spellcrafting tipz for people who dont know how to make spells
this is just a basic basic general explanation because when i started and everyone was like "put ur ingredients in the jar" id be like "but why is it in a jar??? why are we sealing it?????? how come sometimes the spell is in Not A Jar??????"
so basically from my understanding it is symbolic. you probably know how an herb symbolises a certain property. that extends to what the herb is in. where the herb is placed. etc.
and god i wish when people preach learning herb and color correspondences, they also added to learn correspondences to things like jars, candles, even directions and other common spell ingredients.
but heres a tip that you can apply to any spells you make on your own, especially if you are good with tarot. so we know with tarot's suits, air corresponds to intellect and wisdom, water to intuition and emotions, fire to passion and creativity, and earth to money and the physical realm in general. also fire is usually associated with quickness and earth with slower work. (it also means long hard work to me)
so to come up with a base of a spell idea, you can combine some herbs with a certain element. so if you wanted some peace in your physical life, maybe you could use earth and lavender together. you could bury lavender near your home to symbolise peace in your house. or combine lavender and soil in a small jar/container to carry grounded and long lasting peace with you.
what if you wanted emotional peace? lavender in a bowl of water. maybe you could wash your face or hair with it to symbolise mental peace (for calming things like overthinking) or drink lavender tea for bodily peace (for calming things like physical tenseness).
this is how you can layered spells, so instead of putting this herb for peace, this other herb for also peace, your spell becomes this herb for peace, this herb for how fast i want it, this other ingredient for where i want it, this other one for what i want it to manifest etc etc
and you also dont need to just use things you can find verified correspondences for. witches x years ago did not know what a beyblade was. there are no sources for how to use a beyblade in a spell. so use your brain and personal experience. beyblades are fast, armoured, and have a short burst of energy before they fall over. maybe you need a quick push or burst of inspiration. get a beyblade, make it represent you in some way (you could mark it with sharpie, put a sticker on it, maybe just name it after yourself, etc) clear its path and let it rip. maybe let it spin on your desk for academic inspiration, on the kitchen counter to inspire you to make dinner, or in a room you need to clean to put you in a cleaning frenzy for a minute.
it works kind of like analogies. i also feel that adding specificity in how you conduct your working could create less of a need to basically play word chess with the universe to get the exact results you want when you create chants and such. and this is important to me because i hate speaking. who says the universe needs to speak a human language with me. we will simply communicate in vibes and symbolism.

Do you practice candle magic, or do you just use candles in your magic? I've always been captivated by the power of candle magic. 🕯️✨ The way the flame dances and flickers, carrying intentions out into the universe, is truly mesmerizing. It is so simple too! Carve a #sigil, word or phrase representing your intention into a candle and light it. Before lighting the candle, put all your energy and visualize your intention coming to fruition and imbue it into your candle. Once the candle has burned down completely, you can divine the results of the spell from the remnants. What's your favorite way of using candle magic spells or #rituals? Share with me in the comments below!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #candlemagic #witchcraft #spells #intentionsetting #witchtip #beginnerwitch #candlespell #divination #witchesofinstagram #witchy #witchyvibes #witchywoman #spellwork #witchcraftspells https://www.instagram.com/p/CpdErJINpqz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Casting A Circle ⭐️
Howdy! Your friendly neighborhood witch here, back with another beginner witch post! You may or may not have heard of the term “casting a circle”- what this means is to basically create a barrier to temporarily protect yourself from negative/unwanted energy. This is pretty similar to other types of protection, so take a look at my protection post if you’re interested :))
Tumblr media
You may want to cast a circle for a number of reasons, but I mainly think of casting a circle as temporary! You may want to do this to protect yourself and your space while you are doing spell-work, while you’re focusing on yourself (ex: grounding, meditation, etc), divination, the list is endless. While you CAN cast a circle whenever you feel the need, you don’t NEED to cast a circle in order to do something ie: cast a spell, commune with your deities, etc.
How To Prepare
There are many ways to cast a circle, so take this with a grain of salt. Witchcraft is all up to interpretation.
Find the area that you want to cast your circle
CLEAN
Both physically and metaphysically...you want your space clean. If you need help thinking about how to spiritually clean your space, head on over to my cleansing post
Set Up
Get everything you are gonna want after you cast your circle, and put it in the center of the “circle”
You don’t wanna leave the circle after you cast it so make sure to grab any supplies for spells, divination, etc- just whatever you plan on doing while you have your circle cast
Now it’s time to actually cast the circle! There are many ways to do this, so I’m gonna outline a few.
The Elements
You can cast a circle by invoking the elements and placing them at the four cardinal directions (Earth = North, Air = East, Fire = South, Water = West)
For fire 🔥: You can use whatever candles you would like, or electric candles if live in a dorm/can’t have an open flame (if you’re casting this circle outside, PLEASE be aware of any burn bans in your area!). If you’re doing a spell, you can even choose a candle with a certain color correspondence to the spell you’re doing!
For water 💧: I recommend using some sort of charged water, ie: sun or moon water. I’ve seen some people using diluted essential oils with correlation to whatever they are doing in the circle, so you can be creative with it!
For earth 🌎: You can use quite literally anything that represents the earth here. Crystals, salt, dirt, herbs, anything.
For air 💨: Incense or steam work well. I live in a dorm so I can’t use incense (I also hate the scent so I never use it) SO what I do to get around that is just using my essential oil diffuser...it’s not exactly steam but it gets the job done.
You will be placing these items with intent at their specific spots, and basically that’s all there is to it when casting a circle with the elements
To actually finish creating your circle, start in the East (by your air representation) and walk clockwise completely around the circle. You can do this a few times (don’t get dizzy lol) until you can “envision” a circle
When you’re done and ready to break your circle, do the same as above but walk counterclockwise the same number of times you walked around the circle to create it
Salt
Another method to cast a circle is by using good-old fashioned salt :)
Use salt (or something similar, eggshells, herbs, etc) to create a circle, clockwise. When you are creating this physical circle, imagine the metaphysical properties of the circle (protection, safety, etc)
When you’re done, break the circle physically, and then clean and dispose of your salt
Use A Cord
Similar to the salt method, you can use a cord/rope/string or something similar to create a large circle, and give it a good knot tying the two ends together. Whenever you do this, be sure to envision the circle protecting you and serving its intended purpose.
DO A COMBO
Similar to both methods above, you can also just make a circle out of whatever floats your boat. Rocks, leaves, branches, dirt, WHATEVER as long as it’s practical, safe, and you are putting intention behind your casting.
I usually do this (i like the rocks) and then I invoke the elements by putting their item of representation in their respective places and INVOKING THEM
“I call upon the elements of the East, guardians of the wind, protect this circle! I call upon the elements of the South, guardians of fire, protect this circle! I call upon the elements of the West, guardians of water, protect this circle! I call upon the elements of the North, guardians of the earth, protect this circle!”
Doesn't have to be that exact phrasing but something along those lines
I then like to walk around the circle and be like “yo, the circle is created”
If you’re invoking guardians/elements/etc, be sure to thank them for their protection while you are breaking your circle.
After I break the circle i am like “yo, the circle is broken” and then go about my merry day.
I hope this helped you get a grasp on casting a circle! Again, there are many ways to do this so be sure to check out these other resources to see what fits your practice best!

Merry Meet!
So, I am climbing up on my soapbox today. I see it asked all the time: "where do I start?"
And every answer seems the same: Research!
Great! But what does that mean? How and where do I research?? ... Starting out in The Craft is both easy and extremely challenging. Prior to the internet, research meant knowing or hoping to randomly meet other Practioners who could guide you. Or, if you were brave, checking a local library. At that point, starting was hard because getting access to information was hard.
Now we have the internet. And the problem exists in reverse. There is now SO much info available that it can be overwhelming at times. It certainly was for my nerodivergent brain. So I have typed up a "brief" summary of my process so that mayhap it will help others::
Research research research! There is so much out there and it can be so overwhelming. How i personally suggest you start? First, accept that you dont need fancy tools and ingredients to be a successful Witch You are enough as you are.
From a research aspect:
1. Look up the major types of spell work. (Candle, Kitchen, Jar, Offering, Sigils, Simmer Pots, Intention Spells, Oils, Sachets, Sprays, etc). This will give you an idea just how broad actual Craft and spellwork can be. Also, it will strike some examples of what to research and give you an idea what you will be most interested in. For example, I primarily love jar spells, sigils, and simmer pots.
2. Make a list of a couple types of spells or works that interest you. Like healing, self love, cord cuttings, etc. This will give you a list to work of to then build your research plan/database.
PLEASE NOTE, I PERSONALLY RECCOMEND THAT YOU DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY OF THESE SPELLS YET. I AM SUGGESTING YOU MAP THIS ALL OUT SO YOU HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE BREADTH OF THE CRAFT. It will also help you decide what kind of Crafter you will likely be. Personally, I am eclectic, and grey with very white leanings. I am not actually Wiccan, though the Wiccan aspect plays a huge role in my Craft.
Huge massive tip in looking stuff up? Using google or your fav search engine, type "metaphysical properties of____" or "magickal/magical correspondences of____" or simply "_____ Correspondences" and you can either read the articles and links or simply look through the images section. Though not everything will have extensive info available.
3. Pick a random spell. Anything. Now RESEARCH what doing that spell would entail. This will give you an idea of what kinds of things to research and where you want to put your emphasis.
For example, I wanted to do an anti anxiety spell. So I researched that. Discovered I have a flair for sigils. Then quickly realized I am an AVID Jar spell kinda gal 😅😁 So I then went searching for jar spells for  anti anxiety to see what would be required. Then realized how many different ways there are to do one. Which lead me to research crystals and herbs to find what ingredients to use for what. Which lead to me making my own comprehensive hard physical copy (alphabetical, might I add) of all the herbs and plants I could find and their many uses. Did the same with crystals. Then candles and their color meanings. Which lead to color magick research.
(..... It has now been 3 years since I went looking for that anti anxiety spell and I haven't performed it yet. I HAVE found so much peace within myself as I have settled into my Craft by learning. Because remember, witchcraft is NOT always JUST about performing spells. Anyway... back on topic)
I quickly realized how much info there was out there to learn and how to go about it.
Id also research the sabbats and all they entail.
Research deities for future knowledge. Though I suggest waiting on actual deity work until you are further down your path  but that is a personal preference.
Research cleansing types and methods.
At the end of the day, your path and your Craft is your own. Follow your intuition and instincts. Follow your heart and soul. And do as much as you can to research something before casting. Google is your friend. Also, i have a list of books. If you want it, just as a place to start, let me know :)
Once you start spell craft, I found it easiest to start with Sigils, once I got the hang of those, I moved on to simmer pots and candle magick (easiest ingredients to get ahold of for me). After getting comfortable with those, I moved on to Offering Spells. Then Jar Spells. I have more or less stopped there in my actual spell progression, as I have found I excel at and greatly enjoy Jar Spells. I have also ventured into oil rollers, sprays, sachets, etc. And I occasionally do rituals, like cord cuttings or ritual baths, but have not overly ventured in those directions. As such, I research as needed for those types of spells.
Shadow work and observing the Sabbats were also a huge learning opportunity for me.
People always say "do your shadow work" and it took me forever to realize they mean working on yourself. Facing your inner demons. Accepting your faults and working to correct those you can. Accepting yourself for who you are and learning to love yourself and be happy with who you are.
Researching the Sabbats and how the many cultures celebrate and honor them gave me another way to research and learn and then work that new knowledge into my craft. People jump over a fire during Beltane. Why? There is a good research topic for you. Yellow flowers, why are they important in the spring? Why are apples associated with fertility. What kinds of activities are engaged in for Samhain? Why?
And along the way of these activities and researching, you will find yourself learning things that can help you elsewhere. Like learning about the color green and its importance at Beltane will later help you in health and fertility spells.
I think I started actually performing spells about 1/4 of my way through all this research. Once I had a good enough basis to understand the materials I was working with and knew my energy and magic enough to feel comfortable and confident in my workings.
I still perform lots of research regularly, but have reached a comfort zone in my Craft where I don't do big things every day, or even every week, but I work my craft in in little ways, sometimes even unconsciously. I have found I am happy, comfortable, confident and at peace with my self and the life I live. And a stable and reliable Craft is a great addition to that peace, if not outright the building blocks for it in my case.
My inbox is open if anyone has questions. Wants to chat. Wants a new witchy friend. Etc. As a Polyamorous, Pansexual, Christian Druidic Mother and Wife who is 420 friendly...... I am an open book with nothing to hide and virtually no judgement left in my brain. I don't care who you are. Do no harm, take no shit and we will be a-okay :)
Merry Part and Blessed Be

Ok so first posts are always intros, or maybe that’s just like a…Tinder thing but we’re gonna roll with this shit.
Yo, my name is Sinner, but just call me Sin. Seems to get less backlash in person lmao. I’m 18 years old, born in the season of spooks, goofs and costumed mistakes (October).
I’m also part of the LGBTQIA+ community seeing as I’m Non-Binary and use they/them pronouns (AMAB for people who care for some reason) and Omnisexual (think pansexual but still has preferences) and continuing to discover my identity with my partner.
I'm on Tumblr mainly to learn more about paganism, occultism, witchcraft, tarot, and all sorts of stuff like that. I've always been interested in it but I've never had the opportunity to learn much thanks to just life being hell and my family not at all into witchcraft or the likes, in fact extremely opposed.
Anyway to anyone who reads this, I'll try and use Tumblr as like a journey blog as I further my knowledge! If anyone has any recommendations for an EXTREMELY uneducated and just starting out witch please let me know! Hope you all have a great day!

Last Sunday, I posted a reel with some basics on scrying using an obsidian mirror. 🧿🌌 Because repetition is the mother of wisdom, here are some more in-depth tips to go with it: 1. The right lighting: Make sure the lighting in your scrying space is dim but not too dark. Candlelight 🕯️ or a dim lamp can provide the right level of illumination. 2. Begin with a clear mind: Take a few deep breaths and try to clear your mind of any distractions or worries. This will help you focus. 3. Placement of the mirror: Place the obsidian mirror in front of you at a comfortable distance. You can hold it up to your face or place it on a stand. 4. Focus on the surface: Gaze into the surface of the mirror without focusing on any one point. I call this the soft gaze. you can also try to focus your gaze slightly behind the surface. Allow your eyes to relax and your mind to wander. Blink as needed. 5. Observe any shapes or patterns: You may begin to see shapes or patterns in the mirror or in your mind 🧿, such as clouds, colors, or images. Observe them without trying to interpret them. 6. Practice regularly: Like any other skill, scrying takes practice. Try to make it a regular part of your practice. With practice, you may develop a stronger connection with the mirror and gain more insight from your scrying sessions. 🔮💫 7. Cleanse the mirror: It's important to cleanse your obsidian mirror regularly to remove any negative energy or residue that may have accumulated. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #scrying #obsidianmirror #magictips #spiritualawakening #divination #crystalmagic #magicalpractice #intuition #mysticism #witchcraft #occult #witchesofinstagram #witchy #witchyvibes #magick #witchcraftspells #beginnerwitch https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpkip7ztlDN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

After years of research, speaking to others about the religion, and joining in on a few outings with others that follow it, I’ve officially found my path in life. Norse Pagan. Everything about this religion calls me and I have always loved the mythology of Norse Gods and it pains me that it took me years (10 to be exact) of abuse in the Christian faith because that’s what my blood family followed growing up. And then years of research in the Pagan realm to decide which branch I fell into. Today I received my Mjölnir that I ordered from a special shop on Etsy that specializes in personalized jewelry. I decided to wear it to work and it would underneath my zipper fleece. It sticks out a little, no big deal. Well it wasn’t one until a customer saw it and told me off for wearing it and telling me it’s devil work, and against his religion. Most do not know what the Mjölnir is, so here is a small article about it so you can educate yourself on the religion. I am still new to this path myself, so any tips or any educational material that other Norse pagans recommend, please share! https://www.alehorn.com/blogs/alehorn-viking-blog/viking-symbolism-mjolnir https://www.routesnorth.com/language-and-culture/norse-paganism/ • • • #mjolnir #norsepagan #pagan #paganwitch #beginnerwitch https://www.instagram.com/p/Cna5HAauFq2/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
