Ben Schneider is living every OC creator’s dream rn

usually whenever one thinks of their original characters, they’ll think of songs, animations, etc—but it’s pretty rare for content to actually make it out of paper. then we have ben schneider of lord huron saying “fuck it” and spawning an intricate universe filled with lovable characters for the hell of it. he could’ve just made cool music but noooo he went above and made a tetralogy of albums dedicated to silly characters and their stories and lore. AND on top of that, he and the band went out of his way to make a movie filled with his silly characters and a 30 minute twins peak-esque advert for vide noir. THATS INSANE?? WHAT?? and for the vide noir movie to actually be really well made is huge, lots of respect to him man, i want to be him one day

You like Lord Huron? Their early work really captures the human terror of loneliness, personifying abandonment as various supernatural events. But when Long Lost came out in 2021, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The titular Long Lost single recontextualizes isolation as self-given power and liberation. Some people don't like the retro Americana sound, but I think the album is fantastic!

Show time

“The Starling Girl,” with music by Lord Huron, opens today, but only on the coasts, as far as I know.

I ran into a neighbor Thursday who is lobbying to get the movie shown at the nearby single-screen Sun Theater in Williamston  - the kind of place where the people who own the theater also sell the tickets, pop the popcorn and run the projector. We’ll see about that.

Lord Huron’s front man, Ben Schneider, wrote the score for the full-length movie, which had its premier at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

Directed by Laurel Parmet, “The Starling Girl” tells the story of 17-year-old Jem Starling (Eliza Scanlen). Raised in a fundamentalist Christian community in Kentucky, she’s torn between her piety and her natural human desires.

Meanwhile, Lord Huron’s “Ace Up My Sleeve,” a song written for the movie, will be released next Friday. Take a listen by clicking on the photo.
