Woman of Color
By Latonya Yvette
It's been a long time since I've read a physical book to completion that I actually enjoyed page for page. "Woman of Color" was refreshing and kept me glued word for word. Latonya discusses what she's learned about motherhood, sisterhood, beauty, loss & resilience. The whole book is literally like sitting with your girls and talking about life and its changes/seasons.
My favorite parts revolved around style and beauty and most surprisingly motherhood and the transition into it. I also loved the interviews Latonya does with the black women in her life learning about their perspectives on beauty, style, loss, and so much more.
The interview excerpt that stuck out to me most was "Joy is your birthright. And anything that keeps you away from your joy is binding you from freedom" We have the choice to make our lives what we wish, we can enjoy our lives as we see fit, and we don't have to carry anyone's emotional baggage.. it's not ours to carry.

Day 8 of 182
Okay so today was so so. I went to my appointment today and I may have a UTI. Never had one of those before in all my years. So right now, I’m heavy on the water, tea, cranberry juice and pain meds until I get my results.
I struggled a bit with my slides again. I have another doctors appointment at 10 so it’ll be an early day tomorrow.
For dinner tonight I had a Mac and green bowl with chicken tenders. I should of taken photos. But I I did have an ice cream w cranberries and sunflower seeds yesterday night. It was amazing so I’ll share that.
I did a short video that I’ll edit for TikTok on this graphic design book that’s been super helpful and I’m definitely going to buy it. Design wise especially since I want to do digital illustration on the side it will be helpful if I want to expand beyond portraits and illustrative scenes.
My other blog @loungelaughlove got 67 notes on a few of my inspirational posts. So I got a jump of engagement there which is great because one of the tags gave an air of how helpful the words were. I love seeing that my words/content actually helps or uplifts women. It warms my heart in a way I can’t describe.
Tomorrow I have to return some books to the library and put away some items I have at home. I may let my hair out this weekend and then twist it back up Sunday.
I skimmed through some books , Hebrew for dummies, “you grow gurl” by Christopher Griffin, the gut loving cook book by Alana & Lisa Macfarlane, & drawing for artist by Steven Huston.
Hebrew for dummies I know I’m not going to get that in one go. My spouse speaks Hebrew fluently but there’s a difference when you grow up speaking and reading a language vs teaching it. So for conversational stuff they will be helpful. They already got me at the counting. It’s a bit difficult for me because I have to memorize the symbols. It’s not like German where I see the word and it looks like how it sounds. Put a sentence in German in front of me I’ll get most the pronunciation right but Hebrew I haven’t even scratched the surface. Let’s see how it goes 🙆🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️. I’ll see how much I can suck out the book before I return it to library.
You grow girl has shown me a few thangs. So I’m happy with that read. I’ll probably do a more in depth review later. If you’re a plant newbie or plant lover it’s great book to learn where to start.
The gut loving cook book is 😎. I found a few recipes and learned how to make overnight oats. It was interesting and I didn’t have to take time to cook breakfast 🙆🏾♀️
Drawing for artist I just didn’t have the time to sit and draw but it has a lot of info on anatomy. I’ll probably take it out again when I organize my time better.
So I think that’s it. My hands are sweaty and I’m done make the post. So until tomorrow!
