I adore how frogish Beelzebufo is here
So often animated amphibians just miss the something to their behavior - the repositioning, the posture adjustments, the lil blinkies, how they breathe, those oh so scary lunges. the little cleaning gesture.
And he looks wet! Moist, even! Like a frog out of the water just barely too long! It’s so perfect!
Impeccable portrayal of the most majestic creature on this show
look at this. terrifying. devil toad. quake in fear.
The Only thing I’d say is that. guys. riled up frogs will try to mate with anything. males. fish. rocks. rubber boots.
imagine if he’d tried a sexy amplexus hug on the Rapetosaurus.

Paleovember 2023, Beelzebufo!
Coming from Late Cretaceous Madagascar, this was the largest frog to ever exist, growing up to the size of a dinner plate. Much like modern frogs, this ‘devil toad’ would have been a predator, and its size would have enabled it to feed on a wide variety of small animals, including baby dinosaurs.

Commission for @beelzebufo . The greenery was a challenge but I’m very happy with how it came out!

Are there fossil frogs you like?
I'm not super familiar with fossil frogs, tbh. But I am a great appreciator of a good name, and Beelzebufo ampinga is a particularly good name. And it's from Madagascar—double points!

As the dry season hits hard in the Maastrichtian of what is now the Maevarano Formation of Madagascar, an Adalatherium digs up a small puddle wriggling with tasty Beelzebufo tadpoles…and inadvertently provides a welcome supper for a hungry Falcatakely, while two Simosuchus clarki casually ignore the tadpole-eaters go about their fern-eating business.

Happy Fossil Friday!
Who: Beelzebufo "The Devil Toad"
name meaning: Beelzebub (Lord of the Flies), toad
pronunciation: Bee-ell-ze-boof-oh
What: A horned toad
When: Late Cretaceous
Where: Madagascar
Fun fact!: Is the largest known frog species to have ever existed
Why are they cool?: The head was likely covered in scutes (bits of bony scale-like bone like the plates on the back of a crocodile) giving it a horned, protected cap of bone across its head.

Another sketch brought to you by #paleostream!
Beefzebufo, laying its eggs in a temporary pond, produced by "dinoturbation" (that's a real thing). In other words, a sauropod came through here :P

@oh-mother-i-cannot-weave replied to your post “”:
for a second i thought that said beelzebufo and thought this was a post about paleontology. sorry op mb
Love the name! :) (About the Beelzebufo, the prehistoric frog. The generic name Beelzebufo is a portmanteau of Beelzebub (a Semitic deity whose name may be translated as "Lord of the Flies"))
