forgive me if I'm a little late to this? but let me get this straight:
Neil Gaiman asks for fans coming to his events to please mask for everyone's safety
when asked why he isn't mandating them he says he tried but the venues won't allow it
many people don't listen, or don't see the ask bc it isn't official from the venue, and show up maskless
Neil now has COVID (for a second time, which means his risk of complications is higher) along with anyone else who got infected at that event
I just. y'all. please.
If you are going to a fan event, especially a big one like a con where there will be tons of people, you need to be wearing a mask right now. Actors and other people who work in entertainment who meet with many people and frequent large gatherings or are part of con staff for instance are at significant risk of COVID from the sheer amount they are being exposed to, not only from acute infection but cumulative damage from multiple infections or long COVID and post COVID complications. COVID levels are nearly as high as they were in the first wave in 2020 and being vaccinated does not guarantee u cannot catch and/or transmit it(this study from this year says it's around 1 in five). Please be excellent to each other and do your best to not get your faves, their staff, or other fans sick.
why and how masks work and what types are the safest (you can get good masks in all sorts of colors now btw if u want to match ur cosplay or stuff, ProjectN95 is a good source, and Jelli has clear masks if u want to have ur face visible)
I wish Neil a speedy and full recovery, and I hope more people listen to him and others trying to keep fans and creators and staff safe right now ❤️

kaiser, I've been low-key worried about you as you crawl your way out of the Covid Hole. How are you doing? Hopefully recovering some energy? Sending you good healing vibes from afar!
Ahh, I hope you don't mind that I answer this one publicly. First of all, aww, that is very sweet, thank you 🥺💖 I'm not gonna lie, I still struggle quite a bit with breathing and concentration, but I'm getting there! (That I'm exhausted all the time is a given, but it's always been like thay.) I'm currently working out to get my lungs back to where they should be, but I'm also currently teaching and studying and working and moving and traveling for work and- *deflates*
I miss drawing a lot and I feel really restless since I stopped. Hopefully I'll come back to it by next month - once S3 is here I'm definitely back in my clown makeup 🙈🤡

i think dean’s fear of flying isn’t so much rooted in a fear of heights (like that might be part of it) but i think the root of it is a fear of not having control over the situation and not having the ability to escape. like, with a plane he’s at the mercy of the pilot, he has to trust that the pilot will get him safely to his destination, he has no control over the situation and if things go sideways he can’t very easily escape the situation when he’s thousands of feet up in the air. i feel like he’d feel similarly about any form of public / mass transit. like he’d feel anxious and claustrophobic on trains or buses but at least those he could jump out of them if he needed to. this is why he loves driving so much, because he’s always in control, and if something happens it’ll be on him (he totally ignores the fact that there are other drivers on the road that could crash into him because even if that happened he’d still somehow make it his fault, obvs). but yeah, the point stands, he needs to at least feel like he’s in control of the situation, and planes are the ultimate form of transportation that requires you to give up all control and put your trust in someone else and yeah, dean’s not gonna do that

Thoughts on halloween and spooky season in general?
i’m not super big on halloween tbh, it’s not really big in australia in general. like while it’s not for me, i can appreciate the spooky vibe people go for, but also spooky season goes hand in hand with autumn while it’s spring here lol
however my other internet “identity” is ghost_socks and i love cute little ghosts!
thanks for the ask!!!

well, how about this, while I wait for the roofers to come fix the mess they made of my ceiling. just so I can feel like I'm doing something productive.
since my savings are now significantly smaller than they were a week and a half ago, I guess now's a good enough time as any to start talking about some half-decided plans I have for this upcoming story I've been writing, and perhaps other original stories as well if this goes well.
while I'm still going to be posting the bulk of my work on AO3 like I usually do, I think I'm also going to be launching a patreon!
here's the soft plan, though I'm still working out details:
serialize this story at a chapter each week, which will probably take a few months overall.
chapters will be posted to AO3 the same day every week, and a week early on patreon.
extra material will also be on patreon, from author commentary to essays on historical/mythological background that's going into the story to extra fics that will be a few thousand words each. (or... so.)
the main story will fully stand alone. extra scenes will be like... stuff happening from other POVs offscreen, flashbacks, a sappy post-story fic, etc.
after the story is fully done being posted, an ebook version of the story will be made available to patrons with thanks, etc. to everyone who supported the project.
??? repeat?? m/m minotaur story this time, f/f witch who owns a familiar animal shelter story next time. lmao
part of me is still like "no, no one will pay money to support your writing" but like. I've seen worse writers than me make money, I guess, so why not try? it's not like it can hurt, and it can be fun to experiment with new methods of distribution sometimes.
I'll probably post a survey once I've finished the rough draft of the fic so I can plan out the finer details, but that's my basic plan. I want to write the whole fic and edit it before I start posting anything, and at the rate I'm going... I'm aiming for the beginning of May? it's at about 70k rn, and I'm thinking it probably has about 10-20k to go.
so I guess we'll see!!!
in the meantime, if you are a person who is interested in any of this and you have feedback about the project, feel free to lmk! anon or logged in, either is fine. lemme know if there are any patreon perks you'd like to see or if you have ideas about pricing/tiers/etc.
I'm very new to this so I'm open to ideas and opinions!
fingers crossed. lmao
