bokuto koutaro x fem!reader
Tumblr media
There’s a little glimmer in Konoha’s eyes— but he’s quick to swallow his laugh. “So you’re telling me there’s no you and Bo?” he confirms, thin brow raising high on his visage to almost comical effect.
“There’s no me and Bo!” you quickly say back, trying not to laugh too when the gray haired man’s pretty eyes flick up to meet you. Bokuto’s talking, his loud voice raising the energy in the room to a peak, and you happily watch how he lights up everything around you. There’s so much happiness in his smile, and the way he carries himself, but it’s unmatched by the way he looks when he’s looking at you.
It’s only when you feel the full force of Bokuto Koutaro that you can truly, deeply appreciate him. And the force of nature he becomes when he’s in his element.
“I love him like a friend! But… I’m happy right now. I don’t want to ruin an amazing friendship for something more.” You admit it all while watching him wave his hands around while talking, brighter than anything else in the room. “He knows! I’ve told him.” As if always sensing your eyes on him, he stares back at you for a second, before his cheeks pull up even more and he scrunches his nose your way. And the ashy blond by your side slowly takes a sip from his drink, until you look back at him.
“Did Bokuto retain that info? Because…” he trails off, and shakes his head. You continue to look at your mutual friend for what feels like a while, as he slurps the coke through his straw with an unneeded amount of noise.
+
“Thank you so much,” your voice barely travels loud enough for the bartender to smile, watching you carry the plate all the way towards the table. Koutaro had thrown the biggest fuss when you so much as suggested staying home tonight, and- you don’t often have the heart to tell him no. Your best friend is splayed out in dramatic fashion over the tables of your booth by the time you make it back— full ‘woe is me’ as he’s about to break the tables under his weight. Something Akaashi is clearly doing his best to avoid, with the white-knuckled grip on the edge of the furniture as he sends you a desperate glance.
“Bo, you’re going to break it,” you just give them a little shake of your head, but it’s enough to have the silver haired giant perking up and looking over his shoulder for you. It’s a surprise even to you that he even heard you over the noise— less of a surprise when he’s picking the plate out of your hands before you can place it down and shoves the thing in front of Atsumu’s nose, and grabs your arm to pull you into his side.
“There’s my favorite girl! Don’t run off without me, I miss you,” he pouts down your way, and you can’t help but wonder how it’s possible that a muscled, grown man like Bokuto is as childishly needy as he is tall. And he is very tall. Despite it though, you’ve only ever known him to be gentle and kind to everyone and everything, a bundle of sunshine on two very muscular legs, and a massive pushover for- well, you. You met Bokuto when you got paired up with Akaashi on a final project— stressed to hell under last year of high school pressure. Keiji was the hardworking, quiet type; and finding Bokuto attached to your hip afterwards was just kind of par for the course.
It didn’t shock you when the light-haired, boyish extrovert took a liking to you— as the type of guy to see the good in everyone. It does still shock you a little that years later, he’s the one claiming the title of your best friend. Even with all the unbridled chaos he carries with him. The -lock pinkies and tell secrets in the dark- type best friend.
Atsumu takes a quick glance your way before holding out a shot toward you, and grins. “Yer goin’ first, aintcha? How’s about ya try outdoin’ Bokkun or Omi Omi for once. C’mere, I’ll make sure ya don’t have to hang out with that sap all night.” It’s just a joke, you know Atsumu well enough by now to know so, but an arm tightens around your waist.
Koutaro’s leaning into your body but staring down at his years-long teammate with a silence uncharacteristic of the tall spiker. His big eyes narrow the slightest bit as the uncomfortable void grows thick. Atsumu isn't even looking, already prompting others to take their own shots in the short time it took for him to get more than tipsy, with a healthy flush and lidded eyes. But you are looking, and it’s strange enough for you to give him a questioning frown over your shoulder.
“Bo?” He doesn’t say anything. “Earth to Bokuto?” you try again, attempting to laugh it off. There’s a thoughtful sort of glaze over his eyes before he grabs your cheeks in his hand and makes you look up at him.
Bokuto’s always been touchy. It’s a fact you had to get used to extremely quickly, when on only your third time meeting, he’d flung his arms over your shoulders and kissed you, backing you against a wall right in the middle of the very busy halls. It had taken Akaashi a lot of back and forth explaining to fix that one, but you like to think you became better friends despite it all. It was forgiven a long time ago. But the way he holds you now, no enthusiasm boiling over, or as much as a smile, feels off. “Don’t listen to him. Don’t drink like that tonight.” The serious tone in his voice throws you off even more, and you roll your eyes.
“Why not? It’s the weekend- We’re with friends.” Whatever he hears in your voice makes his brows tense more. And it makes you mutter softer, “Neither of us are driving either.”
He licks his lips with a strange sort of disdain. You can’t quite place where you’ve seen this version of Bokuto before, but it makes you feel a bit apprehensive, and you say his name again. This time he nods, and even puts on a smile; though it doesn’t reach past his cheeks. “Why get wasted when we can do that any other time, though? I wanna have a good time with you. And I can’t enjoy myself when I constantly have to search the dance floor for you- or check which freak is hitting on you, or trying to do something— You know you become so defenseless.” His voice gets pouty and exasperated quick, and you know he probably doesn’t get that what he’s saying might be hurtful.
It’s fine. This is Bokuto Koutaro, the guy who spent three whole years using every single free opportunity to impress you with his thoughtfulness, and to get you to admit he really was ‘your favorite person’. Even kittens have their claws, so it’s fine. “I’m not planning on getting wasted— and even if I did, I’m a grown woman.” He opens his mouth to talk more, but you’re quick to cut him off by taking his hand and squeezing his fingers with a softer sigh. “I appreciate your worry, Bo, but I’m allowed to have fun.” You expect that to be the end of it.
Bokuto is good at pushing boundaries, but he’s also softer with you. Always was so willing to listen. So you are more than a little shocked when he doesn’t settle down, getting more up into your face instead by staring down with a scorching fire in his eyes.
“No, you can’t. Not when they’re around,” Koutaro harshly replies, low in volume. You slowly brush his hand away to look back at Atsumu for support. The blond surely didn’t hear what was just said, but you’re not sure you’re comfortable with what it’s implying. If it’s implying anything at all— and you look back at your friend with more confusion. But before you have the chance to ask, Kuroo Tetsuro, mutual high school acquaintance and ever the disrupter of the peace, chimes in with a loud cheer and swoops you up into his arms to slam two whole shots down before you with a grin.
“Chug ‘em, or you have to get up on stage with me.” Bokuto’s face fades from your view with Kuroo’s exuberance, the light in his tone instantly calming your anxiety. You don’t want to fight with your best friend over nothing, your thoughts quickly chant, and Kuroo’s a great way to pick your mood back up. “That strip pole is calling our names.” You snort as he slides the glasses even closer, dragging out the scraping noise, and forget about the weird interaction almost as soon as it came.
+
You’re just being friendly. Bokuto knows this, knows you’re inherently, deeply wired with the ability to make it seem like the person you’re talking to is the most interesting thing you’ve laid eyes on all day. And sure, it definitely wasn’t the first thing he noticed— that probably would have been the way your eyes glistened like two fire beacons with those long, long lashes aimed at him, and then your fine fucking body; he’s a healthy, young-blooded man after all —but it was definitely a prominent factor. Despite your quiet, reserved nature, he’d been glowing coming off of the first time talking to you, like everything he was saying was just so… interesting.
It’s a stretch to call you naïve, because you’re not. You’re smart, like Akaashi is, and you managed to pull the two of them through the disaster of a final assignment upon just meeting them. But there’s something in your smile, in the way you look at the world through wide, inviting eyes that seems to beg for his attention. It makes him want to squeeze you and never let you go, if he’s being honest. He knows he’s supposed to take it slower, knows that for all your kindness, you’re not one to rush into things.
But he’s been more than patient in his eyes, and because of it, you’re now staring up at Kuroo with those pretty giggles and nods that sure as fuck made him fall head over heels for you. He’s not unreasonable. He cares about you enough to allow his friends to get near. He’s trying, truly! But Kuroo’s arm around your waist is a bit too much, blood boiling as he balls his fists so tight his knuckles turn white. The instinct to land his fist straight into Kuroo’s teeth is pushed down with a deep breath, before he wipes those sweaty palms on his pants and makes his way to you with a plastered-on smile. It falters only a little when you look up as he calls your name, and it makes his stomach tie into tight knots.
You’re so fucking good, so pretty, so— perfect; it’s really no wonder everyone else tries to cut in. If he didn’t always feel like his heart was about to swallow him up, he’d understand. You’re magnetic, a vision of his future. If he loved you any less, he might’ve already beaten Kuroo’s face bloody. He likes the guy a whole bunch, but not enough to give you up. He can only dream that you feel the same.
That you think of him when you fall asleep, when you wake up, when you glide your dainty hand into your panties and rub— “Hey, Bo,” you smile at him, before giving him a poke in the chest. It’s an adorable display of how drunk you’re getting, and he has to fight back the glare he longs to send Kuroo for getting you this far in the first place. What if he wasn’t around, if he was preoccupied and hadn’t been watching you like a hawk all evening? But then you lean in a little grin. “Came to find me?”
Of course he did, his mind chants while taking your hand in his, he’d fucking chain himself to your side if you’d allow it. He doesn’t need to say that for it to be clear to anyone watching, right? You’re teasing. So he just pats your head, and pushes himself between you and Kuroo against the wall. “You ran off without me,” his pout is back, and you give a soft ‘sorry’.
“I was going to give ‘er back, Bo,” Kuroo chants to his side, but he doesn’t waste a second looking over. If he does, he still might plant his fist into his face— and you’d get upset with him. And he’d rather hurt anyone who so much as looks at you and then himself than have you upset with him; he really does love you a whole lot, you know? There’s other ways to get you out of here— and you are so very sweet to him when he plays it off. Something about a taxi and an incoming storm is enough to have you collecting your stuff and waving everyone goodnight, letting Kuroo squeeze you in a hug much too long for his liking.
He must show it on his face, because Akaashi’s dark, questioning eyes meet his; and he takes that as the sign to get out of there. He’s getting antsier by the second. And can’t help but get handsy, wrapping his arm around your waist as soon as Kuroo’s releasing you. He bumps his friend aside and smiles over his shoulder without the slightest bit of regret. “G’night, guys!” You don’t get to say bye, and that’s just fine by him. The way he has to hold you up a little to get into the taxi is too, preferable even.
He’s so glad you’re just a little thing, really. Every part of him shows you up size-wise, and selfishly, it makes him think that he was really made for you. To protect you, hold you close. Shelter you under his body when the first drips become a full on shower. He thanks whatever deity it is that starts the downpour then, because a few raindrops run down your lashes and the tip of your nose when you look up at him getting under the overhang. He’s getting too excited, it rolls in waves off of him until he can barely contain himself. You look like everything he’s ever wanted— fuck, and how you smile at him. His hands are itching to push you up against a wall and kiss you until you’re crying out his name, maybe hike your legs up onto his shoulders.
You don’t seem the exhibitionism type, but then again— he doesn’t think you’d fight him on it. Would you? But he holds it in, and waits for you to get out from under the umbrella created by his arms. “Come on in. It doesn’t seem like a good idea to let you head home like this,” you breathe out with a sniffle, pushing at the door to your apartment. You go find some towels, leaving him in the middle of your house with adrenaline running through his veins. Now, he might not be the brightest, but this is an opening, isn’t it?
Akaashi said something about boundaries, and all he can think is that if you’re letting him into your house without a second thought, something must’ve changed. It must’ve. You might’ve turned him down once that while ago, when he was claiming your mouth in the hall— but that was then, and you both are older now, closer. He can’t help but snoop as you search through some back closet for spare clothing; entering the dark bathroom with a little sigh. Like he expected, your products are neatly displayed in the cabinet, hand towels freshly washed and folded, everything seeming more like a hotel than a house. His eyes land on the basket next to the bathtub, and a hot shiver runs up his spine.
Some lacy, frilly panties are just visible sticking out next to the sweater he met you in this morning— going tingly and burning all over his skin. He already can’t help but imagine you bouncing on his cock and tearing up at the stretch when you pout; knowing that this was underneath it is enough to set him up in flames. He glances over his shoulder, before quickly picking out the panties and bringing them up to his face. It smells of feminine products and laundry soap, but there’s a musk that's unmistakably you, and his cock twitches hard in his pants. You wore these for him, didn’t you? He feels himself chub up more the longer his thoughts wander—longing to just wrap the panties around his fist and fuck into them.
But your steps are returning, so he pockets the lingerie with quick hands and puts on his best smile. You peek your head into the door after knocking, cheeks a little shiny and warm as you hand him a towel and some fresh clothing. Big… clothing— that most definitely isn’t yours. It’s fine though, he bites through the sting in his soul, you can’t know how much he adores you, and loves you, and needs you all to himself. He hasn’t exactly made it clear, and you’re also unaware of just how fucking attractive you are, right? “It doesn’t look like it’ll clear up any time soon.” Your smile is gentle when you nod. “So you can stay over if you want to. I don’t mind!”
God, he could kiss you stupid.
His hands are restless by the time the lights are all off, tossing and turning every second longer he has to remain on the extra mattress. Don’t you have any idea of how crazy you’ve made him now walking around in your short, loose fitting pajamas? It’s a domestic dream, and you’re front, center and back in every single thought. As he lays in the silence, there’s the soft sound of your chest rising and falling, of breaths softly slipping out of you— and for the nth time this night Bokuto has to admit to himself that he’s so in love with you it’s making him feel a bit sick.
You didn’t exactly make things easy on him. He still remembers calling up Akaashi every night for weeks after you rejected his advances, when you were struggling to meet his eyes after. And sure, he’d been a bit too enthusiastic. He knows that now, knows he scared you away; you’re shy, he understands. But this time is different. This time he’ll do it right. He sits up on the bed, can see how you’re slumped into the pillow. He could eat you up with how fucking cute you are. But he’s still careful as he calls your name, twice, before slowly getting onto the bed. You barely move, letting out just the faintest breath.
And Bokuto can’t help himself, he’s already leaning in to brush his thumb over your pouty lips. It’s not bad to look. He’s allowed to look. He does that all day already, studies your face like you’re his own personal universe. You would too, if you saw what he sees. Of course, it is a little different, because his cock is straining against the confines of his boxers every second longer he’s touching your soft skin, close enough to place a kiss on the tip of your nose. You breathe out, and he can almost convince himself it’s a moan. It’s enough to have him gripping himself through his shorts and biting his lip, hard. “God, f-fuck, baby.”
He nudges your head a little closer to him, and before he knows it, he's kissing you. There’s so much he wants to tell you— spill all of his love onto you without stopping, but he figures there will be time for that later. He holds himself over you into the kiss, chest heaving and foot tapping nervously up and down. His tongue swipes over yours, claiming you once again, and moaning into it when a little puff of air dusts over his skin. Could you be any cuter, any hotter? Even asleep you’re making him so hard it hurts, one hand moving down to squeeze his balls. It’s embarrassing, isn’t it, and he chuckles into your mouth when you move under him a little. “Sorry, I’ve just wanted you for so long,” he admits, pulls back and lines your neck with kisses too.
All the while your lids stay shut, and he’s careful to untie the front of your pajamas with the softest motions he can manage. “Gonna make you feel so good, baby, I swear. Give you everything.” As he trails his fingers down your body, you wiggle aside a bit, but not enough to escape his now greedy fingers. His cock bops between his thighs when he lands between your legs, and ever so patiently pulls the shorts down the softness of your thighs, swallowing through the tightness in his throat. “Oh, shit—fuck.” You’re perfect, and a shiver goes down his spine at the idea he might be a tight fit.
He can’t help it, he’s already dipping to kiss down your pussy, rubbing you up and down with first one finger, then two. You definitely moan though when he lays a lick on your covered clit and sucks it from the hood, his hips rutting against the bed with a low, rumbling whine. Precum is making his boxers stick to the head of his cock, but he’s much too preoccupied lapping up your folds and making them all messy and wet with his enthusiasm. He’s basically shaking, but how can he not be? He’s been picturing this for fucking years. Through every date, every hookup he’s had— you’d laugh if you knew.
He sucks harder, and slides his long fingers inside you to stretch the clenching, soft walls of your pussy apart; and fucks slowly into the soft of the pillows until that turns too excruchiating to continue. So instead he shoves his boxers out the way and takes the time to fully peel your panties off your legs, then places them apart. His cock is rock hard, flushed and throbbing an angry shade of red at having to wait, before he wraps his hand around himself and allows a few lazy pumps. Just enough for a clear drop of pre to bead at the tip before he’s lifting up your one thigh over his and lining up.
Your pussy is so hot, wet by his doing, and your face scrunched up just the slightest bit. It’s agony, really, baby. His thoughts are barely a strung together mess as the head of his cock slides between your bottom lips, neck and back tight from the adrenaline. This is what you do to him. Every night. He’s gonna cum if he keeps going— and he can’t, he can’t do that to you, not when he’s been dreaming of having you for so fucking long. But leaning down to kiss you doesn’t help, and you let out the prettiest whine when he starts pushing into you.
His breathing speeds up, sweat collecting on his brow. “Oh, baby. Baby, I— fuck, I wanna go slow,” he moans back against your mouth, tasting your tongue, grabbing your tits with one hand. Everything’s fuzzy. But once the head pops in, it’s like a whole other world. You’re so fucking hot, pussy so soft and sucking him in like he belongs there— any thought of taking his time is gone. It’s impossible, his hips start pushing and pushing until he’s bottoming out and your slick, gushing pushy squelches when he pulls back. You’re godly. He clamps a hand down over your neck to keep you from bouncing too much as he pushes back in and drives himself as deep as he can go.
And back out, and then you’re making more noise. “Hmm-ugh?” Your face scrunches up hard when he fucks back into you, driving you open so deep he can feel where he’s hitting in your tummy, and moan long and high. “Ah—agh, Kou? Boku- to, wh—” you struggle to regain your consciousness when he pushes your knees back to your chest and uses his body to fuck even deeper, deeper— clenching around him so tight it’s making him lightheaded.
“I know, baby, I know. S’gonna feel good, I swear,” he’s clenching his teeth together so hard it hurts watching his fat cock push into your tight, little cunt again and again and again, watching slick gush out around his length. He can tell by your strained expression that whatever is going on in your brain is outnumbered by the way he’s pawing at your tits, or bumping his pelvis against that puffy nub.
And you do manage a stuttered, “Bokuto, s-stop,” but it’s hardly anything to be concerned about when you squeal and tear up at the circles he rubs into your clit. “What’re y’ doin, Bo?” Your tears bead so prettily at your lash line. Your body shudders under his when he raises a leg and uses it to fuck into you faster, driving the air out of you with each wet ‘pap’ of skin meeting skin. His balls hit your ass each time he bottoms out, and make his cock feel like it’s going to explode, but he couldn’t stop if he tried. With your brows screwed together and your face all hot and cheeks glossy, it’s hard to think of anything other than fucking you full of his cum.
Of bouncing you on his cock until you’re crying out for him. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I love you so much, ‘m almost there.” He wants to give you everything— fucks deep and hard like maybe that’ll convey his thoughts better. He’s just not that good with words, you see, he’s tried and failed that so many times. But this, rutting into you like your pussy is his personal heaven; and that’s what it is— it leaves you breathless and reaching to dig your nails into his shoulder. He moans and grunts, whispering your name, fucking into your warm clutch until his balls pull tight and his thighs start aching. “Gonna cum, angel. Gonna fuck y’full- you like that, right? You want it?”
He’s rambling out without any collected thoughts, just focussed on watching as you suddenly pull tight like a bow and unravel before him, trying and failing to push his hand from between your legs. “Ohh-fuck— ugh-fuckk~” You cum with an adorable, little whine that makes it impossible for him to hold it any longer. He slumps over you as cum spurts into you, emptying his balls in your tight, little pussy until every last drop is inside. When he pulls back, his hot, white cum runs out like you’ve been entirely fucked full of him— and it makes his tongue drop out to lean in and kiss your cunny until he dies between your legs.
He could go happy, you know? But as he tries to hike your thighs over his shoulders, you must finally regain some of your situational awareness, because you’re placing a foot to his shoulder and pushing him away from you with wide eyes and tears running down your cheeks. “What are you doing, Bokuto? Wh- I- why would you—”
“Shh, shh, shh,” he’s instantly cooing, grabbing your ankles and keeping you in place despite your struggling. It’s so cute, but you don’t have to be scared of him. He adores you, baby— wouldn’t hurt you for anything. Everyone else, but never you. “I’ve got you, don’t freak out.” He allows himself to snuggle up to your body, pulling you in nice and close despite the way you’re glaring through your tears. It’s the stress talking, of course, but you’ll be fine. He’ll make sure of it. “You want to come again?”
“No,” you instantly snap, and though you’re pushing at his chest, it’s so easy to keep you nice and warm pinned between his strong arms and chest. You huff a little, and look between his face and your bodies, before breathing out sharply. “Bokuto, please, I—”
“Stop wiggling, baby,” his voice comes out a little too low and sharp for his liking. “Just lay here with me for a bit. And then in a second, I’ll help you clean up, and make you something warm to drink. The whole nine yards, I promise.” He’s smiling, so fucking wide it’s making his cheeks ache. But he can’t help it, you see? You’re such a dream. “I’m so happy, baby. So, so happy, you have no idea.”
As he squeezes a little more, kinda, sorta forcing your face to rest against his collarbones; you finally stop pushing back against him, and let out a soft whimper of his name. “You’re my favorite person in the world, y’know that? I know I say it a lot, but— I really do mean it.”

SNS fics in January 2024
Below is a short list of SNS fics posted or updated in January 2024 (and one from 2007)! Remember to check the tags. Expand below to see the recommended fics!
the vines that grow by GreatLoversLieInHell (AO3). Complete. 100k words, 14/14 chapters. Rated: E. After getting discharged from the hospital, Naruto returns to a home that’s no longer standing. Sasuke, who doesn’t do well in cages, flees the first chance he gets. Unmoored, unsettled, Naruto looks to his motherland for answers. Uzushio calls her son home. The road to Uzushiogakure is long, but Sasuke walks it with him. Sasuke, who looks at him, hungry. Sasuke, who sees him, wherever the light gets in. A must-read for anyone who enjoys poetic language and explorations of the uncertainty that comes with setting out to find oneself. Finished this January, this amazing multi-chapter fic offers beautiful hurt/comfort and a romance that isn't just picture-perfect cliché but raw and real. This is an analysis of Naruto's character and trauma in a way that I haven't seen it before, embedded in a travel adventure that takes Naruto and Sasuke to Uzushio. Bittersweet, thought-provoking and a very worthwhile read. Did I mention beautifully written?
What They Made You by GrimTopography (AO3). Ongoing. 395k words, 63/? chapters. Rating: E. Naruto Uzumaki's Mother, Kushina Uzumaki died the night he was born and his father Minato Namikaze tried to save her by using his demon to save her. The demon breaks free from his binds and is drawn into the new born child. Minato is enraged by losing the love of his life and condemns Naruto to a life of abuse. Naruto has nothing but Kurama, a couple friends and his love for music. School is hell and almost everybody thinks he's a monster. What transpires when a popular newcomer, Sasuke Uchiha joins the school? One night changes everything, just how will it turn out? This is like two fics in one. The first few chapters are built to show how Naruto was born and how Minato became the villian. Kinda like a prequel. Kurama and Naruto have an amazing relationship in the fic and I just adore it so much. Naruto is a tall, muscular man with a deep raspy voice (a mixture of him and Kurama). Singer!Naruto is one of my alltime favorites so I vastly enjoyed this fic and it's freash take on the idea. The angst is handled well in this story. It's also a soulmate fic with a very interesting twist! The romantic relations between them are amazing! It's thrilling to watch them handle all that life seems want to throw at them. The plot is so wonderful it's like gold, and worth every single second of read time. The reread value is so good. I find something new every time I reread it and fall harder for the story each time. Slow updates, but is ongoing and updated still!
Neonlights by lilypheria (AO3). Ongoing. 34k words, 16/? chapters. Rated: E. Sasuke is a courier in the endless, futuristic city of Konoha. Usually his deliveries are nothing but unremarkable. Then he is asked to deliver a person, and all hell breaks loose. It's a GORGEOUS fic set in a futuristic world based on a few amazing video games. Kurama is an AI within Naruto and it's so fresh and cool to see! The world building is vast and paints such a fantastic picture as you read. It's almost like watching a movie/game play video in your brain. The plot is so detailed and thrilling. Full of intrigue and mystery and wonderful tension between Sasuke and Naruto. Updates are slow, but worth the wait between chapters!
Dis-Honor by One_of_a_Kind_99 (AO3). Ongoing. 33k words, 8/? chapters. Rated: E. Be a good Omega. Become a worthy match. Bring honor to your family. Joining the army pretending to be a beta to save his father's life was the complete opposite of what he was supposted to do. The line between honor and dishonor was thin, he had no idea which side he would land on at the end of it all. An SNS retelling of Mulan. Omega!Naruto, Alpha!Sasuke. The Mushu in this is hilarious. The author has similarities to the film while also truly making it their own. There is angst, spicy content, action, adventure and of course fun banter!
Under the Table by Sebastian (taydrawrs) (AO3). Oneshot. 2k words. Rated: M. Sasuke’s finger clenched around his phone and he could almost hear the case crack under the pressure. His phone vibrated. >Please. The simple responses kept coming while Sasuke attempted to hold himself together. >I thought you cared about me. >I thought you were a kind and good person! He must be desperate if he’s resorting to compliments (and such fake ones) that he knows won’t work on Sasuke. >I have never begged anyone like this before. >Please! >Just one photo of your tits and- “Uchiha!” Sasuke slammed his knee (the same knee as before) under the table again. This time, he let out a full stream of cusses, before lifting his head to meet the angry, steady eyes of his boss. Sasuke receives a text from his husband during a work meeting that brings back a few very potent memories. It's a sexy office fic with some spicy flashbacks and sneaky phone texting during a work business meeting.
The sky is red by Skyheaven (AO3). Complete. 61k words, 16/16 chapters. Rated: M. Turns out that Naruto's new high school friend was born a girl, but idetifies as a guy. Well, that wasn't a problem for him. Except that he falls in love with him. He'd never liked a guy, so he must like him because of his female body, doesn't he? What a terrible friend he is, what a horrible betrayal to have these feelings. Better bury them deep down. Down along with his beating heart whenever he sees his face. A high school AU with a trans Sasuke. He hasn't come out to his family or anyone and so when Naruto finds out they embark on a journey of self discovery together. It's very well written and informative. There are lots of feelings, angst and some family drama as well as extremely wholesome. Itachi is a good big brother and tries his best. Which leads to some very hilarious moments. It's just a beautiful read.
Love-Love by Watermelonsmellinfellon (AO3). Oneshot. >1k words. Rated: T. What if Sai had been just a little bit further on in his research about emotions, and asked if Naruto was aware that his fixation on Sasuke looks romantic... right when they see each other at Orochimaru's destroyed base? You have 5 minutes and need a little pick-me-up? This drabble is the perfect choice. Just one scene, set in shippuden, but sure to make you smile, chuckle or giggle. What's Canon anyways, I am pretty sure this is what happened.
Dead-Last Champ by Yaman999 (AO3). Ongoing. 178k words, 40/? chapters. Rated: M. Sasuke and Naruto were high-school sweethearts. In love through thick and thin. When Naruto decides to drop out of college to pursue his dreams of being a professional MMA fighter, his lover has a difficult time accepting the sudden change in course and uses it as an excuse to justify the biggest mistake of his life. Will Sasuke ever have the chance for redemption? Or will he have to sit by as someone else comes to sweep the love he let go off of his feet? A great ongoing fic. It's a modern AU with MMA Fighter!Naruto. It has a hurt/comfort tag and it uses it. Sasuke is very impulsive and selfish and spoiled when the story begins. He has no idea what he has or how to value it. Naruto is just starting out as an MMA fighter. Cheating fic leading to their breakup. Naruto finds support in his MMA village and grows, Sasuke spirals and needs to sort himself and his life out. Does Naruto feel complete or is something missing? Will Sasuke get his life together? Only time will tell if they find their way back to each other!
And some old gold for you all, dug up from the archives:
Guess Who by Hikari M666 (FFn). Oneshot. 2k words. Rated: M. Roped into working at a phone sex hotline, Sasuke loathes his job so much he's ready to kill. And when his very own 'satisfied' boyfriend rings the hotline, will his mood improve? Not bloody likely. SasuNaru, yaoi. Let me take you back 17 years, back to January 2007, when Hikari M666 published Guess Who - a short crack fic that has the boys in a really interesting situation! For some context about where Naruto was at in 2007 - the Japanese manga volumes were just at the part where Team Asuma go against Hidan and Kakuzu! In this AU crack fic, Naruto digs his own grave down a phone line, and Sasuke is murderous by the end. Hikari M666 was a fun writer with some great oneshots, including at least one more SNS oneshot, and wrote for some other Naruto pairings, as well as some other fandoms.
That's it! Reminder that this is not an exhaustive list, the team is small and has their own preferences, and to always read the tags.

The Crimson Moon
Opening File......
File name : Y/n
.......
Y/n Uchiha the eldest sister of Uchiha Itachi and Uchiha Sasuke. The very well known "Akai me no Kaibutsu" or as "The Red-eyes Monster" of Konoha as that time her team was ambushed by a fully armed Shinobi which her friends and teacher was killed and in the process her Sharingan and then her Mangekyou has appeared and she killed everyone and then a ninja from Konoha saw it all. A 10 year old girl killed an army . Her Susano'o barely was barely complete but it did not failed to protect her. When growing up and rising to rank Jonin she and her brother Itachi become Anbu together. She was then imprisoned by Danzo and sealed her never to be seen by anyone after the massacre of her clan, but years later she was released by the man named 'Madara' and recruited her to Akatsuki. She has hidden herself to anyone but her brother and the organization, but when the war has come she revealed herself and was killed by the hands of Kaguya Otsutsuki but unbeknownst to Kaguya, Y/n was the reincarnation of her.
Upon arriving to Valhalla and meeting Brunhilde she found herself at Japanese Pantheon. Reuniting with many familiar faces that she knows back at her own world, the world of Shinobi and her love ones.
When hearing the news of the rise of the demons, she created an association together with the Demon Slayers and Valkyries and Humanities Champions(during the selection). The leaders Herself, Ubuyashiki and Brunhilde became the three main leaders of the association that will ensure the safety of all the beings.
The association was created even before the announcement of eradication of humanity or even the meeting of all the Gods.
Going back, The three main leaders has planned upon the following and the group that will be called :
Alpha squadron consist of all Shinobi together guarding the Swordsmiths and are assigned to go around every pantheons secretly and investigate if there are demons or suspicious around and will kill in secrecy. This squadron has 3 sector :
the Cavaliers who will kill without any hesitations and is grouped to any squadron or group. They are mostly assigned to protect and/or assassinate.
The Revolutionists consist of Akatsuki members but they are the group who will want changes as they all want to go against the Gods since they want to eradicate humanity they are assigned sometimes for negotiations or stealing. Some of them only agreed because they were going to be paid(hi kakuzu) they are the ones who are also called Protestants. They are mostly assigned to protest and to spread rumors.
The Investigators most likely consist of all kages but there are some who are not kages and is assigned to find any traces of Demons around and any suspicious people.
Beta squadron consist of Demon Slayers the ones who will hunts down Demons along with the Cavalier group. Yoriichi tsugikuni, Michikatsu tsugikuni, Lady Tamayo and Yushiro has also become a part of the corps ever since knowing that demons still roam around.
Delta consist of Human Champions(even Buddha is allowed) and Valkyries they are the ones on the spotlight. It was supposedly only the Valkyries but then the eradication of humanity was announced.
But then Brunhilde, Lord Ubuyashiki and Y/n found their selves at the presence of the creators of their world. Along with Nyx, her husband Erebus ,along with the Titans and the rest of the creators has blessed those who are to protect everyone. Which Blessed all those who are in the association. Especially. You.
The Alpha and Beta squad is not to be seen, they are only the darkness and shadow of the Delta squad. They are the ones who will guard down the whole place and every pantheons and never to be seen. No one, not even the Gods has noticed their existence. Except to the God of Underworld.
But before the creation of the association, she asked Brunhilde if she can work at the Norse Pantheon to which she agreed. And informed the Gods rather late.
Her duty at the Norse Pantheon is a maid which was quickly makes everyone question...even Odin was left questioning as to why such a human herself wound want to work...since...working there would be endless. And no human can last forever. or are they?
And the eyes of the Storm meets the incarnation of Otsutsuki Kaguya.

Strong Sakura fanfiction
Because in my world, the heroine had super strength! For all the female characters out there who inspired me to get better.
Sakura <3🎀💝
🌞I have added more recommendations. The latest ones would be at the top.
your hands shake with destruction and yet there is aching peace in the creases of your palms
Kakashi drags her into his office by the ear and shoves three files into her hands. “Don’t fuck it up like I did."
Words :- 3,980
Oneshot
Maturity:- 15+(due to language, gore and violence)
P.s- God killer & Jounin Sensei Sakura
Roar Little Lion Cub
There were other ways Sakura would rather spend a sunny afternoon than with her great-grandfather. Usually.
Status:- Incomplete
Words :- 17905
Maturity- General
P.S.- It is a baby Bamf sakura fanfiction.
Red Herring
Sakura had abusive parents who led her to have low self-esteem and authority issues. Read how Sakura uses her brain to go from a girl with just book smarts to the girl who learns to apply it. Papakakashi and the Uchiha clan are alive.
Pairing : Sasusaku, Naruhina
Words: 61170
Status- Incomplete
Maturity: General
P.S.: The Uchiha clan here loves the hardest, except for the punch by Sakura to Sasuke, which is "the hardest," finger quotes.😁
An Offering of Time
After spending her life outside of Konoha, Sakura finally makes the decision to return for a medical residency, along with her desire to rebuild the pack her parents once had. She thinks she has it all figured out—if only an arrogant, silver-haired alpha would stop interfering with her plans.
Pairings: Kakasaku, Naruhina, Inosai, JiraTsuna, and Nejiten
Words: 20396
Maturity: M
Status- Incomplete
P.S.: This is one of my favorite and spiciest Kakasaku fictions. Jiraya and Tsunade are the best parents. This has pack and alpha/beta/omega dynamics.

As promised, here's a snippet from from the beginning of a new fic inspired by a recent conversation I had with the one and only @kooriicolada ❤️
The working title of the story is A Life Saved.
Hope you enjoy!
-
"What's that?"
Madara turned his head to give Hashirama a quizzical look. "What's what?" He asked, wondering what on earth his friend was talking about now.
The two of them had decided to visit an onsen to relax. The last couple of weeks had been stressful to say the least, what with the construction of Konoha finally completed and the village beginning to accept missions. It went without saying that they both deserved a break and so they snuck out to enjoy some much needed downtime.
The onsen they picked wasn't located within the village, but a few miles away in a civilian town called Tanzaki-gai for that reason.
It was unclear whether the beta woman manning the counter knew they were ninja and just didn't care or she hadn't caught on to that. Sometimes gaining entry to places like inns and bathhouses owned by civilians was made difficult, since ninja had a reputation for attracting trouble. Apparently they were in luck, because they were allowed inside and were currently washing off before entering the hot pools.
Just then Hashirama gestured vaguely to his back.
"That scar," he said. "It looks... It's quite fresh, isn't it? I didn't know you were injured recently…"
Madara knew immediately which scar Hashirama was referring to.
"I wasn't," he answered as he focused back on tying up his freshly washed hair. "It looks this way, because the wound got infected. Takashi-oji had to cut it open and clean it. It's taking a while to heal properly after that."
"Was it poison or…?"
"That and poor treatment when I got it," he said, smiling a bit as he remembered that faithful mission. "I still have full mobility though and the scar… It doesn't really bother me."
"Can I ask why?"
For a moment Madara hesitated with an answer.
On one hand it wasn't as if the reason behind his injury was much of a secret. At this point he was relatively sure everyone within the Uchiha clan knew the truth even if they didn't comment on it. At the same time he hadn't really considered telling Hashirama about it or how he would do it if the subject ever came up. For some unexplainable reason the idea never crossed his mind.
Evidently taking his silence as a dismissal or refusal to continue this conversation, Hashirama changed the subject.
As they finished washing and finally entered the pool he was in the midst of telling Madara about the last preparations for his upcoming marriage to Uzumaki Mito-san, when Madara spoke, interrupting him mid sentence.
"I got injured protecting someone I came to love very dearly," he said. "It doesn't bother me, because it's a reminder of that love and that if I was faced with a similar choice once more I would do the same thing again in a heartbeat."
To say Hashirama appeared to be speechless was an understatement. The man was openly gaping at him as if this was the last response he expected. Granted, Madara was aware he rarely ever spoke so candidly about his feelings and he could count on one hand the number of times it had happened in Hashirama's presence, but it wasn't as if it had never happened before either.
The dramatic reaction was truly unwarranted.
Madara frowned. "If I knew you would react this way—"
"No! It's, I'm… I'm sorry. That's not–" Hashirama paused to clear his throat. "It's just a bit… sudden? I mean, you never mentioned anyone before and your, um, reputation… I just—"
Madara couldn't help but laugh.
"My reputation?" He asked. "Is this the moment where you shame me for the choices I made in my youth?"
"You know I wouldn't do that," Hashirama was quick to respond. "And I apologise for assuming. Truly. It's just…"
"It's just that you didn't expect me to settle down?" Madara finished for him, mirth colouring his voice.
When Hashirama simply shrugged sheepishly, he added, "You know, you wouldn't be the first person to think that. I was a bit surprised too, to be honest… And I certainly didn't plan to fall in love." He smiled a bit ruefully. "Then again, can we ever plan for such a thing?"
As expected, Hashirama didn't answer him and they both fell into a companionable silence.
Madara let his thoughts drift back to Konoha and his lover, amused when he imagined how much of an earful he was going to get for disappearing without proper notice. Doubtlessly both Hashirama and him were going to be in a world of trouble later despite being perfectly safe and caught up on their work as much as possible. After all, his omega's temper ran hot. Thankfully though it wasn't difficult to cool it down or turn it into a heat of a different kind.
Smirking to himself as he imagined all the ways in which he could apologise, he leaned back against the stones, his eyes slipping closed.
"You must really love them."
He opened one eye to glance at Hashirama. "Hm?"
"I said you must really love them," Hashirama repeated. "I haven't heard you talk like that about anyone before… It's nice."
"Thank you?" Madara said as he straightened in his seat, not sure what else to say.
"Will you attend the wedding together?" Hashirama asked next. "I'm sure we can squeeze in one more–"
"That won't be necessary."
Hashirama's brows furrowed in obvious confusion. "Why? You don't want to bring them along?"
"That's not it," Madara said truthfully.
"Then why? It would be the perfect opportunity to introduce them to— Oh." Hashirama paused, his eyes widening. "It's someone I know, isn't it? Someone already in attendance?"
Whoever thought Hashirama was an airhead was dead wrong and this moment was proof of that. The man could be uncannily perceptive sometimes, to the point Madara honestly wondered whether his friend wasn't clairvoyant by any chance.
"Yes," he answered after a moment, "it's someone you know."
"Oh?"
Madara said nothing to that and after a few beats of silence Hashirama prompted, "Well? Who is it?"
"I can't tell you."
"Can't or won't?"
"Both," Madara said. "We're trying to keep things between the two of us for now. He doesn't even know—"
He knew he made a mistake right there and then.
Hashirama's face lit up and he leaned in, his eyes bright and intent as he scrutinised Madara.
"So it's a he then? An omega, yes? And I know him? Is he from a clan? Has to be, right? Does he work in administration? Or intelligence maybe? A ninja for sure. I don't remember there being many male omegas in the–"
"It's Tobirama."

Sakura decides to move out her parents house and the best option for a new place turns out to be Sai’s place.

Work in progress (it's almost finished in my hard drive, but I'm letting my beta to do their magic and honestly in the meantime it's still growing a bit :D)
Extract from chapter 1:
Sai’s apartment was very ample and painted of a clean white, however it was more like a big warehouse with a bathroom. The kitchen was a simple long bar with a sink and some shelves set-in on the wall to have some storage, the bathroom door was metal with granulated glass and led to a refurnished bathroom with an old iron bathtub and a white ceramic sink with iron taps. The living room was at the same time the dining room sharing the space with the kitchen, not that Sai had a dining table, guessing by the two tall stools next to the kitchen bar it was obvious the artist ate there when he was home.
Hidden behind a folding screen made of wood and paper that Sakura was certain that Sai had made and painted himself, there was a double bed cornered on diagonal with the foot side facing the kitchen, to the left entering the aisle door, behind the bathroom.
The roof was really high, adding more to the impression that the place was some type of warehouse or factory refurbished.
Almost all of the walls had small windows almost to roof height and the opposite side wall was covered with several paintings, some of them already familiar to her like the one of Team 7, minus Sai and Sasuke, was on their back, looking towards the horizon. On the middle there was another stool and an old black lounge next to several different sized easels with canvas either in blank or half done, beside a small bookshelf full of notebooks and books.
Things had sped up when she had shown up on Sai’s doorstep, who corrected her about the misunderstanding that the apartment was being rented, even if the ad said so, and that in fact what he wanted was a roommate. Sakura’s suspicion was that it wasn’t an innocent mistake on the ad as Sai tried to excuse (after all she realized now that it was Sai’s handwriting on the sign) but instead a trap for someone despairing like her.
   An unsuccessful one.
Sai had a bad reputation in Konoha, even after being recognized by his achievements on the Fourth War, even outside shinobi circles he was still considered as a bit eccentric to put it lightly. Sakura suspected that, if someone came asking before her and found Sai, they would have excused themselves and/or run away on the opposite direction depending how well they knew him or polite they were.
Sakura knew that it was due in part to that lack of people skills outside of missions, which Sai was still working on improving, that he got kicked out of his old house, the one close to the big tree, when he insulted unwillingly the old landlady who already wanted to kick her tenant out in order to gift the house to her grandson as a wedding gift.
It wasn’t that long since that happened, and with her being busy between all her work in the hospital, missions and her issues at home, and with him on his ANBU missions, Sakura hadn’t had the chance to ask about his new home address.
She wondered if she had known beforehand whether she would have discarded the idea as she did with Naruto who had offered his home just like Ino when he found out on their letters she wanted to move out but that Sakura rejected for the opposite reasons:
While with Ino she wouldn’t be far away enough from her parents’ shadow, with Naruto she feared she would become the house mom as soon as he came back, her own methodical and clean way of doing things would clash against the messy ways of the Jinchūriki since she knew he was well beyond any fixing, and that the only way of not going crazy living with him was to take the full brunt of the domestic labor and that wasn’t in her plans with him or no one. Besides she didn’t want to be third wheel for Naruto and Hinata’s blooming relationship when he returned to the village.
With Sai she wouldn’t have any inconvenience of that type, the artist was almost as clean and organized as her, they would get along perfectly in that regard.
So Sakura stayed to Sai’s silent joy who had already watched others like Kiba, Shino and some other civilian practically run away when encountering him as he opened the door. That was a hit to his self-esteem but his teammate was making him forget about it quickly.
If he had known Sakura was looking for a place, Sai would have offered immediately his place. She was someone he trusted completely, besides of being someone clean and punctual, living with her would be a lot easier in comparison to living with a stranger or someone as hyperactive as Naruto.
Sakura entered the room with a genuine smile and after a short walk sat down in one of the stools at the kitchen bar, taking a bite of the cookies who Sai offered her hospitably with his usual gracefully stiff ways while he explained the terms and conditions like rent, that was ridiculously cheap including gas and water, coexistence (basically share house chores and don’t bring the place down while he was away) and lastly he mentioned he was a couple days away from a mission that would take him at least a week outside the village, asking her for an answer either before or after so he could give her a copy of the key.
Sakura was aware how usual it was for the ex-ROOT, being in ANBU now, to be away for weeks regularly, which Sakura analyzed would give her some needed alone time, at least for now.
To her own surprise, Sakura wasn’t against the idea of having her sometimes rude teammate as a roommate, but the not-as-forced-smile of Sai actually made her mind.
That was the place she was looking for.

Note
Can I ask your top 10 fav fics ever (from any fandom, if you don't mind)?
Also, just curious, is there a story behind your name "cursedvibes "?
I called myself "cursedvibes" because I thought that's the kind of impression the fics I want to write give off. My first beta reader @kaitakushi agreed (hehe) and so it was decided. As for fanfics, I'm not really gonna rank them but more list them by fandom...
JJK
Complicity by SenZen_Travers
Mahito/Kenjaku and my favourite fic of their ship. The characterization is really good and this might sound silly, but I'm glad Kenjaku is allowed to bottom here for once (very rare with Kenjaku ships in general unfortunately...)
King's Ascent by Acromos
Unfinished, but best Sukuna/Uraume fic I've ever read. Uraume is asexual and nonbinary. Love the world building and general prose here. Most of the chapters are focused on how the two grew up and they only really meet in the last one, but it's still incredibly good.
CSM
Well Prepared by Gay_as_fuck
Fic about Santa Claus and Tolka, his feelings for her and how she used him and gradually turned him into a weapon. There are only two fanfics about Santa Claus on AO3, but I'm glad this is one of them, it has exactly what I'm looking for. It's sweet, but also eerily creepy.
Houseki no Kuni
Shards of the Two of Us by undeadrabbit
Technically Kongo/Phos, but their love is platonic. Absolutely wonderful, kind of like someone wrote down all my thoughts about what happened between scenes or you got some additional canon material. Very heartbreaking to see them slowly drift apart and hurting themselves and each other despite still caring about the other.
Naruto
xenograft by Misfit_McCoward
AU where Sakura becomes Orochimaru's student while he's in Konoha and they do lots of experimentation together, on humans and animals alike. I like how Sakura slowly gets sucked in deeper in Orochimaru's machinations and loses any moral qualms she would otherwise have about the research they are doing, going so far as to compromise her own health for it. Just the sort of Mad Scientist story I like.
Be It Ever So Humble by Orochimartyr (ffnet)
A civilian enters one of Orochimaru's abandoned bases and inspects what has been left behind. I love stories that show the horror we are often familiar with in a story from the perspective from an outsider, especially if it involves the discovery of medical malpractice. There's a creeping sort of terror as we discover with this person what happened and piece together what horrible acts have been committed here. It actually really influenced my writing and was what I always aspired to write as well.
JJBA
can you tell that I like the Pillar Men?
I'll Follow You by Opus_Love
A Kars and Pillar Men origin story with Fix-It elements to it, since this is the 37th version of Kars we follow and this time he has the chance to make things right and not lose everything only to be cast into space. I especially love the slow development of Esidisi and Kars relationship and the little tidbits of information we get about the society they originated from.
We turn that old wheel round again by dratinigirl
AU where Kars lands on Earth again after being shot into space, but it's present day and Esidisi has been incarnated as a regular human, which gives Kars quite the culture shock. Very sweet, a bit angsty, but all ends well.
Youth, Man, and Father by dratinigirl
Another Pillar Men origin story. What can I say, I love the whole culture and society people come up with and I'm a sucker for EsiKars slowburn.
Monster
Five Roads Home by Lindra (ffnet)
Post-canon. Dieter and Johan bond over the child abuse they suffered and how it affects them even now. Johan is being cagey of course, but still more friendly than during canon events. It feels in-character though. Also found it nice to see Johan living as a woman now, but removed from the identity of "Anna".

chapter 4: Fated Friendships
Story Masterlist
pairing: Kakashi Hatake x female reader
warnings: SFW (NSFW in later chapters), mentions of panic attacks
wc: 2.5k
synopsis: Kakashi Hatake, newly appointed Hokage, is struggling with transitioning from active duty to being sat behind a desk. Sure, he might not be placing his life on the line every day but perhaps now is the time he puts something else out there instead, his heart.
Meanwhile, things aren’t quite adding up. There is a discrepancy in the records that cannot be explained, and it falls to you to investigate. Never did you expect it would lead you to the door of the Hokage’s office, a man you had admired from a safe distance until now. What happens next leads you into a closely guarded secret that will change the rest of your life.
In a story where the past might be harder to let go of than usual, can two strangers find a semblance of happiness and peace?
beta reader: a huge thanks to @niatheangel for continuing to be my beta reader and for holding my hand as always!! <3
Tumblr media
The path was peaceful; it usually was whenever he made this journey and he wished he could say the same for his mind. Kakashi had difficulty sleeping the previous night, thoughts of that fortuitous meeting in his office and the unsavoury predicament that he found himself in wouldn’t leave him long enough to find restful sleep.
Having become accustomed to long drawn-out days since taking office, it was alarming how much worse today had been. Meetings that seemed as if they would never end, monotonous voices that droned on incessantly and a clock that seemed to refuse to move any faster. The tick of the second hand had been a cruel reminder that the day was not yet over.
At long last he was free from the shackles of his responsibilities and after a quick detour home to change into more comfortable attire, Kakashi was once again out and walking the streets of Konoha as the evening dusk began to settle. It hadn’t taken long for him to reach the outskirts of the village, detouring into the dense foliage, and picking his way through the undergrowth until he reached a faint path that only he and less than a handful of people were aware even existed. Only having traversed it many times meant he was able to follow the patches of bare earth where no grass or flora grew.
It wasn’t a quick walk, but it was a welcome distraction from thinking about you.
Kakashi found that the harder he tried not to let his mind wander to you and your image within his mind’s eye, the more likely he was to become swept into a myriad of thoughts and they all had you at the centre. There was a lingering doubt in his mind that he had acted rashly in inviting you to have dinner with him under the necessity of distracting you. If he were honest, he wanted your company for personal reasons and mixing it with business could lead to misunderstandings that he’d rather avoid.
Did you consider his invitation as a date? He had meant it as one, but the scope for misinterpretations was problematic and something he would have to address at the earliest opportunity.
A weary hand ran through his rumpled hair and Kakashi swore to himself that he would keep thoughts of you locked away for now, this evening was going to be tough enough without stopping constantly to get lost in imagined scenarios of how things might or might not go. It was foolish to even consider how he might manage to charm his way into kissing you goodnight, or how your small fingers might feel within his. He may as well be back as an adolescent – ruled by his hormones with little regard for common sense.
Deep into the forests surrounding the village, close to the boundary of the Nara clan’s sacred forest, stood a small structure. Parts of it came into view after rounding a few branch-laden trees that obscured much of the dwelling from sight. Any shinobi worth their salt would locate it with ease but the presence of a smaller protective barrier akin to the one surrounding Konoha alerted the occupier of any presence drawing near with substantial chakra pools.
“You’re early.”
The gruff voice called from the front door that stood ajar, the navy paint peeling from the wood in places. Kakashi lowered his head with a chuckle, it was exactly the welcome he expected, and he held up a hand in greeting.
“Always a pleasure to see you too, Obito.”
Obito Uchiha leant against his porch with arms folded over his chest and a look that could only be described as deep mistrust etched across his face. The large man was slightly stooped which gave the appearance that Kakashi was the taller of the two, a trivial thing that once would have given Obito much joy to rub in the face of his ‘friend’ – the fact that he was the taller of the two.
His hair was powder white; thick and shaggy as if it needed a good cut and a comb, which it did. Matte black eyes narrowed as he approached, his head tilting to regard Kakashi with a silent request for an explanation for his unexpected arrival, but it was merely met with a shrug and a passive smile.
Would it ever get any easier to see the deep rivers of scars that covered the entirety of the right side of his body? The fissures that burrowed into the skin of his face and twisted those features into only a phantom of the young man he had once known. Guilt nipped at Kakashi, not simply because of the tragic events that had led to Obito’s changes in appearance but for also thinking that he was any less of a man because of it. He knew that wasn’t the case, the Uchiha had adapted well to the physical alterations, but he couldn’t be certain that they hadn’t impacted him in other, deeper ways.
“Something tells me I’m not going to like the reason for your visit, Bakashi,” Obito stated with a narrowed glance, stepping sideways to allow Kakashi to pass him but brushing shoulders with him in the process.
“For once, you might be right…”
~
A ringing silence filled the sparse living room, punctured by the whistle of the kettle atop the stove in the adjoining kitchen. Obito blinked. Now, surely, he had misheard something within the little story he had finished listening to.
No, no, no.
He opened his mouth once, not able to find suitable words and closed it again. Kakashi stared at him with sorrowful eyes and that only made the thump of his heart escalate even more. He didn’t need that from him right now, didn’t want the empathy. He had no use for the even tone and measured words, what he wanted was his old rival and friend that would jab at him without prompting. Sarcasm dripping from every syllable – yes – that’s what he longed for.
Normality – was it so hard to attain? To wish that he could live like he wanted to without the heavy burden of what had come before? This was meant to be his chance at finding redemption, even if he were convinced that he would never be worthy of such a thing. When he thought of the risks that had been taken to make this possible… fuck, it didn’t bear considering.
“They’ve found out that the documents are gone, and you’ve got a date?” he asked, finally fighting past the lump in his throat.
Kakashi laughed, looking away with what looked like a blush creeping over his cheeks.
What the fuck, Kakashi Hatake, blushing? This must be a dream, a nightmare brought on by goodness knows what, but I cannot be witnessing Kakashi getting bashful over a girl.
“You’re turning into a tomato; did you know that?”
“Will you shut up! We are not discussing the colour of my cheeks, but I can put the mask back on if it bothers you that much,” he retorted with a scowl.
Obito watched him toy with the mask that rested around his throat, he still wasn’t used to his old friend removing it in his presence when he had never chosen to do so back in their youth. Whether it was meant to symbolise some kind of trust or not he wasn’t sure, but whatever it was or wasn’t, it continued to irk him.
“No need in hiding your embarrassment from me. I didn’t think it would take you this long to finally go on a date but here we are.” Standing from his beaten old couch, Obito wandered towards the hissing kettle and poured out two cups of tea. “So, what’s she like? Must be something special to have you flustered, Hatake.”
Kakashi choked on his saliva, meeting midnight eyes shining with boyish humour. He took the offered tea, setting it down and bristling at where this conversation seemed to be heading. They should be discussing what to do about the discovery of Obito’s missing death certificates, but the Uchiha didn’t seem keen on that course of action.
“Have you been out in the sun too long again? This is hardly the time or place to be talking about my love life, however non-existent you might believe it to be,” he said with a dismissive wave of his hand.
He did not want to tell him about you.
There wasn’t a single intention in his mind to share the little facts he learned so far and the many undeniable reasons he wanted to get to know you all the more. If Obito were to learn that he had stalked you in the halls of the Hokage tower rather than simply introducing himself like a normal person…
What he failed to realise was that Obito was clinging to any opportunity not to think or talk about the very real and serious situation he was facing. At the mere thought, cold sweat gathered at the nape of his neck and his stomach churned. The panic he had worked hard to subdue in the past few years threatened to swallow him whole at the prospect and he silently begged Kakashi not to say exactly what he knew he was about to say.
Sadly, his silent plea fell on deaf ears.
“Perhaps it would be for the best to declare yourself as alive. You would have my full support and protection. I could set you up in a proper home in the village, and find you a job to your liking. You deserve a shot at a second chance, take it.”
The teacup in his hand shook, rattling as he placed it down before he poured the burning liquid down his front. Obito took a deep breath, turning away from the silver-haired shinobi – now Hokage – and attempted to control the tendrils of fear that lunged for him. Like coiled ropes of barbed wire, they twisted around his limbs until he felt immobile, and his eyes widened suddenly in blind panic.
He would lose himself to a trip down memory lane if he wasn’t careful. It was imperative to regain the upper hand, to remind himself that he was no longer the puppet for a mastermind far more wicked than could have ever been comprehended. A hand landed on his shoulder, he jumped in response and swung around wildly, shoving a palm against a solid chest that did move but not as much as he’d have liked. So much strength, lost.
“Breathe, Obito. I didn’t think—look… I’m sorry.” The words sounded whispered over a great distance, not spoken in front of him and Obito sat heavily and let his head fall back against the couch.
The pain in his head dissipated slowly, and the first wash of shame hit him hard. Grinding his teeth, he scrubbed a palm down his face and refused to look at Kakashi who stood over him with an unreadable expression.
“I do not want or need your pity so whatever is going through that mind of yours, just forget it alright?”
“Why do you continue to shut me out? I thought we were over this dumb shit. We are meant to be friends, as loosely as you might want to apply that term, but friends should be there for each other.”
Obito scoffed, couldn’t he see the hypocrisy in his words? “Oh, you mean like how you refuse to talk to me about this girl that’s got you acting like a damn fool. You asked her on a date to distract the poor thing from her job, how very fucking rational of you.”
This was better, he could deal with the burn of irritation far easier than the torment of past traumas. As quickly as he had sat down, Obito was back on his feet and the two men looked ready to square off.
Just when it looked like they might relive old times and go for a round of sparring, Kakashi blew out a breath and retreated a few steps. His hands dug deep into his pockets, assessing the situation for what it was, diversion tactics.
“If I tell you a bit about her, will you talk to me about what I mentioned? I know it’s not an easy subject but it’s become necessary to tackle it sooner rather than later,” Kakashi asked, once more extending the olive branch of friendship and peace.
A head of snowy hair nodded solemnly, his throat working furiously but resigning himself to the fact that Kakashi was right but he really could use the temporary distraction.
~
“Well, it’s a fine mess you’ve landed yourself in,” Obito surmised after Kakashi had finished going through the details he was happy to share. There were things being left unsaid but he didn’t push further. He could keep his precious secrets for now. Funny how he was sure they’d come to light in one way or another.
“I— it’s not that bad! You make it sound like I’ve led her on… wait, do you think I have?”
Obito shrugged, leaning back and taking a long sip of his tea. “Maybe not led her on but the water is so muddy you can’t see an inch in front of your face. Are you genuinely interested in her outside of the fact that she is on the right track to discovering my existence and ruining your perfect boy reputation?”
Kakashi stiffened and he was about to reply when he was interrupted. “‘Cause from what you’ve said and how you’ve said it, you like her a lot more than you’re admitting to me. It scares you, doesn’t it? First time even contemplating listening to your heart and it’s not as straightforward as you’d like it to be.”
“Stop speaking rationally, it doesn’t suit you… idiot. Anyway, I’ll fix it tomorrow.”
“Yeah yeah, whatever. Just remember that honesty is the best policy,” Obito quipped with a pointed finger.
Kakashi smiled despite himself, the ghost of his former squad mate’s bright grin enough to alleviate any immediate concerns over his upcoming dinner. “Is that right? So I should tell her all about you then, huh?”
“Whoa now, let’s not be hasty!”
“Uh-huh… that’s what I thought. Setting aside my failings, I think it’s about time we discussed more serious matters.”
It was going to be a long night; the two men chatting and arguing until the first rays of the morning sun leaked through the trees. Whilst the topic may have been heavy, neither could deny that it was nice to be in each other’s company for longer than their usual visits.
Maybe there would be a way out of this whole mess without hurting anyone and with a positive outcome for all. It seemed unlikely, but stranger things had happened so why rule it out?

Bleak!primadonna AU brainrot continues (2024-04-04)
… I think I’m just becoming the blog of hyper-niche DoS future fic because… my brain… still rotting… from bleak!primadonna AU. At this point, I think there is no NOT!bleak primadonna AU, so maybe the bleakness doesn’t have to be specified anymore. The primadonna ‘verse, as it were….
ANYWAY, JUST BEEN THINKING ABOUT HOW EXTERNAL WOMB STUFF (as originated by loveelemental and further developed by damnsmartblueboxes) AND HOW THE POLITICS OF THAT WOULD OR WOULDN’T AFFECT SOME THINGS.
Because, like, I try to adopt as much of DoS fanon as I can from other writers and I realized one that I have internalized but didn’t think to apply to the primadonna ‘verse is the idea that Hana Inuzuka is the next Inuzuka clan head and also she’s a lesbian and engaged to her partner (as per JohnBurtonLee’s I Got You which I, at this point, pretty much consider DoS beta canon in that it’s basically canon until very specifically said otherwise by Word of God)
Anyway, all that being said: whether or not the Inuzuka are matrilineal (as I headcanon for the Aburame) or they follow primogeniture regardless of the firstborn child’s gender, it would still fall to Hana to have an heir of her own. Which, you know, get a donor, etc etc. BUT, if they want the child to be as genetically close to a biological child from both of them as possible, either Kiba is the donor with Hana’s partner being the carrier—I’m going to call her Kaori for now—or if Kaori has male relatives (a brother, ideally) then Hana is the carrier.
But, what if Kaori’s family SUCKS? What if they’re ABSOLUTE ASSES? What if they’re homophobic bigots who don’t approve of the relationship, much less them having a child together? Hana and Kaori wouldn’t going to want their DNA anyway. (Sorry to give you a shit family Kaori, but you're marrying into a pretty cool one so... congrats?)
But then it’s also like… uh… Kiba is your annoying little brother who really didn’t believe we were engaged. Not out of bigotry or ill-intent, but it’s still annoying. And also, like, don’t really want to think about your little brother’s sperm.
What’s a wlw couple to do?
Because it’s not just about the gestation and carrying the baby to term, but the incompatibility of egg-egg or sperm-sperm conception.
But wait! Introducing the new HaruNara external conception and gestation machine(/seal?)! For the low low price of (I don’t know, the first generation may be free since it’s all prototype and experimental?) you and your partner(s) can have the biological child you’ve always wanted! No mess, no stress, no risk that an undercover agent from an enemy clan/village will steal your bloodlimit and/or extremely politically important heir! Highly trained and accredited experts of medicine and sealing will oversee the HaruNara process and your genetic material/future child will be fully protected by an elite team of Konoha’s powerful shinobi! We’ll help you make the family of your dreams! SIGN UP TODAY!
… if you didn’t read all of that in an infomercial voice, I messed up.
What I’m saying is, Hana and Kaori’s first child—who I am now calling Manako which means eyeball—was of the first generation of HaruNara babies (a process which I assume EXTREMELY involved Sakura, hence the name).
Keen-eyed readers may remember that I wanted Mimi Inuzuka to be a year above Shikadai, and that is still true. I’m just giving Mimi Inuzuka and older sister, because I want the sort of… bookend of Manako is of the first generation of HaruNara babies and Mimi is from the last generation of HaruNara babies (outside of the ANY clan alliance)
AND HERE’S WHERE THE POLITICS COMES IN! :D
Because the HaruNara requires a sealing master (from the Nara Sealing Research Group) AND a medic specifically trained under Sakura. Although there are ANY medics trained under Sakura, there aren’t any non-ANY sealing masters—except maybe TenTen—who are trained in the use of the seals and equipment, of which those would be proprietary Nara technology anyway.
… and even if TenTen COULD, I don’t think she necessarily WOULD because she is indebted/grateful to the Nara for even putting her name on the NaraTen seals (still industry leader, decades later) and giving her those royalties as opposed to just, like, a one time “consultant/independent contractor” fee and then goodbye forever. I think, even if she isn’t officially part of the Nara Sealing Research Group, she does get invited a lot or consults enough (with appropriate/fair payment or additional royalties) that she wouldn’t necessarily turn her back against them. And, like, look. Even if it was decades ago, she did love Shikamaru and they were friends even when they broke up, so she also grieves for him too. I don’t know her stance on, you know, straight up murder the councilors who ordered his assassination. But I can’t imagine she’d so fully turn against Shikako—who, again, was even more her friend than Shikamaru, and so ACTIVELY contributed to TenTen’s career success—that she would scab against the Nara clan and run half of the HaruNara technique on behalf of Konoha unless they SPECIFICALLY ORDERED HER TO.
BUT EVEN THEN, I have to imagine the number of times she must have had “don’t interfere with clan affairs” thrown in her face regarding the Hyuuga Caged Bird seal and now she can throw it back in Konoha’s face. But, like, in a plausible deniability sort of way.
All that being said: the ANY alliance may very well be keeping this technique to themselves and either separately contracting (with all profits going to ANY alliance only, rather than it being split with Konoha) or charging an EXORBITANT FEE to those who are trying to hire them via Konoha official paths.
Because, like. You can’t tell me the Kantokusha clan of Hidden Grass don’t have the village under their thumb. That’s why they were so desperate to get rid of Shikako, someone who had seemingly defeated their ultimate technique.
And while Konoha has other methods of income, older and more established than the HaruNara seals, you can’t tell me the ANY alliance wouldn’t be extremely pedantic and petty about proprietary clan techniques. Again, just pointing at the Hyuuga’s Caged Bird Seal.
Of course, the ANY alliance isn’t trying to make more enemies—if anything, they are trying to do the opposite, and woo other clans to their theoretical secession—so they’re not being extortionate about it. But they are making it clear that this is a clan/alliance technique, not a village technique.
To be clear, this switch from it being a Konoha service to an ANY clan specific service is because of The Incident—hence why Mimi is part of the last generation of Konoha serviced HaruNara babies--so it’s not as if the ANY alliance have been denying or overcharging the Inuzuka use of the HaruNara process. And also, it may very well be that Hana and Kaori have reached the number of children they want (unsure if it’s just her and Manako or if I want them to have a/multiple siblings in between) and it’s just coincidence that they bookend the window of time where the HaruNara process was a village service and not an ANY alliance service. BUT I just thought that would be an interesting way to frame the Inuzuka’s involvement/opinion on the Incident, especially since I am REALLY thinking about writing another Primadonna ‘verse segment and it involves Team Chiyako which has Mimi Inuzuka and the Branch Hyuuga teen that Shikadai has a crush on.
Anyways, how do you look at all of your beautiful, rambunctious children and not be extremely grateful to the person who literally made it possible for them to exist. And, you know, wouldn't any Inuzuka member also want to tear to pieces the people who try to harm their family? Considering I imagine if the Inuzuka clan had a motto it would be something like Honesty, Loyalty, Integrity, I can’t imagine those Hana's personal opinion would be would be too different from her Inuzuka clan's opinion (unlike Chiyako and Tsunade’s, lol)
The Inuzuka are not official allies with the Akimichi, Nara, Yamanaka. They are also not official allies with the Aburame and the Hyuuga even though members of their clans get put on the same teams often due to synergistic abilities. I don’t know who they are official allies with, but we do know that they joined Konoha at roughly the same time as the other clans and have since been a pillar member of the village.
So the question then becomes: does the fact that their current clan heiress (Manako) and her sibling(s) exist because of Shikako Nara outweigh the generations of loyalty to Konoha?
Here’s where I thread this needle: I don’t think they would secede… but I do think they would gladly support a different Hokage and are fully in favor of Naruto stepping down. I think, if they have clan vows the same way the ANY alliance does, that Hana (with approval from Tsume and whatever elders or equivalent thereof that the Inuzuka clan has) changed them before Manako and her sibling(s) became genin and would have to say them.
I think Manako might not even be on a jounin led tead. I think Manako probably went from the Academy, then straight back to specialized Inuzuka clan training, both because she is heiress and also so that she wouldn’t necessarily have to swear oaths of loyalty to the village over her clan or to the current Hokage in particular.
Which makes Mimi’s placement on Team Chiyako interesting if she is the only one of her siblings(? Although, it could just be her and Manako) who didn’t get recalled back to clan training after the Academy. What oaths did she make? Are the Inuzuka very deliberate in their wording of loyalty to the village (but not the Hokage?) in protecting the people, but not the administration.
I think, if the Inuzuka can’t make Shikako Hokage (and if this WERE closer in time to the Incident, they probably would have voted a no-confidence in Naruto, had that been a route available to them) then they are part of the group who either want Kakashi back in power (even though he very much DOES NOT WANT) or are of the belief that if they can’t have a Hokage they can be loyal to, they will either FIND or MAKE a Hokage they can be loyal to.
By which I mean: if I’m already playing the next generation parallel game, not only is Mimi Inuzuka the kunoichi on a team one year older than Shikadai, she also, like TenTen, wants to be like Tsunade. But, unlike TenTen, its not because of healing, it’s because she’s a female Hokage and Mimi is going to be the next one if she has any say over it.
Basically, EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF THIS GENERATION WITH ANY POWER/POLITICAL AMBITIONS WHATSOEVER IS GUNNING FOR THAT HOKAGE SPOT. Because if they don’t, Konoha may very well split in half.
I do think the most “healing” of the candidates is Shikadai, given it is a rift between Konoha and the Nara specifically, but hell… at this point, anyone else might be enough to get the ANY alliance to stay. Sarada who, even if she is still genetically a Sakura-Sasuke child, would have been raised by Sakura-Ino-Sai is arguably part of the ANY alliance… maybe?
I DIDN’T GET INTO WHAT THE HARUNARA CONCEPTION AND GESTATION MACHINE(/SEAL?) WOULD MEAN FOR THE UCHIHA REPOPULATION PROGRAM.
Because. Almost all of those Uchiha repopulation program kids I made are of age or younger than Shikadai. (Sakako doesn’t exist in primadonna ‘verse, sorry. Add another check in the bleakness column.) So either, they ARE using the HaruNara machine(/seal?) as an officially allied clan of the ANY clans (ANUY alliance? Hm… I don’t like that) OR it is one of the only Konoha official usage of it post The Incident—by which I mean, Konoha is subsidizing some/most of the exorbitant costs so that the Uchiha DON’T officially join the ANY alliance—OR… they aren’t using it and they’re just going old fashioned surrogacy (as it was originally written) but you HAVE to imagine that absolutely frustrates whoever is in charge of the program (probably Sakura, let’s be real) because there is this method to make the program so much more efficient if it weren’t for FUCKING POLITICS and it HAS HER NAME ON IT.
Oof. Yikes.
Anyway, sorry I went on a tangent. Many people are gunning for that Hokage spot, Mimi Inuzuka included. I think she was deliberately put on a jounin led team because Hana or Manako could smell/see the way the winds were blowing in Konoha. The Aburame heiress/future head as well as a Branch Hyuuga representative being on the same team—those two (and maybe the Uchiha, gotta figure that out) being the most likely to join the ANY alliance in secession—would need a stronger tether back to Konoha. And while the Inuzuka may have self-isolated a bit due to lack of faith in the Hokage, they are still loyal to the village as a whole. And then their third teammate is a Kurama because I’m already playing the next generation parallel game, so I needed a genjutsu user. BUT I have also made their abilities synergize, so this team does make sense functionally as well as, uh, metaphorically? Politically :D
FINAL TANGENT before I let this brainrot go, 1) Kareru Uzumaki definitely exists in this ‘verse because 2) the first generation of HaruNara babies are younger than him because the techniques didn’t fully gel together UNTIL Shikako discovered the seal he was in so 3) AT MOST there is eight years difference between the oldest of the HaruNara babies and Shikadai’s year, and I don’t even think that much but I can’t be bothered to do math right now.
Hopefully this rambling around will lead to an actual legible ficlet. If you made it this far, sorry for this disaster of a post.

wherever Mito is in your omegaverse, she’s living her best life
Mito's been promised to Hashirama for a peace treaty. While the Senju elders were very happy about this, Hashirama didn't like the thought of forced marriage for peace, also because his own interest lies with Madara and they have had a lot of talks about the nature of mating and marriage and Hashirama has adapted to the Uchiha way of doing these things.
They still met and it turned out that Mito was just as happy about the not marriage as Hashirama. Because first off, she was actually hoping to marry the other founder of Konoha and secondly, she doesn't even like alphas lmao.
Mito's Hashiramas best friend and whenever Madara's not busy all over, they like to train together.
Mito's love life? She's got a beta wife and everyday is better than the last for her.
Anyway, Hashi and her like to gossip and share their love for Madara with one another lmao.

How would you say that relationships structure changes in your verse for the future of the world that you’re working in for cherry wine -the normal time of Naruto? Since so many people and clans are gone now because of the wars and just being a ninja in general is dangerous. I figure for civilians they would be less affected and would still be normal sibling sets marrying other sets traditionally. Do people start mostly marring/dating in singles, I’m sure they already exist but as a more general rule, or creating more casual polyamorous style relationships, by having more friendly platonic, partners that are not necessarily blood related like a sibling or cousin but a best friend, that they choose to form a set with, possibly then marrying/dating a another set.
When I was originally trying to pose this question I was only really thinking about marriage but just realized that more modern “dating” as we know it with the system of sets would be a nightmare versus courting.
ohohohoho
long story short : dating as a sibling set is slowly gonna go the way of arranged marriage in general. traditional clans will still push for it and may enforce it or not depending on how well they argued for their clan right when they signed on to be part of the village, but by the time Naruto is born it won't be the law in Konoha and a lot of normal-people cities.
that's because :
1. konoha being a mess of a LOT of different clans and rules had to pick and choose and discard a lot of redundant or contradictory stuff to make a coherent legal code, and since separate clans were losing people by the hundreds due to war and most of them already had a "adopt the survivors into another litter" tradition it wasn't hard to make it into "people can legally adopt in and out of their own litter", even if they probably did have to add a "unless their clan says differently" sub clause due to pressure from the founding members. it's still great for the civilians and the clan-less ninja and contributes to a general loosening of rules even in the more traditional clans.
and the major one: 2. there's no XX, XY business here, every single ABO person in this universe has the same sex chromosomes; the only reason they express different reproductive roles is their hormone balance. it's basically decided in the womb; the first foetus who tips over into reproductiveness one way or another smothers the development of reproductive and secondary sexual characteristics in the other kids, but the building blocks are here, the organs are here, they're just, like, tiny and asleep.
so the SECOND scientists figure out how to fuck with hormonal levels in a safe and consistent way, there will be alphas and omegas who will RUN for the chance to be a beta and not have to shoulder the baby-making and the heats and the specific potentially-oppressive clan rules, and betas who will be overjoyed that they CAN, actually, replace a dead or barren sibling to have the litter's children... or divorce a litter that doesn't get along in two and STILL have a reproductive member each so they're not held hostage by the threat of dying without a family of their own... or just experience something they really really always wanted to be... and there will be siblings who trade off the baby making ability every five years even though they stay a set, or even decide to have several alphas or omegas in a single set or what-have-you.
(i'm sharing this because it's not gonna be in the fic, mind, tobirama won't be the one finding that out, so it's not a spoiler; it's gonna start coming up around minato's generation. orochimaru was working on it probably. XD)

Itachi Uchiha x Reader
Fear is the mind killer (1)
cw: navel gazey fake sherlock holms bullshit, set in the omegaverse although that's largely irrelevant to plot, alpha!reader, this oc suffers from a good amount of justified paranoia, also warning for attempts to be realistic about the whole child-soldier thing
A better member of the village would have put it all behind them, the whole sordid affair of one of the village's founding clans, a noble clan, being all but wiped out in a night.
It was an act of madness, of power, sometimes seen in the shinobi world. In a single night, the entire clan, fair and shrewd, cruel and arrogant, kind and dedicated, had been made martyrs.
Everyone except the eldest son of the clan head, who was now a villain, and the youngest son of the same, who was now a victim.
If anyone else was stunned into denial and disbelief they, like you, kept their silence. If this was the work of an enemy then it was one that was strong enough only the highest ranking members of the village would know much about it. If it was, more terrifying, the work of a supposed friend to the village, then there was something rotten in the roots of Konoha's great tree.
If it was truly madness, part of you didn't wonder if maybe the village deserved its grief. Itachi had had friends, or at least people who considered themselves his friends. He was an ANBU, one who waded into the dark. Those around him should have never let things get this far.
There was no funeral, which would have been the choice of the last village-bound Uchiha.
Still for there to be no public memorial for a founding clan was strange.
It would have been Uchiha Sasuke's choice, but you wished someone had counseled him to make a different one, even if it would dredge up painful memories. The completely silent and echoing absence of a whole clan in the village was resounding.
The knowledge of who had done it - the jounin and chunin were all whispering about it, it was impossible to keep secret and the village had given up trying almost before it had began - felt like the aftermath of a punch pulled right before it hit your nose.
You suspected you weren't alone in feeling like the massacre being just the Uchiha had been a near miss.
Your mind craved distraction from its own grief, and for better or worse, any information about the event was placed into some box in your mind like sweeping up the shattered remains of a vase. And like broken porcelain, it rattled when you walked with it.
It rattled when villagers fell suddenly silent at odd moments in their own conversations, whether what conversation you heard had seemed to hint at ill will or sympathy towards the Uchiha.
It rattled when you realized it was the forty-ninth day after the massacre and while your steps had taken you past the village's largest temple, your fear of being watched - you had after all been one of the friends (or at least acquaintances) of now traitor Uchiha Itachi - kept you from going inside.
It rattled whenever you caught sight of the other clan heads, distant and alone or with a cohort of vassal clan members and trusted guards, and wondered what they made of the event. What did they think of the lack of response from the village? What did they make of the power vacuum?
You walked back to your apartment in silence after leaving your teammates each day, the back of your neck prickling.
Most jounin sensei preached against fear. It froze the senses or focused them without the benefit of incorporating other information. Your sensei was a beta woman from no clan lineage in particular who had taken one look at your team, fresh out of the academy, in the middle of a village still somewhat resentful of how it was still rebuilding itself after being trampled on by a hundred meter chakra monster, and told you all that fear, like pain, meant something was wrong.
Sometimes it could be ignored or fought through to be dealt with in the future. Sometimes it was telling you something important about yourself or your environment.
As fear was in the mind, however, it liked to be more difficult to deal with than pain. It was the shinobi's responsibility, she counseled, to discern when your body was being reasonably ridiculous about it (like when your teammate put a thorny beetle down the back of your collar), or when it could put you in danger.
Such as would be the case for one trapped in a potent genjutsu. Or one of likely a number being watched for their response in the aftermath of a local upheaval.
Everyone seemed to be watching with bated breath to see if anyone else would do something. You had no idea what would happen if someone decided to break rank. The enemy on the other side of the field was entirely obscured.
Or at least they were trying to be.
You went to training and returned home day by day with only the varied and mindless sort of wandering someone both surprised and grieving might do.
The pieces rattled around as you sifted through them, thoughtlessly tracing the edges.
There was a formation among many others that your sensei had laid before your team. Shinobi had many ways of laying traps for their enemies, and for those they were not sure yet were enemies.
Nagano Botan was a branch member of the Akimichi family and blessed with the corresponding large build and large chakra reserves. He was the center of a strategy in your team that involved his intentionally neglecting to suppress his chakra if you suspected yourselves being monitored. The enormity of his natural power effectively drowned out the other chakra signatures in close proximity so that a typical sensor who wasn't sure what they were looking for could underestimate your team's number or miss a position.
It also had the secondary effect of intimidation. There was less likelihood of an attack from those without enough information if they thought they were outclassed to begin with.
This plan didn't work all the time, but it worked often enough on simple protection missions where the enemy were hill bandits or mountain bandits or simply cowards that the technique was taught to genin.
Sometimes the best defense was a distraction. It aligned at least with the philosophy of those whose job it was to be a constant and possible threat, lurking in the dark.
You frowned to yourself. ANBU was about as deep as the shadows got but there hadn't been any other announced defections from the village in the same week or even month.
There had been very ostensibly nothing else happening at all.
Not that you would know what was happening, you thought sourly, pulling your mind back to the exercise at hand.
Your other teammate, Kuniko, was on a hidden branch practicing throwing senbon through leaves that you sent spiraling into the air
She was very good with them and it had become one of your favorite things to see a fall of steel needles coming down like rain from a direction that your enemies hadn't anticipated. She was however working on precision and you were working on control and cultivating a second chakra nature, so this resulted in you sending leaves spiraling the wrong way in relation to the ground and trying to will your chakra to split them before Kuniko could pin them through with her throwing needles.
By tally, she was winning and it seemed more and more likely that you were going end up buying her the wagered plate of sakuramochi.
It was one of the less physically demanding but mentally taxing exercises your team had in its training repertoire and you and Kuniko, who was experimenting with adjusting throwing angles with chakra threads as well, took scheduled breaks to let Botan ply the two of you with snacks and meditate in order to recenter your control and focus.
They were talking, each pressing Arakawa-sensei with questions about their individual training, while you twirled a leaf between your fingers. You were comfortable, nestled between the roots of a tree with your back pressed to its warm trunk. You were trying to sense the layers of the leaf and direct your chakra to split it that way, rather than along the main vein.
It was perhaps a tad too complicated, certainly too complicated to be useful in the field right now, but you were feeling a bit mischievous and bifurcating Kuniko's target in a way that appeared to duplicate it was tempting.
You rolled the stem between your fingers, careful to maintain the chakra-cycling breath that was the base root of this particular meditation. The leaf's top side was shiny, glossy and very green, the other less vibrant and soft, spongy. You brought it to your nose and pulled in the green growing scent. The underside prickled your skin, not as soft as you had imagined.
Kuniko was laughing at something but somehow that sound suddenly made you wary, like there was something at just that same frequency you couldn't hear.
You were careful. This feeling was not unfamiliar since the massacre. The sudden and unprovoked sense of panic, of missing something. Intentionally, you avoided catching Arakawa-sensei's eye. She would help you if it was unreasoned panic, but you felt like this was one of those thing she had mentioned.
One of those times when fear meant that something was wrong and that something important was right there, just beyond articulation, and it needed to be brought into the realm of thought before it could be dealt with.
What kind of threats were simply too deep to be acknowledged?
The kind that lived at your very back.
Kuniko called your name to begin again and you used the tree to support you when you stood and picked carefully over the grass when you walked over.
It was now time for a rotation. Botan was to practice tree walking, standing upside down or sideways in order to avoid detection, so fluid that not even a leaf would fall from the trees above. Kuniko was to try burning the leaves that did fall before you could catch them in your hand. At the same time, you were each trying to tag Botan out before he got to one of you, without being seen.
You fought back a scowl, because there was already an answer. Like a sliver of porcelain found under the wardrobe or stabbed into your palm. A shiver passed over your back when Arakawa-sensei popped up behind the two of you on the ground, a sinister warning to get out there and get started in her eyes, but the shiver stayed for different reasons.
For one, the kind of wind that promised a chill storm had kicked up, helping Botan to hide within the noise. For another, you quite literally felt like you would jump at your own shadow if the forest hadn't already swallowed it.
What kind of shadow was deeper than ANBU?
You didn't know, but you were certain that Uchiha Itachi had a good idea.
Tumblr media
A/n: This is the promised start to a short series that is about Itachi's Alpha's decision to go find Itachi, and their thought process in discerning what was going on behind the scenes of the Uchiha massacre. It is incredibly navel gazey and doesn't have much to do with the omegaverse apart from being set in that realm. As writer and readers I think we understand that despite the shinobi practice of treating academy graduates as adults, this does not mean that genin and advanced ranks are making completely rational/unemotional decisions. Itachi's decisions, which are focused on here, were incredibly emotional. Despite being saddled with an adult's burden and expected to make an adult's decisions, after watching and rewatching the relevant scenes of his conversations with the elders, as well as his confessions to Sasuke and others later on, I have come to a greater appreciation of the writing for those scenes(whether this is confirmation bias or truly present I don't know). Itachi's decision regarding the massacre is made based on fear, anger, desperation, love, and watching him makes his youth more obvious, even behind the reputation of his being an ANBU captain and the clan heir. The mc in this is an unreliable narrator partly due to their own age, as well as what I imagine would be incredibly stressful circumstances post-massacre. In part 1, they don't love Itachi. Yet. They just remember him. If you've had such similar experience regarding persistent thoughts about someone before, you may recognize the experience of the object of mc's thoughts becoming a kind of obsession as they replay scenes and ideas over and over. They also know that although Itachi was at a level far beyond his own peers, he was also part of their age group, which is a bit like watching one of the gifted kids go to all the advanced classes but still know they're in the same literature class as you or something. So I don't think they, starting off as a genin when this happens, has quite the understanding of ANBU to really believe that Itachi is behaving like an ANBU or jounin veteran would. Everything in this will come from the mc's point of view and they are not always aware of the assumptions they are making at every step, despite doing their best to reason things out. Importantly, they are being coached by Itachi's "voice". Some assumptions they eventually will have to admit came into being because they didn't want a friend and someone they looked up to be a murderer and leave it at that. Sometimes the things we want to be true about ourselves and other people give us blinders. Shinobi are taught to be unfeeling and told that the highest honor would be to be a perfect tool, easily molded. But we see how that works out over and over again, with Itachi, with Obito, with Kakashi, with Sasuke, with Rin, with Tsunade and so on. And we see how individual thinking or great problem solving abilities, often in the children deemed prodigies by the villages (including many of the series' missing nin), sometimes going hand in hand with a nearly curse-level ability to empathize, buts up against the shinobi ideal. After all, empathy with your enemies would make you a fantastic strategist, but only if you can also stop thinking of other people as people. For better or worse, this mc becomes aware that they are "not a good shinobi" early on, and this transforms into an internalization of a "ninja way" that is not quite in lockstep with the village policies.

we looked like giants.
Hello my friends and followers, today I offer you the OC fic I have been holding back for one and a half years and rewritten at least five times. I am very protective and vunerable about this here, which is one of the reasons I have been holding it back for so long. I am still very nervous about sharing, so please have mercy with me. You don't have to read this if you don't like.
I made Sayuri when I was 16 in early 2009. Back then we could only speculate who Tobi was (tho Obito was a strong contender), so the similarities in their stories is just coincidental! I did not know Obito was still alive, I did not know he was in Kiri for a long time too. I guess it worked out in the end, but it was surely not intentional.
Thank you to @lemony-snickers for beta reading.
Sayuri looks like this.
Hatake Kakashi x OC
Rated E (eventual smut)
6786 words.
On the cusp of an all out war between the big villages and the Akatsuki Uchiha Sayuri suddenly returns to her hometown of Konoha after over ten years of absence. Her return throws Kakashis life out of order. Or- If Hatake Kakashi had a ryo for everytime a childhood friend he thought was dead came back to life he would have two ryo, which isn't much, but it is weird that it happened twice.
homecoming.
"It's no use trying to sneak up on me, I've already noticed you," the boy said, throwing a shuriken up in the air that he had just picked up from the ground. He shook himself, feeling a sense of unease creep up the back of his neck. He was just out here training and wasn't really up to dealing with bothersome things. Especially since this wasn't the first time he was forced to. The boy did not like other people very much, he did not feel comfortable with other people. Other people stared at him, they talked and whispered about him and worst of all, they did not understand him, not in a way he wanted to be understood. This included his two teammates, who, though important to him, would never deeply get him. Though he liked them fine, Rin more so than Obito, and tried to work with them as well as he possibly could, he still preferred to work on his own, without having to interact with others. Unfortunately for him, shinobi weren't meant to work alone, not if one was trying to adhere to the rules. So personal contact, interpersonal relationships and occasional talks with others were inevitable. Which was a total annoyance. A girl, black hair, two braids down on either sides of her face stepped out from behind an especially large oak tree that was to the right of the training ground he was currently on.
[...]
The sun blinded her when she stepped out of the shadows of the forest. She was still not used to it shining at all times of the day, warm and especially so bright, bathing the surrounding area in a friendly and welcoming light. Too many years had passed in which she had gotten used to the mist and rain that was brought by ocean waves and wind. Not that there wasn't any sun in Kirigakure, but it wasn't strong like here. Though, Sunagakure's sun was much stronger than this one, she supposed. She had rarely been there for long. Sayuri hesitated just at the edge of the forest, her eyes wandering over the low grass to the Great Gates right in front of her. It had been a long time since she had seen the entrance to the Hidden Leaf village outside of videos or pictures. Only one moment, years ago, had she come close enough to cast an eye upon it. Still, she could not deny the familiarity of the scenery. She recalled many moments as a child when she had run through this place, to go training, to go play, to go on a mission or just to run away from her father. Sayuri was a very different person back then. Someone who had a father and something of a brother. Both were dead now.
