Day 16 of 182
Today was good 👍🏾 though I spent a bit too much but will do better next time. Went with my spouse to get fitted for a new shirt 👔 but unfortunately the person they wanted to see wasn’t available but it was a nice place. Shirts, pants, and more for men tailored to fit. It’s a hole in the wall on 5th ave you wouldn’t have even known it was there.
I had some coffee at a cute little place called sip & co. and practiced watching myself on camera and recording. We got there at a good time and got great seats.
Went to Saks for a tiny restroom break then went to eat at a place called “Le Botaniste”. It’s fully vegan and delicious plus they serve wine it’s also a cute hole in the wall with lots of plants. The best part was overhearing somebodies drama through osmosis about Johnny Depp, Amber Heard & a slew of other celebrities. Funny how loose lips are over alcoholic beverages and vegan food.
Then we went home, I got a clean bill of health from my 🐱doctor, another job opportunity and another opportunity to add another project to my portfolio. All in all not a bad day. Tomorrow I need to grab some last moment groceries.

Wednesday, July 26.
Therapy for Black Girls 💇🏿‍♀️👩🏾 👩🏽 👩🏿‍🦱 👧🏾
It's Minority Mental Health Month. Did you know? Well, if not, you do now. You can thank us later, as we've got something special, and a little date for your diaries. That date being today, July 26, as it happens.
It's good to talk, let's face it. Life is tough, to say the least, and someone to talk to can sometimes make all the difference to your mental health; particularly when that person knows just what it is you are talking about. Life can be difficult, we all live with trauma, and your mind can inflict noise and distress each day. Fortunately, however, there is sisterhood and fortunately, there is community. So on that basis, we thought we would celebrate with, well, a talk. A talk more specifically on the transformative power of sisterhood and community, and an exploration of the ways Black women connect and grow together.
Join award-winning psychologist, Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, and Dr. Lakeysha (Key) Hallmon for a conversation on the transformative power of sisterhood and its importance in community healing, in celebration of Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. Make sure don't miss it by securing your place here. There is quite literally nothing to lose, after all, as this is a free event, live streamed right here on Tumblr. That's still not all; we thought we'd celebrate with a few community postings on the evergreen, ever-essential subject of #therapy.
See you at 7pm sharp, folks x

"I want to die!"
Theres a arabic saying that goes "You want to die? Then throw yourself into the sea and you'll see yourself fighting to survive. You do not want to kill yourself, rather you want to kill something inside of you." And I think many people should try to think like that

Have I stated how much I hate the whole "Strong Black Woman" archetype and how much it's hurt me as a disabled person? I could go on for hours about how much this has such a detrimental effect on disabled black people. (And honestly just any in general who doesn't fit inside the mold.) But honestly, I'm just too tired of being forced into a role that I can't fill. It's taxing for me both physically and mentally. I wish more people would just understand that I can't do it.

Today’s world is a difficult one. It is becoming evermore digital and can be all the lonelier for it. And with it can come anxiety in abundance. But we have someone who we think might be able to help: Jasmine Marie, CEO and Founder of black girls breathing®, who is here to explore the many big questions in this strange new world.
We will be partnering with @blackgirlsbreathing, a safe space for Black women and girls to manage their mental health and reflect on and heal their trauma through breathwork and community. They aim to offer free and accessible mental health resources to one million Black women and girls by 2025.
COVID-19 harmed us in more ways than one, and some more than others. It widened the gap of accessible mental health resources available to Black and Brown communities at the same time many in these same groups were experiencing isolation, compacted grief, and depression. Jasmine’s work is focused on providing preventative tools to combat a taxed nervous system, and black girls breathing® is here to provide free and accessible mental health resources to Black women and girls by offering not just breathwork, but a community. So if you’re a Black woman or girl, take the pledge to take one action to better your mental health by grabbing your free mental health toolkit and signing up here. And don't forget to ask her a question, and join us back here on March 27th to see her answers.
Want to learn more about @blackgirlsbreathing?
Check out their website!

10 Things To Remember if You're Chronically Overwhelmed
Tumblr media
Feeling chronically overwhelmed may be a trauma response. Trauma activates the flight or fight response in our bodies. This activation engages the sympathetic nervous system. Sympathetic nervous system activation releases stress hormones like cortisol and epinephrine. In the presence of danger, these hormones help us survive. When danger is not present, these hormones can cause you to feel overwhelmed and can lead to physical symptoms of stress to include increased heart rate, sweating and digestive issues. After experiencing trauma, it is possible that your sympathetic nervous system may be hyperactivated. This hyperactivation may culminate in chronically feeling stressed, on edge, hypervigilant, jumpy or on guard. It may be difficult to relax. The good news is that you can reset a hyperactivated nervous system through trauma healing.
