After getting exposed to comics through the MCU, seeing the queerness of actual superhero comic books blows my mind. (for context I'm largely a DC reader but from what I know marvel is similar).

Like one current comic I am reading is essentially a messy WWII gay divorce arc between Green and Red Lantern (Alan Scott: Green Lantern).

Another is DC bombshells which is basically a WWII AU where all the main superheroes are badass women who punch nazis, and I literally could could the amount of (probably) straight characters on one hand.

Spirit World starring Xanthe Zhou changed my life. Suddenly here was a cool, fun, complex non-binary Chinese character who was the hero of their own story. They also had awesome costume design, epic powers, and was hanging out with John Constantine and fucking Cassandra Cain. And the experiences with their family felt so real and authentic. When I looked into it further I learnt were created by a Chinese non binary writer, Alyssa Wong.

It's just so refreshing compared to when I was begging for subtext in what is frankly one of the straightest film franchise of the 21st century. It's sometimes fun, sometimes messy, and sometimes just queer. It made me feel like I could be part of the world of superheroes for the first time.

I was expecting folks to get mad at me, so this is a relief of a response.

I dearly miss the old days where no one knew what any of their internet friends looked like or where they lived. Privacy was understood and respected - hell, entire sites were devoted to no one knowing who you were so you could speak your mind.

Now, I genuinely worry for young people and kids who post pictures of their faces with the name of their school right behind them. They're so used to being exposed all the time, it doesn't occur to them that there are benefits to keeping yourself to yourself. There are people who are willing to hurt you, and some who want to. The danger has not passed, it's just gotten more sly, and you are not helping by doing that danger's work for it.

Have you noticed the way women are being openly demeaned, treated like we're inherently lesser, and that it's pointless to have a group of women with no men? I've seen major professional sports leagues referred to as nothing more than "ghettos" that keep women out of the real sports leagues with all-male teams. The message is that womens organizations are inherently worthless, mens organizations are inherently worthy. The message is that one or two of us on a team would be an achievement, but all 12 being women is a disgrace. You can see the same message applied to any female organization, the insistance that we are nothing without men, that men deserve to write the rules, that it's embarrasing or immoral to associate with a group of other women, that we ought to have someone with a penis watching our every move to make sure we don't get uppity, and that if we have a problem with that it means we were evil feminazis all along

literally. girlbossified and fucked up sally's character, athena is unnecessarily villainous (while poseidon is sanitized...coincidence I think not!), frederick's actions are blamed on his new wife (and they literally didn't address that whole annabeth having regrets thing but I have a feeling it was about annabeth not reaching out to her dad...it's not the child's responsibility to reach out and try to mend the relationship...like richard's handling of their relationship was already bad enough in the books), thalia adding onto annabeth's trauma and "making her work for it" like wtf was that, annabeth getting stripped of her personality and turned into the stoic child soldier smart girl who struggles with emotions because how dare she act like a 12-year-old girl, percy "saving" her from her incorrect worldview and Showing Her The Way and how to act like a human (BOOOO annabeth is literally his mortal point, what reminds him of his humanity! she is the idealist! she's the one to not give up on luke, not him! like no the point is not that he's always been Not Like Everyone Else; percy spends the whole pjo series building up his worldview which is the accumulation of all of the lessons he's learned from all of the other characters and his experiences throughout the series. but ofc in the show he just shows up with it. I'm sure he'll be talk no jutsuing everyone soon enough ughhh), no goddess appearances, etc etc. and to think they thought they ate with that medusa redemption...athena is criticized for her actions and yet poseidon is never really scrutinized for assaulting her and is redeemed to be a loving caring father...

in regards to the constant dismissal of his aroace identity, i hate it when alastor 'fans' say and use the excuse: "he's fictional, he won't get offended."

like, you're right, but it can and will offend us.

when you see yourself being represented on screen, of course you'd feel enthusiastic about it — representation allows individuals to see themselves reflected in the media they consume, validating their identities and experiences. but when so many people take that representation and decide to disregard and discard it, it is so fucking frustrating. we finally have another character to be part of the tiny amount of representation we have, but then people don't even care about how much it means to us? like yeah, alastor won't get offended because he's not real, but it frustrates and annoys us. do you realize that it's also technically invalidating the aroace community? that you're invalidating our feelings? imagine feeling like you're finally being seen because your orientation is finally being represented in media, and people just decide to blatantly ignore, discard, and invalidate it.

media has such a powerful influence on real life, representation being a prevalent factor of it. there are numerous posts that dictate how people went to watch a movie/show or read a book just because a character depicts their identity in it — obviously, being represented is an incredibly uplifting and validating experience.

which is why seeing an aroace character in a popular show is so meaningful to us because we live in a world where romance and sex are literally everywhere and prioritized above all else. (and it's pretty obvious that alastor's on the repulsed end of the spectrum, but even if he wasn't, at least make an effort to acknowledge his sexuality instead of continuing to portray him as allo; aroace folks can be in relationships but it's not going to be the same thing with allos' experiences.)

any and every representation matters, but why does that seem to stop at people under the aroace spectrum? like y'all can't even let us appreciate the scraps of representation we have. we barely have any, so are we really that dramatic for being upset at how people easily disregard and dismiss our identities that are being depicted on screen just like that? is it truly wrong of us to want to defend and maintain the little representation we have?

And it's quite a common misconception, actually! Aromantic people can still have romantic relationships if their partners are romantically attracted to them! Think of it as being friendzoned, but you're promoted from the position of Regular Friend :D like... "task failed successfully" type beat ^^

Personally I make a STAND that their relationship is a QueerPlatonic one because I'm bored of the lack of representation in media 💔 I'm an advocate for Kissing the Homies. SLEEP with them even, if you're both comfortable !

I think the most frustrating thing about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is that if the Pokémon Company actually allowed the devs plenty of time to refine graphics, test the game and patch glitches before release it could easily be one of the best Pokémon games out there. So far from what I’ve played, the story and writing is miles better than Sword and Shield, and the characters are so much more interesting and each given equal time in the spotlight. They already released Legends Arceus earlier this year and even though the graphics weren’t perfect the glitches were minimal and overall the game was fantastic, one of my all time favourites in fact. That game had more time to be perfected since BDSP was released in time for Black Friday/Christmas instead. If TPC actually gave a shit about their devs and the appearance of their games rather than the millions of dollars they rake in with every launch day then they would take one look at their game, think “wtf no that’s not done” and then delay it. Would fans cry? Yes, because Pokémon fans will never be happy. Would the game look better if it was delayed a couple of months? Probably. Breath of the Wild was delayed two years and went on to win game of the year, and it’s sequel is following suit because the company actually cares about their games. I’m not saying a Pokémon game will ever win game of the year but if even just a little bit of care was applied from the heads of TPC then maybe we’d finally get a mainline Pokémon game with nice graphics and a brilliant storyline.
