I stumbled on this ceramic spaceship with two dogs, found out they survived a spaceflight, and went !!!!!! THIS IS FOR LU! LAIKA IS HER GOOD GIRL! LAIKA'S STORY WAS NOT THE END! rotting dogs-- chernobyl puppies-- space dogs-- things we love that are doomed to die always, things which we preemptively mourn-- do not always die tragically and unloved! Strelka's grandpuppies are still alive even today!!! she sits next to her friend Belka even in death!!! and they are remembered with love!!!

✮HAPPY COSMONAUTICS DAY!✮

63 years ago, on April 12th, Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin was the first human to journey into outer space abroad the crewed spaceflight Vostok-1

Getting to that point wasn't easy, though, and before Yuri was able to leave Earth many people and animals put in colossal effort to make that flight possible

Konstantin Tsiolkovsky and Sergei Korolyov were the founders of cosmonautics and made every device and vehicle launched into space a reality. In 1957 on November 3rd Laika became the first dog(and living being in general) in space, launched there in artificial satellite Sputnik-2. She died 3 hours after the takeoff, but still paved the way for everyone who traveled into outer space afterwards. In 1960 on August 19th Belka and Strelka were the next dogs to leave our planet and the first ones to make it back alive, bringing humanity even closer to traversing cosmos as well

Space is still as mysterious and distant as ever, but even the smallest baby steps towards exploring it wouldn't be possible without the contribution of such strong, brave and intelligent creatures

Belka (left) and Strelka (right), two dogs that were aboard Korabl-Sputnik 2 (aka Sputnik 5). Along with several mice and rats, they were the first animals to go into orbit and return alive. They spent one day in space, with Korabl-Sputnik 2 launching on August 19th, 1960, and landing on August 20th, 1960. One of Strelka's puppies, Pushinka, would later be gifted to the Kennedys.

Fully anthro version of the astronaut/cosmonaut character Strelka, as she appears in my anthro universe. She is originally from the Russian cartoon show "Belka i Strelka: Tayna Kosmosa". The show is based in the near future of the real world, on a lunar base; in my anthro world & my fics the world is different (in both history and geography, because an anthro/furry world would not have had the same history & all as ours). The flag on her astronaut/cosmonaut crew suit is of the fictional country Sovikotia she is from in my world.
