Hi! Feel free to ignore this ask if it isn't something you'd normally post on your blog, but there is a charity here in the UK that does great work with gull and seabird conservation and rehabilitation. They have been impacted by restrictions over avian flu and could use donations right now. I know how tumblr is with links, but there are links to their fundraiser on both their website and their facebook page. The charity is Bird Aid, in East Sussex. Many thanks!
Thank you for bringing this charity to my attention. Gulls have a terrible reputation, but they are among my most favorite birds. If anyone is interesting in helping I have the link below.
Here's a PRECIOUS baby from their facebook. aaaaaAAAAAAA
We have been brought animals in a lot of unusual containers. From herons from hikers in a backpack, woodpeckers in an office trash can, and opossums in an empty coffee cup, we've seen a lot of creative ways to contain injured wildlife when there aren't boxes around! This Northern Cardinal was caught by a cat and injured -- his quick-thinking rescuer didn't have any kind of container to put him in other than this small grill! Thanks to her quick efforts getting him to us he is recovering from several cat-inflicted injuries.
The “now” pic is from 5+ months ago, but I rescued this homer we named Peaches back in September. Waffles, the rock dove, was doing well but succumbed to a stroke. In her honour I am aiming to have my own aviary, and start a palomacy rescue and adoption home. I will be non-release, and educating the public on these animals in hopes to make them pets again.
If by any chances one of you has some tips on how to feed baby swallows who refuse to take food I would be very grateful. We tried to give them insects but they are not properly opening their beaks.
The wild life center is not answering and we're afraid that they will get too dehydrated. We have tried to very gently force their beaks open to give them a bit of water but they mostly rejected it and we're afraid of hurting them (they are extremely tiny!).
We just need to keep them alive and well for a few days until the wildlife center open. They were almost killed by a neighbor dog this morning so maybe they are still in shock? I think they are specifically Western house martin, but I'm not sure. They have been such good bird, very calm and cute.
Update on Wonka, the barraband parakeet with resting bitch face😂
After just three days, he has already settled in really well. I was even comfortable letting him out of his cage already, on just his third day. I opened his cage and let him fly out whenever he wanted to. After 30 minutes, he did. Then he was outside with my cockatiel, Hamilton, for an hour before I put Hamilton back in his cage. Then an hour with my kakariki, Sweeney, and finally he's outside with my Indian ringneck Poppins. Everything was perfectly calm and none of the birds invaded each other's space. Then Wonka went into one of the cages, I closed it which he accepted calmly and I let the other birds out on their own for the rest of the day. Enough stimulation for one day.
Wonka has already gone from flying away the moment my hand neared the cage to be perfectly calm while I change his water and food inside his cage. This is incredibly fast progress that I did not foresee given his history. I'm extremely hopeful for this little guy.
Wonka has also been eating well, both bird food, veggies and fruits and he coos multiple times throughout the day. I'm looking forward to love and care for him and see him grow 🥰
The fat boy is doing so well. He is hand-skittish but really loves company and is quite talkative. He’s very active and LOVES his bath time.
He is not quite up for adoption yet as we still need to cut his tags off, but I’m so excited to see him go to an amazing home. Fostering is always so bittersweet!
If you are located in the Twin Cities, MN and are interested in him, feel free to send me a message and I can get you more info as I’m the one fostering him !!
Welp. Bird died while I was out getting supplies to prevent it from dying.
Don't worry though my murderous asshole dogs caught ANOTHER one. This one has some minor scratches but can't fly, but at least now I have medicine so maybe this one will get better.
Turns out these little dipshit birbs are burrowing underneath my chicken coop in order to get in there and, idk, get fucking stuck, because my dogs sit in front of the burrow, wait for them to try and get out, then jack them.
I plugged up the burrows with bricks, hoping that ends the killing spree. jfc
This gorgeous Mourning Dove was brought to us a couple of days ago after being caught by a dog who gave this patient a few puncture wounds and ripped out nearly all the feathers on the back! This bird has responded to treatment well and is recovering nicely so far, but it will take several months to heal and grow all the feathers back before being released. Mourning Doves can live to be over thirty years old in the wild! Consider donating to help us cover the cost of this patient’s care and extended stay with us: swvawildlifecenter.org/make-a-donation/
After a rabbit, a dog and a hedgehog sooner this year... I rescued a baby pigeon.
That poor little guy was laying in full sunlight on the sidewalk during the heatwave :/ They were not looking very well, but thank god my neighbour used to work in a wild animals rescue and had all the things to try and save them.
I hope they will make it! They're not injured (but I found some blood), so I think probably a cat made a carnage in the nest and the little guy managed to escape. I didn't find the nest though :/
