Toady One, from the Dwarf Fortress Development Log:

We posted an Adventure mode beta over on Steam. There are lots of good bits to it but some missing bits as well, so we're slowing rolling it out this time, while still letting more people test it out and have some fun. A lot of the Adventure mode experience is there. You can currently, in the released beta, create a party in character generation, visit your old forts, retire, unretire, get NPC companions, take quests, fight monsters with the various melee/wrestling/ranged options, set fires, tell stories, and travel the world. Portraits are available for dwarves, humans, elves, goblins, kobolds (minus some clothing variations), animal people (no items), and necromancer experiments (no items). These portraits are in both modes. So there's fun to be had, but there's quite a bit more to do before we'll do the full launch. Non-exhaustively: Clean up the big crash issues etc. Quest log / information screen Butchering and crafting Ability use, from necromancy to pet animal to spit Composing Motion/attack indicators Building interactions (levers, doors, etc.) Wrestle button Stealth vision arcs Better UI for stuff like going through hatches over ramps Some other info like movement speed / encumbrance Tracking / odor / weather / light / time etc. information Some travel map stuff like visible armies and zooming and highlights Minimap / map memory Trading and bartering (and the town shops being generally a mess) Assuming false identities Full personality customization in chargen Graphics and audio that didn't make it in for the initial beta release Get Classic conversions for the new buttons etc. The new stuff: chosen mode with deities, town improvements, dungeon improvements, healing options, and so forth As we mentioned before, cabin building is a larger interface project, so that'll come with the update after the full launch. Omegaverse Headcanons

Packs often live either together or close by each other. Pack housing is usually like a house with most of the rooms having en suite bathrooms and sometimes kitchenettes. With usually shared spaces like living rooms. If they can't afford to live like that, then usually they meet up whenever they can (typically once a week)

Pups traditionally are born in and sleep in the nest for about five years.

There are two types of adoption: pack adoption and personal adoption. Personal is basically similar to real life. Pack adoption can be formal or informal. Legal pack adoptions heavily favour packs that live close together, but more scattered packs can be successful as well. All pack members must consent to the adoption, and pass inspection. In a pack adoption pups are raised communally, the legal guardians are the Pack Leaders. Pack adoptions go back much further than personal ones.

Any dynamic can run a pack. And a pack can contain any amounts of dynamics. You can have an all Omega Women pack with over one hundred members, or one with one of each dynamic.

Pups form pseudo packs starting at about five years old. These help them learn about boundaries, socialization, rules and punishments, and so on. These packs may shuffle their hierarchy and members often. Permanent packs don't typically start forming until after presentation.

The mental state known as "feral" is a response to trauma. They respond entirely on instinct. They are unlikely to be able to speak, but they may still understand packmates and their mate. The most common amount of time for someone to be feral is about three days. Though it scales depending on how much they are impacted by the trauma. The record that someone came naturally out of is two years.

A feral Alpha is going to be hyper protective of those around them, even the slightest scent of distress triggering aggressive posturing. However they aren't mindless violence machines. They also heavily map out their territory, scent marking EVERYTHING. They may be interested in mating if they already have a mate nearby. (do not mate with a feral partner, as they can not give meaningful consent). They also seek out and hoard food. (Alphas are PROVIDERS, this includes food!)

Feral Omegas do not want to leave their nests except for necessities. They will respond with aggression to any unfamiliar scent. if they wouldn't let you into their nest normally, they won't let you near them now. The exception is if you are unpresented. A feral Omega may try to coax you into their nest and care for you, becoming protective of this "pup" they have claimed. Like Alphas they scent very heavily and are very sensitive to other's scents. Feral Omegas are typically uninterested in mating unless they are in heat (a very dangerous situation as they will not have the state of mind to refuse advances)

Feral Betas are interesting because unlike Alphas and Omegas, Betas actively seek out strangers in their feral state. Betas do not respond well to distress and loud noises and will try to calm down the situation with their calming pheromones while being more and more stressed out themselves. Feral Betas also prefer high vantage points, as it is where they feel safest. Feral Betas do not seek out food often, only eating what they can find easily, and best receive food given by Alphas and Omegas, especially if they are from the same pack. (they do take food from non packmates as well, but not if they are also Betas.) Betas also do not like to be in one place long, unless they are surrounded by packmates.

With Alphas building Dens, Omegas Nesting and Betas Perching, the most traditional type of dwelling resembles a human sized cat tree. Box shaped Dens, nests inside, and tall towers that are communal spaces. Perches may include hammocks.

One of my teachers wanted me to bring him some of my writing, which, I'm terrified to do. But while scouring for something I could show him, I found this! Abandoned and unfinished aidrose from about a year ago😭

She didn't expect herself to start point out the irregularities of his face. The way his nose crooked, his bumpy textured skin, the way his jaw was almost bent in some places, the shape of his face almost a fracture in of itself. The whole of his face was almost a feature-full disaster, everything brimming with attention, every speckle of discoloration and every pore, though Cassie was uncertain whether that was because he was so weathered or if it was because she just was completely enamored by him.

She could imagine the sensation of his nose, every bump as her fingers rubbed it down. The way he melted into her hands like a tired bee into a buttercup, how he looked up to her with those eyes. Every pinprick of himself was a tiny bit of perfection, if perfection was a word that could even begin to describe how faultless and immaculate he was. The lightest scar could easily be re-found and retraced like routine by her, not a single bit untouched, like a dried plant in the desert tasting water again. Any moment without him was just a yearning eternity to press her face into his hands, his neck, whisper the sweetest melodies they could come up with and doze in each other's arms before remembering the world exists.

He touched her like a priest would the face of god. Hands not meant for loving, for holding—loving and holding something that could so easily be ripped away. Hands like his were made for hurting, and yet he held her like a broken bird, every gentle swipe of his thumb another promise, every coaxing slide of his fingers like a choir echoing under her skin. He didn't dare to pull away, afraid she'd crumble like a withered flower, which of course she would; depravation from his touch was like living without the sun rising in the morning or setting at night.

He made her want to scream, to rip her hair out and to break the ground under her til there was nothing left, nothing left but each other and the deafening silence of nothingness. A painless existence it would be just to have each other's company and no other thing in the world, freedom from responsibility, never needing to leave each other's side again. Oh how they got lost in those fantasies, fighting themselves to get up, unappeased by the fact that unfortunately, love is not an instant provider of vital necessities. But that only led to more. Following into the study, following into the kitchen; the inability to escape each other was a seething bubble of bliss, every second waiting to be scooped up from behind, rocked like two stupid fools over a crackling pan to cheesy songs that could barely grasp the feeling of love as they loved another.
