BL Recommendation list: My top shows
In no particular order, the BLs I would recommend watching without thinking twice (well, maybe about the rating if the person is underage)
Thai
KinnPorsche
Mafia boss Kinn gets a new bodyguard against both their wishes, Porsche. Over time they find out they are each other's missing piece amongst shady dealings, intrigues, family affaires and probably the most twisted villain in any BL so far, Kinn's father. One side couple simply gave me the creeps and made no sense to me, but the other one was just THE BEST and sweetest thing, with so many loose ends and questions it will probably have me thinking about these fictional characters for years.
I told sunset about you/ I promised you the moon
Stunning coming of age story, with similar quality and production to KinnPorsche. The best Thailand has to show so far.
Moonlight Chicken
Very adult problems and good story telling. The whole cast is great and so is the chemistry between all characters. I loved that we got to see something different from the usual high school or university age, rich people stories. Even the high school age side couple, has other problems, with one of them being deaf.
Bad Buddy
A fun story, touching moments and great acting in a typical thai university setting. Just don't watch the extension in "Our Skyy 2". It's non-sensical and missing the chemistry.
My school president
Light hearted high school romance, that doesn't shy away from addressing things like homophobia. Just a tad too much music in there for my taste, but it's still ok since they can actually sing.
Taiwanese
We best love (1+2)
Full on pining for years, an enemy to lovers show of sorts that manages to make even the sequel interesting and makes you want more. Great actors and a side couple whose story is so complex that they deserve their own show.
My tooth, your love
Horrible title, amazing show from the team of "We best love". Aloof dentist meets fluffy bar owner who suffers from ptsd. The two grow closer and the shy dentist turns out to be THE best flirt around, but gets rejected at first. Watch it!
Trapped (History 3)
The original mafia BL. Dorky Policeman falls in love with ridiculously hot mafia boss while the two somehow work together on solving an old case. It's not really cruel, so the mafia thing is just a general setting here.
Korean
Semantic Error
Set in his ways nerd gets harassed by the popular boy because he refused to let him pass in class. While they work together they fall for one another.
Cherry Blossoms after Winter
Slow burn and not without its' issues, but somehow I find myself watching it again and again without knowing why. I just like the show.
Japanese
Utsukshii Kare (My beautiful man)
The show I have the most complex love/hate relationship with. During most of the first season I HATED Kiyoi for being such an awful bully. For most of the second Season I HATED Hira for being such an idiot and hurting Kiyoi in the process. I was pacified both times by the last episodes and the great talent of both actors. There are not that many shows who get me that much emotionally in certain scenes, whether that is rage or melting because they are so cute. Since season 2 I am basically in love with Kiyoi because of his character growth. I have not seen the movie yet, so that might change again once I finally get to watch it. As far as I know it's not released yet anywhere but in Japan. let me know if I am wrong.
Cherry Magic
Shy guy turns thirty and because he is still a virgin, he starts to hear peoples thoughts and learns that the popular guy at the office is actually in love with him and a total disaster simp. The movie changes the storyline a bit, but shows them growing into who they really are.

This is the positive effect of BL and GL series.
Although there are many factors involved. I'd like to think and believe that BL and GL series played a significant role in normalising and showing just how beautiful same sex relationships can be. Also, it cannot be a coincidence that these two asian countries that moved towards this step happen to be two of the biggest producers of BL and GL series.
Taiwan was the first asian country to legalise same sex marriage on 24th May 2019.
And now, Thailand is moving towards becoming the second (or third since Nepal has recognized some same-sex marriages in 2023 and 2024 under an interim order from the Supreme Court while a final judgment is forthcoming so depending on when each countries' final judgement is taken) asian country and first south east asian country to legalise same sex marriage.

It just occurred to me that there are a bunch of new BL fans who onboarded via KinnPorsche and now the next thing they're probubly watching is
Love in the Air
BUT THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE IN FOR
and i don’t know how i feel about this
but i am currently grinning like an evil mad thing so I suspect a mixture of smugness and schadenfreude
we sicked MAME on them
or iQIYI did
heh heh

Listen, I enjoy watching BL as much as the next person. But if these relationships were real? I'd be telling all of them to break it off. Cause fuck, these relationships are so toxic! Not to mention the whole deal with fanservice during promos and stuff like that. I really hope that the industry sorts that whole mess out and starts to move towards healthier relationship representation and less cringey fanservice

Shout out to Unknown for demonstrating that serious injuries do have long-term affects on your body and your mind.
There isn’t an episode that goes by where we aren’t reminded of everything Qian has gone through to get to where he is. And it’s not just from flashbacks. It’s in the scars that remain on his body. The nightmares that haunt his sleep. In his interactions with women. His fierce protectiveness of his family. Qian’s triggers and responses to them make sense and don’t just appear out of the blue for dramatic effect.
So much of the emotional and physical trauma that Qian has experienced continues to impact his daily life in a way that makes him feel less like a character with a tragic backstory and more like an actual person with lived experience.

BL actors really need to be treated as regular actors. The 'fixed pair' thing does them more harm than good.
Like regular actors they should act with whoever they want whether it be the same person or someone else. The fixed pair thing causes the fans to get attached to them almost as if they are a real couple so when they decide to act with someone else it feels like a break up to the fans.
Perth meeting Saint at his graduation and hugging him and taking a selfie with him even though he is paired with Chimon right now is how things should be. Just because you are acting with someone else right now doesn't mean that you cannot have a cordial relationship with someone you acted with before. And, that is much better than not talking to your previous acting partner at all so that the new ship is supported, that just feeds into the delusion of a couple breaking up and finding a new partner.
This is also one of the biggest reasons I feel Neo was able to tell everyone about his girlfriend. He did not have a fixed pair in the first place and he always maintained a cordial relationship with all his acting partners without investing in heavy fanservice to make the fans believe that they are a couple. Hence, the support from his acting partners.
Whereas in other cases when one person from the fixed pair reveals their relationship, fans often feel that the other person is betrayed because for them that relationship was as real as could be and nothing was done to stop that delusion.

nothing but respect for my boy gun. little man caught feelings and within two episodes has slow danced with his crush, slept in the same bed as him, gone on a date to the school activities fair with him, gotten him into a waiter costume, forced him to partake in a coffee shop au, and secured the ultimate signal of gay commitment: the pinkie hold. what can i say. he gets shit done. and he does it all while wearing an oversized chinchilla blanket hoodie.
this is the face of the most powerful man alive. argue with the wall.

Random BL Superlatives: 2023 Edition
It's the end of the year and I'm feeling the need to give out some awards! We talk a lot about best show, best actors, best writing, best directing, blah blah but I gotta be honest, these are the categories that really spoke to me this year. In no particular order:
Best supporting garment: Porsche’s sweater, A Boss and A Babe
Did I create this entire list just to have an excuse to post about this sweater one more time? Maybe so.
Best performance despite a terrible wig: Daou, Love in Translation
This man managed to perform one of the hottest scenes of the year with that bowl cut monstrosity on his head. Respect must be paid.
Best new terminology: BGP, Bump Up Business
BUB gave us so many gifts, but I will always be most thankful for the business gay performance concept (BGP), a term that is highly relevant in discussions of the bl industry.
Best advice: "Unfuck it," Tien in La Pluie
It's not only the succinct phrasing, but also the delivery method.
Best ex who deserved better: Alan, Moonlight Chicken
Yes, I will be staying on the Alan apologist beat in 2024, thank you for asking.
Best unexpected needle drop: Wetter, The Eighth Sense
The moment this show captured my full attention.
Best WTF ending: The End of the World With You
You can probably still hear my scream of "WHAT" echoing in the hills. (Actual ending not pictured in case y'all decide to watch).
Best gut punch line: "Have you been well? Without me?", Our Dating Sim
Sure Shin Gi Tae, Lee Wan deserved it, but did I??
Best adorable child: Tane, Our Dining Table
Need I say more??
Best weapon: sparkle murder dust, Khun Chai
Truly the MVP of this show. I can't find an actual gif of the dust in action (too violent to be depicted) so enjoy these pretty men instead.
Best great character trapped in a bad show: Boston, Only Friends
My beloved, I will seek vengeance in your name.
Best use of music to fuck me up: Plumeria, I Feel You Linger in the Air
Cocktail and Tee Bundit, you know what you did!
Best meal: Chicken curry and cheese naan, What Did You Eat Yesterday?
Yes, this category is kind of a cheat so I can mention WDYEY on this list. And what about it!
Best unhinged energy: Nawin, Laws of Attraction
He may not have succeeded at stealing back his man but he certainly stole the show.
Best bl horror: Grand Guignol
I just need to make sure all you jbl fans know that this movie exists and that Issei fucked Mr Unlucky!!! IYKYK.
Best character comeback: Phupha, Our Skyy 2
From boring stoic love interest to actually compelling and kinda funny leading man! See what a little flirting with Pat Jindapat can do for you?!

The Omegaverse finally showing up in Pit Babe on the anniversary of people being convinced KinnPorsche was the gay remake of Goncharov is WILD.
Thai BL is no longer a soft power.
It's coming for world domination.
