After a busy medical week I’ve updated my big girl beads of courage

(For those who don’t know, kids with medical needs can join the beads of courage program, where they receive a bead for each medical encounter to keep track)

I made my own because god knows this chronic illness journey can be hard, even as an adult.

This week I had an abdominal MRI with glucagon (which made me puke)

Then my brother and his partner had a gender reveal for their baby girl (!!!) and I had to sit and watch everyone eat celebratory pizza bc I had to do clear liquids for colonoscopy prep

Then prep made me puke again, but thank you zofran for saving my ass during part 2- I think I’m gonna have to request that be a set part of my prep plan cuz ugh puking straight liquids is gross and annoying.

My scopes went well, though I woke up wizard high and they had to bring my mom back to hang out with me in recovery because it was taking me too long to sober up 😅

Evidence of gastric and ileal inflammation, so we’ll see where to go from here I guess

I went back to work on Thursday and was immediately told by a student that I looked sick 😂

I still haven’t gotten my mri results back which is frustrating me- I recently had crazy itchiness and some wonky liver number in my labs (though they were trending down) so I want to see what that looks like on imaging.

Anyway!

Next week I have my first rheumatologist appointment and a follow up with my GI! Another busy week 😬 but I’m glad to be making moves and not just waiting waiting waiting.

I love my doctor and I really trust her expertise, even if I know I’m gonna have to switch to a less convenient drug (lifestyle wise)

Frustrates me wildly that my entire life, I've been more than capable of completing projects, but anything that requires some kind of daily discipline I'm absolutely hopeless at. Hobbies that require regular practice, exercise, even house-keeping... It doesn't matter how much I want to do the thing every day, or every few days, or what have you. I just seem to be utterly lacking in discipline in this way, and I have yet to figure out a way to build that in myself.

Feels like I've tried everything to help myself with it: alarms, daily schedules, to-do lists that can be done in any order... none of it works. And this isn't helped at all by the fact that as soon as I mess up a schedule or routine, my brain goes, "Well, so much for that," and refuses to get back on track.

This is especially worrying to me as I'm staring down working on my dissertation. I know all the steps that I need to take, but I also know that it's going to require daily work in order to actually complete those steps.

It seems like other people manage to do this just fine, which makes me feel like I must be doing something wrong, or I just missed out on some basic lesson that most people got when they were kids.

what the fuck is it with every tech company and completely overhauling their ui/ux every couple years. i hate change! i'm fucking tired!!! stop wasting my goddamn time forcing me to relearn your interface so i can be rewarded with a fresh set of bugs to deal with! go refactor and rewrite something else on the backend or whatever

i thought facebook taught us the magic of gradual ui changes. i thought most software development taught us the magic of iterative development. why do we continue to accost users like this?

like hating people “lower than you” was the NORM. that was socially expected and encouraged. it wasnt just the government but they did a FANTASTIC job at manipulating most people into simply accepting their place in this planet, encouraging violence, and breeding tensions between castes. while earth is mega fucked up and most governments dont protect minorities the big difference is that MOST civilians arent just killing each other in the street and most people know and accept ableism classism racism homophobia etc are like…not good. so when u change that u change smmm abt the characters @_@ (yes i know there are exceptions but i am talking about random people on the street. most accept these things are bad btw.)

People make me so mad sometimes!!!!

Today a student I work with tried to get himself hit by a car to die, and while me and my colleagues were standing in the road, physically blocking him from running into traffic and deescalating, traffic started to back up and somebody fucking HONKED!

Like get real???? You see a crying teenager standing in the road screaming about how they want to die, with several adults blocking traffic and you decide to honk??????

I flipped them off and then immediately was like oopsies that was a mistake for professionalism reasons, but tbh I don’t regret it.

And then people were driving around us and giving us dirty looks and doing those stupid ‘what are you doing?’ Gestures- Like obviously there is a child in crisis!!!!! You can sit in traffic for an extra five minutes if it means he stays alive.

The student ended up being hospitalized. This was the third time he was majorly dysregulated and unsafe just this week- poor kid has been hanging on by a thread (which got snapped today)

(I feel that I should share that I work at a school specifically for kids with mental health and behavioral problems)
