King's Avatar (Live Action)
How did it take me so long to start watching Kings Avatar (live action)?
It is an amazing show full of complex relationships, struggles, hardships, and triumph.
And the best part? Not a single named character had any hint of a (romantic) relationship or desire to be in one, while the relationships between all the characters were compelling, deep, and enjoyable. Do you know how rare this is? Even the male-female relationships were strong, nuanced, and caring, without bringing romance into the equation.
This show had me on the edge of my seat almost all 40 episodes, and I binged it incredibly quick. All the main characters were amazing and compelling (and it didn't hurt that they were all very pretty too, though many in a cute kid way)
Spoilers (kind of)
There were definitely some weird things going on though.
Like an evil twin plot, that was only mentioned in 1 episode, and afterwards never mentioned again (even in the flash backs where it would make sense for the twin to be present), I wonder if the source material had more on this. Otherwise it's just confusing and weird. Also the whole why did Ye Xiu go as Ye Qio for the last 8 years? Did he not show his face in respect to his twin, or was it something else?
Whatever happened to Su MuQio(sp?)? (At first I thought Ye Qio was using part of Su MuQio's name, but I'm not sure if it was the same character or not, and then well the evil twin plot, so I'm not sure at all). Like I really really wanted to know, and they NEVER told us.
While, in general, the female players (and characters) were treated with the same level of professionalism as the males, there were a couple things that I just found unnecessary. Such as some of the ribbing involving the female player 'getting fat' and the extremely short skirts the females wore when in uniform.
That said, this show could have VERY easily gone into a love triangle (or square), with the main male character and two of the female characters. In fact I've seen very many shows do exactly that. There was never any antagonism or romantic competition between the two females (Su Mucheng and Guo Guo) and that was just so great to see.
