Incorporating certain designs is challenging- Luckily regional forms are a thing now 😁. Since these are the #beta versions of #Johto #Pokemon, I decided that this is what they would have looked like in the games before #pokemongoldandsilver so #kantonian #regionalform Pokemon are here! I also came up with a new effect that the move “Sunny Day” will have when used by certain Pokémon (more to come). Lastly, in the case of #chikorita and #quilava here, the changes are too small for another form but to different to ignore. So gender variant Pokemon will also be featured a lot in this dex. For example the female quilava here has round ears, black fur on its arms and would have totally red eyes if this was colored.

For each of these Beta Pokemon, my goal was to name them after their post-Beta versions: Aqaromerus reflects the unique conventions of Feraligatr’s name, dropping an otherwise-essential vowel. (Merus is also a common suffix in plesiosaur names.) Cyndakoal is fairly straightforward. I don’t really like the name but it does a good job of combining bear theme (koala) with fire theme (coal) while also referring forward to Cyndaquil. And Baeleaf is just adorable, so bae it is.

Baeleaf provides a mixed bag of buffs and debuffs, also conferring an immunity to status tokens. As its design implies, being active with Baeleaf sorta paints an enormous target on its chest. But this little flower pixie is solid for the cost.

Aqaromerus requires dedicated terrain choices* but is otherwise amazing. It brings a lot to a team properly built around it: mobility, ranged and area attacks, curing, healing.

*Before each battle, all players have an opportunity to add different terrain pieces to the map. This enables teams reliant on water (or lava, or desert, or rocks, etc.) to always have the terrain they need.

I’ve never really considered myself a beta pokemon fan artist but here we are again 🤣. It’s beta dex time!!! Would you have liked these starters?! Long intro below:

About a month ago the #spaceworld1999 demo & another (Korean) #pokemongoldandsilver beta leaked. Unfortunately, everyone started deleting posts related to these leaks due to Nintendo ninjas going after people. This got me thinking- there’s still a way to see them! We’ve gotten so many #lostpokemon between gen’s 1 &2 and I for one would love to see art for ALL of them as if they were released in their respective gens. So this is the 1st image in my new project that is a reimagining of sorts, of cut #Pokémon integrated into the official dex. I’m starting with #pokemongeneration2 cause that’s where the bulk of the #pokemonbeta mons are.

The plan started as small sketches turned pen & ink but it’s been evolving (pun always intended), as I hope to compile them, color them, and present a full dex!

My 1 disclaimer is that this is how I have personally interpreted them- while staying as close to the source material as possible.And I’m doing my best to get every form and #unreleasedpokemon in- while being as logical and practical as possible. So you may not totally agree with what I come up with but at the very least every mon will be represented! I will share my thought process in each post.

Up 1st are the Gen 2 beta #starterpokemon .To be brief, you’ve probably seen most of them before. Note worthy changes are to the grass line being a mix of a beta sunkern, a new closed plant mon and a repurposed beta Bayleef who ended up having ties to surkern in the recent #pokemonleaks .I just think they fit well together. I also mixed multiple similar sprites and old concept art together for #honoguma and volbear. Lastly, the Cruz line is 1 of my absolute favorite cut bets lines. I wish so badly that they were real.
