Fun Fact
BuzzFeed published a report claiming that Tumblr was utilized as a distribution channel for Russian agents to influence American voting habits during the 2016 presidential election in Feb 2018.
In honor of 2024 being the year of the dragon in the Chinese zodiac, it felt appropriate to repaint my own noodle dragon girl Dollzone Po in white skin. I had absolutely hated the previous Faceup I’d put on her for many reasons, so I was happy to redo her. Also who can resist shimmer freckles?
See for yourself in the before and after below!
The new Faceup is much much cuter in my opinion. I opted for no applied eyelashes this time because her eyes are just so dang small!
The redo was prompted by her new wig, which was the first wig I’d ever sewn like this. The part is messy, but acceptable to me and not bad for my first time working with sewn wefts!
She’s just so adorable, I’m glad I finally bonded with her
My first doll project of 2024 was to re-style Ember. I made my first sewn wig from pre-made wefts and I am happy with it!
The part is messy, but it's not bad for my first wig like this. The wig cap is fabric and I bought it years ago from Angelesque still. I sewed most of the wefts on while the cap was on her head.
With her new pastel pink and mint wig, I finally kicked myself in the butt to also redo her faceup. I opted for now applied eyelashes this time because her eyes are so narrow that you can't see them at all.
This was her previous faceup and wig. The wig always was meant to be temporary, because I don't like it that much, but it was the only one I didn't feel bad cutting holes into for her horns.
The transparent horns are magnetic, but the solid ones are not, and of course they are a very awkward position making it impossible for her to wear normal wigs. Yes, the wig I sewed has holes cut into it for her horns. It's stretchy which is the only reason it goes over the horns at all.
The what is what:
Sculpt: Dollzone Po in white skin
Eyes: unknown 12mm glass eyes
Outfit: unknown, was a gift
Wig: Mohair Fiber by LaFiabaRussa, sewing and styling by me
After wanting to do it for so long, I’m finally opening some beginner portfolio-building faceup slots! Because I’m new and cautious, I’d like to only take one or two comms for now.
Please DM me for any questions at all, I’m more than happy to talk out face-up ideas and provide rough mock-ups before any commitments are made! Clean mock-ups are included in the commission prices.
Shipping is from the US, and is not included in prices. I am happy to purchase blank DD heads from Volks to repaint, but otherwise you will be responsible for shipping the head to me, and I will reuse the box sent for its return.
Finally a proper photoshoot with Fyodor 💕 (I had to headpat him at the end 😭) Will probably post these in segments, I took quite a bit. I'm also working on chibi dolls of both Fyodor and Jouno! Stay tuned for those 🥰🥰
BEHOLD! Garbage photos.
We actually had a pretty successful run! I am very pleased with the results of the Liquitex Matte Medium alone. As suggested I used a cheap cosmetic sponge to dab the texture on. I did three layers before I was fairly satisfied, then I tried my luck on Little Enya and it was awesome! It was over an already completed paint job, though the test over raw pastel did well and it barely pulled up any color. (Using PanPastels)
This will be a regular technique from now on. I’m very, VERY curious how a whole body blush/texture would look. I scraped my nail over the tester parts pretty roughly and was impressed with how they held up.
So, in May I attended PNW BJD Expo and did a faceup presentation/demo. For that I took exhaustive step by step photos of the faceup on my Megu and made a whole Powerpoint presentation on it. You can read it if you want! But be warned that the notes are speaker notes and not proofread at all, haha.
Doing this spooky inspired skull faceup on this Faewoods Dolls Dahlia in lavender skin was fun and a challenge! The skull part is mostly acrylic with some pastel blushing.
