Day is here early because I was honestly just too excited for it. And we're back with yet another fantasy AU!
Except this one is HEAVILY based on the Ancent Magus' Bride (except platonic version basically) because the main character of that show is heavily cTommy coded, and I swear that is an objective fact and not just me being mentally ill /j
Anyway, go give it a read guys!
Summary:
The newest arrival had a dark forest green robe instead of everyone else’s gray one. And, as the light hit them, Tommy noticed that they had a veil with a childish smiley face drawn on it instead of the white masks he’d seen around. With no warning, they grabbed the chain still hanging from Tommy’s shackles and yanked him up. “Five million golden ingots” They announced, eyes still firmly on Tommy. They glowed faintly even through the veil, so Tommy could tell. They must have been a brilliant green. Murmurs rose from the audience. Nobody had a higher offer. It wasn’t surprising, that was an absurd amount of money to waste on him. The announcer had been left speechless as well. And for the first time in a long time, Tommy felt something other than a bone-deep exhaustion. As a light breeze moved the veil out of the way for just a moment, allowing him to gaze at the spidery features below, Tommy experienced a genuine sense of awe. “It’s decided” the creature spoke again after a moment too long of the announcer not saying anything. “I will make you my apprentice”. or, I yoinked the Ancent Magus' Bride setting and storyline with none of the romance aspects and completely lost my mind over it. Enjoy

Paint
Tubbo likes to paint. He’s always loved it, as far back as he can remember; when he was very small, barely a toddler, he’d stuff his hands into buckets of paint and smear them across the walls of his house, squealing with delight. His mother would only watch, smiling with a hand covering her mouth. Never trying to stop him. He wonders why she didn’t. He’s glad she didn’t.
As he got older, he also grew more refined—but only slightly so. He no longer buried his arms into paint buckets, and instead used the tips of his fingers to strike lines across a canvas. He’d use all sorts of colors; ones that blended together and ones that clashed, ones that calmed and ones that excited. He’d use anything and everything. He’d even tried mud, once.
And as he grew even older, his love of painting shifted to a love of other forms of art, mainly sketching. He got into the habit of always carrying around a notebook, just in case he got inspired—or perhaps very bored.
Tubbo never really considered himself a great artist, but he liked to believe that he was at least halfway decent. At the very least.
So it was that many years after Tubbo’s first adventures in painting—and many nations later as well—Tubbo found himself sitting in the living room of his house, hunched over on the couch as he uses a pencil to draw a picture in his sketchbook. In all honesty, he’s not quite sure what he’s drawing. It was originally going to be a simple honeybee, but he’d gotten carried away, adding flowers and grasses and a sky until the single honeybee became a honeybee in the midst of a sprawling field.
Tubbo likes it. It’s a bit messy, but he likes it. He hasn’t drawn anything this detailed in a while.
“What are you doing?” Ranboo, who’d been quiet up to this point, sets his book aside, leaning forwards in his chair. Tubbo glances at him in surprise, staring a moment before returning to his own book.
“Sketching.”
There’s quiet. “Sketching?”
“Yeah. Just doodling.”
More quiet. “Doodling? What’s…”
Tubbo furrows his brow. “You sound confused. What are you confused about?”
“Oh, I don’t know… I guess, like… what’s, um… what’s sketching? And doodling? I’ve never really, like, heard those words before.”
“Waitwaitwait, Ranboo.” Tubbo looks up from his book, setting his pencil into the center of it. “You don’t- have you seriously never heard of sketching? Seriously?”
Ranboo’s ears twitch as he softly clears his throat. “I don’t… think so?”
~~~
BEEDUO!!!!
Ranboo’s already clueless on Many Things including pronouns alsgoavsiagai he would also be confused over art. I think.
I’d never really thought of Tubbo as an artist before writing this, so… not too sure where that came from XD
For this ask game :)
Tommy doesn’t let him leave, or sleep himself.
They move back to his room when the waves start to make his insides roil in tandem, and Tommy sits, wide-eyed and curled up like a child on the bed. Hours crawl by like shifting ice, and Ranboo is glad of his stolen minutes of unconsciousness, troubled as they were. He sits, stiff, in the armchair, with his ankles crossed on the chest at the end of the bed, watching the rain while Tommy stares, nigh unblinking, at the door.
He wishes there was a clock in the room.
“We should talk-”
“No,” Tommy shakes his head, white-knuckled grip straining against the fabric of his trousers’ knees, “not tonight.”
The fae tilted its head to the side as it looked Tubbo over, and to his ever-increasing horror, it smiled, and Tubbo got to see a row of far-too-sharp teeth. When it spoke, its voice was almost melodic in a way that made Tubbo feel as if he’d been suddenly dunked into a bucket full of ice water.
  “I’m going to assume you were expecting someone else.”
***
Tubbo Underscore, like the other children of the village of Mellohi, has had two lessons drilled into his skull since birth. Never enter Enderlon Forest, and never ever trust a fae.
Perhaps he shouldn't have made friends with Tommy.
Come On With The Rain, There’s A Smile On My Face
Read on A03!
Title from Singing In The Rain by Juniper Vale!
I ALSO HAVE A BEEDUO PLAYLIST!!!
Anyway, reblogs are a writers best friend, y’all; they really do help out a TON!
~~~
Ranboo pulls his blanket tighter around his shoulders, despite it not being very chilly. It couldn't hurt to add a little bit more protection against the rain—just in case any drops leak through the roof.
Couldn't hurt at all.
Tubbo sighs beside him, long and deep. Ranboo waits a few seconds before sighing as well.
Tubbo smiles. "Why are you copying me?"
"I'm... just trying to... um..." Ranboo pauses, gathering his thoughts. "I've never watched, like, a storm before. I'm trying to make sure I do it... right."
Tubbo chuckles, but strangely enough, he doesn't sound teasing. "You can't do stormwatching 'right', Ranboo. You just watch."
"Oh."
Thunder booms, and Ranboo jumps, clutching his blanket tighter in his hands. He feels his heart pounding inside his chest, a little thunderstorm of it's own.
"You know we're safe here, right?" Tubbo says softly, gazing out at the downpour. "I made sure that nothing could leak through."
"Yeah," Ranboo replies, just as softly. "I know. It's still... unnerving, though."
Tubbo doesn't say anything, so Ranboo decides to continue. "Y'know, watching the rain, ri-right outside. So close to me. I never... do that, really. I usually just hide."
Ranboo feels his face darken with embarrassment. That was too much. I shouldn't have said that.
Tubbo hums. "You really haven't ever seen a rainstorm before?"
Ranboo's face grows even darker. "No."
"That's very interesting. And a little sad."
"I know, I just- I don't want to miss it, but I do because of water, and- and then-"
"I'm not blaming you."
Ranboo blinks, turning to look at Tubbo and see if he's telling the truth. People tease, sometimes. They make jokes and poke fun at him, and Ranboo doesn't ever realize it until he's made a fool of himself.
But Tubbo doesn't look like he's joking. He looks very serious, in fact; genuine.
The goat-hybrid turns his head to look up at Ranboo, who averts his eyes before they can make contact. Tubbo's eyes flick away, too.
"I just meant that storms are really cool," Tubbo continues. "And it's kind of sad that you've never witnessed one." He grins. "Better late than never, though, right?"
"Uh, yeah, yeah," Ranboo forces a smile onto his face, laughing quietly. "Better late than never. Yeah."
Tubbo's smile lessens, and he turns back to the storm. Ranboo swallows, doing the same.
He's not quite sure why Tubbo had built the shelter on a mountain. Maybe to get away from everyone else, or to have a better view of the SMP. Whatever the reason, Ranboo and Tubbo are alone, and it doesn't look like anyone will be joining them later.
Which is... kinda nice. It's nice to get away from everything, and it's nice to not be around everyone else. Especially Tommy.
It's nice, with just Ranboo and Tubbo. Tubbo isn't as loud as everyone else, or nearly as confusing. He's... quiet. Or at least, quieter.
Ranboo thinks that maybe Tubbo could be a friend. Or a potential friend. Someday, at least.
"Do you like them?"
"Hm?" Ranboo blinks, bringing his attention back to the present. "Like what?"
"Storms. This storm, at least. Do you like it?" Tubbo draws his legs to his chest, resting his head on his knees. "It's okay if you don't. I'm just curious."
"Oh." Ranboo hesitates, licking his lips. "Like... you want to know?"
"Yeah, man." Tubbo yawns. "Why else would I ask?"
"I don't know... sometimes pe-"
Sometimes people are confusing.
Sometimes people ask questions but don't ever truly want an answer.
Sometimes I just don't know.
Ranboo swallows, pushing all those thoughts away. Not now. Not yet, at least. "Um..."
He takes a deep breath, looking out in front of him. The rain has come in a very thick sheet, turning the distance to a hazy blur of colors. The clouds are dark, rumbling with thunder. The sound is nice; a calming, loud hiss of millions of water drops hitting the ground all at once. It's like a little choir.
"I like the sound," Ranboo answers. "It's like... nature singing."
Tubbo nods. "I like that. That's very poetic."
Ranboo blushes. Him? Poetic? That's a first.
"Is there anything else you like?" Tubbo continues, blinking slowly. "Or just the sound?"
"Well, the clouds are pretty, I guess. I like how dark they are."
"Yeah. Clouds are cool."
"Yep."
Silence falls between them, but it's not awkward, like most silences are. It doesn't crackle with tension and unspoken words. It's just... quiet. It feels natural. It feels right.
It's strange. But it's a good kind of strange.
"What about you?" Ranboo asks, even though part of him wants to stay in the silence for a while longer. "Do you like storms?"
"Uhh... yeah, I suppose so. I like how loud they are—but a different kind of loud, y'know? Not loud like a shout, or an explosion, but loud like a laugh, or a cheer. It's a good kind of loud. I like that a lot; it's different from how quiet the weather usually is."
Tubbo opens his mouth, pauses, and then continues. "It's like nature letting out this primal scream. Getting all that pent-up tension out in the open, y'know?"
He blushes, turning to look at Ranboo sheepishly. "Sorry. Philza says I can be rather morbid at times."
Ranboo blinks in surprise. "No, you're all good. Everyone says I can be a little weird sometimes as well, so I get it."
Tubbo flicks his eyes away, seemingly lost in thought. Then he smiles. "We can be weird together, then."
Ranboo's eyes widen. "We can?"
"Yeah!" Tubbo's smile turns into a grin. "We can run around the SMP terrorizing everyone with our weirdness! It'll be awesome!"
"Uh, y- yeah, um, yeah, sure, that sounds..." Ranboo fumbles for the right word, giving up when he can't find it. "That sounds... yeah. Although, m-maybe terrorizing is a bit strong, y'know, for-"
"Nah."
"Oh- oh, okay." Ranboo goes quiet, glancing at Tubbo with only slight concern before looking back at the rain.
Tubbo is very odd. Probably the oddest person Ranboo's ever met—and he's met some pretty odd people in his short life. But... Tubbo isn't scary. Concerning and mildly disturbing, sure, but not scary. In fact, he seems almost... what's the right word? A little bit of comfort, a little bit of safety, a little bit of joy, and a little bit of something else. Something Ranboo's not quite sure how to describe.
Ranboo sneaks a glance at Tubbo, who has his eyes closed, a happy look on his face as he points his head towards the rain. He looks almost peaceful, actually.
Ranboo clears his throat. "Thank you. For...  for bringing me here."
Tubbo blinks his eyes open, glancing at Ranboo with a glint in them. "Of course. It's been fun, having somebody to stormwatch with."
"Yeah. Yeah, it has been fun," Ranboo says, surprised with his own words. Who would've though it; him, an enderman hybrid, enjoying the rain?
Tubbo breathes in deeply, letting it out in a sigh. "We should probably head back soon. Tommy gets really clingy whenever I'm gone for too long."
"Oh." Ranboo tries not to sag. He doesn't want it to end yet. He wants to stay here just a little bit longer. It's been so nice...
Tubbo glances at him. "You know... there's a beach nearby. It looks really cool during the sunset. Maybe sometime we could-"
"I'd love to!" Ranboo exclaims, cupping his hands over his mouth immediately, ears going warm. "Sorry. I got excited."
Tubbo chuckles. "No worries. It's a date, then!"
Ranboo freezes. Tubbo freezes.
"Um... I didn't... mean it like that," Tubbo explains awkwardly, flicking his ears. Ranboo nods, eyes slightly wider than usual.
"I see."
"Uhhh..."
This time, the silence between them is awkward. So awkward it makes Ranboo's skin crawl.
Tubbo suggests that they leave a few minutes later; the storm is lightening up anyway, and if they stay up any longer then they risk the sun setting on them.
And so they leave. They stand, brush themselves off, and begin the trek down the mountain, trying not to slide on the slippery rocks as they go. They busy themselves with conversation about food and the beach, Tubbo's hair getting steadily more wet as the minutes drag on. Ranboo stays relatively dry with a coat covering his head, to which he's grateful for. He wishes Tubbo had brought a coat for himself, though. He must be cold.
It's... enjoyable, in a way nothing has been enjoyable before. Ranboo doesn't feel nervous—or at least, not as nervous as he usually feels. Rather, he feels comfortable, as if he can say anything and not be looked at strangely or made fun of.
It's nice. Really, really nice. Ranboo thinks that Tubbo enjoys it as well, if his big smiles are anything to go by.
Ranboo can't wait for them to go beach-watching together.
____
Tubbo was right: the beach is beautiful at sunset. The sky glows with a reflection of the orange-streaked sky, and the sun sits, half under the water and half in the air. The waves are calm, crashing against the shore with soothing sounds. Seagulls fly through the air, chirping and diving into the ocean to catch fish.
Tubbo grins next to him.
Ranboo smiles back.
Yes, he's almost certain that Tubbo could be a friend. A very odd one, a very unique one.
But a very good one as well.
