@ People who are worried about buying secondhand because it isn't directly giving money to a doll company: buying secondhand is actually a huge help to the community! Supporting other people buying dolls, finding homes for dolls that would otherwise be neglected... have you seen how often people talk about how even decently priced dolls are slow to sell secondhand? YOU can help with that! A healthy secondhand market supports the BJD community just as much as buying new, if not more. People may very well be less likely to buy a specific doll from the company if they worry about difficulties selling it if they don't bond with it or it otherwise isn't to their tastes when it arrives. But a healthy secondhand market means that people can be more confident buy a doll new in the first place! It's like symbiosis or something. Idk. But I do think it's silly to act like buying secondhand harms companies as much as, say, buying a recast. Supporting a flourishing legit BJD community will help everyone in it!

Question for the BJD Community
⚠️This gotten unnecessarily long so I will put the question and information under the cut to not take up a lot of the TL for people!⚠️
I had this question for a while because I’ve recently been getting into BJD’s… This might be hyper specific, for that I am sorry.
But, I recently been looking into doll’s because I’d love to make some of my favorite characters, like Squares and Marle (both Puyo Puyo characters btw), but I don’t like the semi-realistic style most dolls have.
So, I was looking into anime-style ones and haven’t had much luck on that front either…
But, also some of the characters I’d like to make a doll for are children, like Squares, and they have no official merchandise so this is one of my only few options to have something for them.
I haven’t located any child dolls that I could customize to be Squares…
I know the hobby is expensive, which is why I have only been lurking in the community and doing research — I don’t have the money to make any purchases yet, but one day I will.
But, I need help on finding the right dolls to use for the characters I wanna make. But I can provide some help.
I need a child-like doll that can easily be held in the palm of someone’s hand, I don’t know the “size” the doll would be.
I’d need two taller dolls that are not children (with a flat chest, it needs to be feminine not masculine), that can hold the child doll easily. But other dolls can be larger than them.
Cutesy eyes that come in a pink-red (maroon?), gold, and indigo-blue.
Options for wigs, I don’t know what to do there. I need light yellow-green and dark blue in specific.
And finally, two last things I need help with.
I need help/tips on how to make outfits or source good, high quality clothing for the dolls I buy.
And tips on doing face-up’s for my dolls, like what you guys recommend and all of that. I can do the face-ups myself since I can draw really well, so information about tools/equipment that’s recommended for face-ups can help as well.

The doll community: "no judgement, we're all weird in here!"
Also the doll community: "We're so oppressed because people judge us for having dolls as grownups"
Also the doll community: "I need my tiny doll with me for emotional support or else I can't go outside"
Also the doll community: *walk their Reborn babies in strollers and pretend-breastfeed them in public*
Also the doll community: "ew, people who own such and such dolls are weird"
Like sure this is technically a sx doll, but I don't even use him that way while BJD collectors blow up confession blogs with how they stick their resin dolls up their unmentionables, nut on them, or take lewds of them😐

I don’t tell people this because I don’t want to seem like a crazy cat lady AND crazy doll lady all in one… but my dolls represent my cats if they were human. Their human sonas if you will.

friends, i am begging you. look deep into my eyes. you can create things for fun. you can do things for fun. please remember how to have fun and stop looking at everything from the grindset mindset and learn to look at things from the perspective of "i can do things just to do them and i don't even have to finish or be good at them i can just do them because i think it'd be neat." i think social media has ruined something fundamental about being a person...

VoIks patenting some amazing new technology resin that doesn't yellow (Ev3rBeauty) that costs like a grand extra and then it coming out within a few years that the white skin version of it yellows FASTER than their regular white skin (with) customers reporting noticeable yellowing in only 2 years) has got to be one of the most colossal fuckups of the entire hobby. I'm surprised this isn't a bigger scandal that it is? Are Volks aware of it? Did they fix it? Or are people still paying extra for white resin that yellows faster??? Hopefully just one of the early batches was bad but the lack of any official statement is not a great look.

I really miss being able to sort instagram tags by 'newest post first' because it was a great way to find new/small accounts of doll owners. I miss finding new people with interesting dolls...

I love custom character dolls. I love when someone cares about a little fictional dude (or dudette) so much they gotta recreate them as a doll. I love seeing how they approach the sculpt, wig, outfit. I love seeing the photos. And I love the idea of having a 3D blorbo I give IRL headpats to.
I like official character dolls too, of course, but there’s just something about the necessity of effort for custom dolls that is very charming to me.
