A Taste of Winter.

Mitsuya x female reader. 

Time skip Mitsuya (~ 27 years old.) 

Tokyo revengers oneshot.

Synopsis; Winter in Tokyo has finally arrived. It was time to wear your warm knitted sweaters with your warm boots and finally go to that favorite cafe you spend almost everyday in. It wasn’t until a stranger arrived that soon later, you will be drinking a warm cup of coffee accompanied by him. 

Contains: Fluff, meeting someone new, first love, warmth, coffee, same interests. 

I decided to write more of the Tokyo Revengers’ characters, and take a small break from writing about the Haikyuu guys lol.

  Four years ago you have moved to study in Japan. It was probably one of the best decisions you have ever made. Living in Japan was great. You were able to finally be alone, learn about the culuture and study fashion there. You dream at first was to live in New York City, and become a designer there. But you were one of the few students at your University to allow a transfer and intern job outside of the States. 

   Since you moved there during winter time, you one day came across a local coffee shop. You loved to spend your mornings there. You will usually carry a small tote bag, that had a little stuffed animal hamster on it. You will always carry your belongings and a book in there to read. You enjoyed to read in silence, drinking your warm cinnamon flavored hot coffee, and a chocolate croissant. 

   You did not have many friends, which was not bad for you. You did have classmates which you will hang out once in a while with, but most of the time, you enjoyed being alone. You loved having alone times, specifially in the morning. 

   One random day, you pick up your cup, not taking your eyes off the new book you were reading. It wasn’t until a bitter taste ruined your taste buds. You make a very disgustgly face as you look up to lavendar eyes looking straight at you, trying to hold his laughter. “I think you just drank my coffee.” He says in a warm tone. You blush, standing up in embarrassment and offering him a new cup of coffee. “It’s okay, you only took a small sip, no biggie for me.” He returns your coffee and sits two tables down from you. 

    You were trying to continue reading the book you had but couldn’t seem to concentrate after that embarrassing encounter. You saw how he gently picked up the coffee, drinking it exactly from where you have. You left you light red lipstick stain on the cup, feeling a warmth feeling forming around your cheeks. “That’s an inderect kiss.” you thought to yourself, gathering your stuff and taking off in an instant. 

     From there on out, you will notice him coming into the shop everyday. You swore you have never seen him in your life, but thought he was so gorgeous. The way he had his long black locks touching his eyes, and always dressed so nice. You loved his eyes, those round lavender eyes that you will catch from time to time staring at you. You loved especially when he was dressed in long sleeve turtle neck with a long peacoat. You curiously asked the owner if he was new here, having the owner laughing. “He too asked for you that day you two swapped coffees. He is a regular here, he came right before you actually.” You couldn’t help but become a blushing mess, and was now curious of him. Wondering how you have never noticed him before.

    He sat down one day in front of you, asking you what was so good about sweet coffee. You laughed telling him that you have always loved sweet things and asked him what was so goo about bitter coffee. From there on out, you two will meet every morning at the coffee shop, to find out you both worked at the same designer place. Every morning from finishing your coffee, you two will head to work together. 

    People will see you two walk together, always in the best fashion ever. You two loved to combine your outfits without ever agreeing too. It was specifically during winter, where you guys will dress the best. From knitted sweaters to peacoats, from the mute colors of browns and ivories to burgundies and blacks.

   One day, you saw that Mitsuya did not make it to your now morning routine. You felt out of place that morning, feeling like something was missing. You continued your routine that morning, but the taste in your coffee was different. You knew that Mitsuya’s presence was missing. The taste of your coffee was extra sweet having him there. That was when you knew you have developed feelings for him.

   After work that day, he met you outside of the enterance. It was a cold winter night, and you felt bad not knowing he was waiting out there for you. “Y/n, I’m sorry I didn’t go today, I had overslept due to me staying up finishing my project.” You gently smile, feeling warm inside knowing that he was thinking of you. 

   The way he asked you to be his girlfriend was adorable. He of course met you at the coffee shop. Bringing a boquet of white roses, and a lavendar knitted sweater he made for you. He had already ordered your usual breakfast and was nervously sitting at the spot you always sit at. Before he even said anything, you sat in awe staring at him. 

   “Yes.” you say as you look away at the big rustic window watching the snow gently fall to the ground. “W-wh-what?” His face was completley red, with his hands clasped together on his lap. “I accept.” He once again looks at you confused. “How did ya know?” You gently laugh, finally laying your warm eyes at him. “I just know. I would love to be your girlfriend Takashi.” 

    Every winter was not as lonely as usual. Yes you loved being alone, but now accompanied by your boyfriend was the best. You loved to sit and look up seeing him. If it was him looking down on his laptop reading emails, or him looking straight at you. It was no longer you fully invested in your books. It was now you holding hands with him while you will read. Sometimes words will stay silent, but eachother’s presence is what made you happy. 

It was the taste you were looking for. A taste of love in winter.

With atsv having so many diverse characters here’s your friendly reminder that when dating outside of your culture you need to pay attention to the nuances of that other culture even for your writing.

Don’t be talking about rubbing hands through Hobies WICKS or speaking about punk culuture or anarchy without understanding what they truly are and mean for hobies personality, make sure your Spanish or Hindi is translated properly if you’re writing miggy, pav or miles, mixed kids have a racial identity, and 2 ethnic identities (Miles is racially BLACK he will experience life as a black person does because he looks black. Ethnically though he’s AFRICAN AMERICAN & PUERTO RICAN he doesn’t exist as one or the other) these things are important to these characters and who they are and ignoring them or not bothering to research the culture is not the move you think it is. Also listen to the people from the main culture(s) if they say you messed up somewhere!

Nobodies being mean here but these are real peoples identities as well. POC rarely get characters we can relate to, that we look like, ones that we would want to see irl. Like Hobie’s mere existence as a character is so important to me as a black person that is alt and shares similar beliefs. I know it may not seem that deep to some people but representation seriously matters, even in fiction.

Matthew A. Cherry and Sony Picture Animation’s Hair Love Short Film is exactly the content we need to be more proud of our natural curls. 

If you have young kids and stopped by the movie theaters earlier this year to see The Angry Birds 2 movie, you may have been pleasantly surprised by a beautiful display of Black hair culuture. Matthew Cherry’s short film displaying a Black dad learning to do his daughter's hair for the first time resonates. To some, this may seem slight, but to the tons of Black guys who have to figure this out, it is completely relatable and triggers warm feelings.

Now, I dont have daughters but I have a younger sister and growing up my brother and I were sometimes tasked with doing my sister’s hair before school. We got it done, but this was long before Google, YouTube, and anything smartphone or internet so trial and error were real... Love you Shanel!

This warm story of a young girl and father trying to figure out her natural locks while her mom is away is absolutely relatable. Although dad was initially overwhelmed and decided to roll with a hat, he quickly realized how important it was to his daughter to have a beautiful style to show off to a special someone. 

By the end of the animated film and a few failed attempts, both worked together to get the job done!

Open entry. Use photos, videos, to further think about global hip hop artists. Move outside of Canada and the US. Write about artists and why you think they are important for us to know about. 

I explored UK underground hip hop a few years back, starting with JayKae, a young rapper from Birmingham. The first time I ever heard him was on a youtube video from JDZmedia which was published on June 20th of 2013, and I instantly got interested in researching other rappers outside of North America, because the overall sound of his music was different from what Im personally used to, the slang is different, and his accent was obviously different. Now, Stomzy, Skepta, Giggs, Jme, and other UK based artists are more commonly heard on mainstream media stations in North America, and I feel like this only opened up this competitive industry to others culutures, merging not only the industries of global rap into North Ameican rap, but potentially may link our cultures, and acceptance once an for all as well.

So, recently I’ve noticed that there are a lot of upcoming artists originating specifically from China, Korea, the Phillapenes etc, and are making it into mainstream media outlets in North America. I find it really fascinating because these are places where Hip Hop isin’t the most common genre of music to practice, and in the Noisey interview (video #3) Keith Ape (discovered by Sean Miyashiro, founder of 88Rising media company), mentions how when people think of Korean music, immediately, you think of k-pop, and he wants to break out of that, and bring Korean rap here. He also mentions how North America has been very accepting and supportive of his music, like iLoveMakonnen. Which brings me to my next point, even in videos 3 & 4, all of the rappers reacting to both videos only say positive things, and even some mention how they would love to collaborate with these artists. In the first facebook video, the Higher Brothers (a Chinese rap group discovered by 88Rising too), Sean Miyashiro says, “You see a lot of people griping about, like, you know, the whitewaashing of Hollywood, and very little Asian representation in entertainment and stuff like that. And I think that our philosiphy is, the way to kind of break out of that is be really fucking good at what you do. Be undeniable. and do it yourself.” and then it hit me harder when  MaSiWei (马思唯), one of the 4 Higher Borther members answers a question about the hate on them being told that they ‘appropriate black culture’ negatively, “We learned its black culture. So, we studied from them. And now, its 2017. The world is more close. Black people watch Japanese cartoons. We listen [to] hip-hop. It’s same thing. Were more close” (5:18 Min). He explained something, I always couldn't explain because being a white female, I feel like some people are quick to take my words wrong, and sometimes simplistic explanations are the most effective, and I couldn’t have said it any better. In the second video, the best and funniest reaction is at 1:23 Min when Lil Yachty says, “And he’s going dumb, I dont know what he’s syaing, but it sounds like he’s going crazy”.  I laughed really hard because of the way he said it, and his face, but he made a good point ironically, we don’t need to know what they're saying to understand that they have talent, which is why North American music is interesting to people outside of that. Maybe more people will like rap music again, and stop worrying about the “youngins” that they don’t like.  It makes me happy, and its amazing that (in video 3) none of the rappers are butt hurt over “Rich Chiggas” name (he changed it to Rich Brian more recently), because they saw it as a harmless funny name, and they loved his music and looked beyond that. Rich Brian even mentions in a random interview how rap music taught him english, and who know maybe one day it will be more common to just learn other languages casually through music like these artists have.

original idea: print with a laser jet printer onto crappy cartridge paper so the toner rubs off on fingers as you turn the pages (similar to my lookbook). i wanted to print full black onto the pages except for the text so by the end some of the fact itself would begin to dissapear into the page.

fact vs. fiction is very prominent in shark culuture. i’ve taken some of the most false well known facts about sharks and made this small publication of them (13 facts- 1 per page). to solve the problem with the laser jet toner i’ve covered the pages in black charcoal so the FALSE FACTS RUB OFF ON YOU.

if i has the resources i think that this could be a really successful concept for communicating some of the misreprestations of sharks, however the exceucution just doesn;t live up to what i need it to be.

Boudica

I worked on this for five months in artschool. Just in time for the end-of-year exhibition and graduation. This is a statue you can find on the Westminster bridge in London. The theme this year was "roots" so i interpreted it as lineage or ancestry and culuture wise. We belgians were Gauls, and Gauls were celts, therefore i wanted to draw something or someone celtic. Boudica's story has been in the back of my mind for a while and i find it very inspiring.
