Welcome to me trying to convince myself to revise for my exams by inserting my lecture material into six of crows quotes
Kaz leaned back. “What’s the easiest way to determine a gene’s function?”
“Knock it out?” asked Inej.
“Modify it?” said Jesper.
“Molecular tools?” suggested Nina.
“You’re all horrible,” said Matthias.
Kaz rolled his eyes. “The easiest way to discover a gene’s function is infect it with a virus. You change its behaviour and you can compare it to what it used to do. The Rous virus is going to do that job for us,”

🎅 Have a Howelly-Jolly Christmas 🎄‬
A festive finding in the blood of an asplenic patient 💉‬
i❤️histo
A Howell–Jolly body is a cytopathological finding whereby small remnants of nuclear DNA are present in normally anuclear circulating erythrocytes.
During development in the bone marrow, late orthochromatophilic erythroblast normally expel their nuclei. However, in some cases, a small portion of DNA remains (the purple dots in the erythrocytes wearing the Santa hats).
Under normal circumstances if these irregular erythrocytes make it into the blood, they are removed from circulation by the spleen.
As a result, the presence of erythrocytes with Howell-Jolly bodies in peripheral blood smears like this usually signifies a damaged or absent spleen - because a healthy spleen would normally filter this type of red blood cell.

02• 08 • 2023
Today was a slow day, I started my day at the doctors office. Luckily I wasn’t starting to get a flu, getting sick is not the best idea especially with the last 2 months of my degree being as hectic as they are going to be.
I had my first and only class at 12:30, Physiology. We were starting the Respiration module with Sleep Apnea being the topic of the day. At 14:00 there was a Pharmacology meeting about a group project due later in the month (it could have been an email).
All in all I was happy to see my friends and experience another day.

23.5.2022
New week again. I’ve always been more productive in the morning, so starting the week with some early morning studying. I need to revise for my last exam of the semester, which is this Wednesday, and then I have two lectures later today.
Five full days of work last week with no opportunity to rest felt really rough, but it’s practice for the summer again. I’m happy that the lectures and labs are soon over, it almost feels like a vacation to just work. Or to not have a fixed schedule at least, I will try to work on my thesis during summer whenever I have time.
I did start practising German again with Duolingo. I remembered more than I thought I would, so that’s a positive thing. I wish I was actually brave enough to talk or even write in the languages that I’ve studied, that would be the best practice. I tried to suggest weekly conversations in German to my wife, since she has also studied it for years, but she wasn’t too excited about it.

🍕Happy Pizza Day 🍕
Sometimes cells remind me of food.
These are epithelial cells from an adenocarcinoma of the lung.
i♡histo
An adenocarcinoma is a tumor that is derived from the epithelial cells of glandular tissues. The pizza was obtained from a nodule on the lung. An endoscope with an ultrasound attached to it was used to guide a needle directly into the nodule and some cells were then sucked out for observation. The technique is called endoscopic ultrasound fine needle aspiration or EUS/FNA for short. Aspirates like this allow pathologists to determine whether the cells in the nodule looked normal or cancerous so they can recommend appropriate treatment and/or surgery to remove the tumor.
