So, I already edited and added to this one before and it took two hours and then tumblr glitched and saved none that and instead posted my original messy draft and I didn't realise for several hours and was very annoyed which is why this is coming now rather than sooner.
I've decided to save my full David and Syd analysis until after watching season three, so this is just my stray observations post while watching the last three episodes of season 2.
- If David hadn't been off fucking Future Syd maybe he could have prevented the delusion spreading through Division 3 and maybe Ptonomy could have survived. Also, I know they were limited timewise, and I know they haven't really known what to do with Ptonomy since season 1, but couldn't we get at least one shot of his friends mourning him?! If not David and Syd, at least Melanie? Wasn't it implied they worked together a significant amount of time at Summerland? I know his consciousness is being kept alive in a computer or whatever, but they didn't know that at the time!
- I want to know how Clark and Syd's 'girl talk' moment came to be. Do they meet for tea regularly? Talk about their love lives and exes? I'm not sure how I feel about Clark's story about the boy in the army he loved who kept jumping out of planes to get away from him. I feel like it might have been better to get something more real in that moment than bizarre (especially when we know he had a husband and son that he lost due to his obsession with David). I read a review that treated the army boy story as serious and emotional but like... he parachuted away from him, and then one day his parachute didn't open?! It's just occurred to me thst I might be taking this too literally like the autistic stereotype I am but honestly in a show like Legion that's the sort of thing that would be intended to be taken literally and not as a metaphor so I don't even know anymore...
- Literal or not I did not miss the parallel of Syd jumping out of a plane and parachuting down to get to David. Honestly, parachuting into the desert and immediately kicking your boyfriend in the shins is such a power move.
- In general it feels like the show doesn't know what to do with Clark, and I worry that he'll meet a similar fate to Ptonomy as a result. Hopefully not!
- Admiral Fukuyama was created to keep the secrets safe from the telepaths...now he works with them? I liked seeing some of how he came to be, but it honestly it left me more confused. Also, if all he has is the metalwork around his head, I don't really get why he wears a basket...its probably just a meaningless visual I'm reading too much into... I love the visuals of Legion a lot, but I do feel like sometimes 'this would look cool/weird/strange' is the only reasoning behind things and it doesn't always land with me.
- So this absolutely should have gone in my TUA comparison post, but I remembered writing it, got confused, and thought I'd already posted it rather than stuck it in a stray observations draft...whoops. David choosing to not tell anyone his plan as Farouk would read their mind and instead manipulating them all as an alternative - it's the first time David, as David has acted based on his own thoughts and feelings and I'm questioning if he's doing the right thing. I couldn't help but think of Five Hargreeves line to Viktor in The Umbrella Academy, 'You know what they call a superhero who acts alone and doesn't listen to anybody? A villain.' (Having now reached the end of the season I wasn't wrong)
- Farouk previously talked about David's white father taking over and telling his people what to do (sidenote: who are Farouk's people? I thought he might mean mutants, but the white part of the line then doesn't make sense. It's unclear if Farouk is Moroccan like the comics or Iranian, since he speaks Farsi, but in this universe, did Professor X colonise Morocco/Iran?!?) He also talks about white people being cast as the heroes when speaking with Future Syd, and he's got a point, but the show needs to commit if it truly wants to address this. Yes exoticism has been used as short hand for villainous in the past, yes the writers of Legion didn't create or name Amahl Farouk, they're just (loosely) adapting the comics, and yes David does reveal himself to be a villain rather than a hero. But like...Farouk is still also a villain? So yeah, your blonde blue-eyed white man might be a monster, but that doesn't erase all the things Farouk has done (including helping turn David into a monster). Also, him being free at the end is down to his manipulations and control of others, right? Because the whole of Division 3 isn't so stupid as to let him walk free, right?!?
- 'You're the song they play outside a hostage crisis to keep criminals from thinking clearly.' This is just a great line I wanted to highlight. Syd could have just called Lenny a distraction but went with this beauty instead.
-The show that talked about delusion and moral panic then tries to blame technology for helping create narcissists and not seeing others as real people. It feels like that stupid 2014 video that claimed using our phones meant we'd miss out on meeting the love of our life because we won't ask her for directions. It's such nonsense. I've seen people who watched it when it aired say that technology is just a framing device for discussing narcissism and not meant to be seen as the blame, but if that's the case, sorry, they did a shit job because it absolutely feels like its proselytising about the evils of tech. It feels so incredibly out touch and tactless, and I wish they cut it, especially as the John Hamm narrative segments had reached a natural conclusion just the episode before. Having enjoyed the segments until now, it's disappointing that this is what they were building to.
-I think they were aiming for 'the desolate' or 'desolation' but 'Le désolé' just means 'the sorry' I checked with a French friend to make sure, and they confirmed it. You can use désolé to mean desolate, but only if there's a noun in front of it so this doesn't work.
- I'm not sure if the two David in David's mind are meant to be alters or like a devil and angel on his shoulder (really hope it's the latter because DID has been demonised enough and I don't trust the show to not be another Split honestly) but as someone who watches with subtitles I got the fun insight that their names are apparently Divad and Dvd.
- I've seen some people say Legion is set in the '60s/70s but we're never given a year, right? Considering it's a parallel universe I thought it was just another present day low/no tech AU like The Umbrella Academy or Manic. Especially as a lot if the tech we see feels more steampunk than 1960s . I get why a reviewer called the depiction of an MRI scan in season 1 anachronistic now, since MRI was only invented in 1977 (sidenote: as a student radiographer I will still never get over that scene. I was so ready to just accept it as a made up experimental scan and then they said the words MRI and I had to pause it, I was laughing so hard because it's sooo bad)
- I watched two whole seasons of this show and thought Melanie was played by Kim Cattral, but she isn't, she's played by Jean Smart! TWO SEASONS. I hadn't heard of Jean Smart before now, but honestly her and Kim Cattral are twins.

I accept prompts, if I have the time, as long as they’re TUA or cast related in some way. I make them as HQ as the source will allow, within the size restrictions of tumblr. I work with Adobe Photoshop and do my own editing. I put a lot of work and effort into these - please do not repost without credit!
Note; ‘Art set’ is defined as gifs/set that are edited beyond the conventional cut and colour, so to speak. Including but not limited to: special animations, effects, timing sequences, blending, texturing, etc. are found in anything labelled ‘Art set’.

5 works tag game
Rules: it’s time to love yourselves! choose your 5 (ish) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
tagged by @ogaferoga and @kneworder, thanks guys!
5. tua s2 moments that were totally all in the show i swear
this was pretty fun to draw, and i’m happy with how recognizable everyone is (especially vanya). also fun fact: aside from a couple duplications of letters i’d already done, i freehanded all the text for some reason. none of those are real fonts, which i’m sure any actual typographers following me will be relieved to know
4. salvage zuko
i didn’t even finish this and i’m still giving it a spot on the list, even over one of the comics i made, just because it makes me so happy :) salvage might be my favorite fanfic ever (honestly all of @muffinlance‘s works are worth reading and i will continue to shill for her at every reasonable opportunity) and i’m just generally very pleased how this turned out
3. a dawning revelation
to this day i still don’t quite know what possessed me to make this comic. it was as close to an impulse decision as something that takes 50+ hours of work can even be, i’d never done anything like it before, and i had no reason to believe it would get any engagement, as i had literally two followers at time of posting. it’s still my post popular post, and i still smile every time someone leaves a comment on it. whatever drove me to make this, i’m really glad i did, because this disaster of a year was made just that much better by the chance to actually show people the art i make for the first time in my life. relatedly, i want to take a moment to say to everyone who leaves comments on anything creators make: thank you so much, seriously. not just on behalf of the artists and writers but also on behalf of the other people who like the things they make, you’re a big part of why they keep making things.
2. constellation map theatrics
you know what, i don’t even have much to say about this one. i just get an inexpressible amount of joy from looking at stars and based on the responses i’ve gotten to this comic this may be the first time i’ve successfully conveyed that feeling to other people
1. they couldn’t sleep
this one might hold the record for the closest i’ve ever gotten to creating exactly the image i had in my head. it might have something to do with how much more symbolism there is in this one than i usually include in my drawings, or how vividly i could picture the emotion i wanted to get across. it could also be because i’d just learned about ambient occlusion and finally put some actual thought into how lighting works. who’s to say, really
i have absolutely no idea who has and hasn’t been tagged already, but @deuynndoodles @wastefulreverie @wintermoth @actualdannyfenton @anthropwashere @prince-liest @isono-s-den

“4 blueberry muffins and 1 hot chocolate to go please.” I smiled at Sinthia. Her eyes crinkled as she grinned and started shuffling behind the counter.
“No chocolate chip cookies today?” She asked as she bent down behind the shelf.
“Nope, he’s not in a good mood today. Blueberry muffins are for turning the sour mood into sweet, they somehow always work.”
“I think we both know why they work sweetheart.” Sinthia said as she came up from behind the counter with a paper bag in her hand. I tilted my head to the side and looked at her with a puzzled face, silently asking her what she meant.
“Don’t you remember the first time you both met in this very cafe?”
I smiled as the fond memory replayed in my head.
“The usual Sinthia, thank you.” I smiled at the little woman behind the counter and moved to the side.
My phone vibrated in the back pocket of my jeans. Pulling it out I saw that it was my mom calling, my fingers immediately swiped across the screen.
“Mama!”
“Come stai mio caro? (How are you my darling?)
“Sto bene mama, come stai?" (I’m doing well mom, how are you?)
“Sono grande dolcezza, come vanno le lezioni? Com'è Y/f/n?” (I’m great my sweetness, how are classes? How’s y/f/n?)
“Le lezioni sono frenetiche mama.”(The classes are hectic mom) A sigh escaped past my lips, “Ma per fortuna ho Y/f/n per superare tutta la merda.” (But luckily I have Y/f/n to get through all the shit.)
“linguaggio!” (Language!) I chuckled as she laughed in return. I could imagine her shaking her head, eyes rolling at my behavior.
“I-”
“Excuse me sweetheart.” I whipped my head around to see Sinthia looking at me.
“Yes Sinthia?” I asked my mom to wait for a second and muted the call.
“That young man over there” She pointed to a man behind me. I turned around to see a man with blond hair sitting in the corner booth, his chin perched on his palm as he stared out at the street.
I turned back to look at Sinthia, “What about him?
“He has ordered a blueberry muffin too. But the problem is that I only have one of those sweet treats left and he looked really upset. Do you mind if I give it to him? I can pack your favorite chocolate scones instead.”
I smiled, “Of course, it’s no big deal.”
Sinthia grinned and patted my shoulder, “You really are a gem, tesoro.(Darling)”
“Y/n? la mia bambina? (My baby girl?)”
“Shit” I muttered as I realized my mom was still on hold.
“Mama, posso richiamarti prima o poi? (Mom, Can I call you back in sometime?)
“Certo baby” (Sure baby)
“Va bene, ciao mama, ti amo!” (Okay, bye mom, I love you!)
“Ti amo troppo cara!” (Love you too dear!)
Cutting the call, I saw Sinthia circling around the counter, probably going to give the stranger his order.
“Hey Sinthia, wait up!” She spun around to look at me.
“Do you mind if I give it to him?”
“Do you mind if I ask why?”
“Just wanted to see the man who was stealing my favorite food.” A sly smile took over my face and Sinthia giggled, handing the tray to me.
“He’s all yours.”
I looked down at the tray to see a cup of black coffee and the blueberry muffin I had been craving since yesterday. Shaking my head, I made my way to the corner booth.
“Hey, um, excuse me”
He turned around to look at me, “Yes?”
Suddenly, I couldn’t speak. He was gorgeous, absolutely breathtaking. His blond locks were messy on top of his head, mask pulled down to his chin, lips full and red. His eyes bore into mine as I stood there frozen, unable to do anything in front of the Greek-God like human. He also looked awfully familiar.
“Um?” His voice snapped me out my stance as I cleared my throat and let out a breath I’d been holding since the minute my eyes landed on his beautiful face.
“I, uh, I have your order.” I said, placing the tray on the table.
“Oh, thank you, I didn’t see any waitress when I had walked in?”
“Oh no, I’m not a waitress.”
Now I had begun to question my decision of serving him, why did I ask to do this again? This was probably the stupidest decision of my life.
“Oh okay?” He frowned as he looked up at me.
Without thinking, I quickly slid into the seat in front him and began talking.
“I’ve been coming to this cafe for almost 3 years now. I moved here when I got into Seoul National University. This has kind of been my safe place since then, not to mention Sinthia has been a mother like figure for me. She also helps me learn Korean and sometimes gives me yummy treats for free. Anyways, so today we were partnered up for a literature project and I was paired up with this cocky jock who’s so fucking full of myself. Then someone spilled their coffee on my favorite white top. It’s just been a shit day and I really wanted one of Sinthia’s blueberry muffins with the delicious dark roast she makes. But then it turns out you looked upset too so I let you have the last blueberry muffin.”
At the end of my mini rant, I squeezed my eyes shut, face turning red from embarrassment. I had literally just said random shit to a complete stranger who already looked like he wanted to be left alone.
“Here.” His voice made me snap open my eyes.
He was wiping his mouth with a tissue as he passed me the remaining half of the muffin.
“It looks like we both need something to lighten up.” He smiled and I swear I felt my heart skip a beat.
And then suddenly, it clicked.
“Holy shit” I mumbled.
“Is everything okay?”
I looked him dead in the eye, “You’re RM! Oh my god I just said complete nonsense to one of the biggest stars in the world.” I leaned back against the seat and mentally smacked myself for making a fool out of myself in front of one of  the world’s biggest idols.
“Cosa c'è che non va nella tua ragazza!” (What is wrong with you girl!) I muttered to myself.
“Ahh you recognized me, but for now I’m Namjoon.” He took out his hand for me to shake, a small smile still tugged on his lips.
I took a deep breath and calmed myself down and took his extended hand in mine.
“Hi Namjoon, I’m Y/n.”
“You’re Italian Y/n? I heard you speak on the phone earlier.”
“You heard me?” I squealed.
He laughed, “Yeah, it’s 1am in the morning and we’re the only ones here.”
“Wait, you know Italian?”
“A little bit, I could catch a few words you spoke.”
“Half Italian, half Spanish actually.”
“That’s interesting.”
“You bet.”
“Oh by the way, I have no clue why I just came and dumped all of my problems on you, I’m really sorry for that.” I sighed and inwardly cringed at my actions.
“Aigo, stop worrying. Tell me more about your literature project and this jock you’re paired up with.”
“Y/n! Earth to Y/n?” Sinthia waved her hands in front of my face. I jumped slightly and laughed, “Sorry, took a little trip down the memory lane.”
Her face beamed at my words as she passed me the bag of muffins and the cup of hot chocolate.I took out my wallet to pay but was stopped by little hands clutching my fingers.
“Don’t, it’s on me tonight.” Sinthia grinned.
“But I-”
“No buts Y/n, go make your superstar boyfriend’s day.”
“You spoil us too much I swear.”
****
“Noona!”
“Jungkookie!”
Our laughter died in the air as we embraced each other. I pulled back and ruffled his black hair as he gave me his famous bunny smile.
“How are you noona?”
“I’m great Kook, is he still in the studio?”
“Yeah, he’s working on some new tracks with Yoongi hyung.”
“And that of course means he must have not eaten for hours.” I sighed, his habits always worried me.
“You got that right.”
“Good thing I come bearing treats.” I said, raising the paper bag in my hand and shaking it with a cheeky smile on my face.
A big smile stretched across his face as he made grabby hands towards me.
“Gimme Gimme Gimme”
I giggled,”Take one Jungkookie, we have to save some for Yoongi and Namjoon hyung.” Jungkook happily retreated one muffin from the bag and released a content ‘hmm’ after taking the first bite.
“I’m gonna go and see him now Kookie.”
He nodded. “He’ll be happy to see you.”
“알아,준비 됐어 “ (I know, I’m prepared)
His eyes widened as his choked on the muffin. I laughed loudly and made my down the hall to the Rkive.
Knocking twice I heard Yoongi shout, “뭐?” (What?)
Without replying, I opened the door, revealing Namjoon and Yoongi hunched over the studio board. Namjoon’s eyes met mine and a big grin stretched across his face.
“Hi Y/n” Yoongi said smiling while getting up.
“Hey” I said and pulled him in for a side hug.
“What’s that?” He asked, looking at the paper bag in my hand. I opened it and tilted it towards him, “Have one”
He looked down and pushed his hand inside it, pulling out a muffin. A gummy smile appeared on his face as he turned around and pointed at Namjoon,”당신은 자신에게 맞는 여자를 얻었다” (You got yourself the right girl.)
Namjoon chuckled and flipped him off. Yoongi stuck his tongue out at him, gave me one last toothy grin and made his way out of the room, shutting the door behind him.
“Hey” He said as I walked towards him, placing the muffins on the side table. Swinging my leg across his thighs, I straddled him, my arms locking behind his shoulders. His hands take a hold of my waist, face nuzzling in my neck. His deep breath hits my skin, making a shiver run down my spine. I took my right hand and massaged his scalp earning a little whine from him. I giggled, the soft boy in my arms making my heart turn to mush.
“You’re too cute.” My soft voice broke the comfortable silence.
He looked up at me and snorted, “I’m sorry, have you looked at yourself in the mirror jagi? You’re literally the definition of cute.”
Now it was my turn to snort, my hands cupped his rosy cheeks as he leaned in my palm, “Stop being cheesy Joonie.”
“Can’t help it when it comes to you.” He placed a very soft kiss on my lips, letting it linger for a few seconds. My heart combusted at the action, senses fogging as I lost myself in the feeling of his soft lips on mine.
“I got you something to eat.” I said pulling away and getting up. Picking up the bag of muffins, I threw them in his lap and sprawled across the small couch.
He opened the bag and whistled,”You know me too well.”
He immediately started munching on the muffins, now looking much more relaxed under the dim lights of his studio.
“You can’t keep doing this you know.”
“Doing what?” His voice came out muffled as he chewed on the delicious muffin.
“Neglecting your health, overworking, stressing too damn much.”
“I don’t do it purposefully.” He grumbled, brows furrowing.
“I know baby.” I turn to my side and fold my arm, plopping my head on my palm.”But you have to take care of yourself Joon, your heath should be the priority.”
He wiped his hands against the back of his sweats and came towards me. In the next second, I was squeezed below Namjoon’s body.
I squealed, “What the fuck are you doing?! Namjoon!”
“Hmm” He mumbled as his arms circled around my figure and pulled me closer to him, if that was even possible.
“Get up Joonie.” I whined from under him.
“No” He grumbled, placing his head on my chest, his long legs draped over mine.
“We’re too big for this couch Namjoon.”
“Doesn’t matter, just wanna be close to you.”
My breath hitched in my throat as I repeated his words in my head. He was too good to me, I didn’t deserve an angel like him. I shifted underneath him and he whined in return.
“닥쳐 (shut up), I’m trying to get comfortable.”
He hummed.
I smiled to myself.

THE BOOK OF JUDITH* - From The Douay-Rheims Bible - Latin Vulgate
Chapter 6
INTRODUCTION.
The sacred writer of this Book is generally believed to be the high priest Eliachim, (called also Joachim.) The transactions herein related, most probably happened in his days, and in the reign of Manasses, after his repentance and return from captivity. It takes its name from that illustrious woman, by whose virtue and fortitude, armed with prayer, the children of Israel were preserved from the destruction threatened them by Holofernes and his great army. It finishes with her canticle of thanksgiving to God. Ch. --- He was a chief officer at court, under Ezechias, (4 K. xviii. 18. H.) before he was high priest, assuming his father Helchias's name. Many suppose that he was the author of this Book, as Josephus informs us that the priests recorded the most remarkable transactions. But this would prove that they wrote all the histories of the Bible. S. Jerom (in Agg. i. 6.) seems to believe that Judith left these memoirs. Yet we have no certain proof of the author. Josephus passes over this history, as he professed to exhibit only the Heb. books. Ant. x. 11. Prol. &c. S. Jerom doubts not but this was written in Chaldee, from which language he translated it; unless he caused it to be first explained to him in Heb. as he did the Book of Tobias. C. --- He might, however, have attained sufficient knowledge of the former language, which is so like the Hebrew, before he undertook this work. H. --- He professes to give "the sense," rather than a verbal translation. The Greek must have been taken from another copy, and is followed by the Syriac, in which we find some passages more exact than in the present Greek copies. The original is entirely lost. It might have removed many difficulties. Those however which are started by our adversaries, are not unanswerable. Grotius would suppose that this work is only a parable, representing the state of the Jewish church under the persecution of Epiphanes. But this singular notion has no foundation; and if it had, the authenticity of the Book would not be endangered, as the parable both of the Old and New Testament are certainly true, and written by inspiration. C. --- Luther styles it a poetical comedy; (Pref. et Sympos. 29.) but both Jews and Christians have esteemed it as a true history: (W.) and this innovator (H.) allows, that "the Book is beautiful, and written by an inspired prophet." C. --- The Fathers have looked upon it with the utmost veneration; and S. Jerom, though he was at one time under some doubts, placed it on a level with the Books of Ruth, and Esther, &c. Ep. ad Principiam. --- It is admitted by Origen, Tertullian, S. Chrys. S. Hilary, V. Bede, &c. as the history of a most valiant matron, delivering God's people from a cruel tyrant. W. --- Some place this event under Cambyses, son of Cyrus; (Euseb. S. Aug.) others under Xerxex, (Torniel) or Darius Hystaspes, (E.) or Ochus: (Sulp. Severus) but the opinion which has been given above is more accurate; (C.) or rather Bethulia was saved, while Manasses was in captivity, (in the 10th year of his reign) and the high priest administered affairs in his absence. At this point, Judith might be thirty-five years old. She lived seventy years afterwards; and many days (perhaps eight years more) passed before the country was invaded by Pharao Nechao. C. xvi. 30. Thus Manasses survived 45 years, Amon 2, Josias 31; total 78. This chronology removes every difficulty. Houbig. Pref. --- If true, it seems probable that the work would be originally in Heb. as the Chaldee was used only after the captivity, (H.) which may be farther proved from C. i. 15. Greek. Houbigant. --- Protestants prefer to translate this and the other apocrypha from the Greek. M.

This Catholic commentary on the Old Testament, following the Douay-Rheims Bible text, was originally compiled by Catholic priest and biblical scholar Rev. George Leo Haydock (1774-1849). This transcription is based on Haydock's notes as they appear in the 1859 edition of Haydock's Catholic Family Bible and Commentary printed by Edward Dunigan and Brother, New York, New York.
TRANSCRIBER'S NOTES
Changes made to the original text for this transcription include the following:
Greek letters. The original text sometimes includes Greek expressions spelled out in Greek letters. In this transcription, those expressions have been transliterated from Greek letters to English letters, put in italics, and underlined. The following substitution scheme has been used: A for Alpha; B for Beta; G for Gamma; D for Delta; E for Epsilon; Z for Zeta; E for Eta; Th for Theta; I for Iota; K for Kappa; L for Lamda; M for Mu; N for Nu; X for Xi; O for Omicron; P for Pi; R for Rho; S for Sigma; T for Tau; U for Upsilon; Ph for Phi; Ch for Chi; Ps for Psi; O for Omega. For example, where the name, Jesus, is spelled out in the original text in Greek letters, Iota-eta-sigma-omicron-upsilon-sigma, it is transliterated in this transcription as, Iesous. Greek diacritical marks have not been represented in this transcription.
Footnotes. The original text indicates footnotes with special characters, including the astrisk (*) and printers' marks, such as the dagger mark, the double dagger mark, the section mark, the parallels mark, and the paragraph mark. In this transcription all these special characters have been replaced by numbers in square brackets, such as [1], [2], [3], etc.
Accent marks. The original text contains some English letters represented with accent marks. In this transcription, those letters have been rendered in this transcription without their accent marks.
Other special characters.
Solid horizontal lines of various lengths that appear in the original text have been represented as a series of consecutive hyphens of approximately the same length, such as ---.
Ligatures, single characters containing two letters united, in the original text in some Latin expressions have been represented in this transcription as separate letters. The ligature formed by uniting A and E is represented as Ae, that of a and e as ae, that of O and E as Oe, and that of o and e as oe.
Monetary sums in the original text represented with a preceding British pound sterling symbol (a stylized L, transected by a short horizontal line) are represented in this transcription with a following pound symbol, l.
The half symbol (1/2) and three-quarters symbol (3/4) in the original text have been represented in this transcription with their decimal equivalent, (.5) and (.75) respectively.
Unreadable text. Places where the transcriber's copy of the original text is unreadable have been indicated in this transcription by an empty set of square brackets, [].
Chapter 6
Holofernes in great rage sendeth Achior to Bethulia, there to be slain with the Israelites.
[1] And it came to pass when they had left off speaking, that Holofernes being in a violent passion, said to Achior:
Factum est autem cum cessassent loqui, indignatus Holofernes vehementer, dixit ad Achior :
[2] Because thou hast prophesied unto us, saying: That the nation of Israel is defended by their God, to shew thee that there is no God, but Nabuchodonosor:
Quoniam prophetasti nobis, dicens quod gens Israel defendatur a Deo suo, ut ostendam tibi quoniam non est deus nisi Nabuchodonosor :
[3] When we shall slay them all as one man, then thou also shalt die with them by the sword of the Assyrians, and all Israel shall perish with thee:
cum percusserimus eos omnes, sicut hominem unum, tunc et ipse cum illis Assyriorum gladio interibis, et omnis Israel tecum perditione disperiet :
[4] And thou shalt find that Nabuchodonosor is lord of the whole earth: and then the sword of my soldiers shall pass through thy sides, and thou shalt be stabbed and fall among the wounded of Israel, and thou shalt breathe no more till thou be destroyed with them.
et probabis quoniam Nabuchodonosor dominus sit universae terrae : tuncque gladius militiae meae transiet per latera tua, et confixus cades inter vulneratos Israel, et non respirabis ultra, donec extermineris cum illis.
[5] But if thou think thy prophecy true, let not thy countenance sink, and let the paleness that is in thy face, depart from thee, if thou imaginest these my words cannot be accomplished.
Porro autem si prophetiam tuam veram existimas, non concidat vultus tuus, et pallor, qui faciem tuam obtinet, abscedat a te, si verba mea haec putas impleri non posse.
[6] And that thou mayst know that thou shalt experience these things together with them, behold from this hour thou shalt be associated to their people, that when they shall receive the punishment they deserve from my sword, thou mayst fall under the same vengeance.
Ut autem noveris quia simul cum illis haec experieris, ecce ex hac hora illorum populo sociaberis, ut, dum dignas mei gladii poenas exceperint, ipse simul ultioni subjaceas.
[7] Then Holofernes commanded his servants to take Achior, and to lead him to Bethulia, and to deliver him into the hands of the children of Israel.
Tunc Holofernes praecepit servis suis ut comprehenderent Achior, et perducerent eum in Bethuliam, et traderent eum in manus filiorum Israel.
[8] And the servants of Holofernes taking him, went through the plains: but when they came near the mountains, the slingers came out against them.
Et accipientes eum servi Holofernis, profecti sunt per campestria : sed cum appropinquassent ad montana, exierunt contra eos fundibularii.
[9] Then turning out of the way by the side of the mountain, they tied Achior to a tree hand and foot, and so left him bound with ropes, and returned to their master.
Illi autem divertentes a latere montis, ligaverunt Achior ad arborem manibus et pedibus, et sic vinctum restibus dimiserunt eum, et reversi sunt ad dominum suum.
[10] And the children of Israel coming down from Bethulia, came to him, and loosing him they brought him to Bethulia, and setting him in the midst of the people, asked him what was the matter, that the Assyrians had left him bound.
Porro filii Israel descendentes de Bethulia, venerunt ad eum : quem solventes, duxerunt ad Bethuliam, atque in medium populi illum statuentes, percunctati sunt quid rerum esset quod illum vinctum Assyrii reliquissent.
[11] In those days the rulers there, were Ozias the son of Micha of the tribe of Simeon, and Charmi, called also Gothoniel.
In diebus illis erant illic principes, Ozias filius Micha de tribu Simeon, et Charmi, qui et Gothoniel.
[12] And Achior related in the midst of the ancients, and in the presence of all the people, all that he had said being asked by Holofernes: and how the people of Holofernes would have killed him for this word,
In medio itaque seniorum, et in conspectu omnium, Achior dixit omnia quae locutus ipse fuerat ab Holoferne interrogatus : et qualiter populus Holofernis voluisset propter hoc verbum interficere eum,
[13] And how Holofernes himself being angry had commanded him to be delivered for this cause to the Israelites: that when he should overcome the children of Israel, then he might command Achior also himself to be put to death by diverse torments, for having said: The God of heaven is their defender.
[14] And when Achior had declared all these things, all the people fell upon their faces, adoring the Lord, and all of them together mourning and weeping poured out their prayers with one accord to the Lord,
Cumque Achior universa haec exposuisset, omnis populus cecidit in faciem, adorantes Dominum, et communi lamentatione et fletu unanimes preces suas Domino effuderunt,
[15] Saying: O Lord God of heaven and earth, behold their pride, and look on our low condition, and have regard to the face of thy saints, and shew that thou forsakes not them that trust on thee, and that thou humblest them that presume of themselves, and glory in their own strength.
[16] So when their weeping was ended, and the peoples prayer, in which they continued all the day, was concluded, they comforted Achior,
Finito itaque fletu, et per totam diem oratione populorum completa, consolati sunt Achior,
[17] Saying: the God of our fathers, whose power thou hast set forth, will make this return to thee, that thou rather shalt see their destruction.
dicentes : Deus patrum nostrorum, cujus tu virtutem praedicasti, ipse tibi hanc dabit vicissitudinem, ut eorum magis tu interitum videas.
[18] And when the Lord our God shall give this liberty to his servants, let God be with thee also in the midst of us: that as it shall please thee, so thou with all thine mayst converse with us.
Cum vero Dominus Deus noster dederit hanc libertatem servis suis, sit et tecum Deus in medio nostri : ut sicut placuerit tibi, ita cum tuis omnibus converseris nobiscum.
[19] Then Ozias, after the assembly was broken up, received him into his house, and made him a great supper.
Tunc Ozias, finito consilio, suscepit eum in domum suam, et fecit ei coenam magnam.
[20] And all the ancients were invited, and they refreshed themselves together after their fast was over.
Et vocatis omnibus presbyteris, simul expleto jejunio refecerunt.
[21] And afterwards all the people were called together, and they prayed all the night long within the church, desiring help of the God of Israel.
Postea vero convocatus est omnis populus, et per totam noctem intra ecclesiam oraverunt, petentes auxilium a Deo Israel.
Commentary:
Ver. 1. Achior. Gr. adds, "before all the populace of the strangers." And who art thou, Achior, before all this company of foreigners, and the sons of Moab? and what are the mercenaries of Ephraim, that thou? v. 2.
Ver. 2. To shew. Gr. "and who is God but Nabuchodonosor? He will," &c. H. --- They allow the title to none but their king. Neither will God admit of any rival. W. --- The generous advice of Achior was highly resented. Charidemus, who spoke with the like boldness to Darius, when Alexander approached, was even put to death, though the king repented when it was too late. Curt. iii. Diod. xiv.
Ver. 6. People. Gr. "my slaves shall station thee on the mountainous country, and in one of the cities on the ascents, (of which thou hast so much spoken) and thou shalt not perish till thou perish with them. But if thou believest in thy heart that they will not be taken, let not thy countenance fall. I have spoken, and nothing that I have said shall be without effect."
Ver. 7. Bethulia. Travellers, depending on the uncertain traditions of the country, generally place this fortress in the tribe of Zebulon, about three miles west of Tiberias. See Brochard. &c. But S. Jerom places it near Egypt; (Vita Hil.) and the Scripture speaks of Bethul, in the tribe of Simeon, (Jos. xix. 4.) to which Judith and the ancients belonged. Holofernes left his camp near Scythopolis, (C. vii. 1.) when he proceeded (C.) to attack the southern countries. H.
Ver. 11. And. Gr. adds, "Chabris, the son of Othoniel, and Charmis, the son of Melchiel." M. --- The former is, in effect, mentioned C. viii. 9. C.
Ver. 15. Pride. God will not fail to reward those who trust in him, (H.) and to humble the presumptuous. W. --- Saints. Syr. "sanctuary." This version and the Greek have only, "Look upon the face of the persons (or things) sanctified unto thee on this day. And they consoled Achior, and praised him greatly. And Ozias took him from the assembly to his own house, and made a feast (lit. drinking) for the ancients, and they invoked the God of Israel to assist them during all that night." H.
Ver. 18. With us, observing the true religion. M.
Ver. 20. Over. The Jews eat nothing before night, and then no abstinence is prescribed, (C.) as the fast is at an end. H.
Ver. 21. The church. That is, the synagogue or place where they met in prayer. Ch. - For such places were established, particularly after the captivity, though some have denied that there were any synagogues, even in the days of the Machabees. See Mat. iv. 23. Est. iv. 16. C.

XiaoMi Roborock S50 S55 Tuas Crescent Singapore - Are You Ready?
Roborock S5 Robot Vacuum Review: Jack-of-All-Trades, Master of None
Tumblr media
As per a Roborock representative, though the Roborock S5 uses exactly the same program produced by Xiaomi since the S55 (Xiaomi is an investor in Roborock), map information is stored locally on the robot, and just enters the Cloud when a user views the map on the smartphone app. As much as 20 maps are saved in the Cloud at any certain time, and so are deleted after a year. When users delete a map in the app, it's also removed in the Cloud. Much like the app that communicates the Eufy Robovac 30C is designed to control multiple home smart devices. The layout isn't intuitive while the vacuum part of the program is strong. Exactly what the Roborock S5 lacked in cleaning thoroughness, it made up for with speed, cleaning our hardwood and carpeting test region in an average of 15 minutes and 22 seconds, nearly a full hour faster than the Roomba 690 and 45 minutes fast than the Shark Ion R85. It was as quickly as the Neato Botvac D7, that cleaned the evaluation area in an average of 10 minutes, 22 minutes. Mopping performance Among our favourite design elements of this Robovac S5 is its own"hood" Flip up the plastic piece that is and you'll find the dustbin concealed in the middle, together with a Wi-Fi indicator light and system reset button. The S5 was the robot vacuum cleaner we reviewed that had an onboard area to hold the otherwise easy-to-lose tool for cleaning the brush roll, a means to maintain functionality whilst improving the general aesthetic. An indented section near the back is meant to hold the microfiber mop module. When the Roborock S5 get its bearings, it cleaned regions in a detailed back-and-forth snake pattern. The robot vacuum found its way under our dining room table through the maze weaving its way out of one side of the room to another. We appreciated how closely the S5 hewed to walls and seat legs;it tackled walls and borders as the Neato Botvac D7. The vac was also smart enough to completely avoid a thick pile rug which felled other robot vacuums, but its taller height supposed it did not fit under one of our seats or our low-clearance sofa. Overall, the Roborock S5 accumulated an average of 86.8% of all test debris on carpeting --a performance on a par with the Neato Botvac D7, but well below the Shark Ion R85's 97.2 percent. The S5's hardwood performance told a similar story, picking up an average of 83.9% of test debris. The Botvac D7 bested it by 12 percent. Note that Map Saving Mode is currently in beta and must be toggled on separately under Vacuum Settings in the app. We spent a few test runs re-mapping our floor due to the map not saving automatically. Both the expensive iRobot Roomba and the D7 are able to store multiple floor plans. The security firm AV-Test recently evaluated four different robot vacuums' safety, including the Roborock S55 and the Roomba 980. The Roborock S55 performed the worst; AV-Test said this was"Due partially to gross security deficiencies in data transmission, the transport of information to third parties, the app's unexplainable thirst for information, in addition to a very clear need for improvement in the statement on the handling of customer data." The guide recommends running a vacuum cycle that is normal . We did so, but it didn't seem to help. The S5 abandoned the mapped area dull and a little sticky. If it had been possible to use something in addition to water from the mop tank it could have performed better. The Roborock S5 distinguishes itself with a mopping feature that's unique among the robot vacuums we analyzed, but unfortunately, its prowess is much more of a novelty than helpful. A half-inch thin, half-moon-shaped disk with a microfiber pad attached with velcro clicks resides under the rear of the vacuum. Fill the dish with water, click it in, adjust the Cleanup mode and you are ready to clean. If you guessed the Go icon would begin a cleaning cycle, then you would be wrong. Rather, God directs the S5 into a stage on the cleaning map for the bot to perform a place cleaning. Activating the icon that is sterile starts a general vacuuming cycle. Buried in the Preferences menu are five different Cleanup modes: Quiet, Balanced, Turbo, MAX and Mop. The app, and by extension, the vacuum, retain the mode last used. In the center of this robot is a increased laser cap around the Neato Botvac D7 using a splash of orange underneath, similar to the one. Above the cover are bodily buttons for cleaning, on/off and recharging. Maybe due to its white colour, the wall sensors on front and side of the S5 are more noticeable than on other versions, but they don't detract in the bot appearance. The Roborock S5 steps 13.8 inches in diameter, more than an inch larger than the Shark Ion R85; it is also bigger than the 13-inch iRobot Roomba 690 and the 13.2-inch Neato Botvac D7. Cleaning performance Picking up dog hair on both the hardwood and carpet stymied many of those robot vacuums we tested, including the Roborock S5;it picked up only 79.5% of pet hair--10 percent less than the Botvac D7 and 8.5 percent less compared to Ion R85. On the other hand, the S5 did best the Roomba 690's 73.3 percent pet hair pickup speed. "Beginning the cleanup," a cheery voice announces from deep within the Roborock S5. Rather than a string of Morse code-like beeps and chimes employed by the Neato Botvac D7, the Shark Ion R85 and lots of other modern appliances, the S5 announces what it's going to do in easy-to-understand terminology prompts. The Roborock S5 performed well, but not outstandingly so. On hardwood and carpet, it picked up an average of 96.2% of the Cheerios strewn throughout the test region, which was slightly less than the iRobot Roomba 690 (99.5 percent), the Neato Botvac D7 (99.8) and the Shark Ion R85, that scooped a perfect 100 percent on this evaluation. In 63.8 decibels, the Roborock S5 was noticeably louder than the Shark Ion R85 (59.2). We had the ability to have a conversation with another individual in the area as the vacuum worked around us but raised our voices.
Tumblr media
Security concerns The Roborock S5 is mostly controlled through the Mi Home program (Android and iOS). Linking the robot into the app and to our house wi-fi network took 2 tries, mostly because the directions for pairing the bot to the network were not very apparent. Abstruse instructions quickly became a recurring motif of this S5. The black-and-white pier for the Roborock S5 is slightly taller than the vacuum. A clear plastic mat attaches to the pier, but it's only needed if you plan on using the mop attachment. The main screen shows the most recent place cleaning time and our favourite item of information--staying battery life. Along the bottom are icons for Go, Dock, Clean and Zoned Cleanup. Despite its larger size, the Roborock S5 deftly maneuvered through tight spaces. At 3.8 inches high, the S5 sits straight between the 3.9-inch Botvac D7 and the 3.7-inch Roomba 690. While we do not adore the elevated laser cover in the center, the feature was significantly less obtrusive than the one on the D7, that has a large overhang and penchant for getting stuck under living room seats. We were reluctant to give the S5 free reign to wash if it decided to test and clean our rug, therefore we utilized the spot-cleaning mode, which cleans a 1.5- meter (4.9 ft ) area around wherever the S5 is placed. Turns our hesitations were unfounded. The Roborock S5 produced about as much water on the ground as a wet Swiffer pad. If it had cleaned as well as a Swiffer does. We were enthused about zone cleaning since it is a great way to perform a cleaning of a hall or kitchen. From the main screen on the program, you can draw boxes across the map areas you want vacuumed. Contrary to the iRobot Roomba i7+ and also the Neato Botvac D7, you can't save or title the zones, which means you have to redraw the place each time you want to wash them. Adding to the confusion is an Edit Map button on the screen that allows you draw on barrier tape and no-go zones. Setup and program  Design If you are adding a robot vacuum cleaner you want it to look if it's docked in your living space. The Roborock S5 eschews the black-and-grey colour scheme embraced by other vacuums for white, with silver trim around the rim. The Roborock S5 may also be controlled via Amazon Alexa and Google Home. But don't expect to get some complex features using Alexa; the choices are On and Off, which prompts to bot to return to its base. Google Assistant adds"Return to Dock," which sends the robot home, as opposed to Stop, which divides the vacuum in its paths. Flip the Roborock S5 above and you're going to discover two black rubber wheels on either side, a multi-directional wheel in front, and a three-spoke side brush to the left. Between the black wheels is the mix rubber and bristle roller brush. Though similar to the brush on the Eufy Robovac 30c, the S5's roller brush remained remarkably free of hair and fuzz. We were impressed with how lightly the Roborock S5 approached walls and barriers. The bumper on the Roomba 690 seemed to announce that it hit something with clunk; the S5 was more polite. The robot slows its own approach and its own side brush before gingerly approaching an obstruction . The S5 pushed on seats and dog bowls across the floor over the Shark Ion R85 and also the Neato Botvac D7. It wasn't harmful, but I would not leave a fragile vase on a plant stand around through a cleaning.

Tagged by: @matuk-art and @kakakuroo, that’s sweet of you guys, really. Thanks! In no particular order, hm:
1. Close ups, S1 vs. S2 (Art gifs)  I just did this all layer by layer and it took me ages and ages to do seven siblings, but it turned out close to what I had in mind, if a little rough. I can see a bunch of mistakes, but overall, I think they came out well enough. :>
2. Five + Axe (Fanart) I only started drawing, and on a tablet, for the first time since joining TUA fandom. This was one of my earliest attempts just a couple months ago. I still like it! But I have a lot of room for improvement. I wish I had more time to practise.
3. Harlan (Art gifs) Now that I’m a couple months into giffing again, some of my muscle memories were returning when I made this exactly one month ago today. Still has some mistakes but especially considering how PS was crashing every hour, and corrupting my layers, I’m pretty happy with how a lot of my animations came out.
4. Aphonia (One-shot) I don’t write very often, another one of those very old, ingrained fandom hobbies I’ve picked up over the years but very rarely indulge in my adulthood. I do enjoy it, when I can actually finish something, and I wrote this with my friend in mind, so I put extra love (and pain) into it. I really love Luther, I just do, and the tragedy of his story.
5. Klaus, Luther (& Ben) + Saving Eachother (Gifset) Another gifset because that’s what I do, for some reason, a lot. Like it’s my job, but I’m still very broke, definitely unpaid, and yet it makes me a lot happier than schoolwork... anyways, I enjoy how the colours turned out in this quite a bit, but moreover, Luther and Klaus give me a lot of feelings, and Ben too. They love eachother, guys, so much. I wanted to pay homage to that.
I am absolutely *blessed* to be friends/acquaintances/mutuals/friendly neighbours with a ton of amazing, incredible artists and fandom creators. I’m sure no matter who I choose you’ve probably been tagged already!
@anglophile-rin @chikinan @imrights @mokolat @taakotuesday69 @fivesmargarita @disco-tea (metas definitely count as work too!) @albaharu @vareapix @glitchinthedark @dykefive @kneworder @electric016 ... I could go on!

BOOK OF JOB - From The Douay-Rheims Bible - Latin Vulgate
Chapter 10
The Book of Job shows how human affairs are ruled by Divine Providence using probable arguments.
"Although you hide these things in your heart, I know that you still remember everything." - (Job speaking to God)
***
INTRODUCTION.
This Book takes its name from the holy man, of whom it treats; who, according to the more probable opinion, was of the race of Esau, and the same as Jobab, king of Edom, mentioned Gen. xxxvi. 33. It is uncertain who was the writer of it. Some attribute it to Job himself; others to Moses, or some one of the prophets. In the Hebrew it is written in verse, from the beginning of the third chapter to the forty-second chapter. Ch. --- The beginning and conclusion are historical, and in prose. Some have divided this work into a kind of tragedy, the first act extending to C. xv., the second to C. xxii., the third to C. xxxviii., where God appears, and the plot is unfolded. They suppose that the sentiments of the speakers are expressed, though not their own words. This may be very probable: but the opinion of those who look upon the work as a mere allegory, must be rejected with horror. The sacred writers speak of Job as of a personage who had really existed, (C.) and set the most noble pattern of virtue, and particularly of patience. Tob. ii. 12. Ezec. xiv. 14. Jam. v. 11. Philo and Josephus pass over this history, as they do those of Tobias, Judith, &c. H. --- The time when Job lived is not clearly ascertained. Some have supposed (C.) that he was a contemporary with Esther; (D. Thalmud) on which supposition, the work is here placed in its chronological order. But Job more probably live during the period when the Hebrews groaned under the Egyptian bondage, (H.) or sojourned in the wilderness. Num. xiv. 9. The Syrians place the book at the head of the Scriptures. C. --- Its situation has often varied, and is of no great importance. The subject which is here treated, is of far more; as it is intended to shew that the wicked sometimes prosper, while the good are afflicted. H. --- This had seldom been witnessed before the days of Abraham: but as God had now selected his family to be witnesses and guardians of religion, a new order of things was beginning to appear. This greatly perplexed Job himself; who, therefore, confesses that he had not sufficiently understood the ways of God, till he had deigned to explain them in the parable of the two great beasts. C. xlii. 3. We cannot condemn the sentiments expressed by Job, since God has declared that they were right, (ib. v. 8) and reprimands Elihu, (C. xxxviii. 2.) and the other three friends of Job, for maintaining a false opinion, though, from the history of past times, they had judge it to be true. This remark may excupate them from the stain of wilful lying, and vain declamation. Houbigant. --- However, as they assert what was false, their words of themselves are of no authority; and they are even considered as the forerunners of heretics. S. Greg. S. Aug. &c. T. --- Job refutes them by sound logic. S. Jerom. --- We may discover in this book the sum of Christian morality, (W.) for which purpose it has been chiefly explained by S. Gregory. The style is very poetical, (H.) though at the same time simple, like that of Moses. D. --- It is interspersed with many Arabic and Chaldaic idioms; (S. Jer.) whence some have concluded, that it was written originally by Job and his friends (H.) in Arabic, and translated into Heb. by Moses, for the consolation of his brethren. W. --- The Heb. text is in many places incorrect; (Houbig.) and the Sept. seem to have omitted several verses. Orig. --- S. Jerom says almost eight hundred, (C.) each consisting of about six words. H. --- Shultens, in 1747, expressed his dissatisfaction with the labours of all preceding commentators. To explain this book may not therefore be an easy task: but we must be as short as possible. HAYDOCK CATHOLIC BIBLE COMMENTARY
Chapter 10
Job lements his afflictions and begs to be delivered.
[1] My soul is weary of my life, I will let go my speech against myself, I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
Taedet animam meam vitae meae; dimittam adversum me eloquium meum, loquar in amaritudine animae meae.
[2] I will say to God: Do not condemn me: tell me why thou judgest me so.
Dicam Deo : Noli me condemnare; indica mihi cur me ita judices.
[3] Doth it seem good to thee that thou shouldst calumniate me, and oppress me, the work of thy own hands, and help the counsel of the wicked?
Numquid bonum tibi videtur, si calumnieris me, et opprimas me opus manuum tuarum, et consilium impiorum adjuves?
[4] Hast thou eyes of flesh: or, shalt thou see as man seeth?
Numquid oculi carnei tibi sunt? aut sicut videt homo, et tu videbis?
[5] Are thy days as the days of man, and are thy years as the times of men:
Numquid sicut dies hominis dies tui, et anni tui sicut humana sunt tempora,
[6] That thou shouldst inquire after my iniquity, and search after my sin?
ut quaeras iniquitatem meam, et peccatum meum scruteris,
[7] And shouldst know that I have done no wicked thing, whereas there is no man that can deliver out of thy hand.
et scias quia nihil impium fecerim, cum sit nemo qui de manu tua possit eruere?
[8] Thy hands have made me, and fashioned me wholly round about, and dost thou thus cast me down headlong on a sudden?
Manus tuae fecerunt me, et plasmaverunt me totum in circuitu; et sic repente praecipitas me?
[9] Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay, and thou wilt bring me into dust again.
Memento, quaeso, quod sicut lutum feceris me, et in pulverem reduces me.
[10] Hast thou not milked me as milk, and curdled me like cheese?
Nonne sicut lac mulsisti me, et sicut caseum me coagulasti?
[11] Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh: thou hast put me together with bones and sinews:
Pelle et carnibus vestisti me; ossibus et nervis compegisti me.
[12] Thou hast granted me life and mercy, and thy visitation hath preserved my spirit.
Vitam et misericordiam tribuisti mihi, et visitatio tua custodivit spiritum meum.
[13] Although thou conceal these things in thy heart, yet I know that thou rememberest all things.
Licet haec celes in corde tuo, tamen scio quia universorum memineris.
[14] If I have sinned and thou hast spared me for an hour: why dost thou not suffer me to be clean from my iniquity?
Si peccavi, et ad horam pepercisti mihi, cur ab iniquitate mea mundum me esse non pateris?
[15] And if I be wicked, woe unto me: and if just, I shall not lift up my head, being filled with affliction and misery.
Et si impius fuero, vae mihi est; et si justus, non levabo caput, saturatus afflictione et miseria.
[16] And for pride thou wilt take me as a lioness, and returning thou tormentest me wonderfully.
Et propter superbiam quasi leaenam capies me, reversusque mirabiliter me crucias.
[17] Thou renewest thy witnesses against me, and multipliest thy wrath upon me, and pains war against me.
Instauras testes tuos contra me, et multiplicas iram tuam adversum me, et poenae militant in me.
[18] Why didst thou bring me forth out of the womb: O that I had been consumed that eye might not see me!
Quare de vulva eduxisti me? qui utinam consumptus essem, ne oculus me videret!
[19] I should have been as if I had not been, carried from the womb to the grave.
Fuissem quasi non essem, de utero translatus ad tumulum.
[20] Shall not the fewness of my days be ended shortly? suffer me, therefore, that I may lament my sorrow a little:
Numquid non paucitas dierum meorum finietur brevi? Dimitte ergo me, ut plangam paululum dolorem meum;
[21] Before I go, and return no more, to a land that is dark and covered with the mist of death:
antequam vadam, et non revertar, ad terram tenebrosam, et opertam mortis caligine :
[22] A land of misery and darkness, where the shadow of death, and no order, but everlasting horror dwelleth.
terram miseriae et tenebrarum, ubi umbra mortis et nullus ordo : sed sempiternus horror inhabitat.
Commentary:
Ver. 1. Life. Job had intimated a fear to proceed any farther. C. --- But perceiving that he had not convinced his friends, he continues his discourse (H.) in still stronger terms, yet so as to acknowledge the justice of God. C. --- Speech against. Heb. "complaint upon, (H.) or respecting myself," I will deplore my misfortunes, (C.) or I will say no more about them. M.
Ver. 2. Judgest. Heb. "contendest with me," as with an enemy? Is it to punish some fault, or only to make thy grace shine forth? C.
Ver. 3. Calumniate permissively, by treating me in such a manner, that others lay false crimes to my charge. Heb. "oppress and despise the work." --- Wicked, who are ready enough (H.) to assert that virtue is useless, (C.) and that God mindeth not human affairs. My affliction will confirm them in their false notion, (H.) and my friends will triumph as if their arguments were well founded. The devil will also exult. C. --- He knew that God could not be guilty of calumny, and inquireth why he is afflicted. W.
Ver. 4. Seeth, judging only of the exterior. T. v. 6.
Ver. 5. Days, sometimes denote judgments. 1 Cor. iv. 3. Is God liable to change, like men, or does he stand in need of time to examine them, or fear lest they should escape? C. --- Is it necessary for him to prove his friends, to know their real dispositions? Sanctius.
Ver. 7. Shouldst. Heb. and Sept. "Thou knowest that...and there," &c. H. --- It would be vain for me to appeal to any other. C.
Ver. 8. Sudden, like a potter's vessel? Job was reduced to misery all at once. C. --- He acknowledges that God may destroy him as his creature; but that character encourages him to hope for mercy, grace, and glory. W.
Ver. 10. Milked. Heb. "poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?" H. --- See Wisd. vii. 1. The ancients explained our origin by the comparison of milk curdled, or cheese; (Arist. i. 10. Pliny vii. 15.) which the moderns have explained on more plausible principles. C. --- Yet still we may acknowledge our ignorance with the mother of Machabees. 2 Mac. vii. 22.
Ver. 12. Thy fatherly visitation (H.) but still preserved my life. C.
Ver. 13. Rememberest. Sept. "canst do all things." Heb. "this is with thee." H. --- I am convinced that thou still regardest me with affection, though it would appear as if thou hadst forgotten me. C.
Ver. 14. Iniquity? Punishing me for the sins which seemed to be pardoned. C. --- Heb. "If I sin, then thou makest me, and wilt not suffer; (H.) or if thou hast not pardoned my iniquity: (15) And," &c. C.
Ver. 15. Woe. Thou wilt not suffer me to pass unpunished. C. --- Head. I will adore in silence. C. ix. 15. 31. Ven. Bede. C.
Ver. 16. Pride. If I give way to pride, thou wilt pull me down, though I were as fierce and strong as a lioness. Heb. "for it (affliction) increaseth. Thou huntest me." Prot. --- Returning. Heb. and Sept. "again." H.
Ver. 17. Witnesses, afflictions; (M.) "wounds." Pagnin. T.
Ver. 20. Lament. Heb. "take comfort," (H.) or breath. C. --- Repentance is always necessary, but more particularly at the hour of death. W.
Ver. 21. Death, to the grave, or to hell, (C.) if my sins deserve it. H.
Ver. 22. Horror. At death all distinction of ranks is at an end. T. - Heb. "where the light is as darkness." Prot. Sept. "To the land of eternal darkness, where there is no sound, nor life of mortals to see." H.
