a neat ponytail. She was still looking outside, but Beca knew her bright blue eyes were now milky and flat. Clouded.
Chloe turned to face her visitor.
“Can I help you?”
Beca felt something hard lodge itself in her chest.
She would never get used to this feeling. She never wanted to get used to this feeling.
She waited for a sign of recognition. A smile or a twinkle, but there was nothing.
Chloe simply looked at her with a patient curiosity.
Well, Beca thought. That’s that, then.
“I was just wondering if you would like some company? I’m new here and I don’t really know anyone.” She placed the flowers in an empty vase of water that she knew the nurses had left there for her, like they did every time she visited.
“Yes, okay. That would be fine,” Chloe said. “I’m Chloe Beale.” She held out her hand for Beca to shake.
Beca shook it, trying not to let the stab of pain show on her face at the sound of Chloe using her maiden name.
“Beca Mitchell,” Beca said, fighting the urge to cover Chloe’s hands with both of her own.
Even after all these years, Beca still wanted nothing more than to pull Chloe into her arms and kiss her.
She couldn’t remember the last time they’d really kissed. The last time they’d lain in bed together while Chloe ran her fingers through Beca’s hair. The last time Chloe had been Chloe.
Chloe’s diagnosis and the progression of her illness had been sudden and devastating and brutally quick.
It was so cruel, Beca thought almost every minute of every day, that she still had Chloe so close yet she couldn’t have been further from her.
“I’m afraid you can’t stay too long,” Chloe said. “My daughters are coming to visit later.”
She remembers the girls, Beca thought. That’s good.
Some days Chloe had no recollection of their daughters. Some days, Chloe had no recollection of any of them.
But once in a while, God, it was so rare now, Chloe would remember Beca and who they’d been together.
“Is that so?” Beca asked. “How old are your daughters?”
“Oh, I don’t know, middle-aged-ish. One’s older than the other,” Chloe said, waving a dismissive hand. “Of an age where they think they’re old but they don’t know they’re actually still very young.”
“Hmm, they must be the same age as my kids. What are their names?”
“Well there’s Blake and, um… shoot. I had it. Begins with a B…”
No it doesn’t.
“No it doesn’t,” Chloe said, shaking her head. “Hayley.”
Riley.
“Riley!”
Beca smiled. If only I could get you to remember me so easily.
“Do you have grandkids?” Beca asked.
“No,” Chloe said with a sigh.
Yes you do. You have four, and they’re beautiful.
“Do you?”
“Yes,” Beca said. “A little too much energy for me to handle these days.”
Chloe seemed to study Beca for a fraction longer.
“You know, you look a lot like my wife. Older, of course, but there’s something about the nose and the smile…”
Beca laughed because if she didn’t she would cry. “Is that right? Well to be honest I wasn’t going to say anything, but you look a lot like my wife.”
“How weird,” Chloe said.
“She was beautiful, just like you,” Beca said, fiddling with the wedding band she still wore.
“Is she still with us?”
Beca looked into Chloe’s eyes, searching for some semblance of the Chloe Beale she had fallen in love with. Searching for a glimmer of recognition. A spark. Anything.
“No,” Beca said. “We lost her a few years ago.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry,” Chloe said, placing her hand on Beca’s as if that’s where it was meant to be. “How awful for you. You must miss her terribly.”
Beca let out a small laugh and tears filled her eyes.
It was unbearable to mourn someone who was sitting two feet in front of you.
“More than anything. We had,” Beca swallowed hard but her voice still broke when she spoke again, “the best life together. She was my best friend… my everything.”
Chloe squeezed her hand. “How lucky you are to have felt love like that. To have loved so strongly that even after all these years you’re still…” Chloe trailed off and looked out of the window again.
“Did… is your wife still with us?” Beca asked, wiping her eyes on her sleeve.
“My… sorry, what did you say?”
“Is your wife still alive?”
“Oh, I don’t have a wife dear,” Chloe said, smiling. “This ginger is single and ready to mingle as my grandkids would say.”
Again, that knife in her heart.
Her grandkids were back, replacing her wife, and with them a spark of the old Chloe.
“Maybe you’ll meet someone here,” Beca said, the sadness taking hold of her now. Settling into her bones in the same way that the damp made her hip throb. “It’s never too late.”
“God, you’re crying, are you okay?”
“Perfectly fine,” Beca said, smiling. “Just thinking about my Chloe has made me go all… well… foolish is probably the best word.”
“Your… Chloe?”
“My wife,” Beca said. “Her name was Chloe.” She swallowed as she looked at the uncomprehending face before her. “She was beautiful. So beautiful. Red hair and bright blue eyes and she was kind, and good, and safe. She was my best my soulmate. And she had a voice like an angel. I’d give…” Beca swallowed again, “I’d give anything to hear her sing again. To hear my Chloe sing again.”
“Beca…”
“Do you know what she said to me the first time we kissed? She promised I would never lose her. We were in a tiny apartment in Brooklyn and she promised I wouldn’t lose her. But that’s the kind of promise only a kid could make. They have no idea, how could they?”
“Beca.”
Chloe’s hand gripped Beca’s and squeezed it. Tight.
“My… Beca?”
And there she was. Back like she’d never gone away.
“Chloe? You… you remember me?”
“Of course I remember you,” Chloe said. Then her eyebrows furrowed, and she looked around her room. “This isn’t our house.”
“No.”
Chloe swallowed and nodded. “I’m… I’m not well, am I?”
Beca sniffed and shook her head.
“Alzheimer’s?”
“Ah ha,” Beca said, fighting to keep her voice steady.
“Like my mom… How long?”
“T-two years,” Beca said. “I tried to take care of you but then I fell and broke my hip and I just… I couldn’t manage on my own anymore. The girls insisted. You’ve been here for about a year. You… you seem happy.”
Beca knew this lucidity wouldn’t last.
Chloe would be gone again, and probably soon.
This was her last chance.
“I love you, Chloe Mitchell, do you hear me? My heart belongs completely to you. And one day… one day soon, I’m not gonna be able to come and visit you anymore. And there may be days where you remember me, but you won’t remember I’m gone, and you’re gonna feel hurt and betrayed. You’re going to think I abandoned you,” Beca squeezed Chloe’s hand again, “but I promise you, if it was up to me, I would never leave your side.”
“So stay,” Chloe said, her voice breaking. “Stay with me.”
Beca gave her a sad smile. “In a few hours, you won’t remember me, baby.”
“How could I ever forget you?”
“Mom?” A voice spoke up from the doorway, and Beca turned to see Blake and Riley standing there. “Is everything-”
“Girls!” Chloe said, brightly. “Come in and meet my new friend Beca.”
No.
Not yet.
Please, not yet.
“Your new friend Beca?”
Beca forced the smile back onto her face, and she stood up.
“Nice to meet you,” Beca said, looking into the faces of her daughters. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”
She turned to face Chloe.
“You’re leaving?”
“I should let you have some time with your girls,” Beca said. She took Chloe’s hand in hers, and looked at her wife for what would be the last time. “It was truly a pleasure meeting you, Chloe.”
“I’ll see you again I hope?”
Beca smiled. “Of course. You’ll remember what I said?”
Chloe tilted her head, her eyebrows pulled together in confusion.
“It’s okay,” Beca said. “I know you heard it. It’ll come back to you when you need it.”
“Okay,” Chloe said, still confused. “Do you think… would it be okay if we hugged? You can ask the girls, I’m a hugger.”
She heard a small sniff and she saw Riley quickly leave the room.
“Allergies,” Blake said, quickly.
“Of course we can hug,” Beca said. “I’ve had a wonderful afternoon with you Chloe.”
Chloe stood, her blanket slipping off her lap, and she wrapped her arms around Beca, and Beca hugged back as tight as she dared.
She buried her face in Chloe’s neck and breathed in.
She still smelled like Chloe.
“You know Beca, I think we’re gonna be really fast friends.”
And everything inside of Beca broke.
“Hey, what is it?” Chloe said, softly as Beca clung to her and cried.
“Mom, it’s okay,” Blake said. She stuck her head out of the door and called to her younger sister.
Chloe shot Blake a look of confusion as this apparent stranger sobbed into her shoulder.
“You’re okay,” Chloe said, softly. “Come on, now, you’re okay. I’ve got you.”
“I love you,” Beca whispered into her ear, choking it out between sobs. “Don’t forget that, okay? I love you.”
“Okay, that’s, um, very nice,” Chloe said.
Beca’s chest started feeling tight as she struggled to get air into her lungs.
“Why don’t you sit down? We can call a nurse and-”
“No,” Beca said, quickly, struggling to suck air into her useless lungs. “I just need… in my bag.”
“Here,” Blake said, handing her her inhaler.
“Thank you,” Beca said, taking several deep puffs from it. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have… I’m sorry, Chloe.”
She looked at Chloe again, and knew with certainty it was for the last time.
She had gotten a couple of minutes with Chloe - the real Chloe - this afternoon and that was more than she could have hoped for.
“It really was lovely to meet you Chloe,” she said.
“Yes, you too,” Chloe replied, although she sounded less than convincing. “See you another time?”
“I look forward to it,” Beca said.
“Riley, why don’t you make sure… Beca, here, gets to where she needs to be,” Blake said, looking between her parents with pain in her eyes.
“Sure,” Riley said.
When they were away from the room, Riley pulled her Mom into a hug.
“That was a rough one, huh?” Riley asked.
“Unbearable,” Beca said. “She was… she was back. I had her back for like, five minutes. And then…”
Riley kissed her on the head. “Come on, I’ll get one of the nurses to get you some tea and when we’re done we can drive you home.”
Beca frowned. “It’s Thursday. Is Blake not doing dinner?”
“No, she is, but you don’t usually feel like company after a bad visit,” Riley said.
Beca waved a hand of dismissal. “I wanna spend some time getting climbed on by my grandkids. Will your new lady be joining us?”
Riley blushed like a teenager, despite being in her forties. “Not tonight, Mom. It’s a bit soon for a family dinner.”
“Oh come on, you’ve been dating for months! I want to meet her, I have so many embarrassing stories to tell!”
“I know you do,” Riley said. “Which is why we’re gonna wait a few more weeks before we scare her off. Don’t worry, there are endless amounts of family dinners ahead of us for you to embarrass me at.”
Beca smiled. “Okay,” she said.
She hadn’t told the girls she was sick. They had enough in their plates with Chloe, and she didn’t want to add to it.
When the time came, yes, she knew they’d be hurt. She knew that hurt didn’t even come close to covering it. They had all but said their goodbyes to Chloe, but they had no idea that Beca would be beating her to the afterlife.
She knew if she asked them, they’d rather she told them.
It was cruel to blindside them, but in a way wasn’t it crueler to have them watch her slowly waste away in a hospital? To leave them saddled with medical bills that their inheritance would only just cover?
Because she knew her girls, they wouldn’t just let her slip away. They’d want her to fight, and Beca was too tired for fighting.
No. She wouldn’t do that to them. She had already written letters for all of them - including Chloe - and she had left instructions with her solicitors that they would get handed out after her death.
In her will, she’d left most of her money to her daughters and Blake’s four kids, along with a lump-sum donation to Barden Nursing Home.
Her affairs were in order.
The girls didn’t need to know.
“Mom? Are you ready?”
Beca smiled as her daughters approached, and she gratefully took Riley’s hand when she offered it.
She was quiet on the drive back to Blake’s house.
“Sure you’re up for dinner, Mom?” Blake asked, glancing at her in the rear view mirror.
Beca smiled and nodded.
That night she basked in the attention of her grandkids.
The two twin boys - Jackson and Christopher, aged seven - kept trying to explain their favourite show to their grandmother.
They kept acting out scenes, speaking in odd voices, shooting each other with fake guns.
Beca tried to follow along but really she just wanted to watch them play.
The youngest - Davey, four - sat comfortably on her lap.
“Gram read it?” He said, holding up a book.
“Again?” Beca asked.
“Please?”
“Okay,” she said.
“Grandma!” Christopher said, pulling her attention back to him. “Grandma! Look! Then the bad guys do this!” He aimed a finger gun at his brother and deepened his voice. “Prepare to die!”
“Ah ha,” Beca said.
“Gram,” Davey tugged at her sleeve and then placed a hand on his book.
“Sorry,” Beca said, picking up where she left off from.
The noise and distraction was welcome.
It kept Beca’s mind from wandering. She needed a few hours where she wasn’t mourning Chloe.
It was working until ten year old Anne walked into the room, looking far too somber for any ten year old.
“Who’s upset you then?” Beca asked. “I might be old but I can still throw a punch.”
Anne smiled, but only just. “Is grandma better yet?”
Beca frowned. “No, honey. I’m sorry.”
Anne had been the apple of Chloe’s eye right up until the moment she started to forget her.
Blake and her husband David had made the decision early on that the kids shouldn’t visit Chloe. It would be too hard for them to see their grandma and have her not recognise them.
“Is she going to get better soon?”
Beca let out a small sigh. “I don’t know,” she said.
Anne’s face fell, and Beca’s heart broke.
She wished she didn’t have to leave these kids behind.
“Listen, your grandma loves you very much. And so do I. And we always will, no matter what.”
Davey started to fuss on Beca’s knee, and she turned her attention back to him.
“If I wrote grandma a letter, would you give it to her?” Anne asked. “I don’t want her to think I’ve forgotten her.”
Tears filled Beca’s eyes, and she smiled. “Of course. But you should give it to your Mom or aunt Riley. They’ll see her before I do.”
Anne nodded, and went off to her room.
The rest of the night continued the same way every Thursday night dinner did.
Blake complained that Beca ate too little and that her husband ate too much.
The twins would devour anything left too close to them, and Anne would pick out any bit of vegetable she found, no matter how small it had been cut up.
Then Beca would attempt to help with the dishes until she was told to cut it out, and Riley would drive her home.
Before she left that night, she hugged and kissed each of her grandkids, and told them all she loved them beyond comprehension.
She kissed Blake’s cheeks - standing on her tiptoes to do so - and briefly cupped her face in her hands. She told her she loved her too.
She patted David on the arm.
“You’re a good man,” she said. “You’ll take care of them.”
“Jeez, Mom, what’s got you so morbid?”
“Just the joys of ageing,” Beca said.
She didn’t know why she was feeling so sentimental that night, but she put it down to the emotion of the day.
In the car, Beca was quiet again.
“Something’s up with you,” Riley said.
“Today was tough,” Beca said, her head on the window. She turned to look at her daughter, and she seemed to transform in front of her eyes and back again. “Has anyone ever told you how much you look like your mom?”
“You, every day since I was born,” Riley said, laughing as she ran a hand through her short, ginger hair.
“This new girlfriend of yours,” Beca said, “is she nice?”
“What? Yes, Mom, of course.”
“She treats you well? She’s kind? She doesn’t blow up at wait staff or lose her temper in traffic?”
“She’s great,” Riley said. “Look, you can meet her soon, okay? She’s just a bit nervous around parents. She… she didn’t get on great with her own. They weren’t cool when she came out.”
Beca let out a sigh. “Poor girl. You’d think my generation would have grown out of that. Apparently not. As long as she makes you happy, and treats you well, then that’s all that matters.”
Riley laughed. “What, are you trying to make sure I’m married off before you kick it?”
Beca laughed too. “No. I just want you to be happy, my girl.”
“I am,” Riley said. “And not because I’m in a relationship, but because I just… am.”
Beca smiled. “Good. I’ve… I’ve had a very good life, Ri. And I don’t think I realised how good it was, how lucky I was, until your Mom got sick. I wish I could go back and just… enjoy it. Savour it. Those moments I spent with your mom where we would just… talk. And be with each other. I wish I could tell myself to appreciate each and every one.” Beca wiped her eyes. “Promise me you’ll do that?”
“Mom, you sound like you’re giving me some goodbye speech.”
Beca smiled and shook her head. “Promise me.”
“I promise,” Riley said. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
“I’m sure,” Beca said.
They pulled up outside Beca’s home.
“You want me to walk you in?”
“I’m not that old yet. I love you. You know that, right?”
“Of course I do. I love you too, Mom.”
Beca smiled at her daughter, and leant across the car to kiss her cheek.
“See you tomorrow?”
“Yeah,” Beca said. “I need to pop into town and pick up a prescription.”
“I’ll take you.”
Beca smiled. “You’re a good girl. See you tomorrow.”
Riley waved and watched as her Mom walked into her house and shut the door behind her. She drove to her girlfriend’s, her heart heavy with sadness for her parents.
Maybe tonight she should tell Sarah that she loved her.
It was true, she had always just been too scared to say it.
She wasn’t sure what she was afraid of anymore.
Beca’s house was as quiet as it always was these days.
She made a cup of chamomile tea, and popped open the Thursday PM slot on her pill caddy. She took the handful of pills and swallowed them with a mouthful of tea.
Then she settled herself in her favourite armchair, and turned on some music.
She was tired.
Really tired.
It had been such a long day.
She felt a tightness in her chest, but it wasn’t any worse than usual so she thought nothing of it.
The song changed and the opening notes of Titanium played out.
This was considered an oldie now.
Beca smiled, and closed her eyes as she remembered the first time she sang that song with her wife.
God, what a life they’d had.
She didn’t open her eyes again.

moodboard: bechloe + neighbours/famous AU for bechloe week 2021! (bonus: fic)
baby, hold me tight (‘cause you can make it right)
Summary: Beca has no idea how it happened, but she managed to not only catch the eye but also score a date with no one less than Chloe Beale and she wasn’t going to screw it up.
Notes: I was only planning on writing a fic for tomorrow but alas I’ve written two already while tomorrow’s still a work in progress. Once again, super short but the idea popped in my head and I simply couldn’t let it go. Hope you guys enjoy it :)
PSA: this story is a friendly reminder that you should watch Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Title’s from Irene Cara’s Fame
Words: 1,364
Rating: teen and up audiences
Being a four-time Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter, currently working on her 6th studio album, Beca had little to no personal time. She had been practically living in the studio, going out only for performances and interviews, and more often than not falling asleep on her couch because she couldn’t manage to make it to her bedroom.
And yet, amidst all the chaos in her life, Beca still had managed to not only catch the eye but also score a date with no one less than Chloe Beale, EGOT nominated actress whom she not-so-secretly had a crush on ever since her first appearance on TV.

fic: turbulence
a little ficlet for bechloe week day 4, near-death experience
Beca flinches as the airplane hits another patch of turbulence.
Flying has never been her favorite. She gets, logically, why planes stay in the air, but still, on some level, it just doesn’t make sense that these 400 ton tin cans don’t simply plummet to the earth.
For that reason, she’s a bit uneasy on even the smoothest of flights. Add turbulence to the mix and she’s pretty much on the verge of a major freak out.
She’s trying her best to hide it, though. They’re on their way to Worlds and the rest of the Bellas are sitting in the rows behind her and Chloe. All week nerves have been high among the girls, and she doesn’t want them to see one of their stalwart captains have a mild-to-moderate breakdown somewhere over the Atlantic.
But then the plane rumbles over a few more bumps and Beca squeezes her eyes shut as she lets out a panicked squeak.
She’s wondering if Amy was serious about the various anxiety medications she claimed to have smuggled onboard (somewhere “unmentionable”) when she feels a hand on her thigh.
“You okay over there?” Chloe asks.
“Just peachy,” Beca says through clenched teeth.
Chloe makes a sympathetic sound and gently rubs Beca’s leg, smoothing her hand up a few inches from her knee and back again. And it’s absolutely freezing on this plane but Beca suddenly feels warm all over.
“Try to imagine we’re on, like, a dirt road,” Chloe says. “We’re just driving over rocks and roots and stuff.”
“Kinda hard to imagine we’re on solid ground at 20,000 feet, Chlo.”
Beca opens her eyes and finds that Chloe’s right there, a soft, caring expression on her face, and perhaps the ground feels more solid than she thought.
Chloe’s hand leaves her leg and it must purely be a coincidence that Beca’s anxiety rises again. The plane starts swaying slightly from side to side, and Beca grips the bottom of her seat cushion so hard her knuckles turn white.
“Hey, Becs. Come here.”
Beca opens her eyes (she hadn’t realized she’d closed them) just as Chloe’s lifting the arm rest between them. Chloe raises her eyebrows and watches Beca like she’s waiting for her.
It must be the turbulence that makes Becas heart start to race.
“Come… where?”
Then the plane drops sharply, like they’re in a free fall, and Beca thinks this is it. She’s going to die on her way to a freaking acapella competition. The universe truly has a cruel sense of humor.
Seconds later when the plane levels off, when she realizes she hasn’t, in fact, plummeted to her death, she notices something that makes her stomach drop all over again.
Apparently, in the brief time that Beca thought she was a gonner, she had launched herself onto Chloe. Her head is tucked under Chloe’s chin and her hands are fisting Chloe’s hoodie, and if it wasn’t for her seatbelt Beca has a feeling she’d be in Chloe’s lap right now.
If she wasn’t so rattled she knows she’d be completely mortified that she basically threw herself into the arms of her secret crush. But then Chloe closes her arms around Beca and hums happily, like they didn’t just nearly perish, like there’s nowhere else she’d rather be.
“We’re okay,” Chloe says, stroking circles on her back. “You’re okay.”
The captain makes a brief announcement and turns off the fasten seatbelt sign, and Beca distantly registers that she should move away. It’s as if Chloe can tell she’s thinking it, because she holds her more tightly.
“Stay,” she whispers, breath tickling the shell of Beca’s ear. “Just... just another minute.”
“Okay,” Beca whispers back.
She doesn’t know why they’re whispering.
She doesn’t know how they’re alive right now.
What she does know is that, even though they’re on a flying death trap, in this moment there’s nowhere else she’d rather be.
(And that’s terrifying, too.)

'CAUSE IN HOLLYWOOD, THINGS ALWAYS END UP LIKE THEY SHOULD (1/1)
RATING: T. PAIRING: Bechloe. WORDS: 4.2K. SUMMARY: Beca doesn’t even want to work on movie sets anymore, but she’s kind of glad she showed up to this one. NOTES: Bechloe Week 2021 day 6: Famous AU.
***
Apparently noticing the sheer mortification in Beca’s expression, Chloe studies her for a brief moment, before jerking her thumb over her shoulder and further into the trailer. “Do you need water? You look a little flushed. I get it, it’s super hot out here today.”
It is incredibly warm today, even by Los Angeles’ weather standards, but that is not the reason Beca’s entire body has turned entirely tomato-like—the ridiculously beautiful, previously shirtless celebrity currently standing before her is very much more to blame.
“Here,” Chloe says when Beca doesn’t manage to form a response, “come on in, I’m gonna get you some water.”
The smart move would be to decline and scurry directly back to Theo with her tail between her legs, but it proves difficult for her to force her feet into action as she watches Chloe—who is somehow even more perfect in person—sweeping back into the trailer to set down the package and fix her that promised water, so Beca only gawks, before cautiously shuffling further inside.
“Between you and me, the production staff on these things are always super unfairly overworked,” Chloe frowns as she flits back over with a filled cup in hand, offering it politely out to Beca. “Are you okay?”

Our First Mother’s Day
A/N: Sorry, this wasn’t ready for posting on Mother’s Day; but you know, life and all that.
Summary: From the Firefighter!Chloe AU. Last Christmas Chloe helped deliver her son Dylan when Beca went into labor at home (see Chapter 11 titled The Spark We Created in my 12 Days of BeChloe Christmas - 2021).
Dylan Beale is now five months old and his mothers will be celebrating their first Mother’s Day. Chloe wants to surprise Beca by doing something special.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Good morning, handsome,” Chloe said as she lifted 5-month-old Dylan from his crib.
Dylan waved his arms and legs as Chloe held him against her chest.
“How’s my boy doing this morning?” Chloe asked, kissing the top of Dylan’s head.
Beca came rushing into Dylan’s room.
“Give me kisses,” Beca said, leaning in to kiss Dylan’s cheek.
“What about me?” Chloe pouted.
Beca shook her head and smiled as she reached up to kiss Chloe.
“I’d love to stay home with you both, but I have to meet my dad,” Beca said. “I don’t want to be late. You know how he gets.”
“Bye, mommy,” Chloe said in a baby voice while waving Dylan's hand at Beca. “Tell gramps I said hi.”
“I love you, guys,” Beca said, sending a wave over her shoulder. “I’ll be home in time for dinner.”
“We love you, too,” Chloe called after her.
Chloe took Dylan to the changing table and proceeded to change Dylan’s diaper.
“Finally,” Chloe said, looking down at Dylan. “I didn’t think mommy would ever leave. It’s just you and me now. Let’s get some breakfast and then get dressed so we can take Max for a walk and then go get momma a surprise for Mother’s Day. It’s only two weeks away and we’re going to do something extra special for her. Are you with me?”
Dylan cooed and smiled; Chloe’s heart melted.
“You are so adorable,” Chloe said, smiling down at Dylan. “And, you’ve got your mommy’s beautiful smile.”
~~ Our First Mother’s Day ~~
Chloe had just finished packing Dylan’s diaper bag when the doorbell rang.
“I wonder who that could be?” Chloe mumbled as she picked Dylan up and made her way to the door.
“Hey, Chloe,” Stacie said.
“Hey, Stacie,” Chloe said. “What brings you by?”
“I love my wife, but I needed to get away from her and her hormones for a bit,” Stacie said. “Do you mind if I hang out with you and Beca for a while?”
“Beca went to help her dad with something,” Chloe said. “Dyl and I were actually just leaving. You’re welcome to come with us if you want.”
“Bless you,” Stacie said with a relieved smile. “Where are you headed?”
“I’m taking Dylan to get some pictures done for Beca for Mother’s Day,” Chloe said. “Since she’ll be at her dad’s most of the day, I thought today was the perfect time to get it done.”
“Oh, that’s right,” Stacie said. “It’s your first Mother’s Day since having Dylan.”
“Yeah,” Chloe said as she grabbed the diaper bag. “Just think, you and Aubrey will be celebrating next year.”
“I’m looking forward to it,” Stacie said, smiling as she followed Chloe to the garage.
Chloe threw the diaper bag onto the backseat and secured Dylan in his car seat as Stacie got into the passenger seat. Chloe got behind the wheel and started the car.
“Want to get lunch when you’re done with Dylan’s photos?” Stacie asked as Chloe started the car.
“Are Aubrey’s hormones really that bad?” Chloe laughed as she pulled out of the garage.
“Yes, they are,” Stacie said with a sigh.
~~ Our First Mother’s Day ~~
Chloe and Stacie had just been seated at a Mexican restaurant near the photo studio. Stacie frowned as she looked around.
“Something wrong?” Chloe asked.
“I’m feeling guilty,” Stacie said. “Aubrey loves this place and I left her home alone.”
“You could always order her something to go,” Chloe said.
Stacie smiled. “That’s a great idea. I’ll surprise her with her favorite.”
“Um,” Chloe said. “I think you should call her and see what she wants. When Beca was pregnant, I thought I was being a good wife and took home some subs from the deli near the station because she always raved about them. I handed them to her and she practically threw up as soon as she smelled them.”
“Aubrey has had a lot of morning sickness,” Stacie said. “And I’m still baffled why it’s called morning sickness, when she’s sick morning, noon, and night.”
Chloe chuckled. “That’s so true.”
The waitress took their order and Stacie mentioned she may need to place an order to go before they left.
As soon as the waitress left the table, Stacie pulled out her phone and called Aubrey.
“Hey, babe,” Stacie said when Aubrey answered.
“Where are you?” Aubrey asked.
“Beca was busy today so I’m having lunch with Chloe and Dylan,” Stacie said. “We’re at the little Mexican place you love and I thought I’d check to see if I can bring something home for you.”
“That’s sweet but I don’t think my stomach will handle it well,” Aubrey said. “But I would love it if you would stop by the market on your way home and pick up some dill pickles. I’ve got a craving for pickles and ice cream; we already have the ice cream.”
“Gross,” Stacie muttered. “Of course, babe. I’ll let you know when I’m on my way home. I love you.”
“I love you, too,” Aubrey said. “Tell Chloe I said hi and give Dylan kisses for me.”
“I will,” Stacie said and ended the call. She looked at Chloe. “Brey said hi.”
“What’s gross?” Chloe asked.
“What?”
“When you were talking to Aubrey, she said something and you muttered gross. What was that about?”
“Oh, she wants me to stop and pick up some dill pickles,” Stacie said, grimacing. “She has a craving for pickles and ice cream.”
“Gross,” Chloe said, shuddering at the thought. “I’m so glad Beca never had that craving or I’d have been the one with the morning sickness.”
~~ Our First Mother’s Day ~~
Later that night, Beca and Chloe were laying in bed, discussing Mother’s Day. Beca had invited their parents over for a nice brunch and they were discussing what to have.
“Let’s have it catered,” Beca suggested. “We’re moms now so we should be able to sit back and enjoy our day just like our moms.”
“I’m loving that idea,” Chloe said.
“I’ll get the number from Stacie and call the caterer she uses for their Christmas Eve dinners,” Beca said.
“They do have good food,” Chloe said.
Beca snuggled closer to Chloe and said, “We should invite Stacie and Aubrey. Stacie said both their moms were going to visit one of their other kids for Mother’s Day.”
“I think that’s a great idea,” Chloe said. “I know Stacie’s a bit overwhelmed with Aubrey’s hormones and weird cravings right now. Oh, and let’s make sure we have some pickles and ice cream on hand, just in case.”
“Why?” Beca asked, scrunching her nose.
“That’s what Aubrey has been craving, so I thought we should be prepared.”
“Ew, gross,” Beca said.
“That’s what I said,” Chloe said, chuckling.
Beca kissed Chloe’s shoulder and threw her leg over Chloe’s waist, sitting up so she was straddling Chloe’s hips.
“Oh! I guess we’re done talking,” Chloe said as Beca leaned down to capture her lips in a heated kiss.
~~ Our First Mother’s Day ~~
Three days later, Chloe was sitting in her office at Headquarters updating the report on her latest arson investigation. Her personal cell rang and she picked it up expecting to see Beca calling her. Her eyes widened in surprise when Benji’s name popped up on her caller ID.
“Hey, Benji,” Chloe said. “What’s up? How’s everything?”
“Um, I’m sorry to bother you, Chloe,” Benji stammered. “I’ve been trying to reach Beca for a while and she’s not answering. Do you know where she is?”
“She’s working,” Chloe said. “She said she’d be in the studio all day today so her phone is probably off or sitting on her desk. What’s going on, Benji? Why do you need Beca?”
“I don’t need Beca,” Benji said. “Stacie does. It’s about Aubrey.”
“What happened, Benji?” Chloe asked, standing and grabbing her bag.
“Stacie had to rush Aubrey to the hospital this morning,” Benji said. “She was bleeding and had some pain. Stacie thinks she’s having a miscarriage and is freaking out. She called me because I’m Aubrey’s family and local, but I’m at the Station and can’t get away. I think someone needs to be with Stacie and I thought Beca would be the best choice.”
“I’ll go,” Chloe said. “I’ll also get in touch with Beca to see if she can meet me at the hospital later.”
“Thanks, Chloe,” Benji said. “I really appreciate this.”
“I’ll call you later, okay?” Chloe said as she rushed out of her office.
Beca’s studio was on the way, so Chloe decided to go there first to see if Beca was able to go with her to the hospital.
“Hey, Mrs. Beale,” the security guard said as Chloe approached his desk.
“Hey, Joe,” Chloe said. “I really need to see Beca, can you call Dani and ask her to tell Beca I’m here and it’s urgent?”
“Sure thing,” Joe said, picking up his desk phone. “Yeah, hey, Dani, it’s Joe at the Security Desk. Mrs. Beale is here and says it is urgent that she needs to see Beca right away.” Joe listened, nodding his head. “I’ll send her right up. Thanks, Dani.”
Joe pulled out a visitor’s badge and handed it to Chloe. “Dani said for you to go right up.”
“Thanks, Joe,” Chloe said, rushing toward the elevators.
When she arrived on Beca’s floor Chloe was surprised to see Dani waiting for her when the elevator doors opened.
“Follow me,” Dani said, turning to head toward the studio where Chloe assumed Beca was working. Dani confirmed this when she added, “Beca’s still in the studio so I thought it best to just take you there.”
When they reached the studio, Dani opened the door and Chloe followed her in. Beca immediately looked up when she heard the door open and saw Chloe come in with Dani.
“Chloe, what’s wrong?” Beca asked as she stood. “Is Dylan okay? Are you okay?”
“I’m fine; Dylan’s fine, too,” Chloe quickly reassured Beca. “Stacie had to rush Aubrey to the hospital. Benji called and Stacie is alone at the hospital and freaking out. He’s stuck at the station and wants someone to be with Stacie. I told him I’d go but I thought she’d feel better if you were there, too.”
Beca frowned, trying to take in everything Chloe was saying.
“Beca?” a voice called out.
Chloe looked over and was surprised to see Demi Lovato standing there.
“Oh, Demi,” Beca said, looking frantic. “I’m sorry, I have to -”
“Go,” Demie said. “I heard everything, and you should go be with your friend. I’m sure she needs you to be there, more than I need you to be here.”
“Thanks, Demi,” Beca said, turning to Chloe. “I need to get my stuff from my office and then we can leave.”
“Okay,” Chloe said, following Beca and Dani out of the studio.
~~ Our First Mother’s Day ~~
Beca and Chloe rush into the ER waiting room to find Stacie sitting with her head in her hands.
“Stacie?” Beca called out, causing Stacie to look up. “How’s Aubrey? Any news yet?”
“Not yet,” Stacie said with tears in her eyes. “How did you guys know we were here?”
“Benji called me,” Chloe said, taking the seat next to Stacie. “He couldn’t leave the station and asked us to come to be with you.”
Beca sat on the opposite side and took Stacie’s hand in hers.
“We’re here for you,” Beca said, squeezing Stacie’s hand. “For both of you.”
“Thank you,” Stacie whispered while wiping a tear from her eye. “I’m so scared. I don’t know what we’ll do if she loses the baby.”
Stacie let out a sob and Beca pulled her into a hug. Chloe rubbed Stacie’s back as she cried on Beca’s shoulder.
Chloe doesn’t know how long they sat comforting Stacie when a doctor came out and called out, “Family of Aubrey Posen?”
Stacie jumped up. “I’m her wife.”
“Oh,” the doctor said. “I’m Dr. Winston. Your wife is being taken down for a C-section.”
Stacie reached out and grabbed onto Beca’s hand. “Is, um, is she, are they going to be okay?”
“Your wife will be fine,” Dr. Winston said. “The baby is in distress and we feel the best course of action is to perform a C-section to give your baby the best possible chance of survival.”
“Oh, thank God,” Stacie muttered. “Can I be in the room with her?”
“Yes, ma’am,” Dr. Winston said. “Come with me and I’ll take you to the operating room to get you ready.”
“Do you want us to call your families?” Chloe asked before Stacie could walk away.
“Uh, yeah,” Stacie said. “Beca has my mom’s number. You can call Benji and get Aubrey’s parents’ number. And let him know what’s going on, too, please.”
“We’ll take care of it, Stacie,” Beca said. “You go take care of Aubrey and your baby, okay?”
“Okay,” Stacie said as she followed the doctor.
Chloe pulled out her phone. “I’m going to call my mom first. Ask her to stay with Dylan until we get home. I’ll call Benji after.”
“Good thinking,” Beca said, pulling out her phone. “I’ll call Stacie’s folks.”
~~ Our First Mother’s Day ~~
Mother’s Day found Chloe sneaking into her and Beca’s room with Dylan as Beca lay sleeping.
“Wake up mommy, Dyl,” Chloe whispered as she sat him on Beca’s stomach.
Dylan flopped forward, nuzzling to try and latch onto Beca’s breast through her thin tee shirt.
“Chlo, stop it,” Beca groaned. “It’s Mother’s Day and I get to sleep in.”
Chloe giggled and Beca opened one eye to see Dylan laying on her while trying to suckle her breast.
“Ew, Dylan,” Beca groaned. “We’ve talked about this. Girls do not like guys who drool.”
“Sorry, mommy,” Chloe said in her baby Dylan voice. She chuckled and added, “Somebody’s hungry.”
“Can you get him so I can at least take my shirt off?”
Chloe reached over and lifted Dylan off Beca. Beca pulled her shirt off and placed her pillow behind her so she could sit up. Chloe handed her Dylan and Beca helped him latch on again and smiled down at him.
“Happy Mother’s Day,” Chloe said, smiling at Beca and Dylan.
“Happy Mother’s Day,” Beca said, cupping Chloe’s cheek to pull her into a kiss. “I love you.”
“I love you, too,” Chloe said.
Chloe laid on her side next to Beca, resting her head on her hand. “Have you spoken to Stacie since Aubrey and Emma went home?”
“Yeah,” Beca said. “They’re both doing great. Aubrey’s still a bit sore, but other than that Stacie said she’s in good spirits. I asked if they wanted to spend their first Mother’s Day with us, but she declined. She said they weren’t ready to take Emma out anywhere just yet.”
“That’s understandable. We’ll have to plan to go over there soon,” Chloe said. “Check in on them and introduce Dylan and Emma.”
Chloe suddenly sat up with a smile. “Wouldn’t it be something if our kids grew up together and became a couple?”
“That would be something,” Beca said with a small chuckle. “Oh, I have something for you, mama.”
“I, well Dylan has something for you, too, mommy,” Chloe said. “You’ll get it once everyone is here.”
“Okay,” Beca said. “We’ll wait and open everything later.”
Just then the doorbell rang and Chloe jumped off the bed. “That’s probably the caterer. I’ll show them where to set everything up and come back up to help get Dylan ready for his grandparents.”
~~ Our First Mother’s Day ~~
Several hours later, everyone was full and sitting around the living room talking. Beca was sitting next to Chloe on one end of the sofa; Beca was holding Dylan. Their moms were sitting on the other side of Beca, cooing over Dylan. Beca’s dad and stepmom were sitting side by side on the loveseat across from the sofa. Paul and Carl were in the kitchen getting everyone drinks.
“Hey, babe?” Beca said looking at Chloe. “Would you get the gifts we got for our moms?”
“Sure,” Chloe said, standing and leaving the room.
Paul came into the living room, carrying a tray with drinks on them. Carl was right behind him, carrying another tray with desserts. They moved from person to person, letting them take their drinks and a dessert plate as they went.
“The food today was wonderful, Beca,” Sheila said. “I think it was a smart move having it catered.”
“Thanks,” Beca said. “I used the same caterer our friends Stacie and Aubrey use for their traditional Christmas Eve dinner.”
“How are Aubrey and the baby doing?” Sarah asked.
“Aubrey went home three days after Emma was born, but Emma had to stay an extra week and was able to go home two days ago,”  Beca replied. “Stacie said they’re both doing well. We invited them over today but they aren’t ready to take Emma out anywhere quite yet.”
“That’s probably for the best,” Charlotte said. “Preemies are more susceptible to catch whatever is going around. She’s been through enough already.”
“Chloe and I are going to make plans to visit sometime soon,” Beca said. “We haven’t seen Aubrey or Emma since the day Emma was born.”
“Here we go,” Chloe said, carrying in four large gift bags and a few wrapped gifts of varying sizes.
“Let me help you,” Ben said, standing and taking the wrapped gifts from Chloe.
“Thanks, Ben,” Chloe said. She handed Sheila a bag. “This is for you but you’ll have to wait to open it.”
“Thank you,” Sheila said, smiling at Chloe.
“Mom, this one’s yours,” Chloe said, handing Charlotte a bag. “Same rules for you; no opening until I tell you.”
“Thanks, dear,” Charlotte said.
“Sarah, here you go,” Chloe said. “You know the drill.”
“Thank you, Chloe,” Sarah said, chuckling as she set the bag on the floor.
Chloe took the wrapped gifts from Ben and laid them on the coffee table in front of her.
“Okay, Beca,” Chloe said, sitting next to her wife and handing her the larger of the wrapped gifts. “You have to open this before anyone can open their gift bags.”
Chloe took Dylan from Beca and sat him on her lap with his back to her front. Beca took the gift and started ripping the paper from the box. Dylan grabbed at the paper and Beca laughed as she let him take a piece of it. Dylan giggled and waved his arms around, smacking Chloe in the face. Chloe gently took his arms and held them down; she smiled at him and kissed the top of his head.
Beca opened the box and found a framed picture of Dylan. He was wearing a firefighter’s uniform and Chloe’s fire helmet was sitting next to him.
“Aww,” Beca cooed over the photo. “He’s so cute. Where did you find that outfit?”
“I have my sources,” Chloe said with a grin.
“I love this,” Beca said. “Thank you.”
She kissed Dylan’s cheek and then kissed Chloe.
“Can we see?” Sarah asked.
Beca turned the photo around and showed it off to the grandparents. They all oohed and awwed over it. Dylan just giggled and put his fist with the wrapping paper in his mouth.
“Oh, no sweetie,” Chloe said, grabbing his hand and taking the soggy paper. “We don’t eat paper.”
Beca put the framed photo back in the box.
“Okay, grandmas,” Chloe said. “You can open your gift bags now.”
Each of the grandmothers opened their gift bags and lifted identical sweatshirts and tee shirts; each bearing the same photo of Dylan that Beca had received.
“Oh, my gosh, Chlo,” Beca cooed. “They are so freaking cute.”
“Don’t worry, babe,” Chloe leaned in to whisper to Beca. “I had one made for each of us, too.”
Beca leaned in and kissed Chloe. “You are the best!”
“These are so adorable,” Sheila said. “Thank you.”
“I love that I can show off my grandson in cold and warm weather,” Charlotte said as she put the tee-shirt on over her blouse.
Sarah just smiled as she, too, put her tee shirt on.
Beca picked up the smaller wrapped gifts and started handing them out.
“These are from me and Dylan,” she said, handing one to Chloe as well.
The women opened the gifts to find a mother’s/grandmother’s necklace with Dylan’s name and birthstone attached.
“It’s made so if we have any more kids we can easily add another name and birthstone to it,” Beca said.
“If?” Chloe said, looking at Beca with a raised eyebrow.

Bechloe Week 2021 - Day 1! July 26th: “Cause I’m in love with you, dumbass!”
Read on AO3
Beca let out a slow groan as she woke up.
God, I think I’m dying.
She attempted to open her eyes but the light was too bright, and the pain in her head was too much.
Her mouth was dry and she could still taste the tequila from the night before. It made her stomach turn.
She tried to remember what had happened but she didn’t even remember getting home last night.
Chloe’s gonna kill me.
As if she’d been summoned by mere thought, Beca heard the soft footsteps of her fiancée - if she still was her finance - entering the room.
“Am I dead?” Beca asked, her voice rough like sandpaper.
Chloe let out a soft chuckle and sat on the edge of their bed. She pressed a cool hand to Beca’s forehead and the brunette practically whimpered at the contact.
“What did I do last night?”
“Well, you won a Grammy, and then got very drunk at Amy’s afterparty,” Chloe said.
Beca groaned again. She had a vague recollection of making a speech that she had definitely not prepared and she felt the heat of embarrassment rise up her neck.
“How bad was I?” Beca asked.
“Let’s just say it’s lucky Amy doesn’t allow phones or cameras in her parties,” Chloe said, trying hard not to laugh at Beca in this pathetic state.
“So my career isn’t over?”
“No,” Chloe said. “You gave a very cute and rambling speech in which you thanked me twice, and you didn’t drink anything until we were away from the cameras.”
“Good,” Beca said, feeling a small amount of relief.
“How are you feeling?” Chloe asked. “I don’t think I’ve seen you that drunk since college.”
“Yeah, I feel like I’m currently dying a very slow and painful death. I don’t know how I got so drunk, I don’t remember any of it,” Beca said, sitting up and rubbing her left eye. “I hope I didn’t embarrass you or anything?”
“It was your first Grammy win,” Chloe said. “I’ll let you off.”
“Was I a pain in the ass?” Beca asked, already cringing in preparation.
“No,” Chloe said, laughing. “It was like taking care of a toddler. Pretty good practice for when we have kids.”
“Great,” Beca said. “That’s exactly how I want my fiancée to view me.”
“It’s not my fault you asked for a bedtime story.”
Beca groaned and then seemed to notice what she was wearing. “This isn’t my shirt.”
“No,” Chloe said. “Once I finally managed to get you into some pyjamas you threw up on them. So I just grabbed the closest thing I could find.”
“God. Please kill me now.”
“I don’t think he’s listening,” Chloe said, laughing as Beca attempted to burrow back beneath the blankets and hide.
“How are you not mad at me?”
“You were being very cute if it helps,” Chloe said. “How can I be mad at you when you’re telling me how much you loved me every ten seconds?”
Yes, Beca had been a drunken mess at the after party. She had done way too many shots of tequila and had almost broken her neck by dancing on a table. She had even almost started a fight with some random guy who was talking to Chloe because she thought he was hitting on her.
“Ms Mitchell, I’m gay, I promise I wasn’t flirting.”
“Oh my god, dude, same! Look, she’s my fiancée!”
“I know.”
“Look at her!”
She’d spent the entire night making sure Chloe wasn’t bored or left out. And she also told everyone who’d listen that they were recently engaged, and just how hot she looked.
She even stole the DJ’s mic to make an announcement about it, but Chloe didn’t think she needed reminding of that right now.
During the Uber ride home, Beca started getting even more clingy.
“Everything’s so spinny.”
“I know.”
“Don’t let go, I'll float away.”
Chloe gave the Uber driver an extra large tip in the hopes that he wouldn’t say anything.
When they’d gotten back to the apartment Beca’s motor-function skills got even worse.
She barely made it up the front step, and ended up lying and giggling in the hallway while Chloe looked for their keys.
“Chloe, hey, psst, Chloe,” Beca whispered, giggling.
“What?”
“I won a Grammy.”
“I know baby, I’m so proud of you.”
“Chloe, Chloe, guess what?”
“What?”
“You look pretty and I love you.”
“Let me get you some more water and aspirin. I’m sure I could rustle up some pancakes and bacon too,” Chloe said, again feeling the same rush of affection she’d felt the night before. Even when Beca had thrown up and had mascara smudged all over her face, Chloe felt nothing but love for her tiny drunken Grammy winning fiancée.
“Chloe am I gonna die?” Beca groaned as Chloe peeled off the vomit covered pyjama top.
“Not today.”
“‘Kay,” Beca sniffed.
Chloe helped Beca stand and lead her to the bathroom. She sat her on the edge of the tub and handed her a toothpaste covered tooth brush.
“You can do this yourself right?”
“Of course. I’m a grown up,” Beca said, proudly taking the toothbrush before smearing most of the toothpaste on her cheek. “I’m a Grammy winner,” she said, her words muffled by the toothbrush that she had finally gotten in her mouth. “Betht new artitht.”
“I know,” Chloe said.
“Thtarted from the bottom and look at me now.”
“Uh huh,” Chloe said. She grabbed one of her own pyjama tops for Beca to wear, because she couldn’t find any of Beca’s and she didn’t want to leave her unsupervised for too long.
“That’th not mine,” Beca said before she spat out the toothpaste and wiped her face. “You like it when I wear your clothes, huh?”
Chloe smiled and tried not to roll her eyes.
“Sure baby,” she said. She handed it over to Beca who pulled it on before throwing Chloe an exaggerated wink.
“You’re adorable,” Chloe said.
Beca turned to look at herself in the mirror. “I’ve never looked hotter.”
“Why are you being so nice to me?” Beca asked, poking her head out of the covers. “This is all self-inflicted.”
“‘Cause I’m in love with you, dumbass,” Chloe said, kissing Beca on the cheek. “And you’d do the same for me.”
Beca smiled. “I would.”
“I should hope so.”
