Sorry I saw like 2 things about your Accidental Overlord Vaggie AU and my brain supplied me with the hotel members overhearing this conversation between Charlie and Vaggie:

Vaggie: WHAT DO YOU MEAN I’M AN OVERLORD?!

Charlie: Well— you- you own souls, sweetie, I—?? I’m not sure how you didn’t know??

Vaggie: ???OF COURSE I DIDN’T KNOW THERE WERE ?? NO CONTRACTS???

Charlie: Vaggie—

Vaggie (probably pacing in circles): How the hell do I own souls?? That’s possible with no contract??? How many do I—

Vaggie (turning to Charlie way too fast): How many do I own?

Charlie: Uhm.. . .. so I don’t. I don’t really know–

Vaggie (about to pass out):

Vaggie is so wet cat coded, shed be shaking wondering wtf to do while Charlie tries to help the ebst she can

As for how the others would react? Well, Alastor already knows. Now, I'm not sure if this means Husk and Nifty would know or not, but I'm goign to sya that they don't know

I don't think Nifty would care really, maybe ask about HOW she got souls but nothing else, Husk I imagine treats her the same but with jsut a bit more respect because he doesn't need ANOTHER overlord out for his head

Pentious would probably brag about knowing an overlord to anyone out side of the hotel

The nsot interesting reactionw ould have to be from Angle, I have two ways on how he reacts

I can imagine him doubling down on the teasing because he knows he can get away and likes bullying an overlord because Vaggie can't really do anything about it, not with Charlie around. I also think he'd see it as 'getting back at Val' like, he can't do anything to Val but Vaggie is an overlord that he CAN do something to so I think it'd give him a feeling of power?

The 2nd option is that he's terrified of Vaggie now, not by too much, but he slowly stops teasing her unless their in the living room, and even then, it's minimal. I imagine if this route happened, he'd avoid being alone with her and just back off a lot, like a skittish cat. Because, like Husk, he doesnt need another overlord coming for his head. Maybe he spends more time outside the hotel cause not the hotel isn't a safe place for him. Not anymore

Both options definitely give a lot of angst, and I think Husk would be the one to pull him out of both, probably like ep4 because I imagine that they'd overhear the conversation between ep3 and ep4. So Husk would not only be talking with him about Val and all that but also his change in behavior towards Vaggie

Honestly, both are very angle things to do, bite harder due to fear, or back off due to fear. So, it either works, though. I do think option 1 is a bit more in character? Like, he's hiding his fear behind mean words, like he does in canon. Jsut, he doubles down. But again, I CAN see him relating either way

Honestly I wasn't sure if Charlie would know or not, but she's gonna know amd jsut casually not say anything, cause she thinks Vaggie already knows, JUST for the sale of this conversation-

in a fishbowl surrounded by deep ocean blues to symbolise that he got consumed by the sea, with a feathers inspired by a kingfisher bird because hehe fisher (also i dont remember if i ever posted my grian design but hes always had a fish tail. even if he didnt i wouldve made it a fish tail because haha yes more fisherman motif)

inspired by his episode two!! (and to a lesser extent ep3 and ep4). grian got consumed by the sea!! good for him, good for him.

you cant really see it but i did design a whole fisherman outfit for grian. thats why he got his sweater around his shoulders rather than wearing it and also rolled up white polo sleeves

double fishing line because multiple fishing lines happened not in one but in two separate episodes. and also cooler composition. also red outlines because he reaper killed with a fishing rod

also i want to add that i was listening to ocean breathes salty by modest mouse the entire time. very good song 10/10 gave me brain worms

an end crystal with a redstone block in the middle and a green crystal with cat paw beans for mumbo and scar respectively!

a pink gem on a fishing line!! a reference to grian's reaper kill

red zombie bites, as a reference to the zombie that demised grian (well. the zombie that knocked him off a tower and got a fall damage kill)

no wings!! well, wing ears technically, but no wings on he back!! because even though i sketched this on ep2 he still doesnt have an elytra as of his episode four. so just a wing pattern for now

So I was reading through the detective conan wiki and came across this screenshot

and instantly thought like what if instead of Conan trying to keep the detective boys out of trouble or his being the (unofficial) leader of them, what if instead Conan really was a bad guy/criminal and the detective boys were in charge of keeping him from committing crimes.

After being shrunk, Conan, somehow, gains an interest in crime. Instead of solving crime though, comitting crime, not murder (or not yet?) but more like small scale scams or thievery and what not. I'm no expert.

The detective boys latch onto Conan pretty early on, after his very first day in elementary school actually, and they also found the detective boys super early into the series (I think it's ep4), and at some point after that, I guess, Conan gains this fascination for committing crime. So he tries making plans for something or another, but his plans always get thwarted by either the detective boys or someone else, like in episode 5, when there's a bomb on the train and Conan wants to plant a bug, he tries to stick it in some gum and put it under the seat, but is caught by Ran and the detective boys. Except in this I guess it would be something more than just planting a bug. Look, there's a lot I haven't thought about, all this came to me like 10 minutes ago. You're welcome to flesh things out btw if you want and can think of anything.

And he still solves crimes and stuff. It tickles that part in his brain that likes puzzles and everything, so much that he'll drop plans for, like, a bank robbery in favor of figuring out whatever case he comes across on the way there. So I guess there would be two ways of preventing Conan from committing crimes, one would be to physically prevent him (not very safe, he bites, and he's slippery) or to find a crime that has already occured for him to solve.

And I don't think the police know, and if they do, they think it's a joke, but just imagine like the detective boys or Agasa frantically calling Takagi like "Quick! Give us an unsolved case!" as they're trying to get a proper grip on Conan XDDD Takagi thinks Conan is just really enthusiastic about becoming a police detective in the future. (Conan is the 20 year old with 10 years of job experience. Actually all the detective boys will, once they're adults, now that I think about it)

Hiiiii I am SO sorry this has been sitting for like. A month. Honestly I think canon Conan is already halfway there—he has a clear sense of morals and justice but almost no regard for laws. If it would solve a case or save a life, he has already shown himself willing to break and enter, and I’m pretty sure it’s not legal to kick a brick at someone’s face at 80 mph. To reference your ask more directly, if there were some key piece of evidence to nail the Black Org, Conan would absolutely plan and enact a bank robbery to get it. It’s details like this that remind me his character is strongly derived from the original ACD Sherlock Holmes.

That being said, I do love the idea of Conan going wildly Feral if there was ever too much time between cases. He just gets stir-crazy and will start to cause trouble on purpose, and the Detective Boys have taken it upon themselves to keep him in line (as best they can!). Ok here's a refined version of my Night Country theory before Ep4 undoubtedly proves me wrong. Hear me out.

Emerson studied Horizontal Gene Transfer, which is the movement of genetic material between organisms not through reproduction.

An example of this? Gene Transfer Agents or GTAs. The frozen microbes could be able to do this. Honestly just read the page it explains it better than I ever could. Once the DNA particles are made by the host, it pops and dies to release them. But not always right away! Check out the Lysogenic cycle.(This is how it works when a straight up bacteriophage virus infects a bacterium, since this science fiction our guy is probably an amalgamation of these things) The bacterium gets to go on with its life and reproduce like normal while the virus/virus like particle chills out. It takes a specific trigger for the virus to start reproducing and killing the bacteria hosts. What kind of triggers? Certain chemicals (from the mines?). UV radiation. Before the caribou go crazy right after the sun sets. Before the video on Molina's phone cuts out, there's a flash.

Intentionally or not, the scientists were infected with the virus. An outside trigger caused it to start the lytic cycle, and mass rupture of cells made them freak out and run onto the ice. The infection being in brain tissue could explain the bleeding ears? Maybe it put pain/ pressure behind their eyes and this is what made they claw them out? If it was in their fingers that's why they tried to bite them off? For some reason I think Clark was not affected in the same way.

Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon or My happy marriage Ep4:

M gosh this episode was a rollercoaster. First crying because of sadness, then because of anger and then because of happiness. IT´S ENOUGH!!! No more crying ( i say but I know i will cry again)

I really love how they play with the colors in this anime. <3 It´s always so perfect and shows us Miyos emotions in another way without many words.

I love that she tries to come out more and now she wants to gift him something back for his comb he gave to her. It takes courage and self confidence to take this step and I´m so proud of her. <3

XD I really love how he worries about her. And he doesn´t see her as a child, more like... she is important to him, so he doesn´t wanna see her getting hurt anymore.

It´s nothing important here but I really love his clothes. Like really. <3

Okay, tbh I had a lot of screenshots of this scene but I decided to use only one. Because first I do not wanna infect my post with her character. (my posts should be more positive lol) Her meeting in the manga raged me so much but seeing it in the anime was on another level. Do you know the feeling when you are so angry that you feel relaxed and tired but in your head you think: "Omg she should just..."???? Because this was my reaction. She is such a poor damn bitch. Poor, you asked. Well... her entire life revolves around Miyo although she doesn´t like her... more like she hates her, so she wishes her every bad thing. Then she doesn´t wanna have her in her life but then all she can think about is, how Miyo is and what bad things she witnessed in her new home. So she is obsessed with her big sister and this is so sick. Her fucking ugly smile while she talks to her sister and assumes, because Miyo has her used clothes on, that nobody cares about her and she is abandoned again. Her face says it all. Like girl... you are a damn psychopath. It´s always so surprising to me that people can hate a person so much, run around and say: "Oh I don´t care what happens to them!" and then they care so much about it. XD I don´t get this logic tbh. But you need to have a really boring life if your entire hobby revolves around a person you hate so much. (yeah yeah it´s a fictional story and I know it) but the sad thing is (and oh boy this is why I love this story so much) these characters are not exaggerated. They are out there and I love to see them in a story. Btw (because I really do not wanna talk about these bitches anymore in this post) I do not care when people will use her as a puppet to get Miyo. I will not feel sad about it. Maybe all these people will bite each other off, that would be the best solution tbh.

And also the scene in which she sees Miyos finance (Koudou-san) the first time is so ugly. Yes, she is right "he is beautiful" but this is the only thing she sees about him, so she is head over heels. This is another difference between her and Miyo. Miyo doesn´t see only the beauty in humans or things. She likes to have deep connection to them. While this bitch only sees the beauty in it and is only searching for her own advantage. This is her life, this is how she was raised and this her only goal because she likes to play this kinda role.

YES!!! This my man. Okay no... he is Miyos man, I´m sorry. XD But I like him so much. Go and tell them. He is so brave and it´s so good that he visited them and showed them how much he cares about Miyo. It was about time if you ask me. They really thought they could throw her out of the house like trash and she would be out of their life for eternity. But naaahhhhh at the end of the day we can all say "Thank you" to them that they abandoned her because she found a new warm home. On the other hand they should get punished for everything they did to her. So it was a wonderful move of him to point out that he knows everything what they did to Miyo. He knows about her abusement, he knows it and he won´t be silent about it. Because in the end he isn´t a cold and brutal man. He stands for respect and justice.

It´s the last thing they can do and yet they have to think about it. I really wanna puke on this shitty family. But in their eyes they did nothing wrong and everything was for a reason. It´s always the case that these type of people do not see the crimes they did.

The thing I said in the last post about self hatred (or was the post before that? I don´t know but I pointed it out somewhere). This is the perfect example. Everybody is giving her the fault for everything, so she starts believing it and hates herself for being like that. Psychological abusement and it´s not easy to come out of it. It´s important to have people around her who give her back her self confidence she has lost, but it will take some time. And little situations like that can throw her back in her black dark room in which she sits and can´t escape. I really really like how they pictured it and described it because this is one of the many things how you behave and feel if you have self hatred. There are many more and every human is experiencing another situation but we can all agree that they feel trapped and lost.

I love it that many more people are coming to Miyo and try to help her. Also her present for Kudou is so beautiful. <3 Also it was a very good move to invite the maid who was on Miyos side while had to live in this abusing family.

JUST SAY YOU LOVE HER!!!!! XDDDD Nah it´s okay, I can wait a little bit longer. And I love that they take small steps instead of one big step. It´s totally okay for me that they take their time. <3 Because I can appreciate every warm feeling they share, no matter how small they seem. So to ask her to stay with him in this big house, is really wonderful. A person is opening their arms to invite Miyo and say: "It´s okay if you don´t have powers. You are more than that and I really like you with or without it." (aawwww I love it so much <3)

And to end my long post, I will show you these two blushing. Awwwww ... I´m too single for this anime, but It´s so wonderful. :D GIVE ME MORE!!!!

Only Friends Music EP3 (1/2)

What am I to you?

Another installment of the Only friends music series. The details continue to be amazing, all praise JoJo.

Quick recap, music is used in three different ways:

Just background music (Background) - It’s important and creates an atmosphere, like using Disco Frog for Mew and Cheum’s chat at the bar. These I will not use unless I see a theme or something important later.

Playing with Music (Playful) - It’s like body language, the music will pause, start up, move along faster or slower. It's intentionally moving with what is happening on screen.

Verbal/Vocal - Music that is telling us things. It could be songs that have names that seem important or have lyrics that may or may not be in the show. If there are lyrics I will include them, but will specify if they are in OF, and where they start and stop.

Master List here, in my pinned post. These will be long and split into parts, mostly because of lyrics and Music players. Written after EP4 came out, so some EP4 spoilers.

Nick’s fallen hard, so hard, he’s using sex to plead with Boston to need him, love him, SEE him. Nick loves Boston, knows him better now, knows he can’t step out of the narrow box Boston has put him in, but now he’s cornered. Even though Nick sees himself in Boston, he has to keep his pride in check so he can play the submissive cute boy Boston wants.

“You're down for me. You can’t survive a day without me. I guess my status will be promoted soon.” He knows he’s being needy, Boston’s told him as much, so he’s doing the only thing he knows Boston won’t hate: Using sex to make Boston love him. Nick’s been throwing himself at Boston over and over, everyday. Until he feels sure that Boston will do anything to keep him from going away. Nick got brave, bringing up his status again with Boston. Boston says “It did. I’m your regular now.” Not what Nick was hoping for, he goes quiet.

Song: Daydreaming At Night by Heyson Scene: Boston and Nick discuss what they are Type: Playful

Song starts after “I’m your regular now” with a ticking sound, the keyboard chords come in when Boston becomes soft to him, and the drums start after “we did promote our status though” the music sounds more and more hopeful, mirroring Nick's mood. And as Boston stands up we get the vocals.

Nick’s other tool he can use to get Boston to bend, to become a little more soft to him, is to sulk. He did it in the darkroom, asking If he should be glad that he’s a favorite. He did it when he it asked what they were and ended up choosing Fuck Buddies. This time he’s getting Boston to give him a few more crumbs of hope. He'll do it again and again.

Song ends when Nick sets down the picture of the friends.

We're shown the pictures and get another twitter response: Maybe he isn’t serious with you because he’s got feelings for someone else.

This whole song hurts so much, unrequited love, maybe even obsession over someone who the singer thinks of as a replica.

It’s a simple scene, Boston comes to ask about cameras for the Hostel, and this cute song starts playing as they discuss security cameras. Nick brings up sound recording 3 times, Boston saying no each time, and Nick accuses him of not being interested in education.

Nick might be disappointed in Boston not wanting to share in what he likes. This is a maybe for me.

Nick wanted Boston to not just rely on him for camera stuff, wanting Boston to do some work on his own. This feels weak to me.

Nick is disappointed in Boston not wanting to be “educated” by spying on people. Nick is seeing himself in Boston, just like he tells Top in ep4. This is the second song that’s brought it up. So what in Boston is he seeing of himself? This is the explanation I like the most.

Boston is heavy handed with his manipulation, Nick is softer, quieter, quite literally. But they’re still out to get to their goal, they’re both obsessed. Boston uses mostly video surveillance, Nick uses sound, but I would not be surprised if he’d use anything he can get his hands on. Whatever is best for the situation.

Nick is trying to stretch Boston's morals, no matter what the education comment means. He tries three times to convince Boston to use sound recording. As @rocketturtle4 said, "He is trying to lead Boston astray." And I agree. Nick is soft, Boston is loud.

Putting in what was heard in the show because the rest is much the same, I’m going to say I don’t have enough information on this. It looks like Top is letting down his barriers and is enjoying his time with Mew. This is a song I’d love to come back to in the future.

Watching this scene “knowing” Beam is a dealer, not a lover, makes me think Beam knows Mew is a potential partner, and he wants to mess with Top. Beam “I’m taking care of you well in and out of bed” Beam knows what he’s doing and I don’t think Top told the whole truth. I think there is more to Beam and Top's relationship.

Is the song from Beam and Mew’s perspective? This interaction did mess with Mew(and me)

Another option is the song is from Top’s point of view, a version of Top who wants to date Mew, but is being made into a villain who Mew has to hold at a distance.

I do want to say Top starts calling Mew his boyfriend after this at the Pool party. Although that was in front of Ray, who he was feeling threatened by.

We start off with a double entendre.

Ray- “I’m hungry. Can I eat too?” Music starts here, guitar repeating a few times, joined by keyboard.

Sand- “Is there any duty I haven’t done for you? I’m your driver, drinking buddy, and shrink. And now I’m your chief?”

“There’s one more duty you haven’t said.”

“It’s a one-time thing. It doesn’t count.”

“It doesn’t have to be a one-time thing. I can eat more. It’s delicious.” Ray brings the food parallels back and starts the drums and bass.

“If you want to eat, help out. I’m sure you’ll love my Railway Fried Rice.” The guitar finally moves and starts to play a melody here.

As Ray and Sand are eating together, they continue the food innuendo. “It’s so good, I guess I have to eat it more often.” Sand replies “what is this? You’re not my special one. I don’t have to cook for you repeatedly” The music starts here, a bassline just repeating a riff. Sand reminds Ray again that they are not together, and that he said it was a one time thing.

“I’m not special yet?”

“We’re only friends. Friends who slept together.”

“That’s right. What? You think I want you as my boyfriend? Of course not. I just like to tease you. I like your stupid reaction.”

“You asshole. If you want a boyfriend, get yourself a boyfriend. Stop messing with me.”

As Sand walks away, Ray grabs his hand, and the music changes, we get rhythm guitar and wordless vocals. “Hey, Seriously, Are you ok with this?” More guitar as sand replies “Yeah, You’re happy, I’m happy. We don’t develop it. It shouldn’t be a problem, right?” Another change in guitar melody with “But I still want to talk to you” Sand reminds Ray, “I can differentiate between love and sex.” As they settle out the rest of it the music goes quieter again. Until Ray says “Finger-licking good.” and walks away, and we finally get the lyrics.

Stuck in a cycle, going around and around, we’re back at just friends, separating love and sex, Ray going off after flustering Sand “Finger licking good” “Priceless Night” They’re both making the same mistakes, Sand falling in love, saying he can separate love and sex. Ray himself is stuck in a cycle with his mom’s death and falling in love with his savior. Sand might also be stuck in his own cycle with the baggage of his ex and Top.

Oh hell yeah we'll get to one of my favourite spreads of the whole series in this Part.

I will also not excuse any swearing that I'm doing while writing this review.

Now I don't think I got this on my first read through, but the sound here ("Gakin") sounds very much like no bullet was loaded? Sooo I guess Wolfwood very cleverly anticipated this move by Legato so we have him double-tricking him! Good boy! (I haven't read all bookclub posts to vol8 yet, if smb else already said this, whoops)

It's started, guys. The inner thoughs of Wolfwood...You know when I started reading Trigun, I had just watched ep4 or 5 of Trigun and I thought Wolfwood was "just" another cool character, but basically a sidekick to the main character Vash. Then I binged the manga in 3 days and saw that, although none of the other characters like Meryl and Milly are any less fleshed out or any less important, next to Vash he's probably the only one about whom we get so so much wonderful insight. So much deep character feelings, so much thoughts...and I'm so so in love with his inner monologues. They hurt to read but they show he's not just the cool priest with the machine gun, but he's hurting, he's self doubting, he's vulnerable and afraid at times and he has wishes too...

And when he's sitting there, riddled with bullets, it's the thought of Livio and how he still has to save him, that manages to get him to keep going.

They were friends, brothers! Memories of happier times...

And also being turned to him with his body, partly shielding Wolfwood with himself, too. This whole page. is so...romantic. And that feels almost like it doesn't even describe it accurately. This is most definitely the part where I really started to ship them, but then, is it romantic or platonic? It doesn't really matter because as much as you want to or NOT want to interpret into their relationship at this point, to me it's clear that there's some kind of love here that's based on their mutual understanding, trust, and how they both have supported each other until this point.

Hit Bite Love Ep4

These are kids in high school, I'm not expecting accurate BDSM. But I need to talk about what is wrong with it.

The Dom only chooses their safe words, not yours. Both of you should have a safe word because both of you can be triggered. You should always pick your own because when things get tense, you won't remember what someone else picked for you.

You should never be gagged until you have experience in being able to use your safe word or tapping out. Nobody wants to make you use your safe word, that's a shitty Dom if they try that. However, a Dom should ask you "What's your safe word, do you remember?" In the thick of things to insure you know how this goes. After you've proven capable of that in a few plays, then you can move to gagging.

When gagged, you can't use a safe word, so you need to be able to tap out. Just like the safe word, I need you to prove to me that you know how to tap out. Typical, one tap for good to go, two taps to request things go slower, three taps to tap out.

There should be no throat restriction if gagging. It's one or the other, not both. That's just asking for a hospital trip.

Lighters in Malevolent

Hello, folks!

So, as loads of people have noticed, there’s some hinky stuff going on with the lighter in Malevolent. As I was going back through transcripts to see where it popped up, I thought it might be helpful to have a reference of all the lighter appearances so far (a sentence that sounded a lot more hinged in my head than when I typed it out.)

Obviously, there will be spoilers from EP1-26 under the cut.

Bold: Arthur obtains a lighter. Regular: Arthur uses a lighter. Italics: Relevant but not directly related to lighters.

For brevity purposes, I’ve also omitted repetitive lighter uses. (For example, if Arthur flicks on the lighter four times to guide himself around some tunnels, I’ve only noted the first go unless something has drastically changed in the meanwhile.)

(This is more of a reference post than a theorizing post, but IMO, a lot of the more Compelling lighter red-stringing pops up in later S2 + S3.)

Season 1

EP1: Arthur uses the lighter while exploring the ritual/sacrifice basement.

EP2: Arthur finds a flashlight in the trunk of his car. He leaves it after the crash.

EP3: Arthur uses a matchbook to light a candle, found in the Mansion.

EP4: Arthur steals Kellin’s lighter from his bed. He briefly drops it, and then lights Kellin’s bed on fire.

EP5: John remarks that they have nothing after the hospital, excepting clothes and several hundred dollars from the Lost and Found.

EP6: Arthur remarks that they need to get a flashlight and matches, which they buy at the gun shop.

EP7: Arthur searches for a lighter on his person to re-light the lighthouse wick. John responds that they have one, but it refuses to light in the heavy wind. He re-lights the lighthouse keeper’s supernatural lamp.

EP9: Officer Collin has a lighter at the start of the episode. Arthur takes both a lighter and a flashlight on the police boat, after the monster attack. He uses a lighter to start a fire on the beach.

EP11: Arthur uses the lighter for illumination and.to construct a torch.

EP12: Arthur uses the lighter to illuminate the hotel basement.. He initially refuses to light the boat lantern, but eventually does use the lighter to both burn the tadpoles and smash a lit lantern against the boat.

Season 2

EP13: Arthur finds his lighter in his bag while dealing with the Trader. He uses it to cauterize John’s wound.

JOHN: You said something back there. ‘This too shall pass’. (NB: In reference to Arthur comforting John before biting off his little finger.) ARTHUR: Yes. JOHN: Why did you say that? ARTHUR: I don’t know, it’s just a comforting thought. JOHN: It’s written on our lighter. ARTHUR: Oh, that’s right! (He pulls it out and flicks it.) That’s the one I had with me from... the office, way back when. Crazy to think it’s made it all this way. It’s not even really mine. JOHN: No? ARTHUR: No, found it in an old desk drawer when we moved in. JOHN: Interesting.

EP14: Arthur refers to the lighter when talking with the Three Soldiers.

EP15: Arthur uses the lighter to illuminate the tunnels.

EP16: Arthur momentarily drops and recovers his lighter. He uses the lighter to ignite the supernatural bullseye lantern.

EP17: Arthur lights and extinguishes the lighter per John’s wishes. He also uses the lighter to make his Molotov Cocktail.

EP19: Arthur barters back his lighter from the Trader after his imprisonment.

EP20: Kayne lists his things, but neglects to mention the lighter. In panic, John suggests the lighter to help with Lilly’s bleeding.

Season 3

Coda: Arthur uses the lighter to light a fire.

EP22: The following two exchanges -

As Arthur enters the washroom to bathe:

(The door shuts behind him. Arthur searches through his pockets.)

YELLOW: What are you searching for? ARTHUR: Our lighter. YELLOW: You have a lighter? ARTHUR: Of course, don’t you … you saw it. YELLOW: No. ARTHUR: You must’ve, you said – (NB: Reference to Yellow saying ‘This Too Shall Pass’ at end of EP21.) YELLOW: I didn’t see your lighter, Arthur. ARTHUR: Fine, must be in the bag. Any way to light the stove? We need to heat the water. It’s freezing in here.

After Arthur sees Uncle rummaging through his room:

ARTHUR: Oh. Um. (He starts to speak, in the same cadence as Kayne’s original rhyme. The main theme starts to play.) The glass, the stone, the mask, the books, the tooth, the coin, the wallet and … (Normal cadence) Some hooks. Um, the shaving kit, and my … uh, lighter should be in here, somewhere. YELLOW: What lighter? ARTHUR: The lighter, you – I used it... oh! (He flicks the lighter.) YELLOW: What? ARTHUR: Oh, it’s here, in my – in my … in my jacket. W-Wait! Didn’t I just…?

EP23: Yellow tells Arthur to pull out the lighter to illuminate their way in the estate. Arthur refuses.

EP24: In the mine, John asks Arthur where his lighter is. He finds it in his jacket again. He lights a lamp.

EP25: Arthur lights a torch with the lighter.

even more thoughts on hotd 1x10 because YES i am that bitter — on daemon, rhaenyra and aemond

making it very clear that daemon is rhaenyra's safe place — that marrying him and raising their children together in dragonstone is the first time she's been truly happy since she was a child

making it very clear that daemon cannot hurt rhaenyra and truly loves her (the bridge scene from ep2, the brothel scene from ep4, everything that took place on ep7 and 8) — that they've both found happiness in each other

making it very clear that aemond wishes to get revenge on lucerys, that his hatred for his nephew is bigger than his morals —that given the chance he would hurt him to balance the scales in his view

yet, in a single episode they managed to ruin every bit of characterization (and don't get me started on the corlys / rhaenys scenes regarding rhaenyra or alicent being once again a poor victim with no capability for evil — even though she ordered the murder of dozens of servants last episode)

they make daemon choke rhaenyra out of nothing, he just grabs her neck when she tells him about the prophecy. he chokes rhaenyra, his niece, the love of his live, HIS WIFE — his wife who just went through a traumatic birth and who lost THEIR BABY.

then, she realizes he didn't know about the prophecy. she doesn't mention anything about the choking even though she's his wife and queen. and he leaves. next time we see them together in a scene is when daemon goes to tell her about lucerys' death. he holds her hands, walks her away from the rest, and tells her. he was choking her a few scenes back and now he's lovingly holding her (???) and rhaenyra has nothing to say about anything (???)

and aemond... LET HIM BE A KINSLAYER. he WANTED to hurt lucerys. he CHASED him. he mocked him, taunted him. wanted to see the FEAR in his eyes. and then... vhagar decides to ignore his commands and kills both arrax and lucerys? and he's upset about it? aemond being a kinslayer is what makes his character interesting. without that — what even is he? a loser with one eye who envies his brother and his crown? an all bark no bite character? what satisfaction are we supposed to get during the battle above the god's eye then?

in conclusion: fuck their writing ! # my daemon (and the daemon written by grrm and the daemon they wrote for nine fucking episodes) would NEVER hurt rhaenyra. rhaenyra DESERVES to have a loyal husband by her side especially now that she's lost two children. aemond IS a kinslayer! he's a bad guy! he will burn the riverlands out of fun! let him be evil and morally corrupted!

let evil characters be evil characters, let grey characters be grey characters and most importantly stop butchering characters and relationships for shock value

don't remember if I saw it on your blog or someone else. but I saw a post that implied that Subaru's self harming started in ep4/ln2, when he didn't have his training injuries healed by Emilia.

idk about you, but that implies that Subaru's parents were more ...Combat Butler Hayate than canonical Parent and Child. just for the sake of my own sanity, I consider Subaru's self harm habits to be cause by Rem and Ram.

i think this is on me for not explaining my thoughts better, but i dont think subaru was actually self-harming all the way back in loop 2 at all. like you said, all the injuries he got were from the work he was learning to do, he even started listing them off to emilia proudly (this ones from cutting vegetables, this ones from the laundry, this ones a dog bite, etc.)

he sees them like mini battle scars, and because of RBD this means theyre also tangible proof of his experiences. i dont think that this is a bad mindset at all actually. especially given this was loop 1 of arc 2, so rem and ram hadn't even done anything bad at all either.

what i was more-so implying was how you could see a bridge being drawn from that healthy sort of "battle scar" mindset to a more harmful "proof of where i am right now" mentality. its not an uncommon thing for people to cut themselves as a form of self-grounding. even in arc 3, subaru had developed the habit of biting his lip until it bleeds when he got stressed out (stressed might be an understatement).

the thing is we never actually see him self-harm during the interlude between arcs 4 and 5, beatrice only references it as something that happens when she sees the scars on his wrist. so we cant know his exact mindstate about it.

so this is largely speculation, but i think i can see how point A lead to point B... subaru is dealing with multiple lifetimes worth of ptsd, so it makes sense that even during his downtime (the timeskip) he would need something to keep him grounded when things got rough. and something like a cut is tangible proof that hes alive and there, especially since he could physically feel the pain. the difference now is just that its self-inflicted... like he said in arc 2, its his proof. thats how i see it at least.

I'm really grateful to every one who has responded to or reblogged my Ray meta post. In fact, the entire series of them has received so much love and kind words I wasn't expecting and it means a lot to me. Ray's journey has become so deeply personal and your engagement really makes me feel seen in a way that is more healing than I can explain.

@savagebisand mentioned in their tags that I need to write fic about Sand teaching Ray how to love - and I am! I'm a very slow writer and I haven't even finished writing all the meta I've wanted to write from ep4 (and already ep5 is upon us hahaha) so here is a little sneak peak of what I've been working on for SandRay:

It lives in fragments within him, that sharp bits of a broken mirror lodged in his chest for so long that its a dull ache he barely notices, edges scratching against soft tissue drawing blood in warmth that drowns him inside and keeps him afloat. It cuts every time he moves, every time his heart beats every time there’s- When you said you are open, are you open enough for someone like me? He kisses Sand and it rushes out of him, the loneliness that isn’t an emptiness but rather a festering pool of things that were once beautiful and full of hope, that held so much of the things he wanted to give, that no one has ever wanted. He wraps Sand up in a mulch that devours life and Sand takes it with loving, gentle hands; gives it back in the simple gesture of pushing him back into the couch and covering him with kisses, and the little puffs of his breath on his skin, a proof of the living. And it lingers. The taste of it in the fried rice that they make and the kisses that Sand denies him. And the kisses that he grants, in the smile he presses to Ray’s lips and the tender, hungry bites he takes of Ray's neck.

This actually reminds me of a conversation on reddit the other day, about how people who've always had happy families (or at least, no truly shitty family members) often cannot wrap their minds around the idea that someone who is nice to them could be an abusive piece of shit to someone else, and you end up in these situations where naive people try to force a reconciliation or pull a "but they're your faaaaaamily" or just straight-up don't believe your version of events, because nobody could be that horrible to their own kids, right???? I don't think that's what Glimmer's doing here but it still sucks for Adora.

also we see Catra hand Double Trouble an actual little bag of (presumably) coins, what currency do you think Etheria uses??? Like who sets the standard for it. The most obvious thing would be that it's just coins of some standardized weight of a metal rare enough to be valuable. But it's funny to ask yourself if it's like, the kind of coins with someone's face on it, because whose face would it be?! Because then either the Horde and everyone else would be using different currencies (which would be useless across sides) or they're all using the same currency. Some obscure person from Etherian history, probably.

Also I'm not sure the Horde actually pays anyone. I think it's just "you can get enough to eat (barely), and a place to sleep (sort of), and uhhh you can fight each other over getting a small step up in power"

As usual I am overthinking the world-building here lolll

I'm not one who likes to engage in "whataboutism", but I will ALWAYS maintain that between Wanda and Clint, what Clint did in his grief was morally worse than what Wanda did in Westview.

I think it's a point in Wanda's favor that she had an accidental unleashing of her powers in a moment of anguish. And no one died in Westview.

(I'll even bite and argue that Clint's crimes as Ronin were morally worse than Wanda's kills in DSMOM because Wanda at least has the defense/excuse of being corrupted by the Darkhold, while Clint was completely himself when he committed his crimes.)

It's an interesting debate. A lot could be written about free will, self-awareness, temporary insanity and grief. I think Clint's experience is a little more complex than what those comments try to imply... but if I start talking about my beloved hawk guy I might end up with a crazy-ass long answer, so let me focus on Marvel instead.

I never took the Hawkeye series as an attempt to justify his crimes as Ronin, he was given a story that tackled his guilt and let him move on from that. And THAT is the main issue here imo.

Marvel is wildly inconsistent when it comes to judging and framing characters. You can't tell me Bucky has to make amends and take responsibility for the Winter Soldier, and then refuse to acknowledge Clint's crimes in EG + let him off the hook in the season finale of his series while other characters still have to pay for shit they did a decade ago.

How are we not going to complain? The Hawkeye series came after TFATWS where Bucky was retraumatized & victim blamed and after the Loki series where everything in his past is ignored and he's even blamed for things he didn't even do. So of course when we see a story where Clint is allowed to move on, a lot of people are mad. And rightfully so!

But the problem is not that Clint is being given narrative protection, the problem is that victims are being treated as executioners in other movies/series. At least Wanda was treated beautifully in her series, but she's the odd one out.

And I think that's why many fans see Clint's series as justification for Ronin. But it's not. At least not for me, I think both he and Wanda got series that focused on their pain, guilt and grief. Wanda got ep8 and Clint said this in ep4:

"Everybody dealt with the Blip in their own way. I continued doing what I was trained to do. […] Hurting people. Investigating first, but in the end, my job has always been to hurt people. […] I was a weapon. I was aimed by the right people at the right targets, so… […] (Those mistakes are) tied to me. Tied to my family. That’s why I’m here. And I can’t go home till I fix it."

I don't think that's narrative protection, that's giving a character the chance to move on from his mistakes, which is something we don't get often. He got an awful lot of narrative protection in EG but I didn't see that in his series. One of the main differences though is that his victims were never humanized nor given the time of day, whereas Wanda's get names and we know them pretty well.

Either way, if it comes to comparing his and Wanda's actions.. dunno. Like I said at the beginning, he was aware of what he was doing but man, that pain and grief must have been insane.
