I got your clarification! More feral Optimus & Bumblebee coming right up anon! Although I also took the opportunity to expand on the whole feral concept.

Pack Mentality

All Cybertronians posses certain traits that once helped them to survive during Cybertron's early days when Predacons still roamed. Most of those habits and instinctual coding are no longer required and have been made void by long years of technological advancement. In response the coding that allowed these traits to present themselves so intensely has all but gone dormant in a majority of the population, that is for a few odd exceptions.

Extreme stress or long term exposure to a bot with activated base coding during a sparkling's youth can lead to the old codes remaining online. Optimus and Bumblebee were affected by both of these situations, albeit to different degrees. The Prime grew up wild, spending nearly as much of his life in the wastes and the spire forests as he did in the archives as Orion Pax. He was forced to be civilized, but the coding never actually went dormant as it should have due to how deeply it had been engrained into his personality and behavioral responses. Bumblebee grew up during the height of the war where death hung around every corner while also being constantly kept around Optimus. His base coding did not grow to be as active as his Sire's, but he was still very much feral in the optics of others when he allowed his control to slip.

As a general rule both Optimus and Bumblebee have learned to keep the old codes suppressed, or at least to not heed them. But in times of stress or discomfort, they both tend to fall back on those base codes, often without even realizing it. And while it is sometimes an irritant, it has also proven to be a saving grace for the team time when morale is low.

After intense battles, Bumblebee can get clingy, really clingy. He naturally gains an intense desire to be around those he considers his pack, seeking protection and comfort. And while he can and often does tend to drape himself over one of the team, hugging them or holding onto their arms and following them around, on rare occasions he needs something more. When Bumblebee doesn't feel secure or is particularly drained, he goes to his Sire. And Optimus being the type to never deny his sparkling affection gladly allows Bee to clamber onto his back, rest his face against the crook of his neck, and magnetize himself to his armor. Of course since Bee is no longer a small sparkling, the magnetization isn't enough to keep him secured to Optimus's back, so he tends to cling onto the Prime like a koala as well.

Optimus in response often finds himself singing quietly, wrapping his sparkling in waves of love and reassurance through his field. He usually doesn't realize it, but when Bee is strapped to him, he reverts to a degree and begins doting on the rest of the team as well. In his mind if his sparkling, the most loved and protected among them is uncomfortable, then the others must surely be in need of care as well. As such he will often meander around base, his work put aside as his coding urges him to check on the rest of those he sees as his. With the children it means he carries them around in one servo or on his shoulder, singing tunes just low enough for them to hear.

With Arcee, Bulkhead, and Wheeljack, Optimus will leave them small gifts of energon or even just offer them silent praise in the form of an affectionate brush of fields. Ratchet and Ultra Magnus can find themselves receiving massages to stiff cables and gentle touches to the shoulders and arms as a form of reassurance. And lastly Smokescreen, despite not being Optimus's sparkling, often finds himself wrapped up in a hug and doted on, his armor being polished by the Prime all while Bumblebee continues to hang off Optimus's back.

Smokescreen: Sir, I- Uh- I don't think this is necessary.

Optimus: Hush young one. Let me care for you.

Smokescreen: But I'm not your sparkling! Uh- no offence of course!

Optimus: Does it matter that you were not raised by me?

Smokescreen: Well, I mean-

Optimus: You are a youngling under my care. You are not of me, but you are family.

The team learned to accept the odd sight of Bumblebee clinging to Optimus and the Prime in turn doting on everyone with relative ease. Although for a little while the newcomers were a bit weirded out by the whole thing. Of course the clinging and caring is merely the most obvious fallback the scout and Prime have. More often than not their active base coding presents itself in smaller ways.

When Bee happens to find himself unable to speak, even with his makeshift vocalizer, he falls back on the most basic form of communications Cybertronians have. He speaks through his field and tonal indicators, using his field to present emotion and general the general idea of what he is getting at and using small sounds and electronic chirps to accentuate what he is referring to. Ratchet having been forged during Cybertron's earlier ages knows enough about EM field communication to translate for Bumblebee on such days. But the rest of the team being far younger and not having active base coding can't figure out what he is saying to save their lives if it is anything more complex than basic emotions like anger or joy. This can frustrate Bumblebee beyond belief and lead him to spiral. Thankfully that is often when Optimus steps in.

On those days he will translate for his sparkling when Ratchet cannot and at the same time soothe his charge by using his own field to speak to him. Quiet rumbles and the sound of what could be the steady tune of a song long forgotten echo through the base when Optimus works to relax his scout and son. All throughout the day Optimus will work tirelessly to comfort and reassure Bee through any kind of non-verbal communication available to him. And should all else fail and Bee still find himself unable to speak, Optimus will take him away and in the solitude of his quarters sing the lullaby he always uttered to Bee when he was small. At the same time he will cuddle with the scout, letting Bee cling to him as he sings in low comforting tones.

Thankfully it is not only stress or sorrow that can activate their base coding, but also joy. When Bee gets excited he naturally allows his battlemask to fall and show off his fanged denta, usually with a small chirp or beep. The team finds it adorable but says nothing for fear of embarrassing the scout more than he already tends to be after such events. As for when Optimus gets excited, its far quieter, but his finals perk up and are highly expressive. Not only that but his optics cycle wider than what should be possible for a normal mech, leading to mixed confusion and awe on the teams part as he gazes at them with huge glowing optics meant for a predator.

Curiosity also has its effects. To this day Optimus will still automatically trail any small glowing light that he catches sight of. It is an instinctual habit designed to help him track prey and possible predators that has mostly fallen by the wayside since coming to earth. He never chases the lights, that would be foolish. But every now and then just to be funny, Ratchet will pull out a cat laser and point it at the nearest wall, instantly causing Optimus's attention to snap to it before he even realizes it. Optimus's reaction is small, Bee on the other hand though... if he isn't keeping a tight leash on his coding or is feeling particularly stressed he will fly at small lights like the laser with wild abandon. This has led him to break multiple tables and nearly crush the human children the one time they tried to use a flashlight and tell scary stories in base. The team find it hilarious, but try not to use the laser to taunt the scout as he always comes back to his sense mere moments after flying at the lights.

Wheeljack would rather not find himself with a scout crawling all over and chewing on his outer plating again after he thought it would be hilarious to point a light at himself to see if Bee really would come at him.

Then of course anger and danger leads the codes to come to the forefront of the Prime and scout's minds too. Whenever Optimus feels there is a threat and he isn't dealing with the Matrix, he will automatically find himself standing protectively in front of his team, facing the potential threat with plating flared and a growl burning in his throat. When arguments happen in base, he tends to bodily put himself between the two bots involved in the conflict, even scruffing them if he really isn't paying attention. Ultra Magnus and Ratchet will never live down the moment they got into a heated debate and ended up scruffed and limp in Optimus's arms until he deemed them calm enough to be let go. Since that and a few other similar incidents, the team try to argue in private if at all. There is no greater humiliation than being scruffed by your own commander and Prime after all.

For Bee when he feels threatened or angry he tends to go ever so slightly feral if he is not in control of himself. On the battlefield this leads him to join Optimus in flaring his plating and facing the enemy, shuffling around the team and playing sheepdog as he herds them into a protective circle for Optimus to better guard. With arguments in base where Optimus is not present to disrupt them, Bee will naturally make himself smaller and more innocent looking. It's not really on purpose, but at that point he will then quietly cuddle up against the bot most aggressive appearing, humming and wrapping his field around them to calm them. It works like a charm most of the time, and should that fail, he scurries off to find Optimus who will then scruff the perpetrators with no remorse.

Their base coding can sometimes be irritating, but the team finds it more entertaining and relieving than annoying.
