It’s an incredibly bad look to cancel the Latina ‘Batgirl’ movie,” Smith said. “I don’t give a shit if the movie was absolute fucking dog shit – I guarantee you that it wasn’t. The two directors [Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi] who directed that movie did a couple of episodes of ‘Ms. Marvel,’ and it was a wonderful fucking show and they had more money to do ‘Batgirl’ than they had to do an episode of ‘Ms. Marvel’ and stuff.
I love all the CW shows, but the CW shows show their budgetary constraints,” Smith said. “They said ‘Batgirl’ looked too cheap because it was a $90 million movie. How do you make a cheap-looking $90 million movie? If it looked slightly better than an episode of ‘Arrow’ then why couldn’t we see that?
I don’t give a shit how bad the ‘Batgirl’ movie is, nobody in that movie is complicated or has anything in their real life you have to market around. In ‘The Flash’ movie, we all know there’s a big problem! Flash is the Reverse-Flash in real life.
Man, that difference between David Zaslav cancelling the Batgirl movie for bullshit reasons and Kevin Feige personally sending Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah a message of support after the cancellation (he even congratulated Adil on his marriage). It really highlights the importance of having a good boss who actually cares for the talent.
I just want to congratulate everyone who worked on Batgirl, especially Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, for their self control, because if I found out my ability to access the movie I spent two years working on was being blocked by studio executives I would be in a fucking jail cell.
Directors: Adil & Bilall, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy
Mini-review:
I had read a lot of divisive comments about this show, so I didn't expect to like it so much! I just loved how vibrant and colorful it was. Iman Vellani brings a lot of energy to the lead role, she truly has the makings of a star. The plot itself is not that different from other superhero origin stories, but the setting and all the representation makes it feel like something we've never seen before. I'm not going to say it's a perfect show (they tried to fit too much stuff in just six 40-minute episodes, and some characters had 180º changes that made little sense), but its strengths completely make up for any possible flaws. Overall, I think it was a marvelous (pun intended) introduction to this character, and I can't wait to see more of her in The Marvels and other projects.
“As directors, it is critical that our work be shown to audiences, and while the film was far from finished, we wish that fans all over the world would have had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film themselves. Maybe one day they will insha’Allah.”
‘Batgirl’ Directors ‘Saddened and Shocked’ After Warner Bros. Killed the Film: ‘We Still Can’t Believe It’
I think I will be avoiding movies from Warner Bros until either they release Batgirl or David Zaslav fucks off forever. They could announce the movie of my dreams and I still would feel uncomfortable supporting them.
After watching the first ep of “Ms. Marvel” I’m even more excited for the “Batgirl” movie!!! :D For those that don’t know the directors of the “Ms. Marvel” pilot and finale Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are the directors of the upcoming DCEU “Batgirl” movie with Leslie Grace. Seeing the visuals they created and how they directed this I can’t wait to see their take on Gotham and Barbara’s story. Just like how much Kamala loves Captain Marvel, Barbara is just like this with Batman and it’ll be my first Batman Michael Keaton playing this version of Barbara’s Batman/Bruce Wayne and seems like they’re keeping how much she idolized him her whole life (similar to myself LOL) and why she decides to become Batgirl. So I’m seeing a lot of similarities between these two projects already and Barbara’s Batgirl has been one of my favorites and I instantly loved Kamala after seeing this so I’m so excited!!! :D
