deepest apologies for reminding you bendisboot exists but i was scrolling through old posts talking about them and thought a lot of how incompetent and immature they are could have worked if they went all the way back to the early days of the legion being a kids club. having the legionnaires be actual kids (like, 13-15 year olds or maybe even younger) playing hero in an era that doesnt even need superheroes and they keep messing around with the time machine that they barely understand the consequences of.

You're totally right. I think Bendis even said at one point that he was taking inspiration from the early silver age, but he seems to have missed the fact that they were actual kids at that point. And going back to those roots would have made so much more sense with the way they behaved in his run.

I'm not sure if he could have done a better job with that premise considering how he writes in general, but it would at least have been different and a little more interesting than what the Bendisboot actually became. A good writer could probably have made it very interesting though.

I think I will watch the Legion of Superheroes animated movie. The one set in the Tomorrowverse. I put it off because of the Bendisboot designs but since I'm in a Legion mood, I'll give it a shot.

Btw, has there been any news about the HBO Max animated series that Bendis was supposedly in charge of writing? I haven't heard any news of it in ages.

as a POC i am fully entitled to complain about raceswapping painfully white characters to poc and somehow making their origins racist and ultimately ruining the original character and their story for us when there already are existing black and poc characters literally right there who have interesting lore but you just couldn't be bothered to build on that ?

Just further perpetuates the idea that poc characters cannot be interesting on their own and need to be a white person turned minority to make people like them (news flash: most of the times people don't actually like it)

I mean it's different when the media in question lacks diversity ig in those cases you could raceswap but again why is it always the character who is very clearly white ? What happened to media literacy and understanding characters ? Like genuinely I am capable of making better more respectful raceswaps lmfao

i am so morbidly fascinated by bendis's decision to destroy kandor in the run up to the introduction of his bootleg new krypton... and then confirm that it & all the kandorian kryptonians stayed dead right before new krypton actually showed up... and THEN make sure every "new kryptonian" we saw in the future had the symbol of the exact same house

he really just went out of his way to make it as difficult as possible to explain kryptonian repopulation without mind-boggling amounts of incest. for absolutely no reason

I can understand Douglas being white is apart of canon and history but I'm always reminded to why he's white, that he was initially supposed to be a black character but had to be whitewashed to pander to racists. My point is that even tho it's probably too late to make comic ferro change to fix pass mistakes, an alter interpretation like in movies or a show can make up for this error.

don’t tell either of my gay Brainiac 5 headmates that I said this but I actually think the Supergirl/Brainy in this movie was pretty cute.

Some artistic liberties taken, but this is literally what it felt like watching the movie with them lmao

He did it again. Another issue where he totally skips the action to make people stand around and talk about stuff, including recapping the action we didn't see. The Legion have done this type of misdirection confession plot before, but that version still showed us the action leading up to the reveal, unlike this one which is just a boring part of a pattern of not showing action.

And that one page feels like he just copy pasted a anti-Batman post straight into his script. It doesn't make sense in universe.

Brainy informs us that he's smart, but that remains a informed attribute. He doesn't even seem to have done anything to help with the confession gambit.

Then there's this attempt to, idk, tell us that the moral of the story is "don't time travel" also feels out of place. He should know that. He shouldn't have been complacent with all the shit they've already caused in the first place. He's already acted like an idiot about it, who is he to dictate what anyone should do about it? He's so deeply stupid, despite the constant telling and not showing of the opposite, and I hate this version of him so much.

We still know fuck all about the Gold Lanterns, but apparently they need a corps now because what this already severely underdeveloped incarnation of the Legion needs is competition for page space. Hell, even the GLC can barely support a book right now and you expect people to buy into a totally new and poorly defined corps that doesn't even seem to work with the established lore? Does anyone even care about them?

Are we just going to ignore the shitty not-actually-a-love-triangle-because-the-writers-refuse-to-acknowledge-each-other? Can Imra stop being a creep?

This book has been an awful, dull mess. It's overcrowded, disjointed, filled with loose threads and "funny" dialogue that totally misses the mark and it just straight up isn't good. I'd even shy away from calling it a story, it's so incoherent that it barely even follows a story structure.

This version of the Legion is boring and unfocused and barely even feels like the Legion. Almost nothing that's been added to their lore in this run has been good, most of it hasn't even been developed beyond an extremely superficial level and a lot of it has been built on a poor understanding of the DCU. It was supposed to be a "diverse" take on the Legion, but that too is just a surface thing and the entire thing is just filled with unfortunate implications. I hope we never have to see them again, or at least that the next person who tries to write them just ignores 90% of what's been written so far and actually tries to write them well and as themselves.

This fic was a result of my immense dislike for what they've been doing to Kon's character since Young Justice 2019 ended. It went through a couple of drafts, but since I haven't caught up on Superman and Action Comics since Otho Ra was rescued from that weirdo woman, I decided it was finally time to lay this baby to rest. Who knows when we'll get good Kon writing again, so here's me writing as close to a canon-compliant fic as I can get without crying. May the BartKon persist even after Fitzmartin, Visaggio, Porter, and DC Editorial's many haterations.

And yes.... the title is a reference to Persephone eating them pomegranate seeds, lmaoooooooooo I wonder who Hades is! I wonder!!!

remembering reading the chatter on bart yeaaaaars ago when the geoffian clownery peaked and then bart got ganked (again), and a lot of ppl were like…… but do we actually care? and i know a lot didn’t, and i DID love bart but i also sorta didn’t mind him dying because the bart that was in yj98+impulse was so disconnected from the geoffian bart, which was ALSO disconnected from smallville!bart (my main man growing up) so when he died for good prior to the bendisboot (discounting new 52), i always thought that was the end of it. imagine my shock when the bendis reign thought young justice was worth another run. and you know what? it was fun! i still love bart, but i think i might have forever ignored everything after his flashpoint death had bendis not done the work on the revival. tbh bart in yj2019 felt much closer to yj98+impulse bart than the one during the geoffian clown show 😂😂
