Congratulations to Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Agnetha Fältskog on being honored with the Royal Order of Vasa for their outstanding contributions to Swedish and international music.
The Royal Court has announced that the four royal orders of chivalry, the Order of the Seraphim, the Order of the Sword, the Order of the Polar Star, and the Order of Vasa, will be awarded again.
For the first time in almost 50 years, the Royal Orders of Chivalry have been awarded to Swedes for exceptional contributions. The recipients of the Order have been nominated by the public, and the name proposals have been prepared by the Council of the Order at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. His Majesty's Order. Today, the government supported the proposed names, and His Majesty The King formally decided to confer the Order.
Through an agreement with broad political consensus, the Riksdag has decided that the four Swedish royal chivalry orders will again be awarded to Swedish citizens. Subsequently, in December 2022, the government agreed on a new ordinance for Sweden's most prestigious awards for meritorious contributions.
These awards include the four royal orders of chivalry: the Order of the Seraphim, the Order of the Sword, the Order of the Polar Star, and the Order of Vasa. The purpose of the new ordinance is to enable the state to recognize and reward meritorious efforts beyond what can be expected of a person in the area where the person works. For example, it can be a courageous life-saving effort, a scientific achievement, or an effort of great importance to Sweden.
