@nowuseemee13 ive seen ppl over the years complain about not having enough bipolar support spaces but im gonna be real with yall, they dont really exist because the only actual support u need is getting on medication. like point blank peroid and let me be clear i am speaking solely about bipolar here, because bipolar disorder is a genetic disorder, it is solely a physical brain condition that cannot be managed without medication and once u are on a medication that is working for u, then there's really not any more support u need for the bipolar specifically because the symptoms literally just stop. the mania stops the hallucinations stop the deep depressive episodes stop, ect ect. like literally it all just turns off. and so people dont need those support groups anymore because their bipolar is being managed effectively and their symptoms are in remission. and medication is the only way to achieve that, no amount of cbt or dbt or talk therapy will make ur bipolar disorder stop because it is a malfunctioning of the physical organ if u have other issues like adhd or cptsd or ocd or any other conditions (which lots of ppl do) then obviously those symptoms still remain, but then people usually move to spaces for those conditions. and so bipolar spaces dont really have a reason to exist because most people shortly after learning they have bipolar, are then put on medication and have their symptoms alleviated. so bipolar disorder DOES have the support it needs, that support just doesnt include therapy groups or discord servers because thats not what we need. because even when u do find bipolar support groups or discord servers (which ive been in a fair few) they are Always populated almost solely by unmedicated and actively symptomatic ppl being insanely manic or suicidal and so anyone who is medicated and learning to manage leave immediately because it ends up being a wildly unsafe space to be in so it has nothing to do with bipolar disorder not having enough support or acknowlegement or anything, its literally just that that kinda space is useless and unhelpful so no one makes it and most ppl dont waste their time with it

For @crayonssz!!
Bipolar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder should both have acronyms
BPD is already borderline personality disorder but BIPD or BIP should be bipolar disorder mayhaps

a’ight I’m coming back to Tumblr, there’s less bombardment/infighting and I’m definitely in a better headspace than I was last weekend.
Detox was definitely a good decision though, I am currently early in a manic cycle and I literally felt like I was about to have a full episode so I had to shut it down before pushing myself. But I got shit to do and stuff I need to post/keep track of, and Tumblr is (shockingly) much better about sourcing their news when it comes around so at least I feel like I can positively contribute to spreading information and activism, as opposed to Twitter where everything is just... so negative and so emotional and genuinely Not Great for me right now. Just horrible timing all around

🍁 + Questions are hard so what's an aspect of Beth that you would seize the opportunity to explore more.
Curious Cat || Always Accepting
I honestly would love to develop Beth's mental health better, especially the way it is with Andy, and the way it is with other people, because the two are vastly different. I mean this in the way that Beth has rapid-cycling Bipolar Disorder.
A brief explanation: RC/BiPD is often diagnosed when a person experiences for or more episodes of mania {or the milder version, hypomania} and depressive episodes within the scope of a one year {12 month} period. For some, rapid cycling can be temporary, and it can occur with any type of bipolar disorder.
With Andy, it's as mild as it can get. Just as her spark of life offsets his pain and bodily dysfunction, he's always been critically aware of her mental health, charting things in his own way and mending the rough parts when he could. In most verses where he ends up dying as per canon, he never actually gets strong enough to cure his sister, a regret that he carries with him into the afterlife. In the verses where he survives, Beth makes it very difficult for him to even try and their relationship is never what it once was. Andy is hyper-protective about her illness and her in general, which leads to the occasional outburst of his temper.
As for herself, Beth doesn't really like to talk about it. It's bad enough that she can't hide her audio-processing disorder, she doesn't want to throw something else into the mix. She is extremely {negatively} self-aware and self-critical. A giant portion of this comes from growing up under the Admiral's constant abuse, the man has effectively destroyed Beth's sense of self, and her worth to others. She does her best to take her mood-stabilisers as prescribed but those are only crutches and not cures. During Beth's highs she often feels like she doesn't need them. During her lows, she's convinced they're part of what makes her sick, and that the Admiral has something to do with it.
Beth gravitates towards other 'damaged' people because of these feelings, getting on with people who are not neurotypical or with their own challenges than she does with anyone else. Deep down, it's easy to believe that people with disabilities of any kind or those with some kind neurodivergence might more readily accept her. The reason I don't delve into it is...I have clinical {chronic} depression, but not bipolar disorder and I don't want to misrepresent anything or upset anyone, especially my beautiful friends who do live with it. Also, as you can imagine, those threads are not exactly fun to right for the other person, and none of my partners signed up to be therapists. {With apologies to: @ronmanmob, @whosxafraid, and @mynameisanakin for having threads where this is a root cause}

ASPD diagnosis anon again.
Thank for responding, I really appreciate it.
You mentioned your bipolar diagnosis affecting your rights/freedoms, what did you mean by that? I ask because personally, I have lots of things i need to address, and process, but therapy as a whole just seems like a massive risk. I'm not asking for a "do this/dont do this," I guess, but more of your perspective and experiences.
Thanks again, just let me know if it's too personal. :)
so in the us at least, it can affect a lot. bipolar disorder is considered a legal disability tho and is protected under the ADA so some of these things u can fight, while others u cant
things like workplace or educational discrimination for example, both are required to provide accomodation for bipolar individuals, but them knowing ur diagnosis at all puts u at risk for discrimination. i know most places wont hire u if they know that upfront, and in some fields (like medical, govt work, ect) outright state that u cannot have a mental health diagnosis like bipd in their field and they straight up will not even consider hiring u
it can affect ur ability to get or renew a drivers liscence, especially specialty liscences like CDL's and motorcycle
it greatly affects ur medical treatment overall. ive had problems with some dr's not taking me seriously because they see i have a bipd dx. i had a bone tumor the size of a baseball in my shoulder for years and when i told dr's it felt like i couldnt breathe and that something was pushing my shoulder out they dismissed me as being a hypochonriac and told me to talk to my therapist. i also need to make a point to appear put together when i see certain dr's or else they take it as a sign im declining mentally
were often at an increased risk for involuntary hospitalizations, especially if healthcare workers believe u to be manic or having an episode. this leaves us more vulnerable to things like guardianships/conservatorships. it is much more likely for judges to rule against us in cases where someone is challenging our legal rights or trying to gain prolonged control. this can be especially dangerous for people in abusive relationships or with abusive parents.
it also counts negatively against us in family court proceedings. judges are much less likely to side with a bipolar parent in custody cases and it's much easier for partners, family members, and the state to seize control over ur children
we also cant buy or legally carry any kind of firearm or other weapons. even knives that are legal to carry for others can become issues for us if the law becomes involved. we're much more likely to be given harsher punishment and prison sentences, and more likely to be mistreated in police custody
overall tho it's about weighing the pro's and cons for u personally. for me with my bipolar, i Need medication or i will go insane and kill myself and so i really had no choice there. u need a diagnosis to access bipolar meds consistently, wheras with something like aspd, u dont need a diagnosis to access treatment so it was easy to keep that one off the books
generally tho, unless ur out here telling ur therapist ur about to shoot up the grocery store or kill ur dog or throw urself infront of traffic, getting hospitalized when ur just seeking average talk therapy is fairly unlikely. hospitals are overfull and the mental health system is way overworked and understaffed and most places dont want to fight with insurances that dont want to cover stays. so u do generally have to be saying some extream things to risk being coded currently, at least in my experience. ive been held for 24hr stays before, but never longer than that. they almost always dont have a bed and so unless ur really losing ur shit infront of them they dont want to have to keep u.
also if u seek out dbt centered therapy and resources they tend to be better about handling hearing the nasty symptoms without getting too nervous. things like issues with empathy and anger management are much more common for patients seeking dbt. it also helps if u tell them these things upfront. this makes u appear more self aware and in control, which works in ur favor and makes it less likely they'll view u as an active threat to urself or others. but it really just comes down to what ur looking for personally

Do you have a list of the species in your stories? The universe with the Coalition and Booka specifically. (In case you have more than one)
Do you know what you’ve done by asking this? I had to go through everything and gather all the named species and descriptions!
I’m not even sure how many ‘universes’ I have with all my short stories, but I think most of them do or could exist in one universe. I might have missed some, or will add more lately at some point, but here are the ones I’ve written so far:
Humans - well, yeah Booka - cat-like creatures about the size of a bobcat. Fur looks like it’s on fire. Fur is long and changes color (like a fire) based on their moods Sefra - humanoid body, gray stripe down their face with tentacle-like locks on their head. Two fingers and toes per hand/foot Montauk - dark iridescent bodies that kind of look like a mix between a praying mantis and an ant. long sharp forearms are main weapons Akeno - reptilian, kind of look like large friendly raptors. various colors of scales and horns/crests on their heads, small spikes down their spines to their tails Mahben - insectoid. kind of looks like the bug alien from men in black, but smaller and less... gross. some sub-species have wings after they molt. always kind of look like they’re sneering Biet - humanoid, very bulky, muscular, and covered in long shaggy fur. I always imagined something like Ludo from the Labyrinth, but with no horns and a narrower face with a short snout Squifra - octopus-like, four main bulky tentacles they use to stand/walk and use the thinner ones as arms. Great vision and multi-tasking skills. Usually various colors in mottled patterns for camouflage Kloxan - usually humanoid in body plan, but not always. Robotic. Will often have multiple limbs or specialized tools built-in Daydam - bipedal, long necks. Variations in coloration/spots/speckles. long tails short fur, small but nimble toes and fingers. short knobby horns on their head Donkun- short, stubby, and vaguely square-shaped. skin looks rough like tree bark. Come in many colors, but usually cool or natural tones Urma Esh - lizardlike, bipedal. short, blunt snouts. skin pigments change colors and patterns rapidly like a cuttlefish. Different subspecies have crests or spines on their heads Kahsk - very powerful military-centered race that had created a vast and powerful empire. They were stopped when they attacked Earth and have not yet recovered from their losses Kreechen - small spider-like race. largest individuals grow to the size of a cat Garbon - I don’t know much other than they’re humanoid. I mentioned that this is the what Nipti from the Gardener mini-series is. Dantum - large, furry, and muscular, the Trinn-Harrup Syndicate has all but enslaved them and uses them as guards, soldiers, and thugs. Many have curved or spiraling horns. Their fur is very soft Toakaktree - tree-like aliens that can be vaguely humanoid in shape, though they often grow extra limb/branches in various places Nidabu - from the same planet as Toanaktrees, but are usually much shorter and have bushy foliage. Their bark is thin and flexible, so the tips of their branches and vines are whip-like Stransi - look like huge boa constrictors. Their tails are prehensile Teyer - small, multiple legs, high squeaky voices Chiatoru - I gave no description, just referenced their homeworld, which has a lot of engineering and science guilds, so do with that what you want Seosien - bodies are largely made of shimmering gas and electrical currents Erenti - bird-like bipeds. long feathers form a crest on the top of their heads. beaks range in size, shape and color depending on sub-species Arzhi - typically battle-centered race, very large and imposing, known for their wild temperament and perpensity for violence. Short fur, sharp teeth, spikes, and claws Ehot - scaly stocky quadrapeds with two short but strong arms. short rounded ears and flat nimble fingers Rerlutt - humanoid bipdeds. Thin fur covers parts of their bodies with longer tufts on the top of their heads, ears, elbows, spine, and at the tip of their short tails. Usually various shades of browns, grays, greens, and yellows, often with stripes. Captain Stern is one of these Thrishall - about the same height as humans. long and lanky limbs with very large eyes. bioluminescent patterns run across their body. patterns, color, size, and brightness depend on sub-species. Very fast, often skittish Nilta - short insectoids with six limbs. Exoskeletons darken as they mature Greable Death Bird -  Kalot - sturdy, warm-blooded bipeds whose small planet was one of the original members of the Burnti Solar Alliance which later grew to become the Burnti Empire Fals - skin is very thick and strong and covered lightly in small feathers which are larger on their short tails. Make up a large part of the Burnti guards in Abduction Priso - somewhat similar body plan to Bookas, but are larger, have longer torsos, larger tufted ears, thinner tails, covered in whiskers, and don’t balance as well on hind legs as Booka. Depending on sub-species, may be spotted, striped, or mottled Tiamin - tall barrel-chested biped, four arms, usually covered in short brown, tan, or gray fur with curling horns on their head and long floppy ears. Drin from Abduction is one of these Elmal - look like large, feathered sloths. Come from same planet (Burnti) as Tiamin. Rozar from Abduction is one of these
Burnti - not just the name of the empire, but also the name of the planet where  the empire began. Other named empires/groups/governments etc:
Sundovian, Galactic Coalition, Iru, Trinn-Harrup Syndicate
Thanks for the ask! This was actually really fun to go back through everything :D
EDIT: I’m rereading through Abduction while writing the second draft and found a named alien species I missed. Tibet - humanoid, covered in long shaggy fur with long limbs

TRIGGER WARNING: Random but...
I’m in school and we had to read a scenario about a young woman who had suffered a lot of sexual trauma, she reported feeling suicidal and that she used to cut, she had an ED, etc. everyone else sat there like nothing was wrong and all I could think is that I felt triggered. Like, my shit was being brought up in that room and no one else seemed to be having that experience. I wanted to get up and walk out while they discussed but I didn’t. I sat there and thought how sad it as that I’ve had some of experiences in my life and how weird that others don’t see me struggling. But I struggle back and forth, wellness and recovery and relapse and episodes. NSSI, ED, BiPD. Big stuff. And in that room last night it pulled all that shit up and I had to sit there in silence and let it all roil around in me.
