I was talking with a friend recently about our favourite images from queer history, and while I adore the compilations of photos of people being explicitly and obviously queer, I wanted to share some of the images that have touched my heart. All of these are of queer subjects and I have linked some articles about the people in question below, in case anyone is interested! I have a lot more so tell me if y’all are interested.

From the Spring 1997 issue of bisexual magazine "Anything That Moves" (plain text under the cut)
Not A Traitor, Not Weird, Just Happy
Greetings! Just when I was afraid that there was no intelligent life out there, I find Anything That Moves. What luck!
I adored "Bi Femme" by Leah Lilith Albrecht-Samarasinha; I think she and I are sisters under the skin! I am currently embroiled in a passionate relationship with a glorious drag queen, and I was really starting to feel as if I were the only bi-babe who got all sweaty over a guy in a frock.
I, too, have been called a traitor by my gay friends, and just plain weird by my straight friends, but how can you label "happy"? I steal his clothes, he steals mine... and we wear the same size skirt. What more is there?
Thanks again. I shall return regularly.
Ging (from the 'net)

🌈✨ Celebrating 25 Years of Bisexual Pride Flag! ✨🌈
Today marks a special milestone as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Bisexual Pride Flag! 🎉🏳️‍🌈 Designed by the talented Michael Page in 1998, this vibrant flag has become a powerful symbol of visibility and recognition for the bisexual community.
For a quarter of a century, the pink, purple, and blue stripes have represented the diverse spectrum of attraction that bisexual individuals experience. Each color carries meaning — from same-sex attraction to opposite-sex attraction, and the beautiful blend of both in between.
This flag has played a crucial role in fostering a sense of identity and belonging within the LGBT community, breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes. It stands tall at pride parades, events, and gatherings, proudly declaring that bisexuality is an essential and valid part of the rich tapestry of human diversity.
Let's take a moment to honor the resilience, courage, and visibility that the Bisexual Pride Flag has brought to countless lives over the past 25 years. Here's to continued progress, understanding, and celebration of all love! 🥳🎂🎊

Happy bi week! Singer and guitarist Rosetta Tharpe was known as the Godmother of Rock and Roll for bringing the music of her Black, working-class gospel music to the world. Her friend Tony Heilbut described her attitude to relationships as “Rosetta belonged to the Whosoever Will Church as in “Whosoever Will Let Him (or Her) Come.”"

In December 1927, Norwegian-born twins Paal and Lief Roschberg started their career with a bang by impersonating the newly-retired Dolly Sisters at Les Ailes de Paris.
Tumblr media
They then arranged to dance with Josephine Baker, until the other legendary Paris cabaret performer Mistinguette swooped in and took them under her wing. It was a very Taylor Swift-Katy Perry situation.
Tumblr media
Later, Mistinguette would say of them, "They were so ravishing that each night after the show they would allow themselves to be kidnapped by beauty enthusiasts of both sexes."
Tumblr media
The Rocky Twins became known more for their stunning androgynous beauty rather than their fantastic dance moves, they were nonetheless one of the most celebrated stage acts of the Jazz Age. They lived an opulent, adventuresome lifestyle that had them touring all over the world, funded by older wealthy male patrons.
Tumblr media
Eventually, the two found their way to Hollywood. They didn't find much success in films, but continued to have a successful stage career until they split professionally in 1937.

Queer history fact: While touring, known bisexual, Josephine Baker would write information she had gathered on her music sheets in invisible ink and smuggle it across borders in her underwear, counting on her fame to save her from being strip-searched. She had a close relationship with her spy handler, and the two began an open relationship where they returned to each other as close confidants. When her health troubles began during the war, she would use her bedridden position to set up a secure place for her and her handler to run their covert operations, as no one could be suspected of nefarious activities just because they visited the famous Josephine Baker in the hospital.

“When she (lesbian) and (gay) I had our first (heterosexual) kiss In the doorway of her midtown apartment, we were cautioned by a cop (straight?) I wonder if she found it as funny as I did; is Manhattan so uptight that a (straight) kiss is frowned upon?” - Laurence W. Thomas

Note
do you know if there are any books on mspec gays/lesbians?
i dont see a lot of people talk about it and i was wondering if there were any mspec gays/lesbians in the 60’s or 80’s made books about their experience as a mspec gay/lesbian
now that's a good question! i actually don't know of any books written by/about mspec gays or lesbians, but i do know that Alison Bechdel does have at least one, if not more, comic strip in Dykes to Watch Out For about bisexual lesbians. that strip was written sometime in the 90's or early 2000's. other than that though, i would be curious to see if anyone else has any good recommendations on historical mentions of bisexual/mspec lesbians and gays!
