My random Broadway Stunt Cast Ideas (Part 1?)
Hi here's some celebrities and the musical roles I want them to be in. my definition of "celebrity" is loose, it's basically just if they're famous to me. Also I won't be providing logic for these ones, it's mostly vibes.
Miley Cyrus as Helene in Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812
Shane Madej as Billy Flynn in Chicago
Brennan Lee Mulligan and Lou Wilson as the Princes in Into the Woods (doesn't matter who plays which prince, they'd both slay either one)
Renee Rapp (I think she's mainstream famous enough to be a stunt cast now) as Anatole in Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812
Hozier as Orpheus in Hadestown (this might be a hot take?)
Lou Wilson as Shakespeare in Something Rotten
Boygenius as the Fates in Hadestown
Kate Siegal as Persephone in Hadestown
Alaska Thunderfuck as Frank N Furter in The Rocky Horror Show

This song is a great illustration of how conspiracy theorists propagate their ideas.
In the musical Chicago, lawyer Billy Flynn agrees to defend Roxie Hart in for the murder of Fred Casely. Roxie murdered Casely in cold blood and Billy knows it, but he uses his charm to frame her as a near-innocent victim of circumstance to the city of Chicago.
He spins a story where Roxie was born into wealth, her parents died when she was young, and she was sent to be raised in a convent. He claims that she met Amos Hart, who swept her off her feet and convinced her to elope. Fred Casely is presented as a bitter ex-boyfriend who tried to murder Roxie. And just like that, Billy has the journalists' sympathy.
Conspiracy theorists often spin their claims as ideological underdogs, unfairly rejected by closed-minded historians, scientists, and the like because they "don't fit the mainstream narrative." This primes their audience to view their claims in a sympathetic light while viewing their critics as unfairly hostile antagonists.
The whole purpose of this sob story was to make the journalists receptive to one easy-to-remember, easy-to-repeat line: they both reached for the gun. Billy Flynn begins to sing:
Oh, yes, oh, yes, oh, yes, we both
Oh, yes, we both, oh, yes, we both reached for
The gun, the gun, the gun, the gun, oh, yes
We both reached for the gun, for the gun
He sings these repetitious lyrics, and then! The journalists begin to repeat them:
Oh, yes, oh, yes, oh, yes, they both
Oh, yes, they both, oh, yes, they both reached for
The gun, the gun, the gun, the gun, oh, yes
They both reached for the gun, for the gun
Conspiracy theories have their own forms of they both reached for the gun. Some examples include:
"They're hiding the truth from us!"
"Mainstream science can't explain this!"
"Mainstream scientists continue to ignore this!"
"Quantum physics proves it!"
"The ancient texts all confirm it!"
"Leaked documents from the CIA prove it!"
"There's no way this is natural!"
"There's no way this can be a coincidence!"
"Jet fuel can't melt steel beams!" (Specific to 9/11 conspiracy theories. It's also flat-out wrong.)
"These blocks could've only been cut with a laser!" (Common to ancient astronaut conspiracy theories; it's also flat-out wrong.)
While their audience might not be able to remember each and every detail about the conspiracy theory, they will be able to remember these lines repeated over and over.
Once the journalists are in agreement that they both reached for the gun, Billy Flynn moves on to:
Understandable, understandable
Yes, it's perfectly understandable
Comprehensible, comprehensible
Not a bit reprehensible, it's so defensible
He reaffirms that Roxie was just a good girl acting in self-defense, and you couldn't possibly hold any of this against her.
Again, conspiracy theorists like to play themselves up as misunderstood underdogs, and not as perpetrators of hatred and violence. They (so they proclaim) don't believe in ancient aliens because they want to deny that ancient POC could've built anything on their own! They're not trying to assert white supremacy! They believe in it because there's so much evidence! It can't be coincidence all those people built pyramids! Those blocks could only be cut by a laser! It's understandable, understandable! Not a bit reprehensible, it's so defensible!
And just as the reporters under Billy Flynn's thrall spread the narrative he spun all over the city of the Chicago, the conspiracy theorist's audience goes and spreads their fabricated narrative all over the world.
