I’m imagining calling him it during fun times and him ether ignoring it or just laughing

[I think it was Boo Boo the Fuck Fool, actually. I think that started when I was first sketching him, and he kind of looked like a fluffy clown. But I started digging how silly he was getting. He's also commonly called Vespacito.]

Questions I’ve gotten so far about godspousing:

How does that sort of relationship initiate?

Frequently, it initiates like other platonic person-deity relationships happen. You either seek them out intentionally or you are inundated with signs (we often call this godbothered) from the deity. Usually in a platonic person-deity relationship -- think pagans called to worship a specific god -- the person often does astral work or gets divination done to figure out what the deity wants. For godspouses, sometimes that answer is “to date you” instead of “for you to worship / work with me.”

There are other ways this can happen, of course. There is a type of interaction in which the person knows that certain symbols, signs, themes have been around them their whole life, and then later (when they’re of age, or when they look into godspousing), they realize it’s a god trying to get their attention.

Sometimes, not infrequently (but take caution in assuming this is the case all the time), deities end up having human partners whose bonds last over lifetimes, past lives, astral lives, what have you. Usually, in these cases, the deities will seek out the person again in this life and try and build a relationship with them. It shouldn’t be a thing that’s forced; it’s a willing courtship and an eternal bond.

There are certain types of interactions that start up godspousing that are very inhuman (divine, godly), like this last case, but a lot of the relationship meet ‘n’ greets are very much like how humans form relationships. You meet someone, hit it off, and ask if they wanna date you.

What is your role as a godspouse?

This changes from person to person. To quote a few of my friends on the matter, they can be: bedpets / bedwarmers, lovers, romantic partners, consorts, political allies, priests, etc. People can even be tools for the deity to use (willingly, with consent) to spread knowledge and information. (It’s part of what *I* do.)

It’s a lot simpler to think of the human part of the godspouse relationship as being an individual with unique needs. Godspousing has no set requirements. You determine those with your spouse of choice, if any. A lot (and I mean a lot) of godspouses are intimate, romantic partners and nothing else. There is no grand scheme, just a loving, wholesome relationship.

What differentiates it from deity worship?

Not every godspouse worships the deity they’re with. The relationships can be very human. You wouldn’t worship your irl date unless you negotiated that beforehand, and that’s even a niche kind of kink.

Most of godspouses don’t worship the deities they’re with, and those that do tend to be in what we’re calling godservant roles, where they’re devoted/dedicated to the deity they’re dating. It can be expressed in many ways -- King/Consort, Teacher/Student, God/Priest, etc.

There is some contention with labeling these relationships as human-like, but I’m trying to keep things simple for explanation purposes, so keep in mind it varies again from person to person.

Is there any way it would become unsafe for you to be in that relationship?

Sure, but you would have to ignore a lot of red flags or already have unsafe practices going on for that to happen. In my little community, at least, we’re all about consent. Even those of us who are in godservant roles or those of us who were ‘fated’ to be with our deity for lifetimes over... we were still given the choice to choose the deity we are with. (Or, we knew full well what we were signing up for the moment we did agree to it.) Consent is the most important thing here. Consent and being fully informed.

There are bad relationships out there, certainly, but the same can be said for any relationship. Bad folks exist. Miscommunication exists. You can only avoid it by being open with your feelings and thoughts, communicating readily with your otherspouse, and making sure that everyone is on the same playing field when decisions are made.
