why do people gatekeep queer identies?? like,, isn't the whole point of the queer community that we're sick of being told who we are and aren't allowed to be?? stop shunning queer people for being queer in ways you don't like
Mariner is so special to me, partially because she gets to have the kind of arcs/story lines that are usually reserved for male characters. Like, she gets to be strong, intelligent and charismatic while also being reckless and self-sabotaging due to untreated trauma. But at the same time she's not just "one of the boys." She has very close female friends, she loves going on girl trips, she has a complicated but strong relationship with her mom. She cares about her friends and helping people while also deeply fearing vulnerability. The newest episode further reinforces the fact that she might be the most complex character in the main cast and there are still parts of her backstory that we and the other protagonists may not be privy to.
Too many shows have no idea how to balance strong female characters. They either make them overpowered, overly sexualized or just completely friendless. Very happy to see that Lower Decks didn't go down those routes.
