Jack Jegerke, the proud captor of three cats in the Great Bowling Green Neighborhood Cat Roundup, after leading his pals in the cleanup campaign conducted by the Bowling Green Neighborhood Association, March 28, 1925. More than a thousand homeless cats, ekeing out a filthy existence along the waterfront, were gathered in and given homes by the children.

Passenger Pigeon
Although the passenger pigeon is extinct, they still hold a tender place in everyone’s hearts. Hunted to extinction, the Passenger Pigeon used to come in huge flocks of billions. They used to be the most abundant bird in North America. This is part of the reason they went extinct, as efforts to breed them in captivity failed since they needed large flocks to meet their breeding criteria. Learn More!
Common Raven
The common raven is a very smart bird. They have even been found to be drawn to gunshot sounds, as they know hunters will often kill animals. People have always been fascinated by ravens, and in London it’s said that if the ravens of London tower ever leave the whole British empire will crumble! They’re also seen as tricksters in Pacific Northwest Native American tribes. In one myth, they are told to have brought fire to people by stealing the sun. Learn More! Much More

In April of 1929, the Birth Control Clinical Research Bureau in Greenwich Village was raided by police. They arrested five staff members, confiscated medical records, and tried to bully patients into giving them their names and addresses.
Their tactics backfired. The Bureau and its clinic in Brooklyn received an enormous amount of publicity, and many doctors protested the violation of doctor-patient confidentiality. When the case came to court on April 19, 1929, the judge ruled that the police had exceeded the scope of the search warrant he had issued, and the case was dropped.
