7, 12, 16, 18, 20 - that's a lot so take your pick, I just always like seeing your opinions
right back at you! was secretly hoping you would reblog the game :)
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
never really encountered this phenomena before cobra kai except for the vaguest hint of an aversion to samwise gamgee after everyone kept calling him the "real hero," but that aversion never took, and i'm ashamed to admit such weakness even now.
johnny lawrence was one of my favorite characters in cobra kai season one and then i logged onto tumblr and now i just Do Not Get It. a feeling i think from pre-season 3, even, when he was still a good and consistent character in the show. another character was robby. predictably, he was a bit babygirlified and he got soooo much more attention than sam and tory and even miguel and tbh, that made me pout massively. like. i don't care about him :(
i could be intellectual about this (and, okay, clearly the root of this petty hate is that particular sort of frustration that comes over a girl when all the boys in her fourth grade gym class get mad at her for being faster than them and then they refuse to let her play in their recess soccer game even though she's the best player--and it then sticks with her for the rest of her life) but in a vacuum i probably wouldn't feel the way i do. like, my ire is definitely in response to how other people feel about the bully character from 80's sports movie karate kid.
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
you can bet that any female character that has ever been called annoying is at the top of this list. feels like girls like that are always popping up and torturing pop-culture consumers. the only one i can name right now is sam larusso, since that's the most recent model.
but also i read pride and prejudice in seventh grade. didn't get a single word of it, but i did understand that mrs. bennett was extremely annoying. then i read it again a few years later and have been her fierce defender ever since. female characters with high-pitched voices and anxiety: i adore. if you don't like those characters, in my head im thinking you're only as intelligent as me at 13.
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
any sort of portrayal of spock as someone who is violent and angry and just holding it back constantly bc he hates being half human--i do Not Get It. any sort portrayal of an alien species on star trek in which the aliens learn to embrace their humanity, or something. like, i can't stand it.
i want spock to be super-duper logical and stoic. i want that to be a good thing. i want all alien characteristics to be embraced and explored. i want the weirdness. new trek just isn't doing weirdness enough! and if human morality and social structures are so universally important, stop being cowardly and explain whyyyyy.
this also applies to fanfic which is, in fact, disastrously worse on this subject. especially fanfic based on the 2009 star trek movie.
but okay it's like---the roswell conspiracy is really fun and stuff cause it is really just the government stoking some nonsense so the russians can't figure out all the special-stupid weapons and spy-equipment they're making. and then it means that everything in roswell, nm is alien themed: little green faces everywhere, three-fingered hands waving at you on billboards, "greetings earthlings," 50's era space-art, and so on. I am very into that aesthetic, especially in the middle of nowhere southwest desert with not a mountain or forest for hundred of miles. of course people were looking up and being like "there must be Something out there. look how big."
all good, yes, and silly. but people really believe it and they really believe that the aliens look the way they do! the way the "witnesses" described little looking men with big ol eyes in a big ol head and extra long arms. sweeties! that's a primate! that's an earth-creature! there's no imagination! there's no weirdness! what if the aliens didn't have a face. what if they didn't have eyes! what if they were made of a chalky substance that molted every few minutes to maintain a needed basic pH and their way of observing electromagnetic radiation was not light projected thru a lens but like little pores of mucous all over their body like the one's on sharks (ampullae of lorenzini) that absorb electromagnetic radiation and also give the creature poles which means they can block all visible light with special mind powers and maybe photosynthesize or something.
i realize that fanfiction is largely concerned with two attractive men going at it, but for all that people claim to be "monster fuckers," that really hasn't borne out in star trek fanfic. explore eroticism with the weird, with the actually alien. i want that. that'd be great. i know octavia butler and others already Did That but i want to see a star trek go boldly, you know what i mean. also, i want something more like eroticism for the sake of the erotic--not as metaphor about feminine subjugation or something (no offense ms. butler).
even if that doesn't happen, would love to read a fanfic or watch a tv show in which, for example, spock's journey is not about how oppressive being a vulcan is, or whatever.

62. seven characters you relate to?
SEVEN??? oh my god okay let's try
alex claremont-diaz from red white and royal blue. we're different in many things but his gay awakening was so similar to mine, and i'm also a disaster bisexual 🤝
addie larue from the invisible life of addie larue, because i'd also rather sell my soul to satan in exchange for freedom ok i know this isn't exactly what happened but still
henry strauss also from the invisible life of addie larue. i had a time in my life when i felt very much like him -- no i won't elaborate, sorry this already feel so personal lmao but i sobbed my eyes out reading this book
jo march from little women. she's just like me for real <3
sam gamgee from lotr. i feel like it's hard to push me out of my comfort zone but i'd do a lot of things for my friends. also i can fight tooth and nail for something if i really want it
luna lovegood, my fellow infp bestie
chloe green from i kissed shara wheeler. another disaster bi, another me

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Thanks....
Thank you for this ask! I'm bi and have adhd so narrowing this down is hard lmao but here goes:
Andrew Minyard, AFTG - this should shock no one. I love him because of his fierce determination to keep going and work towards recovery even when life keeps punching him in the face.
Neil Josten, AFTG - also not a shock. I love him because of his resilience, his clear-eyed assessment of himself even when he's making bad decisions, and his struggle to find a way to be a real person after a lifetime of being a chameleon.
Valancy Stirling, The Blue Castle - a favorite from my teens because of her humor and defiance.
Elizabeth Bennet, Pride and Prejudice - love the book, the Jennifer Ehle portrayal, and the Keira Knightley portrayal though each is a bit different. Her humor and wry observations of everyone around her, and the way she opens her mind while staying true to herself, are always amazing.
Aedion Ashryver, Throne of Glass series - actually I hated him in Kingdom of Ash but loved him in the previous books so I pretend KoA didn't happen. His intense loyalty and clever ability to work around and manipulate people while leaning into his image as a dumb warrior brute just got to me.
Lucivar Yaslana, Daemon Sadi, and Saetan all tied from Black Jewels Trilogy - honestly each read gives me a different favorite. Love Lucivar for much the same reasons as Aedion; love Daemon's fight for recovery and determination to survive, much like Andrew; and Saetan is the father figure everyone needs. (Also - Ladvarian from this series for being just perfect in every way.)
Yelena Zaltana, Poison Study/the Study Series - she's a survivor through and through. The entire series is about her recovering and coming into her own, both magically and emotionally.
Samwise Gamgee and Eowyn from Lord of the Rings - another tie, yes I'm cheating. Sam's strength, love, and loyalty; Eowyn's rejection of her social role and determination to fight and lead her people.
Jo March, Little Women - again, the book, Winona Ryder's portrayal and Saoirse Ronan's portrayal all are moving in different ways, but her independence, love for her family, and sheer willpower to live her life on her terms.
Westley from The Princess Bride - not sure if I need to explain this, he's hilarious and perfect

I’ve been in the Tolkien fandom for eons now and it still flummoxes me how much hate/dismissal Rosie Cotton gets just for being Sams canon love interest. Like, Frodo Baggins did not invite Rosie to Bag End (in what could very easily be read as a queer-platonic/polyamorous arrangement without too much effort) just for y’all to kick up a tantrum because your mlm ship didn’t end up exclusively together, you cowards.

→ bisexual SAMWISE GAMGEE icons.
[ID: 3 circular icons of Samwise Gamgee from the Lord of The Rings movies. Sam is a hobbit with curly blonde hair and green eyes, wearing a grey cloak and carrying a rucksack. Behind him in these icons is the bisexual pride flag: a thick pink stripe, a thin purple stripe, and a thick blue stripe.
The first icon shows Sam with a distressed expression on his face. He’s holding something out with his left arm, and seems to be bracing himself for something.
The second icon shows Sam turned to the side, holding a sword with both hands. He’s looking up at something above the camera.
The third icon shows Sam crouching and watching something. His head is tilted slightly to the side, and he has a thoughtful expression on his face. /End ID]

Imagine you're Rosie Cotton. Your boyfriend comes home from The War and he's like, "Gee, I want to get married but I had my heart set on moving in with my best friend who I routinely profess my love to, no homo." And then the best friend is like, "We can all live together!" and so you move in with your boyfriend's boyfriend and act like everything is totally normal.

I saw @roselightfairy do this and, since the post said anyone was invited to do it, I thought I would. This has been my most productive year and I want to take the time to reflect about it and put it in words ^^
2021 Year-End Fic Review
How many stories did you complete?
22 fanfics ranging from 300 words to 12k, plus a novel that I had already started last year.
What is your total word count for the year?
55k in published Tolkien fanfics
90k in Tokien fanfics that are yet to be published or completed
15k in finishing a novel
10k in correcting another
18k in beginning a third one
What fandoms did you write in this year?
Tolkien, exclusively, although both Hobbit and LOTR
Did you write more, less, or roughly about what you expected?
Much more than expected when it came to fanfics -but less than what I had hoped when it came to my own stories. Then again, that’s hardly surprising, since they take more time to planify, and I am working and studying at the same time.
What’s your own favorite story of the year?
Now, that’s a difficult one. I have to name Terra Incognita, my fic in which Faramir has only ever bedded men and Éowyn has only ever bedded girls, and neither has found the courage to tell the other for social and cultural reasons -I had so much fun writing that story for one of my OTPs of all time. But To kill a dragon (in which cryptanalyst Bilbo finds a secret agent and 13 Jews scaping the Reich under his roof in 1941) is also very dear to me because of its message and how much I learnt writing it. And what I am needs no excuses, however (in which Sam needs from the 40s to the 80s to understand that he is in love with Frodo) is a fic in which I poured my soul, and it’s given me the sweetest comments I have ever received.
On the other hand, I really love the novel I am writing right now, so there’s that, too.
What is your most underappreciated story of the year?
Uh, that’s a difficult one, too. I always hope Surpises (a high school Fíli/Sigrid/Ori) will get more love, but I am aware of how rare the pairing is, so I understand it doesn’t get a lot of attention. The Queen’s favour is not doing bad, but I think it could do better (lesbian Bilbo and Thorin in corsets! Having sex in a maze! Come on!). And what I am needs no excuses is not doing bad, either, but I would love if it got more attention, and not only for selfish reasons -when people write comments on it they really seem to enjoy it.
Biggest fanfic-related disappointment of 2021
Mmmm I couldn’t really say.
Biggest fanfic-related surprise of 2021?
So many! I would have to mention @determamfidd completing Sansûkh, of course, and learning that @perkynurples and @alienfuckeronmain planned to keep on writing for the Tolkien fandom were big joys as well. If you are in the Spanish Harry Potter fandom you know what it means that Irati has announced the Marauder!Crack will be republished and extended this year -fucking huge. And I still can’t belive Allora Gale would add new chapters to Dauntless after all this time.
Last but not least, my Terra Incognita was translated to Chinese, which I wasn’t expecting at all and still can’t belive.
Something you’re looking forward to working on in 2022?
So many things! I have tons of works planned, but I am particularly looking forward to keep on working in my WWII in Middle Earth AU, a Very Long Thing that I hope to publish the following year.
