Una noche de obscuridad alemana en Monterrey

Elementos en la escenografía que recordaban a los asistentes las características que hacen del black uno de los géneros del metal más obscuros, su sentido infame de protesta contra el dogma, la increíble personalidad de los músicos arriba del escenario, el juego de luces, el blast de la batería que se hace presente como protagonista en muchos momentos de la noche y el caótico sonido de los fans que seguían el místico sonido de la guitarra de “Haunting Season”, del álbum Prosatanica Shooting Angels.

Un inicio estrujante que te hace sentir como un soldado a punto de entrar a una sanguinaria batalla, y la estridente fuerza de la poderosa batería de “Agony”, fueron los que nos dieron la bienvenida a un viaje por la oscuridad alemana de Nargaroth en Monterrey.

La escena del metal en Monterrey se vio ampliamente complacida la pasada noche del 22 de febrero al recibir a Nargaroth en la ciudad. El evento realizado en uno de los centros, cuna del rock en sus muchas manifestaciones, el Café Iguana, le recordó a los regios el porqué el blackmetal tiene una influencia bestial en el ánimo de los fans.

La banda de origen alemán, liderada por René Wagner aka. “Ash”, desde 1996 hasta el día de hoy, con sus múltiples alineaciones, ha realizado álbumes y producciones con la influencia de otras bandas poderosas de su generación. Su fundación ocurrió durante la oleada noventera del black metal noruego, por lo que pueden verse reflejados algunos matices de su vecina escandinavia en su estilo. Más allá de pertenecer o no a la ideología del Inner Circle, Nargaroth demuestra que puede dar “clases” sobre el black metal de culto.

Durante el 2018, Nargaroth realiza una gira por toda latinoamérica en conjunto con otro exponente del black metal, Belphegor (Austria). Las primeras fechas programadas para los alemanes fueron en nuestro país, extendiendo su tour (realizado en solitario por México) por ciudades como Durango, Guadalajara, CDMX, Tampico y San Luis Potosí. Queda la esperanza de que pronto decidan volver, ahora sí con Belphegor como parte del show.

Sin embargo, debo decir que no necesitan de otra banda que contribuya al line-up, ya que su repertorio, la pasada noche habló, o más bien, rugió por sí solo.

En particular, debo admitir que la mirada de Dominic, el guitarrista líder, clavada en un lugar, y en ninguno a la vez en el vacío, convertían sus ojos en dos agujeros negros, complementando la atmósfera perfecta para la crudeza de los acordes, los cuales ganaron mucho protagonismo en “Possessed by black fucking metal”, penúltimo tema de la noche con respuesta majestuosa del público, ya que con diversos toques de punk rock de antaño en la batería, la gente rompió una regla peculiar para los blackers. “El black metal no se moshea”

Nargaroth no descuidó a los fans fervientes seguidores de los “aspectos tradicionales” del black metal. Aunque no incluyeran un tema característico de su trayectoria como Black metal is Krieg, continúan siendo poseedores de los aspectos particulares de esas melodías, esos que evocan la sensación de encontrarse en una misa negra, invocando a la entidad más maligna que existe, pero realmente lo que se invoca, en este ritual hecho concierto, es la energía de cada uno de los asistentes y el simple placer de disfrutar el espectáculo de una de las bandas que conserva el respeto por su sonido en la mayoría de sus producciones; al menos eso deja notar en el segundo tema de la noche, “Whither Goest Thou”, del Era of Threnody, su último álbum lanzado en 2017.

Pocos tienen la destreza y sutileza de saber embonar una guitarra acústica con la rebelión de un growl blackmetalero y Nargaroth tiene esa habilidad.

Como cualquier comunión, el cierre debe de ser memorable y regresando de una esperada falsa despedida, Ash desgarró las gargantas de los fans al dar el anuncio de su última tema, “Seven tears are flowing to the river”. Por supuesto uno trata de hacer lo posible por corear lo que se puede.

Lo sorprendente de este tema es la armonía que lleva la primer nota de guitarra acústica que escuchas, después el doble bombo que se convierte en un maestro de ceremonias, dando entrada a la especie de “puñetazo” al pecho de la composición de la guitarra. Un lamento necesario y liberador, así podría definirse este espectáculo.

Definitivamente un montaña rusa de emociones, que está lejos de dejar un mal sabor de boca, y mucho más lejos de poder compararlos con bandas de su género o sonidos de años anteriores como Mayhem. Nargaroth en Monterrey y varias ciudades de la República es un definitivo acierto para Chamuco Productions y su apuesta por promover y proveer a la escena metalera de conciertos como estos.

Si eres de Perú, Chile, Brasil, Bolivia o Colombia, mi mejor recomendación para darte un viaje por la magia obscura alemana, es ir a verlos.
