I know mine isn't a political blog but I can’t stay silent in front of what's happening in Iran.
I saw videos of many people cutting their hair in protest, women burning their hijabs and, what I took more pride in seeing, Iranian people intonating the Italian song "Bella Ciao" as a sign of protest.
Bella Ciao is the most famous resistance song of my country, it was born during WWII and it was sung by Italian partisans against the fascist dictatorship.
I hate it when I see remixes of this song, people dancing on it on TikTok for some stupid trends but THIS, this is important. This is the purpose of this song. RESISTANCE.
Bella Ciao is for everybody who is fighting around the world.
people wearing respirators? so fuckin cool and hot
people wearing respirators to peace parades? mmm okay baby tell me more let's see how cool you are I bet there's a lot you're curious about
people wearing respirators doing direct action? please I might black out tell me more let them know I love them, we are the same person, we share the same fight and the same love oh my gods yes we're gonna shake the gates of hell together
I love, love the way fantasy and sci-fi recently have a very strong theme of the power of stories and song to fight back against the oppressor, to inspire resistance and rebellion. Damn right! The rich and powerful have always assumed music and art and literature belonged to them, but there’s a very strong tradition of the poor and low born and oppressed using music and stories to defy their oppressors and rise up against them.
Absolutely irritated by the way the song "Bella ciao" has been remixed and used multiple times as a base for dumb tiktok dances. I was already irritated enough when I found out that it had been improperly used in the Netflix show La casa de papel, but this is just ridiculous.
It's not just disrespectful, it's also plain stupid. Because I hate to see so many people (rightfully) defending their own culture, calling out all the people who make cultural appropriation and insulting their culture. But as soon as the culture that is being disrespected is not theirs, suddenly it's all "just a joke", "chill", "it's nothing serious".
Well, let me tell you that, it IS serious. This song was sung by Italian partisans during the fascist time in WWII. It's not a happy song, it talks about resistance, about the way young soldiers that wanted nothing but peace were absolutely aware of the fact they were going to die. It's a VERY important piece of Italian history, it's not a song anybody should use to dance.
So please, just STOP using that! It's disrespectful and stupid. I don’t even understand how some people thought it was a good idea to use that song for a tiktok video in the first place. Learn to appreciate and RESPECT other peoples culture.
And don't even get me started on those who romanticise mafia because, oh boy, I have a few things to say. 🇮🇹
“If you want to get away from the traffic and crowds to kick back with the more bohemian populace in The Urbz: Sims in the City, hang a left over to The Foundry. Years ago, artists seeking affordable housing, open studio space, and a lifestyle away from the mainstream metropolis seeped into this deteriorating industrial district and gave it new verve. They converted the abandoned warehouses into lofted art studios, independent galleries, and coffee shops buzzing with shop talk and politics. Visitors are invited to pull up a chair at the local coffee shop or stroll through the galleries with wine-glass in hand.”
