Day 31: Frogs, Gnats, and Flies, Exodus 8, Leviticus 6 and Psalm 48.

NOTES: The Bible can be a flashlight a mirror or sandpaper. It can show us things, it can reveal things to us that we didn’t know about ourselves and it can help refine us and take off our “rough” edges. Pharaoh is funny, he wants rid of the plague, but he wants rid of it tomorrow. We sometimes are the same way. We don’t change for the better right away, but rather change for the better, tomorrow. Is it not better to change for the better for today? Temptation, the flesh, the world does such a good job to get us to procrastinate. We need to pray to the Holy Spirit to ask his help to give us the strength to do the good thing today.

January 17th: Genesis 43 - 45

Highlights:

Joseph’s brothers make their second trip to Egypt; with Benjamin

Joseph has his brothers over to his house for a meal

Joseph ordered his servants to put his silver cup into Benjamin's bag

"But you must place my cup, the silver cup, in the mouth of the bag of the youngest." -Genesis 44:2 NWT

The next morning, when his brothers headed off, Joseph ordered his servants after them, claiming they stole his cup

The silver cup was soon found in Benjamin's bag

The rest of the siblings where allowed to return home, but Benjamin was to stay as a slave

Judah pleaded for Benjamin

"Your slave gave a guarantee to my father for the boy, saying, ‘If I fail to bring him back to you, then I will have sinned against my father forever.’ So now, please, let your slave stay instead of the boy as my master’s slave, in order that the boy may return with his brothers. How can I return to my father without the boy along with me? I could not bear looking on when this calamity befalls my father!” - Genesis 44: 32 - 34 NWT

Joseph finally revealed his identity to his brothers

They embrace and weep

They return home to get their father, and bring him to Egypt to survive the famine

Happy day friends! . Last week I was in Florida and had a wonderful time with friends and family and I’m not sad to be back because I have another week off with my youngest son. Not only that but it’s 80° here in Wisconsin so it’s as lovely as it was in Florida minus the private pool we had at the house we rented. But as you know I love my deck and so I’m spending a lot of time on it trying to write. I’m trying to map out the dreams and desires of all of my characters so I can understand the story better though I’m struggling a bit. . However I am staring at a bright red cardinal right now while my dog with her new halo collar is roaming the yard free. I am on day 97 of my Bible in a year podcast with father Mike Schmitz from Duluth Minnesota Through which I am getting to know my God a lot better and I am also getting to know myself better. I am truly not my best self but God wants to fight for me and as long as I let him he will win my battles for me because he loves me and I will strive to do better. And this morning it was announced that father Dan Felton will be the new bishop in Duluth Minnesota. He was the pastor at a school I taught at for a couple of years and also was born in the small town of Mackville where my mom was born so it’s very exciting news for a very deserving priest. .
