Found the coolest little fragment of porcelain I’ve ever found at the creek the other day—it’sa skull!!
It was laying upside down when I spotted it and mostly covered in sand and mud. Thought it might have been a piece of a figurine so I rinsed it off and realized there was half of a little bisque porcelain human skull looking back at me!
Did a little research and turns out this was most likely part of a candlestick holder! Here’s a similar pair that sold on Etsy. Looks like they were made in the 1930s through the 1950s in Japan and Germany. There were a lot of different molds and quite a bit of variation—some had lower jaws, others didn’t, some had lower jaws that were separate pieces and moveable, etc—but pretty much all of them had those unique horizontal lines behind the eye sockets. I saw a few cast iron ones in the search results too.
Even if they are broken, I still love finding these little treasures like this and getting to learn a little history about them <3

Hi! I'm excited for your next Etsy drop, I order from you just about every time, I love your work!!
I was just wondering if you were going to continue with your zodiac year of the [animal] figurines, would so love a bunny to go with my cow and tiger!!!
Ah! Thank you so much for the many orders and the kind words. Will absolutely be continuing the zodiac critters starting with this Feb. update.
Little wip teaser of a bunny friend wanted to say hi and thank you for this query!

Just WIP until the community kiln opens up firing again in January.
These little guys. From top; Quoll, Bandicoot, Numbat.
Not 100% sure what I’m going to do with these guys. Been doing some glaze tiles.
