If your Benchmark isn't opening, it's an issue with the executable file, and something not completing properly on either download, or extracting the Zip file. The Benchmark is designed to run and give you scores for your potato computer, I promise.
I actually saved my Benchmark to my external drive, and it still pulls and saves data and runs as it should. Make sure you allowed the download to complete before extracting the zip.
Resolution
Check your Settings; in Display, it may be defaulting your monitor Resolution to something than you might otherwise use if you aren't on standard 1920x1080.
To check your monitor Resolution, minimize everything on your screen and right click anywhere on your Desktop. Go to Display Settings and scroll down to find Resolution and what it's set at.
You can set the Graphic Settings 1 tab to Maximum, or to Import your game settings. Display Settings tab is where you set it to be Windowed, Bordered, or Full Screen, as well as select Resolution to match your monitor in the dropdown (or customize it if needed). I speak on Resolution as some folks in my FC noted it changed how their characters looked.
The Other tab in Settings is where you can change the text output, or even check a box to disable the logo and score; I do this on subsequent plays, once I have my scores at various settings, to get the clean screenshots.
@calico-heart has a post about fixing graphics settings, with screenshots of the settings tab. Basically, change graphics upscaling from AMD to NVIDIA, and/or uncheck Enable Dynamic Resolution. Also check the Framerate Threshold dropdown.
Screenshots
The benchmark auto-saves 5 screens each playthrough. In the Benchmark folder there is a Screenshots folder to find the auto-images taken of your characters.
Character Appearance
If you want to get your current in game appearance, including non-standard hairstyles, make sure to load up the live game, right click and "Save Character Settings."
Then go to Documents/My Games/Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (this is the default in Windows 10 so mileage varies). The file will have the date you last updated their settings and be named FFXIV_CHARA_01.dat (or however many saves you have/made).
Grab those newly updated DAT files for your character(s) and copy them, then in the same base folder, go to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (Benchmark).
Paste the copied DAT files in there, and rename to FFXIV_CHARA_BENCH01.dat (the number doesn't matter, and you may have more).
When running Benchmark Character Creation, use the dropdown menu.
If you do Create a Custom Character and Load Appearance Data, it will give you default hairstyles again. Meteor's Dawntrail hairstyle is a new default.
In Char Gen I am finding that a very pale hrothgal reflects the green scenery around her, giving her white skin/fur a green tinge. The other zones do not have this problem, or at least not to the same degree.
They added a Midday vs Evening setting in outdoor areas as well to test lighting. The lighting in the Gridanian innroom is better; not as bright as outdoors, to be expected, but not completely useless.
New voice type icons to clarifying the sounds you make.
Remember we're getting a free fantasia with the expansion, so some tweaking may be needed; Iyna I felt like I needed to adjust her jaw. Other colors--skin, hair, eyes, tattoos, etc--are showing differently in the various kinds of lighting.
Uncertain if the limit on hairstyles for the Hrothgals so far is just a Benchmark thing; they do have set styles for different head options. Everyone gets Meteor's hair though, so it may be a temporary/Benchmark limit. But which clan and face you choose drastically alters what hair and facial feature options you have access to.
Check your settings, tweak them a bit, play around with chargen, and remember this is still a Benchmark; they always strike me as a little less polished than the finished game, but so far I'm actually pretty pleased with having defined fingers and toes, the irises in the eyes, scars looking cut into the skin, and other improvements.
Update to the Dawntrail Benchmark and Character creator coming soon!
Big news for those of us fretting over the issues with characters in the benchmark.
I hope this will be the fix to most if not all of the issues folks have been worried about.
Here's hoping!
Hello everyone, this is Naoki Yoshida, Producer and Director of FINAL FANTASY XIV.
I would like to thank you all for your feedback regarding the recently released Dawntrail benchmark.
While we have received positive feedback and reactions from players, we have also seen others express their concerns. Therefore, I would like to share the current situation regarding these factors.
1.Character Creation System in the Benchmark
The character creation system was created over ten years ago, based on the release version of A Realm Reborn. Although it used the same processes as the actual game, certain aspects (such as weather) were combined to create special conditions exclusive to character creation. This was done to present the texture resolutions and shaders at their best based on the quality standards at the time, which included the PlayStation 3 version. Furthermore, its light sources take advantage of backlighting which, in this case, proved detrimental for showcasing the upcoming graphical update.
The character creation environment should have been updated, but was overlooked as we prioritized the development of Dawntrail and tuning the graphical update in the actual game, for which I would like to apologize.
We are currently expediting a rework of the environments and light sources of character creation for both the actual game and the benchmark; once that is complete, the current benchmark will be replaced.
The following points are some of the factors that will be resolved by applying the graphical update of the actual game to the character creation system:
A.“Lifeless” eyes due to a lack of highlights in the pupils
B.Facial contours appearing flattened due to incorrect lighting conditions caused by backlighting
C.A lack of gloss or excessive appearance of gloss due to character creation-exclusive weather conditions (i.e. the use of thunderclouds)
The special conditions created for the existing character creation system are largely responsible for the points outlined above. Changing these settings should greatly improve the situation, and I would appreciate it if you could bear with us as we work on updating the benchmark.
2.Issues Related to Certain Data and Processes
Based on the wide range of feedback on the official forums and social media, we were able to pinpoint a number of issues in the data and certain processes which manifested due to our need to modify an enormous amount of data. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience these issues have caused.
Naturally, these issues are steadily being addressed as we finalize our development of Dawntrail. However, these issues remained in the benchmark due to simple data-related errors or neglecting to reflect the upcoming changes to the benchmark environment.
The following are examples of issues which fall into this category:
A.An issue with unimplemented high-resolution textures, including those for certain playable races.
B.An issue pertaining to special data processes.
C.An issue with necklines for playable races under certain circumstances.
D.An issue with uncorrected scaling for the mouth of certain playable races.
The above issues can be corrected, and I would appreciate it if you could bear with us until they are resolved. Naturally, these issues will be addressed in the release version of Dawntrail.
3.Correction and Replacement of the Dawntrail Benchmark
In order to resolve the points outlined in 1 and 2, we are planning for a replacement of the benchmark software. As we require some time to investigate the issues and reconstruct the benchmark environment, the timing and further details of the replacement will be announced later.
We will also continue to make adjustments which incorporate as much of your feedback as possible into the revision of the benchmark, as well as the release version of Dawntrail.
(Due to the issue of release dates, however, there are likely to be some differences between the benchmark software and the release version.)
My apologies for asking you to bear with us as we address the points of concern. The team and I will continue doing our best for the graphical update and Dawntrail's release, and we would appreciate your continued support!
Pro-Tip if Your Benchmark Looks Like Pixelated Ass
Go into Settings
Change your graphics upscaling from AMD to NVIDIA if you CAN.
If you CAN'T. Uncheck dynamic resolution. Turn that fucker off.
Try your benchmark again.
If your specs are low you might still have a low FPS/motion sickness issues. But it should no longer look like someone just tried to turn an 600x700 jpg into a fullscreen wallpaper.
Here’s a first look at what Hali will look like in Dawntrail with the graphics update! The top ones are Hali’s current look, which also includes Reshade, as I was lazy and didn’t turn it off, so apologies for that! The bottom ones are Hali in the Benchmark, which doesn’t have Reshade, but her details are much more defined, especially her hair, nose, and eyes. The dunesfolk eyes are especially impressive, as they have much more detail in the irises and are much shinier and clearer. Honestly the pictures don’t do it justice. So needless to say I’m extremely happy and excited!! 🥰
Here’s some more screenshots of Hali from the Benchmark as a viper, which isn’t canon for her whatsoever, but at least she got to wear Yuna’s attire, which is in fact a canon outfit for her!
A small note: thank god that my PC is running fine as it is, because I was so afraid that I needed an upgrade, but this is very doable, so no need to rush to upgrade the PC just yet.
Also, I was fiddling around with the CC, and I think I made a new alt (perhaps she will take Yume’s place as Hali’s fellow WoL but still as more of a side character in Hali’s story). Say a big welcome to my new femhroth that I’m thinking of naming Soraya!
Well, that’s about it. I’m hoping everyone is enjoying the Benchmark and first look at our OCs updated! If not, my heart goes out to you, as I can only imagine the great disappointment you’re feeling. 🫂💖
0, 50, 100 on the Benchmark's Gamma slider in the "Display" tab in Settings. Messing with this can adjust how much light comes through your screen; it's pretty simplified from the in game setting.
If you're experiencing some character color washout even after checking other settings, give this a try. Then make any potential color adjusts in chargen.
Tad's usual hairstyle isn't available in character creation, so I went with the Man Bun in the benchmark, and tried to pick one as similar as I could in current game.
No other settings were changed, aside from the hair highlight color.
I rather like the Man Bun style on Tad. It makes him look like a proper WoL!
I feel like the young Elezen face got quite an improvement! It wasn't as apparent on Amon, but it is on Tad, IMHO.
