An ensemble sci-fi adventure about a team of scrappy smugglers who stumble into a major, galactic-spanning conspiracy involving the oppressive galactic regime that governs humanity and the aliens they went to war with. 

Who should be or is kissing? Anxious scientist-turned-medic Violet and Arkady Patel, a combat veteran with a complicated history... present... day-to-day, really.

All Bea Casely wanted was to make a true crime podcast about the infamous disappearance of actress Julie Capsom. But when her station is purchased by an eccentric billionaire, who insists on hiring disgraced cop Brenda Bentley as her co-host, Bea gets way more than she bargained for.

Who should be or is kissing? There are actually a fair few f/f couples across Arden’s two released seasons, particularly in season 2, but never have two people needed to just fuck already more than Bea and Brenda.

Amelia just moved back to the hometown she left for a reason and needs advice. Luckily, the dreamy, perfectly vintage midnight radio talk show hosted by Sybil McIntyre takes listener letters. Slowly we realize things aren’t all that they seem for Sybil, whose timeless aesthetic may have more sinister underpinnings. 

Who should be or is kissing? Sybil and Amelia, assuming a uh, massive spoiler gets resolved.

Interference 

D&D podcaster Jacq is recording her advice show when she accidentally makes radio contact with Geneva, an orc researcher based in the land of Chel. As portals begin to open between their worlds, the two must get to the bottom of what’s going on, and figure out their fledgling feelings for each other.

Who should be or is kissing? Jacq and Geneva are very cute from the jump. And who can blame Jacq for seeing the opportunity to smooch a hot trans orc lady and going for it?

A home healthcare worker begins attempting to reach the estranged granddaughter of the woman she is charged with looking after, and then things get really weird. (I find Mabel so very vexing to describe but expect strange, surreal horror with a dark romantic heart.)

Who should be or is kissing? Home health worker Ana Limon and Mabel Martin, whose whereabouts will not be spoiled by this tiny list.

Greenhouse

Rose’s dad just died, and his will states she must start writing letters to the owner of his favourite flower shop if she wants to continue living in their family home. Despite all this, romance blossoms as she and her new penpal slowly get to know each other.

Who should be or is kissing? Rose and Abby, the owner of the flower shop, who build an mutual understanding around being anxious as hell, weird about media and needing to go to therapy pretty badly.

Alice isn’t Dead

Alice isn’t dead, which is news to her wife. Working as a truck driver for an increasingly strange company, Keisha crosses the country to track her down and uncovers a dark secret lurking along America’s highways in the process.

Who should be or is kissing? Alice and Keisha have a, uh, complicated relationships to say the least but you can’t argue there isn’t something interesting there.

Post Malone’s Just-Released Album Has Already Shattered Streaming Records.

Post Malone’s recently released his sophomore album Beerbongs & Bentleys, though it has only been out for a week, it’s already making history and raising the bar, at least when it comes to numbers (McIntyre, 2018).

Swedish streaming service Spotify, congratulated the hip-hop musician on Twitter by revealing he had broken a pair of important records on the platform after one day of it being available. According to the company’s tweet, Beerbongs & Bentleys destroyed the record for the most streams of the songs on an album in the US, as all 18 tracks were played almost 48 million times (47,930,039, to be exact) in the United States alone (McIntyre, 2018), when you add on the streams from the around the world, the featured songs raked in a whopping 78,744,778 plays, in just the first day of the albums availability, if that doesn’t impress you, I don’t know what will.

The top three songs featured on Beerbongs & Bentleys rank as Malone's most popular on Spotify, with former eight-week No. 1 smash "Rockstar" leading the way with almost 970 million plays (McIntyre, 2018). Number one being Psycho with 323, 779, 840 plays with Better Now and Paranoid following with less plays, an average of 30 million plays each. Though psycho was released before the album, hence the playing difference. Beerbongs & Bentleys seems to be unbeatable as the days passed with him gaining even more streams, which is already eligible for gold certification in the US, when it comes to the charts (McIntyre).  

J. Cole had previously set the Spotify record for first-day streaming numbers, gathering 36,656,086 plays but, when Beerbongs & Bentleys released, it shattered the record by amassing over 10 million more streams (Zidel, 2018) which is again, extremely impressive.

With a Billboard number 1 spot basically guaranteed for Post on the album charts, it is being reported that he will have the most successful debut in 2018. This would mark the largest first-week numbers for any release this year, notching another massive achievement for Post under his belt (Zidel, 2018) and he isn’t stopping anytime soon.

Brief Australian History - The Eureka Stockade (Gold Rush)

Well! I’m procrastinating, and am going down to Sovereign Hill next week, and knowing it’s been brought up on my feed recently, I felt compelled to educate a little today on the Eureka Stockade. Forgive me as a lot of my knowledge is aged and coming from text books I have from school. But, it’s an interesting thing and if I bore you, I pray you look it up elsewhere and it won’t. The Eureka Stockade is an important part of Australian history, and is strongly symbolised in our pop culture.

Background Information… First findings of gold was discovered in Clunes, Victoria in 1850. The excitement travelled, and by August the rush had spread into Ballarat, where Yule’s Diggings was situated. It then spread a month later into Castlemaine and Bendigo. The goldfields within Ballarat proved to be profitable, and it’s stated that Lieutenant-Governor Charles La Trobe, the first of Victoria and whom of which La Trobe University in Melbourne is named after, witnessed men uncover over a hundred ounces of gold within a single day.

This new influx of immigration into Australia created a significant change between the initial colonies, specifically convict colonies. They progressed into being their own towns and cities. The population within Australia raised in a space of 20 years from 430,000 to 1.7 Million, and this is where Australia’s infamous multiculturalism began, but also the traits of racism within Australian culture was introduced. In particular, there was a huge rift between Australians and the Chinese. The Japanese pearl divers up in Queensland weren’t treated with such distain although held for their labour the same way Aborigines were, yet they weren’t deemed the same way the Chinese were when arriving upon the gold fields. The Chinese immigrants’ unique, and non-European techniques and differential appearances led Australians to being greatly unsettled in what is quoted as the fear of the unknown.

In 1855, over 11,000 Chinese immigrants made their way through to the goldmines through Melbourne. These led to many violent anti-Chinese protests that took place in numerous sections of the gold mines. This led to Victoria enforcing the Chinese Immigration Act of 1855, which limited Chinese passengers per 10 tons. It didn’t work as well as hoped by those enforcing the law, as Chinese immigrants made their way through South Australia onto the lands anyways. (Australia’s a bit well known for their white-only policies.)

This brings us to the beloved Eureka Stockade of 1854, which occurred on the 3rd of December. The Eureka Stockade was a rebellion started by gold miners against the English authority over the rise of the mining license.

In August 1851, Lieutenant-Governor La Trobe had installed a mining free of 30 Shillings that would start on September 1st that same year. The first protest, consisting of around 50 men, was held on the 26th against this new fee, that only raised from there on. A statement announced in December of that year announced there was to be a raise on the fee, from 1 Pound to 3 Pounds and would be effective as of the 1st of January 1852. In reaction, the miners around Ballarat had started arming themselves in spite, and the initial plan was there forth wavered. In 1853, there was permission granted for personnel to search an owner for their license, which were as frequent as a couple times per week. Bendigo and Ballarat miners reacted to this unsettlement, as well as strict laws on liquor, with threats of violent rebellion.

Further unrest was confirmed when Scottish miner James Scobie was murdered outside the Bentley Hotel in Ballarat after breaking a window and being hunted down and murdered with an axe. Despite all the evidence poured by eyewitnesses, the Supreme Court found bar owner James Bentley and his staff innocent, and angered Ballarat miners further - They took matters in their own hands, and burnt down Bentley Hotel. More soldiers were sent to Melbourne, inspections were increased, and the rumours of a drummer boys murder had resulted in miners rioting back against the reinforcement.

In result, soldiers increasingly arrested more members of the community. In relation to the burning of Bentley Hotel, Thomas Fletcher, Andrew McIntyre and Henry Westerly were sentenced to jail for up to 6 months of imprisonment, which was resented amongst the miners - who met up together in a mass of 4,000 attendees, and established a group to protect their rights, known as the ‘Diggers Rights Society.’ On Bakery Hill, (situated in front of government establishment,) another meeting was called on November 1st with 3,000 miners in attendance over the arrest of another 7 thousand miners in relation to the fire. 10 days later, shit got real when 10,000 miners gathered upon the same hill, where John Basson Humffray created the Ballarat Reform League. He recycled principles set out by the British Chartist movement, of which he was a member of. They all agreed upon the right as man to have a voice in the laws being created, and swore to remove themselves from the United Kingdom if the current ordeal wasn’t solved. They wished to negotiate with the Governor of Victoria, Sir Charles Hotham, over the jailing’s of men related to the Bentley riot, and the injustice of James Scobie’s death. They also stressed the removal of gold commissions, the mining license, and a democratic representation on the fields. Sir Charles Gotham reviewed these situations and appointed a Royal Commission, but Commissioner Rede reacted with an increase of soldiers and called in more reinforcement from the city of Melbourne.

On November 28, soldiers marching in from Melbourne were lynched by a group of miners. The rumour of drummer boy John Egan’s death began with this group attack, although he wasn’t actually murdered but instead shot in the thigh. It is said that a soldier who had died within an Benevolent Asylum claimed that a man of dark complexion had murdered their drummer boy with a stone - likely accusing an Aborigine - but this settlement of the drummer boys demise was laid upon the concept that, these men weren’t worth credibility nor equal rights.

The next day around 12,000 miners agreed upon open resistance, starting with a public burning of the licenses. Following that, Commissioner Rede had ordered a new check - knowing full well that men had burnt theirs - and eight different miners were arrested. A vast majority of the military personnel employed had to escort the arresting officers from a mob.

Feeling they weren’t being represented enough, the Ballarat Reform League appointed Peter Lalor. They settled with a military-based structure, featuring significant roles such as captains. More licenses were burnt, and on the 1st of December, the miners held a meeting and swore an oath around a newly constructed flag, where they swore allegiance to the Southern Cross and to stand for their rights. The Eureka Flag, claimed to have been designed by a Canadian miner, was then flown. The flag was said to have been risen at 11 o'clock, and was considered at the time as the Australian Flag by the community.

During December 2nd, discourse was caused upon Vinegar Hill with claims that the Union Jack had to be flown underneath the new flag, with miners protesting their rights as British men. I’m touching on this briefly, as I do not know the accuracy of this event.  The same day, a group of 200 American men under the leadership of James McGill arrived carrying weaponry such as revolvers and Mexican knives, and provided horses. These men were known as the Independent Californian Rangers, and were led to interfere with a rumoured set of British reinforcements. They were followed by men commissioned by Commissioner Rede, and when these men were convinced that no military forces were to be sent and returned to their tents for the night, the spies reported their findings back to Rede.

At 3am on a Sunday morning, 276 soldiers stormed upon the shabbily made Stockade that had been crafted over a short period of time and wasn’t thought to be used in military pursuits. A war broke out immediately.

It was vastly violent, and wasn’t a fair fight by any means. There’s no direct knowledge on whom actually shot first, but the blood certainly spilt. Women were said to have laid over injured men to prevent any more death, Canadian 'Captain’ Henry Ross was shot dead - a notable figure whom had requested the construction of the flag  - and Peter Lalor was hidden and had his arm amputated after being shot in his left arm. 34 men were said to have been casualties, and 22 had passed away - including, for some reason frequently noted, Prussian Lemonade seller and leader Edward Thonen. The flag was removed by police mid-battle. Captain Charles Pasley, absolutely disgusted by the carnage of the men, saved a few prisoners by threatening the lives of any policemen or soldiers whom continued to kill anymore. Amongst the prisoners held were 114 miners, who were held in a barn.

Peter Lalor, the Irish Australian man who had escaped, said “There are two things connected with the late outbreak (at Eureka) which I deeply regret. The first is, that we shouldn’t have been forced to take up arms at all; and the second is, that when we were compelled to take the field in our own defence, we were unable to inflict on the real authors of the outbreak the punishment they so richly deserved.”

Commissioner Rede ruled the mine fields here on out with an iron fist, and Peter Lalor returned to Ballarat and was elected unopposed in 1855. He stood against democracy, asking the Legislative Council in 1856 and asked the council their views, “Do they mean Chartism or Republicanism? … I am not now, nor do I ever intend to be a democrat. But if a democrat means opposition to a tyrannical press, a tyrannical people, or a tyrannical government, then I have been, I am still, and will ever remain a democrat.”

The Eureka Stockade is a tale of man fighting, the unity of so many backgrounds… save for the Chinese, and the absolute carnage man can cause. Australian’s love their criminals, love their rebellions - and trust me I’ll write a piece on Ned Kelly when I get around to it - but the Eureka Stockade is a tale of resistance and want for representation. The strength of the women is a fantastic thing to analyse if you ever want too. The Eureka Stockade is mentioned in a lot of press, Melbourne’s well known 'Eureka Tower’ was designed solely off the concept of the Eureka flag. If you visit Australia, or come down by Melbourne, the car trip north to Sovereign Hill is a historical trip back in time worth it.

ACC Announces Fall 2016 Dean's and Merit List

Alvin Community College recognized students for making the Fall 2016 Dean’s and Merit Lists during a reception on February 13.

To be eligible for the Dean’s list students must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average for 12 or more credit hours in a semester and no course with a grade lower than a C. To be eligible for the Merit List, a student must have 7 – 11 college-level semester hours during a semester with a minimum 3.5 GPA with no F or incomplete. College-level courses exclude credit-by-exam, nontraditional, transfer, or developmental courses.

Lotus has just appointed David McIntyre as its regional director for Asia Pacific and China, with hopes of creating a strong and comprehensive retail network across these markets. The British carmaker, now under the stewardship of Geely, has set in motion its plans to achieve significant growth on a global level.

McIntyre will be based in Hangzhou, China, and is tasked to grow and strengthen the brand’s regional sales, marketing and aftersales team, all of which will result in improved volume growth and customer service.

He brings with him 25 years of experience in the luxury and performance cars, with leading roles in Germany, Latin America and the UK, working for brands such as Porsche, Aston Martin, Bentley and McLaren. For the last 15 years he has worked in the Asia Pacific region, including periods in South Korea and China.

Outside of work, McIntyre’s passion is in motorsports. He was the 2017 China GT amateur champion in GT4 racing and the following year was runner-up in the 2018 China GT series. Sounds like the right man for the right job, no? His other interests include yacht-racing and learning to fly.

Roy Moore Defeats Trump’s Pick, Luther Strange, in GOP’s Alabama Senate Runoff (Race of the Day)

Challenger Roy Moore soundly defeated incumbent Luther Strange in Tuesday’s runoff to choose the Republican nominee in Alabama’s U.S. Senate race.

With all precincts reporting after 11 p.m., Moore had 54.6 percent or 262,204 votes and Strange had 45.4 percent or 218,066 votes. The Associated Press called the race when results from about half the 2,286 precincts were in.

“Republican voters know who a person of principle is,” Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder of Tea Party Patriots, told The Daily Signal in a pre-election interview predicting a victory for Moore, former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.

Moore will face Democrat Doug Jones in the Dec. 12 special election for the Senate seat vacated by Republican Jeff Sessions when he became attorney general in the Trump administration.

President Donald Trump had endorsed Strange, whom he considered loyal to his priorities.

Trump tweeted congratulations to Moore late Tuesday night:

“From the beginning of this campaign, my priority has been serving the people of Alabama,” Strange, the state’s former attorney general, said in a written concession statement. “Tomorrow, I will go back to work with President Trump and do all I can to advance his agenda over the next few weeks.”

In victory remarks in which he characteristically evoked faith in God, Moore said:

Together we can make America great. We can support the president. Don’t let anybody in the press think that because [Trump] supported my opponent I do not support him and support his agenda. As long as it’s constitutional, as long as it advances our society, our culture, our country, I will be supportive. … But we have to return the knowledge of God and the Constitution of the United States to the United States Congress.

The runoff Tuesday was set up when neither Strange nor Moore garnered 50 percent of the vote in a 10-candidate primary Aug. 15.  (Moore got 40 percent to Strange’s 33 percent, while Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., finished third with 20 percent.)

Republicans seek to preserve their slim 52-seat majority in the 100-seat Senate.

Democrats’ nominee Jones, 63, is a lawyer and former U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Alabama appointed by President Bill Clinton. His campaign platform includes health care reform, environmental protections, civil rights, and criminal justice reform.

On  Feb. 9, then-Gov. Robert Bentley appointed Strange to the seat vacated when the Senate confirmed one of its own, Sessions, as attorney general.

Trump endorsed and stumped for Strange, but also said at a rally Friday night in Huntsville, Alabama, that he would work “like hell” to elect Moore should the challenger prevail.

“I might have made a mistake,” Trump said at one point. “I’ll be honest, I might have made a mistake.”

But the president added: “Luther [Strange] will definitely win.”

In the runoff, Moore, 70, presented himself as the true conservative, while Strange, 64, batted away accusations that he is too establishment. Moore had led in polls, but Strange appeared to be closing the gap.

Andrew Roth, vice president of government affairs at the Club for Growth, predicted in an interview with The Daily Signal that the runoff would be a bellwether for how state voters view progress in Congress.

“The way I view this race is that it’s more of an establishment versus anti-establishment race,” Roth said. “The issues, conservative or not, didn’t really play in this. The race is more about what voters want out of Congress and out of the Senate.”

Vice President Mike Pence, a former congressman from Indiana as well as that state’s governor, also endorsed Strange.

“Our president needs Luther Strange back in the United States Senate so he can finish the job,” Pence said Monday night at a rally at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. “I know Sen. Luther Strange will be there for our president, because he’s already been there.”

The Washington Examiner and other news outlets reported that the Senate Leadership Fund, a political action committee tied to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., filled Alabama’s TV and radio airwaves with millions of dollars worth of ads backing Strange and attacking Moore.

Moore’s high-profile supporters include Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential candidate, as well as former Trump White House aides Steve Bannon and Sebastian Gorka.

“A vote for Judge Moore isn’t a vote against the president,” Palin said Thursday night, adding:

It is a vote for the people’s agenda that elected the president. It’s for the big, beautiful movement that we’re all a part of. The president needs support to keep the promises that elected him. So we’re sending Trump someone who has our back, not Mitch McConnell’s … Make no mistake, ‘Big Luther’ is Mitch McConnell’s guy.

“While we were honored to have fought hard for Big Luther, Judge Roy Moore won this nomination fair and square and he has our support, as it is vital that we keep this seat in Republican hands,” the Senate Leadership Fund said in a formal acknowledgement of Strange’s loss Tuesday night.

Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, came out Monday in support of Moore.

“A Judge Moore win really would make sure that the Trump agenda gets implemented,” Meadows told Breitbart News, adding:

There’s all kinds of members of Congress and senators who will run, and they really run so incredibly strong like they have a backbone of steel, but they really have a backbone of a banana. You know, when it’s peeled back, it gets real mushy when they get to Washington, D.C. So we need to give them some steel. Judge Roy Moore has a backbone of steel.

Trump won Alabama in November with 62 percent of the vote.

Moore is perhaps best known for being removed twice as Alabama’s chief justice, first in 2003 for refusing to take down a Ten Commandments monument and again in 2016, after his re-election, for ordering judges not to issue licenses for same-sex marriages.

Moore’s campaign platform included support for limited government, immigration reform, a border wall, energy independence, and the military.

The Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund also endorsed Moore.

Martin, the Tea Party Patriots co-founder, told The Daily Signal before the polls opened that by choosing Moore, GOP voters would be “sending a message to Washington that they want someone they can count on to stick to their principles.”

A victory for Strange, she said, would be on account of Trump.

“Given President Trump’s endorsement, people in Alabama will think that Strange will support the president’s agenda,” Martin said.

The GOP runoff was a product of voter frustration with the status quo, the Club for Growth’s Roth said.

“The dysfunction in Washington has been around for so long that maybe, finally the voters have finally had enough,” Roth said, adding:

You certainly saw them express that in November when Trump won [and] you’re going to continue to see the voters express their anger until they get things fixed.
