Back at it with the Sansûkh readthrough
Yes, I know it's been months since I last posted something on this blog. School and life got so crazy during the second half of 2021 (fuck animal physiology, yo), so this just got put off to the wayside. Regardless, school has been a bit kinder to me this semester and I'm ready to continue reading this wonderful fanfic.
Sansûkh Chapter 6: Reactions, Thoughts and Review:
Hey! I'm finally reading this on my desktop, so it will be far easier for me to read and record my thoughts at the same time. Yay!
Right off the bat, there is a mention of Erebor facing terrible winters, which I really appreciate. I'm a big fan of the "Hobbit Under the Mountain" AU, but I don't think enough fics make note of how hard it would be during those first few months/years after the reclamation of Erebor. While I definitely enjoy the more lighthearted stories that focus on Bagginshield fluff, I always commend the stories that aren't afraid to shy away from that. This fic clearly doesn't. - On a side note, I'm reminded of the fic "The Riven Crown", which also covers the hardships after the BotFA. If you're like me and like your Bagginshield fanfic to have a bit of grit and tension alongside a hearty bit of fluff, I highly recommend it.
I've said this before, but the way Bifur's condition has deteriorated since the start of the story is all too real for me. Without turning this into an emotion dump, I will say that seeing Bifur restored and in a place where he can be reunited with family is very comforting to me.
The whole argument between Dáin, Óin and Dwalin about the gold gives greater significance to the Dwarves' possessiveness over their treasures. While it's easy to brush off their obsession with gold as simple greed, it does have cultural value to the dwarves as well. The gold is a part of their heritage, and to be forced to part with some of it due to an agreement made by a handful of outsiders under the threat of war would be upsetting, to say the least.
I don't have much to say about the tavern scene as a whole. It's nice to get some character interactions and to give Nori a bit of a spotlight. The mentions of Dori were fun, especially the talk of him being "the epitome of Dwarven male beauty". Very unique take on an underutilized character.
Oof, that scene with Dwalin definitely hit hard. Short but sweet, nothing more, nothing less. A very poignant scene about the difficulties of surviving in just a few sentences.
Balin... Nooooo. A part of me forgot about the fact that Balin would have to travel to, and die, in the mines of Moria. This is the first scene, I think, that directly leads to an event referenced in the Lord of the Rings. It's hard reading this scene knowing exactly what happens and how it turns out, but just like Thorin, we're only able to watch helplessly.
We're definitely moving beyond the scope of The Hobbit and moving into LoTR material with this chapter. I don't have a ton to talk about with this chapter, but I do want to mention how much I like the way the author does mid-chapter scene transitions. Transitions are very clear in both tone and writing, making it very clear to the reader when the setting has shifted (e.x. switching from a scene with lighthearted interactions with Bifur to a serious, angry discussion with Dain, Dwalin and Oin). I like the new political focus this chapter had, and giving Dain more time to shine is always welcome. The tension has begun to build and I can't wait to read more.

About/Rules/Verses
Hello, and welcome to my Bofur RP blog. This post is a HUGE wall of text, if you are on desktop and would like to see it a little tidier, please see the separate pages in the sidebar to the right.
Promo Post Found Here
About the Mun
1. Firstly I am over 30, own a house, have a husband, 1 baby, 2 cats, and a wealth of commitments and responsibilities. I will do my best to reply in a timely manner, but will state up front that sometimes life gets in the way.
2. I am in EST and work M-F from 9-5, plus a half hour commute. Please understand that I can not post from work, and will not be posting during those times.
3. In addition, I am Mom to a very active toddler who is my priority over writing and who’s nap schedule tends to dictate when I can post.
4. My native language is English, though I can understand French, and a little bit of Spanish and Japanese. Don’t bank on me carrying on a decent conversation in any of those languages though.
About the Blog
1. When I first set up this blog I didn’t realize that secondary blogs can’t follow back, ask, or submit. My main blog name is Saffity, so if you see that blog follow you, it’s me. If I send an ask or submit, I will mention this blog name so you don’t get confused.
2. My inbox, ask, etc. is open. Please feel free to write me any starters, questions, or whatever.
3. Please send any critiques or suggestions to me. I’ve been on Tumblr forever, but have never really been a poster. If you see me doing basic noob mistakes with my posts that can be easily fixed, please let me know.
4. I will be tracking #yourehomesickiunderstand so please use that tag with our threads.
Mun’s Playing Style
1. I prefer my Bofur straight. I understand Boffins and other ships and have no qualms with them, I’ve been known to enjoy a good fluff fic once in a while, but this Bofur is straight.
2. Please send me an ask or fan mail if you would like our characters to have an already established relationship, I’m totally cool with it. I respond to all cannon characters as known as it shows in the books or movies, but if you are an OC and want something other than a “Nice to meet you” please let me know first.
3. I’m willing to do some fluffies, but not full on smut, if the thread calls for smut (which will often happen), I’ll fade to black when I’ve gone as far as I feel comfortable with. (Don’t worry, I’ll fade when I’m ready, you’ll never get any angry messages from me about going too far.)
4. Bofur here is multiverse, au, indie, whatever you want to call it. I’m sure he’ll fit into whatever crossover or world you decide to drop him in, he’s very easy going after all.
5. I tend to write in the past tense, third person. If you’d prefer a different style, just let me know and I’ll try to accommodate.
6. I’m bad with my images, so bad! I’m still figuring everything out, so if I’ve royally screwed something up, please let me know and I will delete and repost correctly.
7. I am super okay with editing anything I write if it doesn’t jive with your character or where you want the plot to go, please just let me know.
8. I mainly play on mobile, as such, I’m not able to cut my posts down. Please do so whenever you feel the need/want, I won’t be upset.
Head Cannons that go across all verses
1. Bofur has a Northern Irish accent and his hat, always his hat.
2. Bofur has named his hat Bundushathur, which in Khuzdul means “Cloudyhead” and will sometimes refer to his hat as a sleeping rabbit. If Khuzdul does not exist in the verse (like Modern) then the hat is called Cloudyhead and still referred to as a rabbit.
3. Bofur is the everyman, he isn’t special or high born. He is good natured, friendly, and the world’s best wingman, even if it means connecting someone he pines after with someone else. He would rather see them happy and keep their friendship than try to force his feelings on them or lose their friendship because of his pride.
4. The main characteristic about Bofur is that he is unimportant in the hierarchy of society.
Main Verse - The Hobbit/LOTR
Bofur is 4'6" but fairly thin for a dwarf.
Bofur is a dwarf who’s family line comes from Moria. He is of the mining class. He was born and raised in Ered Luin with his brother. Shortly after Bofur became an adult, his parents died, leaving him to raise his brother. Shortly after that, Bifur was injured in an orc attack. Bofur and Bombur took Bifur in, however there were a number of difficult years as they all got used to Bifur’s new personality.
Once Bifur was stable enough, the brothers decided it would be a good idea to head out and find new customers for their skills. They ended up at Bree, opening up a shop to sell Bifur’s fabulous toys, and offer tinkering services.
During their stay in Bree, Bombur got married to a passing female dwarf and moved his overly large family near the shop. Bifur and Bofur live together in living quarters at the back of the shop, Bombur lived with them until he got married.
Bofur travels around Middle Earth, usually west of the Misty Mountains, and most often between Bree and Ered Luin by way of the Shire. He collects supplies, sells wares, and visits many friends and family that are about the lands.
When Thorin calls for assistance in taking back Erebor, Bofur and his kin lock up their shop and head for the Shire.
After the quest they settle in Erebor, though Bofur heads back to Bree to close up their shop and settle accounts prior to settling in for a long life of enjoying his 14th share of the treasure.
Head Cannons that can totally change if my partner is a Bifur or Bombur
1. Bofur’s father was killed in Moria at the battle of Azanulbizar, his Mother died in an Orc attack when Bofur was in his 40s. He has taken care of his brother ever since.
2. Bofur took Bifur in after Bifur was orphaned as well, the three are like brothers, having shared the experience of loss and growing up together.
3. Bombur stopped speaking after their mother died. Bofur’s tried to get him to speak, and has managed to get him to speak sometimes, but usually just small replies and often with much prodding. Bifur and Bombur use the same sign language to speak to each other and those who don’t speak Khuzdul. Bofur takes care of both of them and is the one who speaks to customers.
Modern Verse
High School
Bofur is not popular, though he’s friendly and basically knows everyone. He enjoys shop class, classical music, and historical literature.
Studious and hard working, Bofur can often be found with his nose in a book, when not sitting on the bleachers playing the tin flute he always has on him.
College Student
Bofur is a TA in college. His major is historical literature, and his goal is to eventually become a professor. His passion is delving into historical fanatasy from cultures other than England and Western Europe.
He enjoys learning languages in order to read what he is researching in its original state.
General Modern Adult
In most modern adult verses Bofur is a general labourer, most often a janitor. If he is a teacher, he teaches music and drama.
Ice Cream Shop
Bofur runs a small home made ice cream shop that is part of a coffee shop run with a companion or family member (his partner can be any member of the company). He makes a variety of flavours, and offers lactose and gluten free varieties.
He prides himself on being able to guess his customers’ favourites on sight (like the movie Chocolat).
Marvel
Bofur is a janitor within shield. He can be found on the helicarrier, within the Avengers training base, or basically anywhere the heroes may be destroying things that need to be cleaned up.
While he is quiet and without powers, he has wisdom and a patient ear to lend to those supers who require a moment to vent.
Star Trek
This is the only verse where Bofur stands out. Bofur is a red shirt, but by some miraculous turn of events, he has gone on a number of away missions and made it back alive. Poor Bofur would love to get off the enterprise with his life, and shirt, in tact, but it appears some of the higher officers like to see him lose his mind and suggest him for more away missions, even if only in jest.
Head cannons that exist in all modern verses
1. Bofur and his family are from Northern Ireland, though Bofur travels around, goes to school abroad, and in general can pop up anywhere in the world.
2. Bofur is short for a male - 5'6", with a stocky build, and fairly strong.
3. Bofur’s younger brother Bombur is still at home (or married with kids depending on their age).
4. Bofur’s parents took Bifur in after he got injured during Armed Forces training, as Bofur’s family lives closer to the rehab resources that Bifur requires.

hi i just wanna say i really enjoy ur blog- your drawings are full of emotion and movement. i also really enjoy your text posts about hobbit thoughts and such! question: do you have any unpopular hobbit/lotr opinions? and what are some of your headcannons that are canon in your mind?
Dear Anon,
Mahal help me, you made my day *-* I’m so happy to know this, thanks so much!!!! Expecially because you love my silly text posts LOL
Anyway, excellent question, I never thought at it before, but now you ask me... let’s see!
I post the answers under “read more” because  don’t like long posts and I think this will be a very long text post LOL
About unpopular hobbit/lotr opinions...
One of my thoughts that is not widely shared is my aversion to Old Bilbo (I saw first movies and then read book, only The Hobbit ^^’). Yes, I don’t like Old Bilbo, he doesn’t seems nice and smart and sweet like young Bilbo. I always don’t like him, so when I saw The Hobbit for the first time I didn’t was so happy to see it because I believe to not like the main character... BUT!!! I loved your Bilbo and I became The Hobbit fan LOL
Another unpopular opinions... well is Nofur of course xD I love so much this rare ship, but very few people love it. Boffins and Nwalin are more famous, so few people like or see at Nofur. But I think that this ship is very nice and sweet, it has a lot of potential for a lot of different stories with different genres :3
The last unpopular opinion is I don’t like Legolas and elves in general ^^’ I prefer dwarves because they are less haughty, they don't believe themselves to be perfection, they are not incredibly strong like them, and most of all they have feelings and drama behind their backs that make them more empathetic for me!
Time to headcanon... Eheh this will be really long LOL
First of all, Bofur's hat. I have already explained my headcanon in a text post and in my old fic, so it is not new. In my opinion Bofur wears the hat to be recognized by Bifur. Before adopting the little Bofur and Bombur, Bifur was a mercenary who fought for money. But once the boys were adopted, he quit this job and he became a toymaker. But one day, to raise more money to allow the two boys a better life, Bifur decides to leave as an escort for a caravan.  Before leaving, Bifur gives Bofur the hat and braids Bombur's beard, then leaves. He comes back seriously injured and with major mental injuries. Basically, he recognizes his two cousins, but in moments of madness he remembers his cousins in the last moments he saw them, so he doesn't recognize Bofur without a hat and Bombur without a braid. That's why they both have this typical style!
Thorin and Fili relationship.
I think Thorin is strict and authoritarian with Fili not only because he is the crown prince and will one day become king, but also for more personal matters. We know that Fili is very similar to Frenir, Thorin's young brother who died in the battle of Moria, the brother Thorin was unable to save. In my opinion, Thorin fails to relate well to Fili because he sees his missing brother in his nephew, and as Thorin hates himself for failing to protect him, he coldly treats Fili to harm himself. Thorin is angry with himself and Fili pays the consequences.
Bombur first son.
As we can see, since the first movie Fili helps Bombur a lot, he is often close to him to help and support him. So I think that when Fili dies in the last movie, Bombur spends a lot of time by his bedside contemplating him. To thank his nobility of mind and for all the help he gave him during his quest, he calls his first son Fili.
I have other headcanon, but for now I reveal only these eh eh eh
Thanks so much to write me :D

Love Bites
Fandom: The Hobbit Characters: Kili, Fili, Nori, Dori, Ori Relationship: Kili/reader Request: Could you please write a Kili x reader where they have been courting on the quest to reclaim Erebor and end up having sex one night on the journey but get called out by Fili the next morning when he sees they both have hickys? Ps LOVE your blog 😘 When the company first arrived at the tavern, you were more than relieved to find out you would not have to sleep under the stars again. Not that you didn’t like it, but your back craved the softness of a proper bed, or even just a taverns bed. At least you wouldn’t have to worry if it were to rain, or if goblins might attack you in the middle of the night. And you could also get some private time with Kili. Both of you were some of the youngest members of the company, and that meant you bonded very quickly. Kili was energetic and incredibly funny, which had taken you by surprise. You had heard some stories of dwarves and, while they were known for being the centre of parties, you never expected Kili. You had been having dinner with Bilbo when Dwalin turned up, then Balin and then the two young princes. Kilis eyes had lite up the second Bilbo opened the door and he saw you peering over your brothers shoulder. From that moment, you were his. After a very short private courtship, a slip during a meal lead to the entire company realising that you and Kili were courting. Bilbo had been speechless, spluttering the entire time, but eventually he came around. The dwarves had no qualms with you being a hobbit. Their numbers were few and, since Kili was on the lower end of inheriting the throne, it was not an issue. Through some stroke of luck, you were allowed to continue with your courtship of the dwarf with no issues. The company were having a merry time in the tavern under the inn. It was a quiet night, so the inn keeper was more than happy to have the group in since it would line his pocket during the winter months. You and Kili sat in a corner with Fili and Ori. For the most part, the four of you spent the most time together. You were all very close in age and enjoyed each others company. Sometimes the older members of the group would take a joke too seriously or try to steer the conversation away from certain topics. But not now. Kili leaned over to you, whispering in your ear if you wanted to go upstairs. Your head snapped towards him but you couldn’t help the smile that pulled on your lips. But by this point, Fili and Ori were past being drunk, as were most of the company. Bilbo had went to his room a few hours ago, followed shortly by Gandalf then Thorin and Balin, but the rest stayed in high spirits. No one would notice if you two slipped away at the same time. Or if he slipped into your room rather than his own. The two of you had barely had any beer and yet you stumbled up the stairs and into your room. The second he was alone with you, something broke with in Kili and he wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you into for a passionate kiss. Clothes were thrown carelessly onto the floor and the two of you fell into bed, wrapped in each others arms. It wasn’t the first time you and Kili had been intimate. No, the first time had been ever so romantic, in the grand bedrooms at Rivendell when the company spent the night. It had been awkward and a little messy, but pleasurable and loving nonetheless. As time progressed, you both struggled to keep your hands to yourself. Fili would provide an alibi as you and Kili snuck off for some alone time or allow your bathing times to overlap a little. As normal, Kili left you breathless and shaking with pleasure. He always drove you to near madness on nights like this. He made you orgasm again and again and again before he finally came in you. It was nights like this that made you forget your name or where you were. With him trusting into you, his hands on your hips and his lips on your neck, you didn’t even notice his teeth connect with your skin or how he sucked on the area in a desperate attempt to keep himself from calling out your name. The company were drunk, not deaf. You would mirror him, leaving your own marks on his shoulder and neck. Of course, these were long forgotten as you fell apart, panting. -------------time skip --------- You woke with a jolt as you heard movement inside your bedroom. Sitting bolt upright, you saw Kil struggling to pull on his trousers without falling over. You couldn’t help but let out a soft giggle which caught his attention. “I didn’t mean to wake you.” He bowered his head in apology. “Its okay.” You wave him off as you get up and stretch. “You certainly made up for it last night.” “I did?” he asked, but you could see the smirk on his lips and the way his eyebrow tugged upwards. He wasn’t asking as much as he was wanting to hear you say it again. But before you could say much else, you heard footsteps outside your door. They came and went past your room with no disturbance, but it was a close enough call for Kili to finish dressing and sneak out of your room, but not before returning to you to retrieve a kiss. ------time skip ---------- Despite it being early winter, the day was incredibly warm. There was a cool breeze, but because you were traveling round the base of a mountain it never seemed to reach the company enough to waver the hot sun. Huffing, you moved your head side to side uncomfortably. Your hair was starting to get damp from the sweat. It made you feel sticky and horrible as well as uncomfortable. Deciding to try fight against this awful weather (that you were sure you would miss once the winter sets in), you pulled your hair up into a loose bun. You ran your hands over the back of your neck as you tried to stop the sweat from running down your back. Your eyes fell on the company. All of them rode on their ponies, not daring to walk in this heat. Thorin rode ahead with Bilbo and Gandalf, who seemed to be discussing the best way around the mountain Balin and Dwalin were slightly behind, but speaking with them. You would normally ride in the middle, where it was safest, but nothing would attack in this heat, so you had fallen a little back. Instead, Oin and Gloin rode beside Bombur, Bifur and Dori. You were riding slightly behind Kili, with Fili and Ori to your side and Bofur and Nori behind. It would appear the entire company was feeling the heat. Even thorin had taken off his large fur coat and chose to only ride with his tunic on. Bofur was using his hand to fan some cool air to his face while Dori chose to pull his hood up to try and protect himself from the sun. No one would win, though. It was a hot day, and there was little to no way to combat it. Even Kili was feeling the heat. Outside of you and Bilbo, he was the only one who had no facial hair and relatively short hair by dwarven standard. But judging by the disgruntled groans from the company, he was probably rather relieved right now. He had taken off his own coat and wore only a thin tunic, the same one you had helped him take off last night while you straddled his lap on the bed. The thought made your cheeks burn as you dropped your gaze from him. If only you had some way to cool down. You wondered if there was a stream up ahead somewhere. You pictures a small river, with sparkling blue water that would be nice and cool on your heated skin. you were so lost in your fantasy, you didn’t notice Ori nudge Fili and nod at you, his cheeks a bright red. And it didn’t take Fili long to see what Ori had seen. You lulled your head to the side, showing part of your neck that was normally not visible through your thick hair. And, on the skin, was a very distinctive mark. You didn’t notice the smirk on Fili face, nor how Bofur had fallen back to speak to them only to follow their gazes at your neck. Nori was next to join the silent discussion as all four pair of eyes shifted to Kili. And, because he wasn’t wearing his normal coat (which was thick and with a high collar), they could clearly see his own marks on his neck. It would appear his tunic was not on his side either, because it had a very open collar and the group could see a love bite on his shoulder. Fili looked back to you, noticing the way you seemed to be zoned out. “Are you dreaming?” He called across to you. “Yes, of a nice cool lake. Maybe a waterfall.” You nod, only being pulled from your fantasy to reply but not to fully pay attention. “And Kili as well, I’d imagine.” Nori chuckled, bringing you right out of your dream as your head snapped towards the group to your side. “Excuse me?” You breath, completely confused. Just because it was common knowledge that you were courting Kili didn’t mean that you were any less embarrassed when private matters like this came up? Perhaps you were just reading too far into it, but a comment like that coming from Nori normally had another meaning. “nothing.” Nori chuckled, shaking his head as he and Bofur exchanged a look that told you it wasn’t nothing. “so, where did you slip off to last night?” Bofur suddenly asked you. “I thought I’d get to bed early.” You weren’t exactly lying. Since you had gone to bed straight after you had left the tavern. “hmm.” Bofur nodded to himself before looking ahead. “What about you, Kili? Last night?” It would appear Kili had been lost in his own thought because he hadn’t heard a single thing that had just been said. He looked over his shoulder. “Last night? Me and [y/n] decided to take a walk. Get some fresh air.” His answer completely clashed with your own and you could have thrown something at him. “And suck on some lemons as well.” Fili Chuckles from the group to your side made you look to the side out of embarrassment. You couldn’t even meet Kilis eyes. Not that they would have met your own. No, they were focused on your neck as well. He pulled his pony to fall back beside you, instantly understand what was going on. “maybe you’d be better to plait your hair.” He offered, reaching out and pulling your own pony back so you both fell behind the group of chuckling dwarves. “What?” you frowned, even more confused than before. Until your eyes fell on Kilis neck. Instantly, the memories of how you had bitten down on his neck came flooding back. Instantly, your own had snapped up to your own neck, covering the area you remembered feeling him suck on the night before. “Yeah, a plait would be good.” You breath, your other hand tugging some spare string you had out of the saddle bag. “And maybe you should do up your tunic?” Kili took the string from you while you pulled down your bun. The two of you worked in silent to cover the love bites. You were so embarrassed that you were unable to meet anyones eyes for the rest of the journey until Thorin ordered to stop and make camp. You got off your pony but Kili was quicker and was by your side, helping you down. “Im sorry.” He spoke in a low voice to you. “No, you don’t need to apologies. We’re both to blame.” You smile at him, seeing the worry in his eyes vanish when you smiled. “You know-“ Fili walked over to your both, his head hung a little. He had obviously noticed your behaviour since and was feeling a little guilty. “-theres a stream through the trees there. You two could go cool off.” You couldn’t help but smile at little at Fili. Even though he and the others joked about, they did want the best for you and realised when they took things too far. “That would be nice.” You nodded. The setting sun would offer a nice romantic setting. But just before you and Kili could slip away, Dori caught your attention. He slipped something discreetly into your hand. A little box which you knew the Ri brothers carried medicine in. “A little something for the discoloration.” He stammered a little as he tapped his own neck. “Wouldn’t want you feeling embarrassed.” “Thanks, Dori.” You smiled, half tempted to tell him that Nori had already teased you a little, but you suspected Dori already knew. He was a mother hen and would do anything to make sure you were okay. You looked in the box to see a power, which was very close to your skin colour. You could put it on when you washed and it would certainly help with the colour of your neck. “whats that?” Kili asked, having missed the conversation. “Im not too sure. Dori said its to help with the discolouration. Wanna test it out?” You looked at Kili and winked. Immediately, that mischievous smile dawned Kilis lips and he grabbed your hand, pulling you to the river.
