2. conduct research into their life stories
Jack Stauber - work
He started off by making music. He released his debut album, titled “Finite Form”, at just the age of 16 on March 18th 2013. The album was more experimental than his later works, but what would become his distinctly unique style still shined through in this early piece. This initial album is what gained him a small cult following.
Less than a month later, on April 1st 2013, he also uploads his first video to Youtube. This was meant to just be a test of cool psychedelic effects that included his band’s music in the background. From 2013 to 2015 he started uploading short animation pieces consistently. They were mostly simple looped 2D animations.
It was also around this time that Stauber founded Plopscotch Records: a record label created solely enact copyright on his own songs. Stauber is still signed to Plopscotch Records to this day.
In 2015 he released his second album “Viator”. This album contrasts heavily with all his other  works, leaning more heavily toward folk pop than any of his other albums. However, his knack for incorporating mixed sounds and media to is evident in this album though his use of a calming acoustic guitar mixed with his surreal and off putting vocal performance. Stauber was grieving a loss when producing this album. As a result,  it would be noted for being spontaneous and have various mood changes and many different interludes in the album, which was meant to give a true experience of what was going through Jack's mentality at the time.
On September 27th, 2015, Jack would upload an animation titled “Marketing” to his Youtube. It was his first ever animation using Microsoft Paint. It would later become a staple in most of his animated pieces.
On March 15th, 2016 Jack uploaded a singing video titled “Quicksand.” This would be his first publicly documented use of his iconic VHS effect.
“Pavlov” was uploaded to his Youtube on June 16th, 2016. It was the first micro pop he ever posted to the channel. From late 2016 to 2017, Jack would start experimenting with more surreal and psychedelic animation styles and would start to incorporate the VHS aesthetic and mixed media into his work. He experienced with mixing 2D animation, live action and CGI.
In 2017 Jack uploaded mutiple animations: a four-part musical series titled "Doodle Music”, a music video for a song called “Koi boy”, and some promotional videos for his upcoming album “Pop Food.”
“Pop Food” was released on March 25th of 2017 and later became his most popular album with the first two songs on the track becoming viral on social media.
Jack once again continued to upload his animations to his various social medias and continued to make music. On November 17th 2017, he would upload an animation called “Trent the Baby.” This was his first animation incorporating his Microsoft Paint animations with a VHS effect. Once again, bringing him closer to his current distinct art style.
The Youtube channel only started gaining popularity in March of 2018.
His most notable works from 2018 include: Inchman, Fighter, Benny Worm, Bumblebees are out, and Peppermint. At the time the latter two were his most famous animations/songs. He also uploaded his first claymation animation at this time titled “Al Dente.”
April 5th 2018 - created a music video for “dead weight,” which was one of the songs on his new album called HiLo.
April 15th 2018 - released HiLo. Would also later release animated music videos for “Two time” and “cheeseburger family”.
May 2018 — created animated video called “Hamantha” and an animated music video for “getting my mom on”
In July 2018, Jack created his first animation for Adult Swim, titled “Wishing Apple.” In it, two friends eat and apple and discover that it is actually a ‘wishing apple.’
After this he was also invited to create a short for “Off the Air” — an Adult Swim series played in the early hours of the morning that is presented without explanation and shows surreal footage, all based around a loose theme. For this series Stauber provided a pre-existing video he had made called “Valentine's Day is Not for the Lonely,” and it aired on August 29th, 2018. In typical Jack stauber fashion the piece is described as funny yet bittersweet.
Continued to create animated shorts. One significant one was “nurpo” which featured a character that would become famous in internet pop culture. He also wrote two songs called “doctor” and “lima bean man,” the latter of which would end up becoming very popular.
On December 1st 2018, he held a major live show at the Rex Theater, PA, which would end up being his last major live show. During the show his keyboard was surrounded by seven tube TVs with half the TVs displaying 2D stop motion teeth while the half displayed claymation eyeballs.
At the start of 2019, Jack uploaded Baby Hotline, cooking with Abigail,  Good Morning Blondie, Cupid, and Day Job to his Youtube — all of which would go viral and become some of his most well known works.
In March 2019 Stauber partnered with Adult Swim again to create a cartoon mini series titled “SHOP: A Pop Opera.” The series followed a man in a grocery store as he bought his groceries and meets a series of weird and eccentric people. Each episode was titled after each item on the character’s grocery list. This was probably is second best received piece he had done for Adult Swim and one of the best animations he had created in his overall discography, with many of the songs from the series becoming popular even outside of his community.
Later in March Stauber would also produce some more very poplar animations, namely: Hope, Deploy, and Rain.
In April he would produce only four animations due to a serious arm injury: Good Luck Chasing Your Mind, Help, Dinner is Not Over, and Out The Ox.
In 2019 Stauber also produced his last piece for Adult Swim. The short was titled “Opal” and it is widely regarded as one of his best works ever. It was noticeably darker in tone compared  to Stauber’s earlier projects for Adult Swim, and dealt with heavy topics such as childhood trauma and abuse. This was also Stauber’s first time fully delving into psychological horror.
Later in the year he uploaded “Library” to his Youtube. The animation dealt with grief and how recovering from grief can feel a lot like betraying the person you lost. It addresses the mind numbing depression you experience when you are grieving and the worry that you might someday forget what your loved one looked like. This is another animation that would become wildly popular in the internet.
Jack continued to post animated work throughout 2019 and into 2020. In May 2020, Jack Stauber won the Shorty Award for ‘Best in Weird.’ 2020 was also the year that many for Jack’s music, animations, and art style become extremely popular all over the internet.
In the past few years Jack Stauber has uploaded a few animated videos but overall has maintained a hiatus (possibly due to the stress of constant hacking into his different social medias) and any possible new projects have not been mentioned. Although he remains semi-active on his patreon.

Orfeas Souris is a Greek composer, guitarist, vocalist and lyrics writer. Was raised in the wildland, son of a woman and a man. Since the early days, art was the only way to get away from people and violence. His compositions combine natural, analog and digital sounds, exploring jazz, electronic, indie rock and garage, always with a twist of a cranky experiment. In the masterplan, music and sound must interact with other forms of art, such as cinema, writing novels, painting, and a general "conjure up" of reality, to a physical imprint. If you search for his work, you will find fragments and parts, in chaotic order and fashion, starting from photography and picture exhibitions, moving up to film and video making and music pieces, that were unexpectedly produced and spread, for no reason whatsoever. Always on the road, moving from place to place, with a need for spreading and collecting information and unhealthy habits that express whatever he is. - Music - Youtube

Hallucinogenic Horror-Comedy ALL JACKED UP AND FULL OF WORMS Oozes Onto Screambox on November 8
youtube
Take a trip with freaky festival favorite All Jacked Up and Full of Worms! The hallucinogenic horror-comedy streams exclusively on Screambox on November 8. It will also be available on VOD platforms the same day via Cinedigm.
Roscoe, a janitor for a scuzzy love motel, drifts through life until he discovers a hidden stash of powerful hallucinogenic worms. Guided by visions of a giant floating worm, he encounters Benny, a moped enthusiast trying to manifest a baby from an inanimate sex doll. They fall in love with doing worms together on a downward spiral into the primordial ooze.
Writer-director Alex Phillips makes his feature debut on the avant-gutter freakout. Phillip Andre Botello (The Art of Self-Defense), Trevor Dawkins (Easy), and Betsey Brown (The Scary of Sixty-First) star.
All Jacked Up and Full of Worms premiered at the 2022 Fantasia International Film Festival, where festival programmer Celia Pouzet described it as "Trainspotting meets Brain Damage with a dash of Videodrome." It went on to earn a Special Jury Mention.
The film has been praised by Variety as "a euphoria-fuelled rampage," by Nerdist as "the weirdest movie you have to see," and by screenwriter C. Robert Cargill (The Black Phone, Doctor Strange) as "supremely fucked up, gross out, midnight movie nonsense of the highest degree."
Prior to its Screambox release, daring moviegoers can experience the transgressive splatterfest on the big screen during its theatrical roadshow. Upcoming screenings include:
10/27 — Chitown Movies Drive In — Chicago, IL 10/27, 10/31 — Spectacle Theater — Brooklyn, NY 10/28 — Hippodrome Theatre — Gainesville, FL 11/3, 11/4, 11/5, 11/6 — Sidewalk Cinema — Birmingham, AL 11/4, 11/5 — Grand Illusion Cinema — Seattle, WA 11/4 — Roxy Theater — Missoula, MT 11/4 — Music Box Theatre — Chicago, IL 11/4, 11/5 — Mayfair Theatre — Ottawa, Canada 11/7 — Alamo Drafthouse Downtown LA — Los Angeles, CA 11/7 — Alamo Drafthouse Lower Manhattan — New York, NY

It pains me that it’s over, that it’s been over for almost a year, that holy fuck that’s 16 years a lot of you spent watching and growing up with this show. That Jensen and J*red spent 15 years on that show, dedicated basically everything into it, with Misha dedicating 12 years. e (I’ve only started watching last year, but been interacting with he fandom for a couple years because of tumblr and a friend who also loves the show and got me to watch it) and just falling in love immediately. And yes, s1 was not the best season, Wendigo and Bugs exist in that season but I mean didn’t it give the show that charm? And how they put that filter on in early seasons to make it look more dark and it just made supernatural what it was. And Sam and Dean, the two brothers who wormed their way into our hearts, and when Sam had that haircut that just disappeared s3 basically lmao.
Then it evolved, it grew, we were put through this emotional rollercoaster, they introduced Castiel in season 4, the best character in the show if you ask me, and he instantly became a hit. Dammit Misha and his incredible acting and making me get extremely attached to the gay angel. There was Crowley, Rowena, Jack, Charlie, Kevin, Jody, Claire, Benny, Donna, these characters that could take over the whole damn show and I would still watch, I love them very much.
This show, this show gives me so much. I watch it when I’m happy, I watch it when I’m so depressed and I want to just cry forever, it really means so much to me. And not only the show but the cast. Watching panels, interviews, cons, anything and they make me smile. They really are one of my most favourite casts from a show (misha is a personal favourite if you couldn’t tell). Just the fact I get to be alive at the same time as them is astounding. They are forever in my heart.
And to the friends I’ve made because of this show! @deans-honeybee I love you with all my being i swear you are one of the greatest things to come out of me watching the show 🖤 💙
Thank you Supernatural, for just existing.
Happy 16th spn anniversary ♥️
P.s sorry for the shitty art I rushed it

Films you need to watch if you want to fit in at film school.
By now, you’re probably knee deep in your filmmaking course at film school or university and if you want to keep up with the film discussions in between classes, then here’s a list of exemplary films to watch (and flex on) whilst at school.
It’s never a fun moment when you’re sat in a group of other film buffs and everyone but you have seen one particular film. Not only that, but they continue to bang on about it, and in those 12 minutes you’re left wishing gosh, I wish I had watched that now.
Tumblr media
I know the feeling and to make sure you don’t get caught out again, this list of films not only covers your filmmaker wannabe basics, but also a few swarve anomalies that you can throw into the discussion like a true culture vulture.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Tumblr media
I shouldn’t be saying this but if you haven’t seen Pulp Fiction and you made it to film school, just leave. Hand in your student ID at reception and walk out the door, watch Pulp Fiction and come back to the next day. If you haven’t seen the 90s cult classic directed by Quentin Tarantino, it’s likely you’ve had at least one person disgusted by your lack of engagement for the film. But why is it such a necessity amongst the filmmakers of today? Well after a highly successful debut of Reservoir Dogs at Cannes Films Festival in 1992, Tarantino created another world of filmmaking. What he brought to the industry was a perspective and whole landscape that had never been seen before and the release of Pulp Fiction in 1994, certainly proved that Tarantino wasn’t a one trick pony. With a stellar cast, most of which were in their early days, and an outstanding storyline, Pulp Fiction is any filmmaker's paradise. And seriously, you can’t keep avoiding it.
Fight Club (1999)
Tumblr media
Keeping it in the 90s, is David Fincher’s Fight Club, another revolutionary film from the king of psychological thrillers. If the name David Fincher doesn’t mean anything to you, it probably should, seeing as his films have grossed over $2.1 billion at the box office globally and earnt him 30 Academy Award nominations. Story, script and cast align perfectly in all of Fincher’s films, with Fight Club being no exception. Based on the 1996 novel by Chuck Palahnuik, Fight Club follows two men (Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, enough said) who initiate in an organised fight club. Sounds pretty straight forward until you get to the end and realise Fincher has been messing with all of us the entire time. In terms of early filmmaking and story structure, Fight Club is an excellent cult classic to sink your teeth into.
Psycho (1960)
Tumblr media
Another name to be aware of, Alfred Hitchcock laid down the foundation for thrillers for generations to come. For it’s time, Psycho was revolutionary as it broke the strict censorship and threat barriers created in the world of filmmaking in the 60s. There are some iconic scenes in Psycho, along with an unnerving score and a whopping $39.2 million profit in the box office. Hitchcock also took a gamble killing off the star of the film, Janet Leigh, 45 minutes into the film. However, Psycho just goes to show that risks can also pay off.
La Haine (1995) “The Hate”
Tumblr media
There’s a reason why some of the most revolutionary films can be found in the 90s. The 90s was the year of filmmaking that gave two fingers to the world and most of its stories belonged to the misfits and outcasts of society. Films were violent, punchy and led by young protagonists, raking in teenage audiences and voices. La Haine is a prime and clear cut example of the injustice between races and class in Paris, winning a Best Director award at Cannes in 1995. The film was so thought provoking and hard hitting, that the Prime Minister of France at the time forced his cabinet ministers to watch it. I’m sorry, if La Haine is good enough for the Prime Minister of France, it’s good enough for anyone.
Any Bong Joon Ho Film
Tumblr media
With the success of Parasite still looming over Hollywood, Bong Joon Ho has to be the industry’s biggest underdog. Before the 2020 Oscars, most weren’t even aware of the director’s work or how gratifying he is as a storyteller. Each film is meticulously executed, with a hard hitting political message sewn beneath the surface of the overall film. Bong Joon Ho was quoted saying that this technique isn’t intentional and the breadth of the films he makes is found once they’re completed. From Okja that explores animal cruelty to Snowpiercer which explores class division, Bong Joon Ho has a way with imbedding societal issues into his films in a stylstic and structured way that should have any filmmaker filled with envy. He’s a strong voice for Asian cinema who’s had a sharp impact on western cinema without feeling the need to have all his films in the english language.
The 400 Blows (1960) “Les Quatre Cents Coups”
Tumblr media
Whether you’re at school, in a lecture or amongst friends GUARANTEED the 400 Blows is going to worm its way into conversation at some point. The film was part of The French New Wave movement of the last 50s that created the foundation for French Cinema for films to come. The French New Wave was a significant movement that sought out to reject traditional ways of filmmaking and introduced new, more experimental ways of telling stories on screen. Francois Truffat won Best Director at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival for his directorial debut about a young boy struggling through Paris between his teachers at school and parents at home. The film shone a light on the misunderstood youth of the late 50s and early 60s, setting off a whole co-ord of films within the same genre later on.
Moonlight (2016)
Tumblr media
Barry Jenkins became the underdog of 2017, with his beautiful and captivating story Moonlight, following a young boy through early adolescence and adulthood. The film is impeccably shot with rich colours and seamless shots. Moonlight won big time at the 2017 Academy Awards, winning Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay. The film certainly set the world of filmmaking on fire and carved out space for more black filmmakers to enter into the industry.
Hereditary (2018)
Tumblr media
It’s easy to forget that this film was released 2 years ago as it has had some groundbreaking reception since then. Hereditary, directed by Ari Aster, sets a bar and tone within horror films that has never been touched on before. Before him, your average horrors came from low budget gimmicky films where the lead actress would be running around in her underwear by the end of the film. Hereditary keeps everyone in their clothes (for the most part) and viewers on the edge of their seats for the entirety of the film. What stands at the forefront of this film is the slow pace and artistically beautiful frames that Ari Aster has meticulously curated to create a work of art. It’s everything you wanted in a horror film but could never really ask for, due to the over saturation of the horror films on the market and predictable jump scares that come with them. I found that the jump scares in Hereditary were put in the most unpredictable places, leaving me and most people visibly shaken and disturbed.
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
Tumblr media
Probably the first PG film on this list, Wes Anderson’s most iconic film The Grand Budapest Hotel, is a production designer’s paradise. Not only that, it features an insanely good cast with the likes of Jeff Goldblum, Ralph Fiennes, Bill Murray, Saoirse Ronan, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Willem Dafoe, Harvey Keitel, Jude Law and Edward Norton starring in the film. Wes Anderson’s mind is like a fairy tale book; he has the ability to create other worlds filled with bright colours and characters that EVERY ACTOR are dying to be. The Grand Budapest is probably Anderson’s most ambitious film to date and features some production design techniques that are beyond real.
Amélie (2001)
Tumblr media
Amélie is your basic starter pack in French Cinema. Seeing as every charity shop has at least one copy of Amélie for sale, you have zero excuse for not having seen it yet. Even if French Cinema isn’t your thing, it’s very likely the entirety of French Cinema will be a topic of interest within your filmmaking course and Amélie is a fine place to start. The film ties the story, soundtrack and visuals perfectly and for any indie filmmaker, it’s a good example of taking a simple story but executing it in a complex way. In terms of box office, Amélie scored pretty well, with a humble budget of $10 million and making over $173 million globally. It was also nominated for five Academy Awards in 2002 and remains as one of the best and most iconic films to come out of France.
Good Time (2017)
Tumblr media
With a humble budget of $2 million, Good Time made double in the box office and had a Hollywood star at its forefront. In fact Good Time skyrocketed Robert Pattinson’s career and since it’s release, Pattinson has gone on to be part of some amazing projects. Seeing Pattinson in such a gritty role in Good Time, was highly refreshing and totally suited him in every way. New York based filmmakers, Josh and Benny Safdie co directed and wrote the crime thriller after having an impressive response from their previous film, Heaven Knows What. They recently completed Uncut Gems for Netflix starring Adam Sandler, which continued the crime thriller neon lights aesthetic that's come with their two previous films. Good Time is jaw droppingly good, and for those wanting to go into lighting, it is a must watch. The deeper the story goes, the more you feel the urge to gasp as Robert Pattinson feeds us with an unrecognisable performance.
8 ½ (1963)
Tumblr media
We are getting into sophisticated territory here with Fredrico Fellini’s 8 ½ . For those Scorsese and Tarantino fans out there, Fellini is your filmmaking bread and butter as both filmmakers have admitted to being heavily inspired by the Italian’s cinematic masterpieces. Fellini had the ability to tie reality with fantasy in a personal way, depicting a lot of his own life within his films. 8 ½ is no expectation, as it details the making of the actual film in the film and the rocky relationship he had with his wife, who starred in a few of his films. Fellini is named as one of the best filmmakers of all time, for his experimental style and off the wall filmmaking techniques. No one can or could do what Fellini did and there’s yet to be anyone who measures up to him.
Get Out (2017)
Tumblr media
You like Get Out, I like Get Out, we ALL like Get Out. The film was the first of its kind in many ways and resonated with an audience that hadn’t yet been found. Jordan Peele wrote and directed the film, which grossed 100 times more than the film’s budget at the box office. This film is the epitome of less is more, taking a somewhat simple idea and heightening the possibilities of it. Jordan Peele became world renowned for it, along with British actor Daniel Kaluuya for his performance that earned him a Best Actor nomination at the 2018 Academy Awards. Get Out stands as a film that did what no one else has done before and for that, it deserves all the praise it gets.
All Celine Sciamma films
Tumblr media
It’s likely the first time you heard of French filmmaker Celine Sciamma was from her groundbreaking, break through film Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Premiering at Cannes 2019, the film earned the Queer Palm d’Or and Best Screenplay Award. The film is simple, gorgeously shot and significantly deep in its telling. Not only will Portrait of a Lady on fire set you on fire, but all of Sciamma’s films sit on a level of filmmaking that is praise worthy. Her past films, Waterlilies and Girlhood explore coming of age stories amongst women and are executed in a highly personal and understanding way. She is the queen of female indie filmmakers and certainly one of the best french filmmakers in the industry to date.
I, Daniel Blake (2016)
Tumblr media
It can be hard to remove the gimmicks and big names from the stories being sold on screen and get straight to the heart of a film. Ken Loach has brought an incomparable style of filmmaking to the table that sets him apart from almost every filmmaker out there. It's easy to compare a Tarantino film to a David Fincher one, however, throw Ken Loach into the mix there's just about zero relation to either filmmaker or their styles. I, Daniel Blake won Outstanding British Film of the Year in 2017 BAFTAs and the Palm d’Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. It’s no wonder why the Cannes Film Festival ate this film up seeing as the realism and grittiness of I, Daniel Blake gave a voice to a large part of society that is heavily ignored. This film leaves you nodding in agreement at the reality of the way things are even if that reality is incredibly hard to bear.
The Meyerowitz Stories (2017)
Tumblr media
For those budding screenwriters out there, the work of Noah Baumbach is necessary in understanding three dimensional characters and the dialogue that comes with them. The Meyerowitz Stories stands from Baumbach’s other films, seeing as the screenplay and actual film are completely the same. On reading the screenplay of this film, I found not one single word of dialogue was forgotten about or changed, which is a pretty incredible achievement for any filmmaker. It certainly showed the actors (Dustin Hoffman, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Emma Thompson, Adam Driver) had a lot of respect for the words on the page and each one of their performances sought to lift them off it. Baumbach’s writing style is beautifully accurate to real speech; there’s interruptions, over layered conversations and a great deal of tangents. The dialogue is like music and is only elevated by the well rounded cast.
The Master (2012)
Tumblr media
Filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson has this hypnotic way of arresting his audiences to invest in his films for two and a half hours, then drop them at the last second. You don’t know why you’re watching or feel so absorbed in the worlds he creates, however it’s as if something over takes your attention, forcing you to carry on watching till the end. The Master is no different with a prolific cast and slow burnt pace to it. It's hard to explain what it is about this film that makes it so great. The cast made up of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams and Jesse Plemons bring a top level performance and it feels like they’re always sitting on a secret. Every moment, every word, every shot is unmissable and the entirety of the film sets a bar of filmmaking that is flawless. Paul Thomas Anderson is a master (pardon the pun) of arresting his audiences and is someone to follow if you wish to do the same with your own films. For budding cinematographers, all of PTA’s films are worth a watch.
12 years a slave (2013)
Tumblr media
Probably the best film out there that depicts slavery, 12 years a slave is a heart wrenching and moving film directed by Steve McQueen. The sensitivity and authenticity Steve McQueen brings to his films is A class, as he does an outstanding job of really transporting his audiences to a time before. There are many scenes in 12 years a slave that can be considered some of the best ever made. The cast is in-sane with the likes of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lupita Nyong’o, Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Fassbender, Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt and even a young Storm Reid and Kelvin Harrison Junior, all joined within this story. Films with such casts are rare and it’s unquestionable why the film was nominated for Nine Academy Awards, winning three back in 2014.
The Social Network (2010)
Tumblr media
Even though I wasn’t a fan of The Social Network, I can still appreciate the musicality behind the work of Aaron Sorkin and the screenplay he wrote for this. The collaboration between David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin on this film is something the world certainly needed, as two highly skilled masters of film came together and served us a huge slice of their talent. The Social Network is 100% the screenwriter’s film, and one to watch when trying to analyse successful dialogue within films.
 Babel (2006)
Tumblr media
Those who are into the episodic film, you are advised to look into the work of Alejandro G. Iñárritu. A name you might not be too familiar with, but you only need to have seen Birdman or The Revenant to appreciate his talents as a director and unique voice. Babel struck me as a poignant and INCREDIBLY structured film, with a satisfying 360 to it, as all the stories connect to one another in a distinct way. It’s so clear that a lot of time was put into writing such a screenplay and the production itself is to be noted, for scenes are filmed in Morocco, Tokyo, California and Mexico. That takes a LOT of money, time, effort and people, however if was certainly worth it as Babel is hands down one of the best films you’ll ever see.
The films of Xavier Dolan.
Tumblr media
Xavier Dolan is Cannes Film Festival’s godson. The man has attended every festival for the past 10 years and each time, when in competition, he brings a personal and hard hitting perspective within his films. I have seen all but one of these films, and I suggest you do too. Xavier Dolan’s directorial debut I Hate My Mother scooped him numerous awards at the Cannes Film Festival and was made when Dolan was only 20. From then, he went on to direct several french/canadian films that won him the Jury Prize, Un Certain Regard and Queer Palm at Cannes. He’s a filmmaker who puts so much passion and devotion into his work, which is seen through the incredible acting, story and dialogue shown within his films. Two must see films of his would be Mommy and Laurence Anyways, especially for the acting. Xavier Dolan also directed the music video for Adele’s Hello music video which is one of the most watched music videos of all time, with 2.7 Billion views on YouTube.
You Were Never Really Here (2017)
Tumblr media
Lynne Ramsay’s 2017 film starring Joaquin Phoenix is everything and more that you want from a thriller. It’s probably one of the best thrillers out there on the market and is highly underrated. Lynne Ramsay’s previous spellbinding feature We Need To Talk About Kevin sent pulses racing through the industry, giving Ramsay the recognition she deserves and even earning her a Palm d’Or nomination at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. As a female filmmaker, Lynne Ramsay is one to watch for she has a knack at creating her own original slow burning, deep stories and directing them in a seamless way.
The films of Christopher Nolan
Tumblr media
Christopher Nolan’s 11th film recently hit cinemas and no one knows what the hell is going on in it. However, there are plenty of other Christopher Nolan films that don’t melt your brain or send the guy next to you at the cinema cursing throughout the film in frustration at not understanding the film. The Dark Knight is said to have one the best performances in cinema history, with the late Heath Ledger taking on the role of the Joker. Not only that, but the likes of Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway and Christian Bale are also featured alongside Ledger, creating an untouchable cast. Dunkirk also deserves an honourable mention as one of Nolan’s films, seeing as I couldn’t breathe throughout the entire film. The second Dunkirk begins, the tension builds and you’re kept in a constant state of panic for the characters on screen. As far as war films go, Dunkirk is up there and it’s cinematic qualities were recognised at the 2018 Academy Awards, picking up three awards. What we can take from Christopher Nolan and his ability to execute stories on screen is that he spends a great deal on his screenplays before production. Tenet took FIVE YEARS to write (and probably another five to understand) certainly showing his devotion and dedication to his ideas as a filmmaker.
Honorouble mentions (that u should definitely check out)
Taxi Driver (1976) A Clockwork Orange (1971) Call me by your name (2017) Her. (2017) Do the right thing (1989)
Obviously there are 100s of other films worth watching that aren’t on this list, however if you were to watch all films mentioned on this list, you’d certainly get a different perspective on the possibilities of filmmaking and the stories they tell.

Hi, how are you? I've never sent an ask for ships purposes haha mostly into reading it because they're incredibly entertaining and fun. Now finally I will leave mine. Well, I'm pretty sensitive girl, caring, kind to almost anyone except rude ones, or any situation that seems unfair, I just can't bear it. I will fight anything. I love literature, I speak 3 languages, obsessed with arts in general. Kinda daredevil, equestrian here. Cons, too passionate, idealistic and sometimes stubborn.
Hey hun! I'm doing much better now! Enjoying catching up in everything in my inbox, haha. You came to the right place love! Let's see...
I ship you with...
Tumblr media
Billy!
You were never one to draw attention to yourself. Quite the opposite, actually. You preferred staying hidden and not running with all the popular kids
Jonathan Byers was your best friend and he understood your reasons
But if there was one thing you hated with your entire being
It was bullies
You were never afraid to stand up for the little guy. It was something you were known for. And surprisingly, you didn't mind that reputation
Since Jonathan had started hanging out with Nancy and Steve, you were dragged along as well. Nancy became like a sister to you and Steve was rapidly gaining older brother status. It was impressive how quickly they became close to you
Things were good for a couple months. No more Demogorgans, no more Upside Down
But then, Billy Hargrove rolled into town
And that's when the nightmare started
He had his heart set on becoming the new King of Hawkins. You weren't surprised, it seemed to be in his nature to want to be the center of attention. But you also knew that Steve held that title for a long time and wasn't ready to give it up quite yet
You had watched from the sidelines as Billy charmed his way through at least half the female population of Hawkins High during his first week in town. You had also been witness to how he set his sights on Steve
Needless to say, you were less than impressed
Seeing the way he treated people was getting on your nerves. And you'd had enough
You had been minding your own business, talking to Lisa and a few other girls in the corner when you heard his obnoxious voice over the thumping music. You rolled your eyes as you realized a fight was about to start
So, doing what you did best, you made your way to where Steve was facing off against Billy once again. There was a crowd of people already gathered around, chanting for them to fight
You'd had enough
Taking a shot of the liquid courage in Taylor's cup, you stalked in between the two boys. You stepped in with your back to Steve and your arms crossed as you glared at Billy. "And just what do you think you're doing?" you snapped
Billy raised his eyebrows in surprise as your small stature blocked his line of sight for Steve. He seemed lost for words at the surprise of seeing you jump into the middle
Seeing that he wasn't going to give you an answer, you whirled on Steve. "And you know better!"
He looked rather taken aback by your outburst. But then he looked at the ground in shame before muttering an apology
You looked back at Billy, who was still lost for words. Your glare shifted between the both of them before you rolled your eyes. "That's enough, boys. This petty fighting is going to stop." You shoved your finger into Billy's chest, making him stumble back slightly from the surprise. "You're going to stop picking the fights. I'm tired of seeing the two of you at each other's throats." You turned to Steve, your glare enough to freeze the fires of hell. "And you're going to stop antagonizing him. All you're doing is making thibgs worse."
They both looked at you in varying degrees of surprise. You could hear a pen drop in the silence from the crowd as they watched with bated breath to see what was going to happen. When you received no response from either of them, you spoke again. "Do I make myself clear?"
Still, neither of them were willing to answer. So you did what any logical person would do. You grabbed the both of them by their ears and yanked their heads down to your level. "Do. I make. Myself. Clear." you hissed
Both boys squirmed under your grip and let out sounds of pain. But neither of them were willing to back down. So, you squeezed harder
"OW! All right, all right. Jesus Christ woman!" Billy snapped. "I'll play nice."
You lessened your grip on him before turning to Steve. "Stevie?"
"Fine," he grunted. "I'll try to get along with him."
Satisfied, you released both boys before looking menacingly between them. "Good. And I swear, if either of you don't keep your word, I'll beat your ass so hard you'll be seeing stars for a month."
And with an annoyed huff, you made your exit
Things went smoothly for the next couple of months. Everyone was in awe of what you did, stopping the petty bickering between the two alpha males. It was something no one had been able to manage before. But when they noticed you were in the vicinity, they were on their extra best behavior to not incur your wrath once more
Billy seemed to be actually making an effort to play nice with Steve. And he was also making an effort to get to know you as well
At first you weren't having it. You knew of his reputation and you didn't want to get involved in that. But the effort he was making seemed to be a genuine one
You decided to give him a chance. At first it started ouht innocent, talking with him at lunch and offering to help with his English homework. It progressed from their and the two of you surprisingly became good friends
And somehow, he managed to worm his way into your heart
It wasn't planned and it most certainly wasn't expected. But you accepted the fact that the bad boy from Cali had rooted himself deep in your subconscious. There wasn't really a lot you could do about it
So when he asked you if you would have dinner with him at Benny's and catch a movie afterwards, you were all for it

In the Heights AU-Watership Down AU plot, part 6
((Alright, time for the violent shit to start))
In the coming days, Usnavi and Benny are on the mend with Eliseo, though they have to be watched like a hawk because they keep trying to get up and do things. Yes, you should exercise but don’t push yourself too hard! As Eliseo has been resting and healing, his wing heals first. Grateful for the rabbits help,he gladly takes to the sky to look for anymore warrens that look like they can spare some members. Benny and Nina are growing closer as the days go by. She often sits with Usnavi and Benny, both to keep them company and catch up, though Usnavi can obviously see that Nina is often sitting next to Benny. Benny even annoys him about how he looks before the usual time she comes over. Benny, you look the same everyday, quit trying to impress Nina! Kevin seems a little unhappy at this development because he just got Nina back, why did she have to grow up? Camila however is happy that the two are getting closer to each other. Eliseo returns after a few more days with news that about a few hours away(for the rabbits) is another warren that looks to be overcrowded with rabbits. After a meeting the warren decides to send three to ask for any rabbits that would like to join their group. Usnavi volunteers and asks Kevin and Pete to join him,Benny being left behind to guard the warren. After some well wishes from Abuela, the trio of rabbits follows Eliseo’s directions ,thanking him for his help. Eliseo tells them that he’ll head back to The Heights and stay for a few more days–he wants to hear the end of one of Abuela’s stories, and there’s still plenty of worms to tide him over. A few hours later,Usnavi, Kevin and Pete reach the new warren’s territory. They come across a patrol of four big, scarred bucks. Though a little unnerved by their cold stares,Usnavi introduces himself and his two companions, telling them that they would like to speak with the chief of this warren.(It’s important to note that Usnavi does not say he is chief of The Heights to these rabbits, though he is the chief. He did not think it was important). The rabbits, some even chuckling darkly, agree to take them to their leader. The four surround the three herding them into one of the tunnels, roughly pushing them to move them along. As they continue deeper into the warren they can see the deplorable conditions there. Another buck is screaming at group of does to move along, knocking one to the ground as she moves a bit too slowly for his liking. Kevin moves to try and stop him,but he’s warned by one of their guards that if he knew what was good for him,he’d move it. Reluctantly Kevin backs down, and the group is led to a large den. Several bucks, obviously Owsla officers stand at attention, Pete whispers that these are the biggest rabbits he’s ever seen. Then a new GIANT rabbit appears from another tunnel taking his place at the head of the officers. “Correction, THAT is the biggest rabbit I’ve ever seen” Usnavi quickly shushes him, placing himself in front of the younger buck subconsciously. The rabbit is a humongous scarred buck, with torn ears, and missing his left eye. He asks who the trio are. Once again, Usnavi introduces them. The chief is called General Sikes. One of the officers sharply tells Usnavi that he will refer to the General as sir,to which Usnavi obliges. He explains to the General that they are a newly established warren, and they would like to see if any rabbits would like to join, overcrowded as this warren is(They’re all disgusted at the conditions here but are trying to be diplomatic). At first, the General doesn’t seem to react, but then bursts out with evil laughter. They have the audacity to ask them for bucks and does!? They should have never come here, now they will never leave. They are now prisoners of Efrafa, the General promises that the rest of their warren will soon join them once they are found, to their horror. He gives Lee,a ruthless Captain of his Owsla, the task of taking these three to recieve their marks. The trio tries to protest but they are ignored and roughly moved along. As they’re led to the rabbit who will give them their marks, another group is pushed in with them, some does that were trying to escape, led by a doe named Vanessa. The groups quickly exchange names and greetings before being told to shut up. The rabbit that will be giving them their marks has extremely long claws. Whatever mark they receive is the group they are assigned to. Lee cheerfully asks if there are any volunteers to go first. Vanessa volunteers, saying she isn’t afraid, receiving the painful wound. After seeing this cruel sight ,Kevin tells Lee that he lacks animality(think humanity). Animals do not act like men. Animals do what they need to survive, yes, but only man goes out of their way just to hurt others. Lee threatens him that if he speaks to him out of turn again,he’ll rip out his tongue, that’s a promise. As Kevin goes next,Usnavi starts to talk quietly with Vanessa. Though very guarded she tells Usnavi about how Efrafa works. Those with certain marks go up for silflay at certain times, if you’re caught above ground at the wrong time, you get punished by the council, some even getting sentenced to death. They’ve tried all sorts of ways to escape to no avail;she thought that a buck named Ruben had finally been able to get away, but he was recaptured just a few days ago,and he did NOT look good. Usnavi tells her that they can figure out a way to escape,he’s sure of it. She tells him that it’s good he has hope, hopefully he won’t lose it…as she’s beginning to. It’s at this point they both notice Pete’s breathing is pretty shallow. He’s on the verge of a panic attack. Fighting the crows was one thing, running from the farmer’s bullets as well, but this? This was messed up! And they can’t do anything, they have to just let this freaky rabbit slice into them!? Usnavi tries to calm him down, telling him everything was going to be ok,they’re going to be fine. It begins to work, but then a soldier forces Usnavi away to receive his mark, causing Pete to begin to panic all over again. That’s when Vanessa steps in. She asks him his name again for clarification, and tells him to think about the things he likes, what makes him happy, and mimic her breathing, in and out. It begins to work at calming him as he thinks about running, carrots, art, hanging out with Sonny…. Vanessa encourages him to keep thinking of those things as it’s his turn. He’s able to keep calm thanks to Usnavi and Vanessa’s efforts, though the mark hurts like crazy. Usnavi,Pete, and Kevin all get put in the same group as Vanessa, their marks being very painful and still bleeding a little. As they settle down for the night, they talk quietly among themselves about any ideas for an escape, growing quiet whenever an Efrafan officer is nearby. As it gets later, they end up falling into a restless sleep. (So it ended up not being delayed because I had literally nothing to do yesterday so why not work on this? So we are getting into some more serious stuff at the moment, with some itty bitty pieces of fluff. I know Pete’s pretty brave but he’s still the youngest one there and I know if I was waiting for some wacko to slice me with a knife and I couldn’t do anything I’d be freaking out too. But, hey! Vanessa’s in the plot now!) *I know this is much longer than a plot summary that you might see,but I’m really trying to immerse you in it so you can see what the characters are going through and what they’re feeling, hope I’m doing it right. :-)

Ivan Jacobi's Grandfather
This character is so inconsequential that he only shows up for a few sentences in an in-universe memoir in Death of the Outsider, but the little glimpse we get is fascinating. Tell me more about this stubborn old man who moved into the family crypt and let his impressionable grandson sleep over among the skeletons. I want to hear his ancestor stories, the creepier the better.
Kirin Jindosh
My favorite antagonist from DH2! I'd love to hear more about his abominable creations, his alliance with Delilah, and what he got up in his brief studies at the Academy of Natural Philosophy. I ship him pretty hard with Emily, but I'm open to any pairing. (Note: I'm fine with mentioning or exploring his canon nonlethal fate, though I'd prefer it not be played for comedy.)
Billie Lurk
Of the Dishonored protagonists, Billie is my favorite. Someone, I can't find the source, once described her character arc as "atonement without redemption" -- I really like that. Death of the Outsider highlighted a intriguingly cocky streak of hers I hadn't noticed before, also (the things she says about the bank job!!).
I'd love to hear more about her years as a ship captain, the connections she built across the isles; her early years with Daud and the Whalers, how those relationships changed; and anything post-canon. Gen-wise, I really enjoy her interactions with Daud, Sokolov, and the Outsider, and I'd like to see how she didn't get along with Galia Fleet.
Ship-wise, I like her with Daud or any female character. Seriously -- Billie/Teresia Cienfuegos! Billie/Thalia Timsh! Billie/the surviving witch in the basement jail in that one mission of Death of the Outsider! Ooh, what about Billie/ghost!Deirdre? I am, as they say, just spitballing here. I also like Emily/Billie, Delilah/Billie, and Billie/Lizzy, for some less rare pairings. :-)

FANDOM - FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS
Dean Domino
Vengeful petty bastard. He was my favorite of the three companions in Dead Money, and the reveal at the end blindsided me. I really liked the atmosphere and story in Dead Money -- I'd love more about Dean Domino's pre-ghoul days, how he survived, and what it takes to sustain a grudge for centuries.
Mr. House
Everything about Mr. House and the Lucky 38 is fascinating to me. I'd love something about the years he spent waiting and planning, or the dynamic between him and a more evil or chaotic Courier.
Doctor Mobius
Old World Blues is my favorite DLC for this game, and I loved the showdown/reveal with Doctor Mobius! More roboscorpions, more ridiculous schemes, or interactions with the Courier and the other Big MT scientists and denizens would be great.
Stealth Suit Mk II
Why is the suit cute, and why won't she/it stop trying to give me Med-X? I'd love to hear more about this adorable sneaky suit and her/its relationship to her/its wearer. If you want to go to a shippy place there, please feel more than free.
Ulysses
So dramatic, so tragic, so vague at times. I really, really like his relationship with the Courier and the way it develops in Lonesome Road -- I ship them romantically, one-sided on Ulysses's part and reciprocated, but I also like their many possible dynamics as gen. (I have no preference on gender or alignment for the Courier -- feel free to write the character however you prefer.)
Ulysses strikes me as very lonely, and he seems to be finally feeling grief that he suppressed. I'd love something where the Courier rescues or comforts him, or where the possibility of being rescued/comforted occurs to him but is never actualized (PAIN). Alternately, interactions between Ulysses and any random character, the more unexpected the better, would be great, as would Ulysses solo gen about what he gets up to post-DLC.
Yes Man
My favorite amoral AI! His passive-aggression is hilarious, but I love that he's also genuinely scary. I'd enjoy hearing more about his origins and development, his dynamic with Benny, and his relationship with the Courier and anyone else he might encounter.

FANDOM - THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES
Adelard Dekker
Dekker is cool! I like that he's pragmatic and competent, not without a sense of humor, and somehow genuinely religious even in the world of TMA. I ship him with Gertrude, but I also enjoy them as friends. I'd love anything about his pre-canon adventures, origins, relationship with the Web, or interactions with unexpected characters.
Harriet Fairchild
An incredibly minor character (she shows up for a few lines in MAG 21, "Freefall"), but I'm so curious about her. What is her relationship to Simon Fairchild, and how did she become associated with the Vast?
Neil Lagorio
In-universe fictional media is one of my very favorite things, and I loved the episodes with Neil Lagorio. I'd enjoy hearing more about his filmography, strange experiences on his sets, criticism of his films, popular reception, or anything along those lines.
Peter Lukas
An unrepentant monster, and a terrible boss, but awkward and petty in enjoyably human ways. I would love to see how he interacts in a fish-out-of-water scenario, a meeting with other avatars, or a situation where he feels threatened. Seeing him interact with Gertrude would be fantastic. I ship him romantically with Martin, one-sided on Peter's part or grudgingly reciprocated, but I also really enjoy their gen interactions.
Original Statement Giver(s)
I'm always down for original statement fic, whether it's about an encounter with a specific entity or something more ambiguous. <3

FANDOM - STELLAR FIRMA
Bathin
We've heard so much about Bathin, but what is he really like, outside that one recording? I ship him with David and/or Trexel, but I'd also like to just hear about him.
Enola
Post-canon, what do they get up to aboard The Terpsichore's Vaunt? Vent gremlin to captain of a Star Puncher Class vessel must be a bit of a leap.
David 7
Poor David has been through so much. I'd love something about them post-canon, figuring out the wider universe beyond Stellar Firma, or a canon divergence AU from any point. Additionally, I think it could be fun to explore common fic tropes with them -- coffeeshop AU part 2, fake dating (which is also their first time doing anything dating-like?), arranged marriage because *handwave*, time travel or time loops.
I ship David with Bathin and/or Trexel, and with Trexel and Hartro in a triad, although I'm open to other pairings. Platonically, I like them with I.M.O.G.E.N., or meeting anyone outside the station.
With regard to David's gender and pronouns, I don't have a strong preference or headcanon -- please feel free to go with your favored interpretation.
Trexel Geistman
Trexel is my favorite. I enjoy the childish, silly side of his terrible self, but I also love it when canon decides to take his issues seriously. Please let him bumble around like a jackass making poor decisions, projecting onto those around him, and occasionally providing his own brand of "help" or insight.
I ship Trexel with just about everyone, but particularly David 7, Hartro, and/or Bathin. I really enjoy him as the pining party in a ship, whether his pining is one-sided or reciprocated. In general, though, I just really like Trexel.
For Halloween-related prompts, I'd love something with him as a horror host a la the Cryptkeeper, or maybe something with him encountering the ghosts of the Board or one of his more illustrious ancestors. Less Halloween-related, a Groundhog Day time loop AU with Trexel as the POV character could also be fun.
Hartro Piltz
Hartro is also my favorite. She's... god, she's ridiculous. I love her interest in the arts and her taste for Drama. I was really pleased with her transition from antagonist, to semi-frenemy, to antagonist again, and finally to tentative ally.
Ship-wise: I ship her super hard with Trexel and David as a triad and Trexel as a pairing, although I also love the three of them as a gen group. We haven't seen Hartro interact with a lot of other characters in canon; there are no other canon dynamics that ping me as particularly shippy, that "yum" from IMOGEN and the bit of flirting with Sigmund Shankeray notwithstanding. However, I am open to any pairing or gen interaction for her, including OCs. Seriously, please go for it! I just really like Hartro.
Promptwise: The last bit of bonus content, "No Love For Spies," involved impromptu scripted roleplay with Hartro, David, and Trexel. I'd love a scenario like that, but maybe shippy or awkwardly sexy (well, more awkwardly sexy than it already is, with evening-gown!Hartro lounging around on tables). I'd also enjoy something set pre-canon, something about her life outside of work during canon, or post-canon exploring how she gets along in a post-Stellar Firma universe.
Also, I realized I forgot to say so, but I opt into the foot thing. Lol.

FANDOM - WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS (TV)
Guillermo de la Cruz
I recently watched this series for the first time, and Guillermo is far and away my favorite. The way he compartmentalizes what he's been doing for the vampires, the repression, the hints of manipulativeness, and then the fact that he's just really cute -- he's great. I'm enjoying the slayer!Guillermo storyline and the sort of power reversal, or power redistribution, that's come about because of it.
I ship Guillermo/Nandor pretty hard, one-sided and reciprocated, but I'd also love Guillermo solo gen, friendship fic, or ensemble fic. For a Treat, canon-typical slice of life would be great, or something about what he gets up to on Halloween. For a Trick, perhaps he encounters a hostile vampire or other creature, defends or rescues the others, or himself needs to be rescued? Guillermo gets yanked around and disappointed so much in canon; I'd love something where, no matter what trials he is subjected to, the vampires come through for him in the end.

#7. The Lost City of Z
Tumblr media
“I will help you, because you will make sure that nothing will change,” says a plantation owner and rubber baron (Franco Nero) dressed in a fine white suit and fanned by a native slave, to Major Percival “Percy” Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam). The baron assumes that Fawcett's mapmaking expedition in the Amazon is meant to maintain the constancy of early 20th-century colonialism—of occupations that mitigate conflict through control. But in actuality, like Marion Cotillard's Ewa Cybulska in James Gray's earlier The Immigrant, Fawcett exists outside of the strictures of his time—a deliberate anachronism. The man's break from the era's accepted social norms, his belief in exploration as more than a means of exploitation, and his dreams of the future as a corrective for the past reflect both his repentance for an “unfortunate” ancestry (his father was a gambler and a drunk) and broadly represent emergent 20th-century modernism. Gray's opulent formalism channels Fawcett's delusions of grandeur, making for an intoxicating adventure film. And the director's typically bracing intelligence—employed here to examine the psychological toll of obsession, and the philosophical weight of understanding, and accepting, change—lends the narrative the scope and detail of a classical epic. Like The Immigrant, The Lost City of Z is about ideologies out of step from the present moment of the world they exist in, and is itself a film out of its own time.” ~ Mac
#6. Personal Shopper
Tumblr media
“Kristin Stewart shops, Olivier Assayas buys, and cinephiles everywhere throw away the receipt. Assayas's latest and potentially greatest indulgence in diva worship seems rigged to pin Stewart like a butterfly in cinematic isolation for as long as the apparatus can get away with it. Stewart stars (and rarely has the word “stars” felt so inadequate) as a spiritual medium moonlighting in Paris as a buyer for a hangry fashionista, and desperately trying to come into contact with her recently departed twin brother. Filmed in a sense like an exorcism of its leading player's own fame-making turns in pop-horror blockbusters, the stages of grief embodied throughout Personal Shopper are at once redolent of funereal urban ennui and wrapped too tight. By the time Stewart is spending the film's thrilling and entirely dialogue-free central act nervously trading texts with “Unknown Caller,” Assayas has encroached fully upon her space while depicting her, in every sense, alone. Not since Kyoshi Kurosawa's Pulse has a ghost story more closely replicated the anxiety of modern communication. And not since Vertigo has the act of dressing up felt so illicit.“~ Henderson
#5. Good Time
Tumblr media
“Manny Farber's conception of a film defined by “unkempt activity” often gets shortened to “termite art,” even though his full, original designation was “termite-tapeworm-fungus-moss art.” The unwieldy term seems precisely the point: Wild and ferocious, such a film wants to worm and rip its way through your viscera with little concern for the damage incurred. In Good Time, directors Josh and Benny Safdie tailor a shredding electronic score by Oneohtrix Point Never to energize the caustic, Christmas-set NYC tale of Connie Nikas (Robert Pattinson), an anti-Santa Claus who leeches his victims, including Nick (Benny Safdie), his mentally challenged brother, of their possessions and trust. Right from the devastating opening, in which Connie snatches Nick from a therapy session as the latter is on the verge of a breakthrough, the Safdies convey Connie's desperation not through backstory or exposition, but as a compulsory, breathless sprint toward destruction. A handful of African immigrants are caught in the crosshairs of Connie's mad dash of a day, with their professions and lives routinely jeopardized by his sociopathic behavior. The systemic danger of white-male anger, especially as it's informed by Connie's vaguely defined sense of personal injustice and self-righteousness, has rarely been represented in American cinema as an urgent public health hazard, with its noxious effects no different than the choking, billowing haze of an exploded dye pack.” ~ Clayton Dillard
