Seeking betareaders for New Adult fantasy, in exchange for printed copy

Hi! I've finished drafting and revising a 54,000 word New Adult fantasy novel, May Day. If the idea of a quick read with Arthurian and Welsh mythology, fairies that frighten rather than f*ck, and overcoming trauma interests you, this might be up your alley, and I'd love to have you as a potential beta reader!

[WARNING: part of the book is, unfortunately, set in Ohio.]

I'm primarily looking for first impressions, overall feedback, and anything more detailed that readers are willing to give me. Because I'm working toward the traditional agent representation / publishing route, this would be strictly pre-release and wouldn't require the posting of a review.

Two sequels to complete a trilogy are also finished and in need of fresh eyes, and the same offer extends to those.

If this interests you, I'll happily print and ship a paperback OR hard cover/dust jacket copy to you in exchange for honest feedback.

Beta reader profile

Here are things to consider before asking me to be your beta

ོ I have a life outside Tumblr and have a life on Tumblr; I post, I write and beta as something fun to do when I have time and wish. I don't get paid for it and so don't owe it to anyone. Please remember that.

ོ There are different levels of beta work that require different amounts of time. Therefore:

⤷ Please specify the amount of editing you would like. Just to read through it once and say if it flows is different than an in-depth edit.

⤷ Please be kind and considerate. Do not send me a request and expect me to edit it within 30 minutes. Before accepting to beta a work for you, I will tell you when I will have the time to do it.

⤷ Similarly please be polite, and respectful. If you send me a text and only say "edit" your request will be deleted.

⤷ Put some effort into it; do not just send me a huge chunk of text without paragraphs, without capital letters etc. You don't need to be perfect- far from it. I'm here to help you but I will not write it for you.

ོ For original fiction:

Please let me know what genre/theme/warnings your work has

How long it is/estimated to be + what you want me to look at

How many characters & if you have character profile sheets

World and world setting

Anything else that's essential for me to know

ོ For fanfiction:

First and foremost; what fandom and is your fic fandom specific? If its a fandom I'm unfamiliar with i may not be able to help you.

Please let me know what genre/theme/warnings your work has.

How long is the fic; do you want me to look at it all or parts?

ོ For new beta requests

Aside from the above; I'd like to ask you for a short sample of your writing

When would you need the edits to be done by.

Are you searching for a one time beta or longer cooperation?

ོ So, what do I actually beta?

⤷ Light grammar, language, and flow suggestions; such as notes on word repetition or better/alternative synonyms

⤷ Coherency; does it make sense? Is it resonable? Culturally, discipline etc. accurate?

⤷ Plot gaps & what do I do next/ how do I solve this?

⤷ Help with building characters, worlds, powers etc. including character development.

⤷ Generally I do not look at OOC unless its a longer or original works or I've agreed to it. You're always welcome to ask though.

⤷ Overall impressions and things to think about.

ོ I write and read dark fiction and NSFW content. If your work falls within these categories, let me know in your request and I'll let you know if I can or cannot help you.

ོ In some, certain cases I do co-writing.

There are things I won't touch with a ten-foot pole such as:

Pedophilia/minor-adult relations and huge age-gaps

Anything with animal abuse/use-in-inappropriate-way/bestiality,

Dead dove: you call it that and you're out even if its a trope I normally use/write for/do.

Cannibalism, vore and extensive in-depth long gore

Finally please remember that what I beta are suggestions, feedback and food-for-thought. I will not praise the ground you walk on; but you are also not required to consider my suggestions. If you do though; credit me at @ravencincaide and @ravencincaide-prompts.
