Reactions to Miracle Creator's Chapter 152

TL;DR - Info dump. Political struggles.

Information Dump The entire chapter was an info dump about the people of the Evil Faction. And it was a struggle to translate all the new names because MTL was messing the translations.

First off, let me correct myself. I was wrong. Halberd Demon is not the correct translation. It's actually Pinnacle Demon and she is an 80 year old woman. The author narrated her past and how she came to get that title. Pinnacle Demon was originally called Poison Demon. She wanted to reach the pinnacle of her poison arts, so she spent 20+ years researching numerous martial arts that would be compatible with her poison arts.

But it all failed. So she declared that she had reached the pinnacle, and renamed her title as Pinnacle Demon. The End.

Moving on, we get introduced to Ha Ryeong, the leader of the 72 Green Forest bandit groups and 18 Yangtze Waterway Stronghold bandits. Was that confusing? Yes, I was confused and overwhelmed too. To explain, Green Forest is actually a union of numerous bandit groups, thus the 72 and 18 something. I won't delve further because it's not that important.

There's the Iron Family Manor too. Up to this day, I'm still unsure of the correct translation of that. We did not get a background of this group, so the name might change in the future.

Sichuan Province was an important setting, as there were numerous GED forces there. In the Good Faction, there was the Emei School, a school made up of bhikkuni, female Buddhist monks or nuns. There was also the Tang Clan of Sichuan which specialized in poison and hidden weapons. And lastly, the Qingcheng School. With the introduction of the Qingcheng School, our list of the Nine Schools & One Gang is finally complete!

For the Evil Faction in Sichuan, there was the Black Sword Sect, bandits who charged passing merchants "taxes." And Pinnacle Demon and the Iron Family Manor.

Lastly, there was the Blue Merchant Guild, the presumed organization under the Blood Cult.

Given all these groups, Cale knew that Sichuan was a mess. But our Cale was smiling as he planned to create an even bigger mess. 😂

Political Struggles After the info dump was the political struggles. Mostly bickering and tension between the factions inside the Evil Faction. Oh yeah, we finally get to meet the rest of the Sima siblings. The eldest is Sima Seok, and the fourth one was Sima Tae.

Ending Remarks The chapter ended with Durst identifying 5 Living Jiangshi. And Sima Pyeong's guess that his eldest son and Ha Ryeong being Living Jiangshis was correct. As for LSH and CJS, they were present and tasked to subdue the Living Jiangshi.

Welp, this was a long and confusing chapter. Hopefully, next chapter is the purification.

Oh yeah, have you heard? Season 3 of the LCF manhwa will resume on July 14. Since the English Copin website is gone, I guess Tappytoons will continue the English translation. Not sure about Bilibili comics though.

personally my major critique of Buddhism in general is that even as the Buddha’s reworking of the Brahminical karmic concept is an obvious ‘improvement’, the entire idea can’t really be redeemed, and in Buddhism this often kind of leads to an inherent integral tendency to what we would call ‘victim blaming’. In many narratives, it’s already there when the Buddha leaves home after seeing the dancing girls passed out after a party: it’s certainly there in the canonical tale of why the bhikkunis need an entirely seperate set of rules in the sangha. My hot take is that a lot of the weirdest takes from bell hooks come from her Buddhist influence like this, because it’s a recurring feature in Thich Nhat Hanh

Among many other teachings that prevailed during the Buddha's time, Siddhartha Gautama Buddha's teachings gained immense popularity among people from different backgrounds.

People were confused about which religious teacher to follow and with all of theses different orders of asceticism with many different beliefs, people were conflicted. But when Buddha's wise words backed up by actual evidence of the absolute truth of his teachings, people couldn't help but draw into Buddhism. With his pleasant demeanor, sharp wisdom, sagacious choice of words, the relatability of the teachings, kindness and many other wonderful qualities, Siddhartha Gautama Buddha who hailed from the Sakya clan became highlighted among other teachers like a lotus bloomed in the middle of a muddy pond. Men from different backgrounds followed him. Kings, princes, treasurers, warlords, merchants, householders and even those who belonged in the lower ranks of the society followed the Buddha and entered the order of the Sangha.

Women of all backgrounds, queens, wives, mothers, courtesans, dancers and musicians left their homes and entered the Bhikkuni order in search of Nibbana. The Gautama Buddha taught everyone the path of enlightenment with no secrets kept. His resonating wisdom and teachings are valid even today and they will be eternally salvage beings from the shackles of Samsara.

Buddhism, like Jainism, adopted the idea of Bhikkuni or nuns but did so on a much vaster scale:

In early to medieval Buddhism, when it was both the state religion and then a major religion in India (prior to Upanishad-era Hinduism co-opting the Buddha as an Avatar of Vishnu), women as Bhikkunis, or nuns, played a significant role in consolidation of the Sangha. This was a creation of the time of Siddartha Gautama himself, though part of the reason (not all of it but this was the organizational excuse) for the collapse of nuns outside specific parts of the Mahayana tradition was the idea of unbroken ordination chains, and those of women just 'happened' to lapse while those of men did not.

This is a very distinct contrast with the much more limited roles for women in early Brahmanic and Vedic cultures, and one of the unspoken reasons for the swift rise and ascension of Hinduism beyond the power of the state. Like Christianity Buddhism spread first among the marginalized, of whom women were decidedly in that category. Unlike the Church the Sangha did rather more to remember this.

For more than 1,000 years, there were no Bhikkunis in Sri Lanka: their line had died out following years of persecution at the hands of the mainly-Hindu southern Indian kings who had waged war on the island nation.

And then, in 1998, the first new nuns in a millennium were ordained. By the end of the year, there were 150. Today, it is thought there are more than 4,000, some as young as six.

But not everyone was happy. The chief prelates argued that the Bhikkuni Order could not be re-established until the next Buddha appeared, as there are no nuns with higher ordination in the Buddhist tradition practiced in Sri Lanka; and some opposed their very existence.

"Even when Buddha gave permission for a chapter of nuns originally, he hesitated because females are very feeble in this world and can be harassed by others," a monk called Manta Bhani told the BBC in 1998.

Six years later, the right to an identity card was taken away.

bell hooks used to take TNH to task for a certain conservativism in his work

there’s a narratively interesting one in his Old Path, White Clouds, which is his telling of the Buddha’s life. It concerns the Buddha setting the different rules for Bhikkus and Bhikkunis in the sangha.

Not normally a psychological novel, the book normally portrays the Buddha in proper beatific light. But suddenly in these passages there’s doubt and not a lot of explication or shadowing. The Buddha simply states the rules: no description of his warmth, comfort or smile. The other heads of the Sangha debate this, questioning the Buddha on the misogynist character: he remains calm and unresponsive, which suddenly here seems almost terrible. the chapter ends with Sariputta just saying “this is unreasonable: no one will understand or forgive us.” Then the book just picks up the next chapter

Five Desires: In Volume 7 of Collection of Scriptures, Bhagava Bhikkhu Gaoju said

That women have five desires: “

1. The desire to be born in a wealthy family;

2. The desire to be married with a wealthy man;

3. The desire that the husband can obey her and fulfill all of her wishes;

4. The desire to have many children;

5. The desire to have power in the family.“

The Eight Aspects: In Dhammapada, Udayana said: “Seductive and alluring women have eighty-four ugly aspects, within eight major categories, thereby disgusting the wise. What are they?

1. Jealousy

2. Anguish

3. Rebuke

4. Curse

5. Hatred

6. Greed

7. Vanity

8. Malevolence

...“

The Ten Evils: In Sujata Sutra, the Buddha told Sujata: “Normal women have ten penances since their birth. What are they?

1. Parents are not joyous when women are born.

2. Women are cast low in their upbringing.

3. Women are inherently cowardice and afraid of strange people.

4. Parents are always worried about marriage of women.

5. Women must leave their natural parents after marriage.

6. Women live in the husband’s shadow; when the husband is happy, they are happy, when the husband is unhappy, they begin to fear.

7. They must endure great pain when delivery.

8. Women are restricted since their childhood.

9. Women are contained by their husbands as wives.

10. Women are detested by their grandchildren in old age.

Women are not free from their birth to death. Yet normal women treat these sufferings as happiness without the awareness of their own situation.“

The Eighty-Four Gestures: In Sujata Sutra, the Buddha told Sujata: “ Good looking is not the true beauty. Only the face cleansed of eighty-four ugly aspects can have the true beauty.”The Buddha said that the alluring attitudes of women are corruptive.

They have eighty-four gestures to delude themselves and others. Such gestures are evil.

From Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī Bhikkuni Sutra, the Buddha told Ananda:

“The eighty-four aspects of women can delude themselves and others on mental or attitude perspectives. They make people fail to follow the path of samma.“

The Buddha explained the various gestures of women in details, including: Fixing their eyebrows, Dressing themselves up; Combing their hair, Fiddling with the hairs in forehead; Putting on makeup, Deluding their husbands; Being a high maintenance housewife, Squinting; Applying lipstick; Wearing earrings; Wearing necklaces, jewelries, braces, and other trinkets; Loving all extravagant clothing; And wearing socks, Showcasing their curves; Swinging their two arms when walking, Making deliberate gestures, Attracting others’ attention; Leering others, Enhancing their enchantment; Glimpsing other’s privacy; And so on.

In the Pratītyasamutpāda Sutra, “an arhat, with his heavenly vision, saw many women fallen into the hell. He asked the Buddha: “Why?” The Buddha said: “For four causes”:

First, their greed towards luxuries;

Second, their jealousy towards each other;

Third, their loquacity;

And fourth, their lusty gestures (obscene forms).

That is why many of them fell to hell!””

... In Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī Bhikkuni Sutra, the Buddha also told Ananda that if they can improve their bad habits, destroying the gestures one by one, then they can only crave for the connection, the path, and the Buddha. By such, they can reap the results as an arhat.

In Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra, the Buddha said that by becoming close to knowledge, listening to the dharma, understanding the truth, and practicing the dharma, then mahā-puruṣa lakṣaṇa (physical characteristics of the Buddha) can be achieved.

If women can achieve that, then they can gain such characteristics as well.

If men cannot achieve that, they cannot be said to have such characteristics.

Why? They seem to have such characteristics on the outside, but they act no better than animals and so they possess no wisdom!

Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra says that the only difference between men and women lies in “whether or not they can know the Buddha.” The Buddha said: “ If one does not know the Buddha, then they are not men because they fail to know that they can know the Buddha. If one is unable to know the Buddha, then they are women. If one is aware of that Buddha can be known, then he gains the mahā-puruṣa lakṣaṇa.

If a woman can know that she has mahā-puruṣa lakṣaṇa, then that woman should be a man.“

So the gender equality in the dharma refers to the equality in the Buddha. Śūraṃgama-samādhi-sūtra says: “ Once bodhicitta (enlightened mind) emerges, the differences of men and women can be surpassed because the mind of Buddha does not contain such differences.”

In Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra, the Buddha said that good men and good women all hope to be men. Why? Because women are the evils incarnate. Just as a hundred rivers flow into the sea and the sea is not full, the women are not satisfied and full of everything.

If everything becomes a man, that cannot satisfy a woman’s desires either.

He also said: “So we must always berate those with women’s characteristics, making them hope to become men.”The Buddha insisted: “Because mahā-puruṣa lakṣaṇa is the Buddha’s characteristics!”

The Buddha said: “Women intend to be harsh, envious, flattering, and greedy. If one can be withdrawn from all the failures of women, acting as a man does, gaining as a man does, a man I should call to that woman!”Though in a woman’s body, if one can eradicate a woman’s habits and walk towards the great deeds of becoming Buddha, that woman shall be a man!

2. Vanvas 1.0(aka pre-Yuddha) and Vanvas 2.0 are different; 1.0 Sita wearing a Kasaya(Kasava in Pali) which have a similar color to a bhikku/bhikkuni's robe and having a panther/leopard's hide here(based on Thai ver, here I will show)

While 2.0, the tone is "sad" and symbolizes grief and solitude,it seems like she's wearing old clothes or the colorful parts of her life had been "worn out"

3. Ayodhaya's bride based from this animation called "Xia Wudong the Kind boy"(Here, spoiling that it's an Uyghur folktales) It's the princess' dress.

4. And the 3 other fashion sets are when she's in Mithila,plus that she and her sisters would likely influenced the women of Ayodhaya to changed from the Persian-ish (cloak,in the FRIKKIN hot plains and steppes)to something chilly(Stapidhana,Antariya,Sari and etc.) :3
