"I guess I know my answer. I'll come and get my stuff tomorrow"
8 Months Later…
"The club on Bavwe Street?" Okoye asked Ayo, as the two got ready for training.
"Yes, Okoye. It's the closest one to us." Ayo smiled at her friend, excited about her idea to take her and a few other Dora Milaje to the nightclub that stood on Bavwe Street in Central City.
"It's also the most packed." Okoye retorted.
"Not at 2 in the morning. Most people are gone by then." Aayo raised an eyebrow in a suggestive manner.
"You want us to go to the club at 2 in the morning?"
"Yes."
Okoye groaned, wanting to throw a tantrum similar to a toddler. She didn't want to go to the club at even a regular hour, but the time the Ayo was suggesting was completely out of the question.
When she had suggested that the Dora Milaje take the night to have fun not working, she was sure that Ayo and the others would suggest a nice get together at someone's house and have a calming night.
Instead, everyone decided on the club. Something that Okoye despised.
She tried to sway the votes over the course of the week but the jury still came down to the dreaded nightclub.
She wanted to cancel, but she knew that Ayo would come storming into her house to drag her there if she had to.
Ayo looked at her expression. She put her arm on her friend's shoulder and let out a sigh.
"Okoye. 8 months. It's been 8 months now."
"I know. It's just…" Okoye paused, thinking.
"I wish I could show her that I've changed."
"She's still alive, Okoye."
"I'm probably dead to her." Okoye said.
"That doesn't mean that you should be dead to the rest of the world too. If it's meant to be, it will happen, but for the time being you need to get out of the palace for at least the night."
Another groan came from Okoye. "If I must."
"But I'm not going to go there at 2 in the morning."
Ayo shook her head in a mischievous way, laughing.
Tumblr media
"You did it!" Anze lifted you up from the ground, turning in circles as the rest of your friends yelled in celebration.
After 8 months, you had finished your training successfully and been offered a job as a permanent teacher at the school of your dreams.
You'd received the news in the morning, and decided to gather your friends to your house to share it.
"Thank you, but put me down. I'm getting dizzy." You said through laughter.
You shared their excitement, knowing just how hard you had worked for the opportunity. The tireless hours of studying and work, mixed with getting over your heartbreak were finally worth it.
"We're so proud of you, Y/n." Omi said, as the rest of the group hummed in agreement.
Gemy, one of your childhood friends let out a gasp. "We need to go out. To celebrate."
"Yes!-" You all said in unison.
"Where were you thinking?" You asked.
Anze slipped back into the conversation, having put you down and gone to get herself a drink. You eyed her down, considering how early it was for her to be ingesting alcohol.
Granted, it was wine, and she didn't have to work for the next few weeks because schools were closed for break.
"Well, I heard that Club Ncwana is great." She winked,"And is open until the morning."
"Ohh." Your eyes went wide. Whenever a club was open at night and in the morning, it really just meant that people who could stay sane for the whole night were given free drinks before they closed.
You weren't particularly tight on money, but who didn't love saving money.
"I'll reserve a table and we'll plan something really cute for you,  Y/n." Omi offered. You hesitated.
"No, don't do that. It's such short notice and you still have work tomorrow and I just do-"
"-Y/n, we're doing it. You need to celebrate yourself for once."
With a sigh, you brought the girls into a group hug, feeling the tension that had been building for almost a year finally start to release itself.
"Okay. You can do it, just make it small. I don't need the whole world knowing."
They all nodded at you, but you already knew that they were going to spend the day planning something that took up much more space than one table.
Tumblr media
15 hours later…
Okoye and the rest of the Dora Milaje walked in clusters approaching Club Ncwana, most of them holding on to their significant others.
Okoye rolled her eyes as she watched Ayo and Aneka attached to the hip as they walked, whispering together.
She was in a whole group of people, with some who shared her same status of singularity, and still she felt like a third wheel.
Naleah, one of the singles, walked closer to Okoye, who got visibly annoyed as the club came into view.
"You don't look too pleased, General." She spoke formally, regardless of the outside setting.
"Well, it wasn't exactly my first choice to be going here tonight."
Naleah nodded, knowing the feeling. She had been one of the few Dora to vote against the club. She wasn't like Okoye, still recovering from a heartbreak. She was just extremely introverted and wasn't fond of social interactions. Even at work, she didn't take much part in needless conversations; focusing only on her job.
"I heard it's your first outing in a while." Naleah whispered to Okoye, as though she were sharing a deep secret.
"Why are you whispering?" Okoye responded, only to realise that she had subconsciously changed her volume and was also whispering.
Naleah shrugged nervously, "I reckoned you didn't want people to know about that, considering the reason for it."
Okoye nodded once in understanding, " Oh…" She emphasised the word more than necessary.
"Well if you know that then I suppose you already know why?"
The older woman nodded at Okoye, gaining a sheepish head nod in response.
Okoye decided to speed up, seeing as her business had been spreading secretly for Bast knew how long. Naleah quickly caught up to her, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Okoye wait. I didn't mean it like that. I just wanted you to know that I get why you wouldn't want to be out here today after everything else happened." Naleah said, making Okoye turn to look at her.
"It's hard, yes." She replied, but left it at that.
As soon as they were inside the building, Okoye could tell that there were a lot more people than Ayo had described.
It was supposed to be quiet at that ridiculous hour, but instead it looked more packed than on a regular night.
Okoye was quick to send Ayo a glare, while Ayo received it with a shrug and continued on with Aneka.
Okoye swore to herself, looking around for a corner where she could conveniently hide for the night until everyone agreed that she could leave.
Seemingly she struck luck as a huge table covered a nice corner on the left side, far away from the major activity.
Okoye wasn't interested in getting drinks, or even just getting out for some fresh air. She wanted to go back to the home that she had sheltered herself in for 8 months.
Yes, it was lonely there, and it was only a constant reminder of you and every mistake she had made in your relationship, but it was still home to her.
She could confront her demons alone there. The world was too big outside, and confronting those demons in public was a scary feat for most of the heartbroken.
As she approached the corner, she saw a few people approaching the packed but magnificently built table setup.
She stopped in her tracks when a voice called for her.
"Okoye?" She heard.
'Please be a dream.' Okoye thought as she took a deep sigh.
'Or a really bad nightmare. Anything but reality.'
" Okoye!" the voice came again. It was sweet, so she knew that you- if the voice was truly yours- were not angry.
She slowly turned to see the exact person she had suspected.
You were the star of the night by far. Your fashion and beauty surpassing everybody in the room. You looked like royalty in Okoye's eyes. And she had to refrain from telling you that.
"Y/n…" She muttered. Her throat felt dry, although she had regularly hydrated that day. Your presence sucked all moisture out of her.
Her skin felt dry. Her clothes seemed to only make her skin feel dryer. And her eyes were dry, unlike the last time you'd seen each other.
The only exception to her dry body were her clammy hands, that rubbed against each other, not having anything to do.
Okoye thought to offer a handshake, not sure if a hug was appropriate. She chose against both in the end, seeing as a sweaty hand would be no more appropriate than a hug.
You shifted in a similar way, your happy mood being temporarily halted during the unexpected encounter.
"Y/N! Come here!" Came Anze's voice as the two of you stared at each other. You snapped out of your trance, waving at Okoye slightly.
"I'll be in that table- Or at that table rather. I'll be AT that table." You stammered through, pointing at the table that hosted your friends, not sure why you even told her. You weren't really interested in seeing her.
"I'll be in that corner." Okoye said, pointing at the corner that had previously been the night's plans.
She watched you walk away. The confidence that you exuded was something she had never seen from you before. It was something she had never tried to help you attain.
The demons were arriving quicker than expected, and regret ran through her.
Finding the corner and sitting just as a group dance came on, she used most of the people being on the dance floor as an opportunity to give herself a bit of a break.
The break was nearly 2 minutes long when yet another voice came above the loud music.
"Okoye?" Ayo called out, spotting Okoye in the corner and quickly approaching her to get her to join in on the dancing.
"Sister, what are you doing? You're supposed to be enjoying yourself."
"I can't really do that in a crowd full of people. People that also include me ex." Okoye retorted.
"Y/n's here?" Ayo asked, not having seen you. Okoye nodded, looking down as she did so.
Ayo sat down next to Okoye, "You should speak with her."
"Ha- very funny." Okoye laughed as she looked at Ayo in disbelief.
"I'm serious, sister. You finally have an opportunity to get the burdens you have carried off of your chest. I can help you get some time alone. But you need to talk to her."
Okoye shook her head, "I'm not going to do that." She sighed, defeated about her decision but relieved to know that you were doing well.
Ayo crossed her arms, not pleased. Luckily, her mind was quick. An almost nonexistent smirk appeared on her face for a split second as her mind carried out her plan before she could think it through.
"Fine. If you're not going to have fun, then we can go. Let me grab Aneka while you meet me outside."
Okoye sighed, getting up and going to the back exit of the building.
Opening the door, she felt the cool air hit her face as the Midnight to Morning sky transitioned. She hadn't realised how long they had really been in there for. It must have been close to sunrise. She could see small traces of orange in the sky.
They had probably been in there for 2 hours. Although it had only really felt like 30 very miserable minutes.
Okoye looked around, seeing the surrounding buildings in Bavwe Street.
She walked right next to the door leaning on the edge of a pipe in the wall. It was nicer for her head to be in a quiet environment. Less thoughts.
After what felt like a normal 20 minutes, Okoye started to suspect that something was off.
Just as her brain started to rack, the door opened.
Out you walked, now holding a jacket that you promptly put on after closing the door.
You turned around, looking around and in no time your eye caught hers.
"Okoye…"
Okoye stood up slightly, her body going hot and dry again, "I was waiting for Ayo. I'm going to go soon."
A smile broke between your lips and you couldn't help but let out a chuckle. The General eyed you, not sure if you were having a moment that she wasn't supposed to see.
"Okoye, I think we have both been played. Ayo told me she needed to see me outside for official business." You said.
The realisation set in slowly for her, but once she realised, a smile also briefly spread across her face.
For the General, she was surprised that Ayo had so effortlessly lied and set her up. She was so consumed with her thoughts, she didn't realise how blatant Ayo's actions had been.
The two of you made eye contact, and soon you broke into a fit of laughter, both releasing nerves and laughing at the situation.
When the laughs dwindled, and the atmosphere had once again become awkward, you cleared your thoughts.
"Should we talk?" You asked directly.
"Talk about what?"
"Us." You stated.
Although Okoye desperately wanted to talk, she needed some relief first.
"Before we do that, can we at least catch up with one another? Go for a walk."
You nodded, letting her get up properly to lead the way.
Tumblr media
2 Hours Later…
"So she convinced you to go here against your will." You laughed as Okoye told you about how Ayo got the Dora to vote for the club. She nodded, smiling at how amazed you were.
She had updated you on her General endeavours and the Dora's latest missions.
"Why were you there then?" She asked, trying to get some information out of you. You hadn't given her much of an update to what you had spent the last 8 months doing.
You hesitated, walking slower as you approached a bench to sit at.
"We went out to celebrate me getting the teaching job." You smiled as you said the words, pride coming through as you saw Okoye's eyes widen.
"You got the job?!" She yelled.
You nodded, forcing her to sit down with you to keep her quieter.
"I got the news yesterday, so we thought it would be good to celebrate."
Again you hesitated, keeping quiet for some time.
"I didn't leave my house much when we broke up." You stated. She nodded, understanding. It wasn't her time to speak, even if she wanted to.
You tried to keep your eyes dry, needing to express yourself without tears.
You had shed far too many tears in the first 4 months.
"You really hurt me, Okoye. I had never felt that disregarded in a relationship before." Okoye took it in, not shedding a tear, much to your surprise.
"It takes a lot more to love yourself when someone that's supposed to love you acts like you're hard to love." You continued.
You saw the guilt working up in her, and you were relieved that that was all you had to say.
Okoye didn't speak until she was sure that you were finished. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes to compose herself for a few seconds.
"Y/n…I'm sorry for not making it easy for you to achieve your dreams. You were right. I was being selfish." She took one of your hands. "I  know that I can't change what happened, but I am really sorry."
You nodded, not saying anything, only hearing her again.
You smiled at her, letting her take your other hand, as you leaned into her shoulder, watching the sky.
Dawn had broken, and the sun slowly lifted from its hidden state.
The air became only slightly warmer, and the streets were still empty.
"I'm better now, Y/n." Okoye started suddenly. You lifted your head from her shoulder, knowing where the conversation was going. Already you shook your head.
"Just give me one more chance and I'll show you." You looked away from her, knowing better than to get trapped into her trance again.
"I can't."
"Please, Y/n. Just one chance. If it doesn't work, and you think I haven't changed then we can be done forever, and I won't ever bother you again." She pleaded.
You sighed, thinking it all through.
"You have one more chance. If you mess it up, I'm gone" You said finally.
She nodded,  accepting the harsh conditions. She was going to show you how hard she had worked to change for the better.
Her heart was also still hesitant, but she was willing to risk it, because she loved you.
Tumblr media
4 Years Later...
You welcomed your students into the class for the morning, greeting them individually, while also sharing light conversation with them all.
You'd been teaching at your school for 4 years, and you fell more in love with teaching every year.
You taught many of the subjects required for kids to take, which meant that you got to teach a lot.
Your 9 year old students made their way in, chatting happily before you were to start teaching.
As everyone got settled a student of yours, Jorueh, put his hand up.
"Yes, Jorueh."
"Mrs. Y/L/N, when did you get that ring?" He asked, pointing at your wedding ring.
"I got it a few years ago, At my wedding."
As soon as you said this, a stream of other unnecessary questions came up, mostly about what the day was like. You shut most of them down, having answered them before. You knew your students well enough to know that they were stalling.
"Okay, can we please focus on the work at hand?" You instructed.
Just then another hand popped up. You sighed.
"Yes?"
"General Okoye is outside Miss."
You turned to look outside, only to see that your wife was indeed outside.
You situated your class, before going out to see what your wife was doing at your workplace.
"My love. What are you doing here?" You kissed her as you got to her.
She responded accordingly, kissing you back.
"You forgot these at home." She said, handing you a stack of papers. You mentally praised Bast for having sent Okoye to give them to you. You had completely forgotten about them and they were crucial for your lessons.
You kissed her again, "Thank you, my love."
"No need to thank me, Sthandwa sam."
You smiled at that. 5 years before,  that would have been a trick that Okoye used to get out of seeing you later on in the day. Now, she had completely changed. She was actually just being sweet and considerate.
"Really, thank you, Sthandwa." You said again.
You wanted to stay in that position for a while, just admiring the beauty that was your wife, but you both had work.
"I'll be here after work." She promised, sneaking in one last kiss.
"I see you, and I love you." She said, smiling before turning to leave. You laughed, hearing her resight her vows to you.
"I see you, and I love you, my love." You replied.
She went to leave for the palace, and you stood in a wondrous state.
As you went back into your class to hear the ruckus that the children had been making, you smiled.
She saw you now.

Okay, okay, I don’t want to be the one person focusing on the white people in Black Panther Wakanda Forever but
Val’s response when Ross goes “could you imagine how destructive it would be if a place like America got its hands on Vibranium weapons of mass destruction?” and she gives the most sadistic, nonchalant laugh and goes “I literally dream about it.”
That one interaction is a stunning display of what American militaristic nationalism, capitalism, and neocolonialism looks like and how white people in places of power such as the FBI or the CIA have always been about stealing away the resources and stability of BIPOC.
Shout out to Julia Louis-Dreyfus for that delivery; it is absolutely vile and she should get props for it.

One thing I like about MCU Shuri and also think several people sorely get wrong is that she's the more cool-headed character. She is slower to shout, panic, and anger, being relatively more laidback. Shuri would rather wall up and bury herself in her lab (M'Baku confirms this at Ramonda's funeral, and we see her doing just that in the beginning) before lashing out.
Even Ryan described how T'Challa was more hotheaded to T'Chaka's diplomat, while Shuri was the more cool and laid back one to fiery Ramonda.
We see it in her clothing styles.
We see this in the way she initially approaches things. Two key instances:
The way she first responds and confronts Namor. Shuri is still on defense at the river, but she is less combative or reactive compared to Ramonda. Shuri more quietly assesses and responds to him. Compare this to Ramonda, who immediately fires back and disregards what he says without even checking if it could possibly be true, to which Shuri has to point out some truths by empirical evidence (i.e., Ramonda dismissed him saying only they had vibranium, Shuri gently nudges her, saying he's covered in it, so that cannot be the case). A similar thing happens when she is down in Talokan with Namor. Throughout it all, Shuri kept a leveled head and bit back her tongue to think of solutions, even when things started turning south. She knew how to shut up as well rather than argue him down more (something not many people know how to do).
The way Shuri tried to extract Riri compared to Okoye. For starters, Shuri did not break into bathrooms or bring spears in Riri's dorm - she blended in and used the door. She did not make threats and give an ultimatum either. Shuri just tried to explain the urgency to Riri and draw her out without the use of physical force.
We also see it in her reactions with other characters.
In the first movie, she tells T'Challa to "calm down" when he shouts at her to drive. We also see her not care to fight T'Challa for the mantle, even if it is her birthright (she just wanted to go home and get out of a particularly uncomfortable corset). Instead, she prefers to fight alongside and as support.
Black Panther: "The Black Panther lives. And when he fights for the fate of Wakanda, I will be right there beside him."
Black Panther 2: "I was not trying to save the mantle mother, I was trying to save my brother."
For another example regarding her interactions with characters from Wakanda Forever, Riri is consistently depicted to be the more anxious and is more inclined to lose composure. Shuri, even when she's stressed or overwhelmed too, is often the one to remain composed. Shuri attempts to calm Riri down so she doesn't have a panic attack. Shuri also didn't reply when Riri started snapping at her about the FBI, only calmly working about and mapping out an escape plan.
One last particular example is with Okoye. Shuri is less quick to be defensive or shout compared to Okoye. We see it in the way Okoye commanded her to get in the car, and rather than shout back, she simply uttered quietly, "Why are you shouting at me..." Shuri didn't reply to Riri snapping, but Okoye did not let anything slide, pointing the finger back to her. During this entire exchange, Shuri was quietly observing before cutting in, saying how they needed to work together to get out of their situation.
Black Panther Wakanda Forever was her later in-character out-of-character. In other words, that unrivaled anger and snapping you saw was never her baseline. She's not an angry or vengeful person. That was the point of Ramonda, "Show him who you are," when she was hesitating killing Namor.
It was the result of her character at a breaking point. Shuri was not coping properly and dealing with frustrations she couldn't see her way out of. Shuri was struggling with spirituality. She was trying to know if her family was truly still there. She was trying to find the reason behind her failure and loss. Shuri already began cracking since T'Chaka died (see: Wakanda Files). T'Challa's death just broke her, with her narrowly holding her pieces together.

Second Chance
Tumblr media
K'uk'ulkan x Reader
How do you hide a pregnancy from a god?
How do you hide a child from their father?
But most of all, how do you tell him?
When you refused to participate in the fight against Wakanda, he made you leave, exiled you from your home and told you that if you ever enter the ocean he would be there to kill you. He would show you no mercy.
He didn't know back then, but you were with child. It was the reason you refused to fight. It was your first ever child, finally, your gods gifted you a child after being married to your husband for so long.
And he didn't even know.
"I will not fight against Wakanda."
"You know what that would mean, My Wife?" you looked at him, confused. "It would mean you will be no longer the Queen of Talokan, as Queen it is your duty to protect your people. You are one of the best warriors."
"I will not fight."
"Then you shall leave my castle! My cave and MY ocean! You do not deserve your title, and if you ever even touch the water, I'll be there to kill you, and do not think that because of our past, I'd show mercy! You betrayed your people! You betrayed me!"
Back then, it was s suspicion of yours. Unable to confirm it with your healers before he sent you away. His eyes filled with hatred and anger.
It wasn't the man you married, the man you loved. This was Namor.
And now, here you were, living in Wakanda as the new Queen was willing to have you in her home. She confirmed your suspicion after the fight, you were indeed with child.
This was all months ago. And now, into your fifth month, you finally felt ready to face the man who broke your heart.
Wearing a light gown but a robe on top of it, hiding your child from their father as you touched the water.
For the last months, you never once entered the waters. Only staying in a tub of water to relieve your thirst as you could live longer without water.
As soon as you touched the water, you knew. He was on his way. You hoped he was calm, you hoped he had time to think. You just stood there, waiting in the knee-deep water.
Couple of moments later, you saw him emerge, with his spear in his hands. Damn him and how amazing he looked. Damn him and how much you loved him. He spoke in your native tongue.
"I told you to never enter the waters again! It was my warning. I will not hesitate to kill you just because once you were my wife."
And yet, he was hesitating.
"I came so you can meet someone." you reached for your robe when he stood in front of you, looking into your eyes, all you could see in his was anger.
"I do not wish to meet anyone. You betrayed me. You refused to fight to protect our nation."
"I had my reason."
"Your reason was that you are a coward." you untied your robe when his spear touched your skin, the sharp edge almost cutting your skin. "Don't make me kill you, leave the water." he whispered.
"I came so you can meet your child." you said as you dropped the robe, letting it fall into the water as you tugged on your dress, showing him the baby bump. "It is a girl. Shuri confirmed it. She is healthy, and often moves around as I feel her kick my ribs." you watched him, tried to read him as his eyes were glued to your belly.
"You-"
"She is the reason why I refused to fight. I suspected I was pregnant and I couldn't risk it. As much as I love the people of Talokan, we have been praying so hard for a baby." you saw him tumble, almost falling to his knees as you started to take steps backwards. He followed you, never once taking his eyes off.
"My Love..."
"Your hate consumed you, Namor. Your hate pushed me away. If you continue with this, you will lose her as well."
"You would take my child from me?"
"Your actions would take her from you."
"How far along are you?"
"I'm almost six months." he finally fell, landing in the water he looked at you with pleading eyes. No more anger.
"My Love, I'm so so sorry. I know an apology wouldn't be enough to make up for my mistake."
"Apologise to your daughter. You know very well, I am a fool who would forgive you even if you kill me. I love you too much." you moved to sit down in front of him in the sand. Letting his arms go around you as he hugged you close, one of his palms on your bump as you felt your baby move.
"My Little One, I deeply apologise for being so harsh. My hatred truly blinded me. I hope one day you will be able to forgive me as well. Your mother is too good for me." he placed a kiss on your belly, right over your thin dress. "Return home My Love. I truly believe I don't deserve a second chance. But I wish to make everything right. I want my daughter to be born where I can be present."
"I wish to go back, but if this happens again, I-"
"It will not. I promise." and now you saw in his eyes, hope, love and determination.

Just for a Few Minutes
Shuri x POC reader
Summary: In the midst of a mission, you and Shuri get stranded in space. Months later of failing to get back home, you catch her crying and try to make her feel better.
or
Reader is a touch-starved pathetic loser who Shuri takes an interest in.
Contains: Angst, hurt/comfort, shy reader, smut (18+), and a sprinkle of fluff.
Word count: 2750
Tumblr media
Shuri’s been stuck at the wheel, stressing on getting back home. She hates this ship, if you can even call it that. It’s old and rusty. You’re surprised the ship hasn’t blown up yet.
You got used to the grumbling and shouting. It’s the same pattern over and over again, and it always ends with a dent in the metal wall or absolute silence: Shuri cheers, believing she’s tracked Earth’s location, then shouts profanities that you don’t understand when the janky ship randomly reroutes the coordinates.
All day Shuri sits in the cockpit, determined she’ll beat the ship at its ridiculous game, and you watch with crossed fingers each time. You often try to lend a hand, although she’s not very fun to work with when she’s angry.
And when she’s not angry, she cries. But only when she thinks you’re asleep. You’ll lay on your bed, back facing the rest of the ship, and glue your eyes on the wall, unable to sleep while she stifles her sobs either in the bathroom or her bed.
Unlike Shuri, you didn’t have anyone to lose. Your teammates would tease you—call you a lone wolf. Unfortunately, they’re not wrong.
Today, you hear the same quiet sniffling.
You lay there, hesitant to move so she doesn’t know you’re listening. Or trying not to listen. But it’s hard not to when you’re a light sleeper.
The benefit of being a light sleeper? No one can sneak up on you.
The setback? Waking up to the only person you see every day cry almost every night.
However this night—or day, who knows really—is different. She doesn’t lay in the bed across from yours. Instead she sits in the cockpit, elbows on her lap and face buried in her hands.
Shuri’s body jumps when she hears the soft pads of your feet make their way over to her, but she doesn’t look at you. Maybe that’s for the best considering you have no idea what draws you to take the co-pilot’s seat.
You’re unsure what to do. You rarely find yourself in a situation where you have to comfort someone, much less yourself.
Looking straight ahead at the stars and distant galaxies, you speak.
“I don’t miss anyone.” Wow. You’re already terrible at this.
Nonetheless, Shuri’s faintly head lifts, curious to hear where you’re going next.
You gulp, hoping you only say the right words.
“I mean, like, I don’t have anyone to, like, you know, miss. And there’s no one on Earth who’s, you know, missing me right now. Or looking for me for that matter. But I know that there are people searching for you.”
Shuri also looks ahead. “We’re galaxies away,” she states hopelessly.
“Which is probably why they’re taking so long,” you jokingly reply in an attempt to seem sensible.
You turn to Shuri, and the glint of hope that used to live in her eyes has gone, replaced with exhaustion.
“They’ll travel through those galaxies,” you hope to reassure her. “They will.”
You don’t even know if you believe that, though it doesn’t matter if you do or not as long as she believes it.
For a minute, no one makes a sound before Shuri starts to whimper again.
An inaudible “woah” comes out of your mouth when you watch her conceal her face back in her hands. Mentally, you’re unsure how to react, which is ironic because your body somehow does: your bottom lifts off the seat and your arms make their way around the princess.
That’s what you do to make people feel better, right?
Her body stiffens and you scold yourself for being so hasty. You attempt to pull away and apologize before she snakes her arms around you, burying her head between your shoulder and neck. You stay there for a while, your knees on the hard floor as she soaks your shirt.
You don’t say anything and she doesn’t need anything to be said. Silence is just fine.
You’re not used to offering affection, not even a simple hug. Its unfamiliarity makes you a little uncomfortable but you stay. She's the one who pulls away eventually.
“Tired,” she says plainly.
You get on your feet and back up while she stands. The space between you and Shuri returns, mostly because of you. For you, really.
You attempt to shake off the odd feeling on your skin and in your chest as Shuri sits on her bed. She doesn’t tuck herself in though. She just looks at you.
You hate to say that the face she’s wearing seems familiar. It’s a face you’ve ignored on Earth. A face that wants something from you, but you don’t know what. Or you pretend you don’t know.
This time it’s different. You can sense what she wants, and like all the times before, you choose to ignore it, muttering a “goodnight” as you hurriedly walk to your bed.
“Wait.”
There’s no thought to it when your body halts. However, the anticipation flusters you.
It takes a second after you point your ear to her. You hear a heavy exhale leave her nose.
“Can you…lie down with me?”
If you heard this on Earth, you’d simply tell her to go to sleep. At the moment you consider not even facing her again, but you regrettably turn your shoulder. And damn. There’s that face again–the inner corners of her eyebrows softly angled upward.
“Just for a few minutes,” she adds.
Her eyes slowly glide away as she recognizes what she just requested. She wonders why she even asked you such a thing. She starts to shake her head, nearly retracting what she said.
“Sure,” you say. This is probably a mistake.
Your answer obviously surprises her. You don’t have that type of relationship to even lay together, let alone make any physical contact that wasn’t a pat on the shoulder.
You take up the little space left after Shuri scooches. She faces the wall and you lay on your back, unable to move freely. Even your leg hangs off the edge.
But you still can’t seem to shake off that feeling.
It feels strange. Sort of awkward. But something about it also feels…nice, you think. You’ve never done this with someone. The thought of it was too foreign to even consider.
The version of you before would have cringed at the possibility of this happening. But this version of you–the one who has spent months stranded in space, building whatever connection you have with Shuri–doesn’t mind her back pressed against your arm. This version of you doesn’t mind how warm she feels next to you despite the spacecraft’s low temperatures.
You stare at the back of her head contemplating whether or not you should throw your arm over her waist. To comfort her, of course.
No, probably not.
Facing the ceiling again, you wait for Shuri to fall asleep until you hear sniffling again. You can’t solve sorrow with one conversation, can you?
“Shuri?” You whisper. She doesn’t respond. You turn over and place your hand on her bicep. “Shuri,” you try again.
You pull at her with no force and she rolls on her back, wiping her cheek.
“Sorry,” she murmurs sheepishly.
“No, no,” you reach for her face. “It’s alright.”
She gives you full access, staring at you when you begin rubbing away as many tears as you can. You hit a point where her face is mostly dried up, but you don’t remove your hand. You both lay on your sides and you just keep cleaning.
Shuri reaches for your cheek, dragging the back of her hand up and down, mimicking your touch. Your eyes flutter shut, welcoming the new sensation.
She whispers your name.
You open your eyes. “What?”
God, that face.
“I’m gonna kiss you.”
Your hand pauses on her cheek. “Okay.”
She grabs your neck, pressing her lips to yours. And it feels…really good. Her lips are soft, but dry. She observes the same for your lips, but none of you actually mind.
Oh man, is this what you’ve deprived yourself of all this time? You can’t get enough of this. You can’t get enough of her, especially when she tilts her head, kissing you deeper. She eagerly pushes you on your back and gets on top of you, hungrily molding herself against you.
A moan escapes the back of your throat when her lips move to your jaw, trailing down. Her lips tingle down your neck, particularly when she rests there to mark your skin.
You enjoy this feeling. The overwhelming state you’ve never allowed yourself to enter before.
Shuri lifts the hem of your shirt, snaking her hand under your pants. Your thighs instinctively open as she cups your pussy and your breath hitches when her thumb begins circling your clit.
Jesus, you’re sensitive. You’ve touched yourself here and there, but it never felt like this.
You choose to look down and your arousal grows just by the disappearance of her hand beneath your clothing. She slides her middle finger between your folds and you dismiss her chuckles when she recognizes how incredibly wet you are. You’re too horny and touch-starved to even worry about it.
She sits up, one hand at your pussy and the other next to your head. She inserts a finger and drags it out, continuing this motion as her thumb messily rubs your bud.
“You like it when I do this?” Oh, she knows you do.
“Yeah,” you mutter after she inserts her ring finger, staring at you writhe below her.
You turn away, squeezing your eyes shut. Your arm sits on your forehead, covering your eyes, but Shuri pulls the arm away from your face.
“Keep looking at me,” she commands softly.
As piercing as her eyes are, you do as she says and she rewards you by pumping faster. Your mouth opens, your breath quickens, and your hand grips her pillow and the other flies to her bicep, seeking to hold something.
She hums, responding to your desperate whines; your wetness coating her fingers. She takes advantage of your parted mouth and consumes your lips, slipping in her tongue.
You can’t tell if it’s her fingers or her tongue that make you cum, but holy shit, who fucking cares at this point? Your body shakes and your hips lift involuntarily. And even better, Shuri continues to thrust in and out of you, gradually slowing her pace as your orgasm sends you into a disorientated state of ecstasy.
You pull away from her lips, catching your breath.
Shuri smirks. “You look pretty when you cum.”
And you’re brought back down to…well, not Earth. With a groan, you cover your face, but only for a second, too keen to see an expression that wasn’t a frown on her face.
“I bet you’d look even better,” you sit up to kiss her. “Can you lay back?”
She obeys, switching positions with you. You hope to appease her even though you don’t fully know what you’re doing.
“Tell me what to do,” you rub her knee. “I wanna make you feel good, but I don’t know where to start.”
An inquisitive look appears on her face, processing what you’ve just told her. She leans up using her elbows to support her.
“Was that your first time?”
You tilt your head side to side. “Sorta, yeah. I mean, there was this one girl a while ago, but she didn’t get…as far as you did.”
You didn’t let her get as far as Shuri did, to be specific.
“Bast,” she gapes at you. “I suppose that makes sense.”
“Please don’t make it awkward.”
She shakes her head. “I…Okay, yeah–no. I won’t.” The gears keep turning in her head to the point where she smiles to herself. “I’m your first?”
“Okay,” you murmur, shifting away from her before Shuri draws you back with your wrist.
“Don’t go,” she giggles. “That’s okay. I’ll guide you.” She pecks your lips. “I’m sorry.” She pecks your lips again. “We’ll go slow.”
You nod nervously.
“What do you wanna do, hm?” She caresses your cheek, seeing how tense you’ve become.
You peer down at her pants, shrugging. “Wanna touch you…however you want me to.”
“However?” She gives you one last kiss below your jaw before laying on her back. “Okay. Help me take this off.”
The heat kicks back in. You start removing her pants until she impatiently kicks the rest off the bed, leading you both to laugh.
“Just start by kissing me first,” Shuri reaches for your arm.
You happily oblige, enveloping her lips with yours, your body between her legs. You breathe her in—promptly addicted, that’s for sure. Your chests press together and you can feel her breasts beneath you, nipples as firm as yours.
Your hand hesitantly slides under her shirt. You stop before you reach her breast. “Is it okay if-”
“It’s okay,” she drags your hand to her breast and you gently squeeze before flicking her nipple. You successfully earn a moan from her. Fuck, you only wanna do things that’ll get a noise out of her.
You kiss her chin, her jaw, dip to her neck, then down to her clavicle, hoping to descend further. Shuri reads your mind, removing her shirt and throwing it aside. You fervently reconnect your mouth to her skin, stopping at her sternum. Her hand shoots to the back of your head when your lips slide to her breast and your tongue circles around her areola, flicking on her nipple before engulfing it. Another moan leaves her, encouraging you to suck. Your free hand plays with her other breast, flicking and tugging before gliding down to her pussy. You find her clitoris beneath her underwear, circling it between your index and middle finger.
Shuri mumbles in Xhosa as you slip off her underwear.
Your mouth releases her breast and you get up. You gaze at her body, licking your lips. You stay there, naively contemplating what you hope to do to her. She notices.
Her half-lidded eyes inspect your expression. “What do you wanna do?”
Your fingers keep playing with her as you think. You look down at them, enthralled by her body’s response to your touch. You land on something. “Wanna eat you out.”
Shuri lets out a breathy laugh. “I’m surprised you know what cunnilingus is,” she jokes.
You chuckle. “Shut up.”
You aim for her stomach, kissing your way down to her pussy. You remove your fingers from her clit, pausing once you’ve positioned your head between her legs. Your eyes lock on hers when you flatten your tongue and lick.
“Yeah,” her hand lands on the side of head, watching you intently. “Just keep doing that.”
And you do. You lick and suck her, allowing the volume of her voice to guide you. You wrap your arms around each of her thighs, getting comfortable the more she coats your mouth and chin.
“Does that feel good?” You muffle against her pussy.
“Yeah,” she grinds on your face. “Feels…feels really good.”
Shuri gasps your name and throws her head back when you sneak a finger inside her cunt, thrusting in and out. She whimpers when you add another digit, curling the pads of your fingers. She curses in her native language, sighing, “right there,” when you hit her spot and you stare, admiring her whine and whimper because of you.
You continue to suck her clit until her body shudders intensely as she approaches her climax. She wonders if you’ve switched off the ship’s gravity because her mind spaces off blissfully.
You want to see that again.
She releases a heavy sigh and lifts herself to look at you while you sit up.
“Did I do okay?” You ask.
She yanks you by your shirt and smashes her lips on yours, tasting herself.
You laugh against her mouth. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
She pulls away, but lingers with her forehead against yours. She drags her fingernails up and down your neck. “Thank you.”
And she means it. You’re both lonely already. She needed the distraction and you’re apparently much more desperate for affection than you thought you were.
Jokingly you furrow your brows anyway.
“Do people normally thank each other after sex?”
She clicks her tongue and flicks your forehead, saying your name in a scolding manner.
“Ow!” You yelp, laughing as you palm the spot she flicked.
Shuri smiles humorously, rubbing your forehead despite the lack of pain.

“Black Panther Wakanda Forever” has a supporting cast of actors and actresses, without whom the story may not have been as effective. Sure, our main leads and the secondary characters are cool and awesome, and the story is amazing, but it’s people like the ones above who play small but very important roles in the story.
Having a young boy witness the trauma of his people be subject to horrors no child should be privy to, and hold on to that fear and rage with a grip so tight it transforms into vengeance that burns within a god-king hell-bent on protecting his people… little Manuel Chavez may not have been onscreen long, but his presence very much informed the charismatic K’uk’ulkan who is both filled with rage and kindness in equal measure.
Like Manuel, Irma-Estel LaGuerre and María Mercedes Coroy may not have been onscreen much, but their portrayal of a mother who, for the sake of her unborn son, must ingest a concoction to save both her and her people from the raging fires of colonialism resonates with many. In the film, K’uk’ulkan wonders what it is like to be a people in a pristine land who never have to leave. His mother loved him, cared for him, and wished for him to bury her in the land she loved so much, even if it was being desecrated by people who most certainly did not belong there to begin with. LaGuerre and Coroy portrayed a woman who had so much love to give, yet lost so much; it is to nobody’s surprise that her son adopted the name “Namor”, itself shortened from “el niño sin amor”, the child without love.
Without Josué Maychi, there may well not have been the inclusion of the Yucatec Mayan language in the film. Maychi’s role as the shaman who was guided by a god to retrieve a plant grown in Vibranium-rich soil to heal his smallpox-afflicted people is very important to the story, as without him, Talokan is as good as nonexistent. It is thanks to the shaman that Talokan was able to thrive as we see it do in the film.
María Telón Soc portrays a Mayan elder in the film. Her role, though small, is crucial as she is one of the guiding forces who help convince K’uk’ulkan mother to ingest the herbal drink to save her and her unborn son. Like the other actors and actresses mentioned above, she may not have been onscreen for long, but her presence informs the decisions we see the other Mayan-Talokanil make.

I just read that Michael Waldron initially wanted to add Namor as a member of the Illuminati in MoM but Marvel said no because they had “other plans” for him
Having now watched Wakanda Forever let me just convey my sincere gratitude to Ryan Coogler for executing those “other plans”

Staying inside the lab, watching as Nakia shuffle around the interior, trying to get some sort of signal from Shuri's kimoyo beads. The woman insisted for you to just take care of yourself when you suggested to help, saying that she'll do everything herself.
You were starting to doze off on the counter, your eyes feeling exhausted just following around Nakias movements. Until you heard Nakia yell, surprising you.
"Nakia—? Is something wrong?" You stood up hurriedly. The wakandan woman had already jogged towards you, looking at you with such delighted relief.
"I found a signal of Shuri's kimoyo beads. I found her, (name)!" She enthusiastically yells. You gasped out, grinning widely in relief.
"Oh God, you did it!" You cheered, engulfing the woman in a tight hug. She chuckled, caressing your hair slightly.
"I've got to go now. I've got a princess and an American to save." She pulled away from the hug, smiling at you reassuringly. You nod, wiping the small tears that roll off your cheeks.
"Be safe, please." You muttered worriedly, clutching her arm when she placed an arm on your shoulder. She only gave you a reassuring smile, nodding.
She gave you one last hug before she went off, leaving you alone in the lab yet again. You stayed inside, anticipating for the return of your friend.

"This (name) person sound coooool."
Shuri and the American, Riri Williams were talking to eachother to cure their boredom while they're stuck literally in an underground cave of a literal ocean.
"She is." Shuri agrees, a fond smile on her face.
"Even when you're kidnapped, you still manage to talk about this girl like there's no tomorrow." Riri says, humming in amusement.
"Well there's alot to talk about her. She's interesting and a very supportive friend. Even my mother is very fond of her." Shuri states, shifting in her seat in a more comfortable position.
Riri squints her eyes at the girl, looking at her suspiciously with a brow raised. "Hmm.. you talk to her very fondly with a smile on your face.. you openly admit she's interesting.. your mother practically loves her as her own.. hmm.." Riri hums, humming suspiciously.
Shuri looks at her in confusion. "What? Why are you humming so much? And what's with that look on your face?" She questioned incredulously, chuckling slightly.
Riri tuts, shaking a finger at the princess. "I can't tell if you're really close. Orrr.." the girl trails off, adding Shuri with anticipation, wanting to hear what the girl wants to say.
"Or?"
"Or if you have romantic feelings with her." Riri shrugs. The princess looks at her, shocked by her words. "What—? No, that's ridiculous." She refuses the idea, shaking her head.
Riri frowned, looking disappointed. "Oh, come on. You gave her a necklace." The girl says, throwing her hands up exasperatedly.
"It's just a necklace?" Shuri hums, tilting her head to the side. Yes, she was purposely acting dumb. She's thought about her feelings for you for awhile now, but she's just in denial. It seems wrong.
What if she really does have romantic feelings for you and it's not just some bestfriend thing?
What if she admits her feelings for you? It will ruin what she haves with you. You both are already so close, confessing herself to you will probably ruin your friendship.
She didn't want to give up the friendship you both built for so long just because of her selfish feelings.
"The way your face softens just at the mere mention of her name though? You can't tell me that's just friends to you." Riri shakes her head, muttering a 'nuh-uh' as she shook her index finger side to side.
Shuri let's out a sigh, burying her face on the palm of her hands. "I don't know Riri. Sometimes I feel like I do like her." Riri applauded dramatically at that, but Shuri have her a scolding look, making the latter shut up immediately.
"There's a but, isn't there?" Riri whispered to herself, and the princess continued.
"But I feel like she doesn't feel the same way. And I don't want to make our friendship awkward when I do end up confessing and she doesn't feel the same way." Shuri revealed. The girl listened intently, nodding with a hum.
"I see. I think you should just tell her. I mean, mean there's a possibility that we're gonna go to war with ocean people, so why not just go fuck it?" The girl jokes, earning a light glare from Shuri. Riri clears her throat awkwardly, turning away from the princess' glare.
"I'm kidding. But seriously, if you truly like her, you should tell her. You've been friends for a long time now, right?" Shuri nods at her question, and Riri continues. "I'm sure she'll understand even if she doesn't feel the same. It's better to let your feelings free than keeping it hidden for a long time." Says Riri.
"And if she does like you back, boom! You scored, you can thank me if I make it out alive." Riri waved a hand dismissively, chuckling at Shuri's amused smile.
"Yeah.. I'm gonna come clean and tell her. If I get the courage to." Shuri admits, making Riri let our a cheer of enthusiasm. "Yaass, despite being abducted by ocean people, we out here talking about our love livess." Riri hummed, chuckling slightly before letting out a surprised yelp a shot rang through the air.
Shuri immediately stood up, looking around cautiously until she saw Nakia coming from behind a rock.
"No!" Shuri sprinted into action, coming in between Nakia and the Talocan woman who had been shot.
"Shuri." Nakia calls out. The princess looked at behind her, eyes wide at the wounded talocan woman. "Shuri, we have to go!" Nakia yelled, grabbing the princess' forearm.
"No– you don't understand, this'll cause a war!" The princess yells, distressed. In the midst of her distress, Shuri didn't realize she was slowly being dragged out of the scene, her eyes lingering on the wounded woman with Riri following right in suit.

You almost jumped off your seat when you saw Shuri show herself just as she stepped inside the lab. The seat flew itself backwards at your action, thudding against the white marble counters behind you.
You embraced her tightly, wrapping your arms around the top of her shoulders, your body pressing against hers as she wrapped her arms on your waist, savoring the feeling of your scent and warmth before you pulled away.
"(name)."
You sniffed when you heard your name roll off her tongue, slightly pulling away to look at her. "You fucking idiot. Why did you keep this mission from me? Did you know how worried I was?" You sniffed out, your throat tightening up when you saw her apologetic face.
"I know. I'm sorry, dearest, I should've told you." She whispers, pressing a long kiss on the side of your forheads temples as you continued to loudly sniffle with your arms around her.
Shuri unwrapped her arms from your waist, a hand coming in contact with your cheeks. She stared down at you with such intense affection and guilt, it made your head spin.
"I'm here now, okay? I'm never leaving your side ever again. I promise." She whispered, pressing her forehead against yours, listening to your sniffles quietly. You just nodded your head, unable to respond from how you were helplessly hiccuping.
Your gaze then landed on an unfamiliar black girl standing far behind Shuri, looking at the interior of the lab awkwardly, as if she was purposely trying to avoid looking at the both of you.
You let out a small chuckle, making Shuri look at you in confusion and turn to where you were looking at. Now realizing where you were looking at, she manages a small smile to form on her face.
Her hand stayed resting on your waist, slowly guiding you to the American.
"(name), this is Riri." Shuri gestured to the girl, watching as she waved at you with a tight smile. "Riri already knows who you are though so I suppose introducing you to her is useless." Shuri says. Riri waves a hand dismissively, looking at the princess blankly.
"Of course. The princess couldn't stop talking about you, (name). Even when we were in the middle of an underground cave of the ocean." Riri tells you. You looked at the princess beside you incredulously, your brows furrowed as Shuri looked at Riri as if it said 'Shut up, girl'.
"You were held captive in an underground cave of an ocean?" You questioned the princess. She turned to you, giving you a reassuring look. "We're fine now, love. I'm back home now."
"I'm not." Riri perks up, her hand raised at the princess' words. Shuri glares at her, hissing at her to stop.
"What? I just wanted to feel included." The girl shrugged innocently, trying to hide her smiles. But it was hard to when your chuckles already filled the silence, making her instantly light up a smile as well.
Riri put her hand she was raising lower, waving it as she began to walk out of the lab, confusing you.
"Well I've got to go. Princess over there still has some things to tell for her 'dearest'." Riri says, looking behind at the two of you with a playful wink. The door behind her shuts as soon as she stepped out, and you glanced at the princess with a questioning look.
"That girl can't keep things to herself, I swear." Shuri mutters.
"What was Riri talking about?" You questioned the princess straight to the point. You didn't want her to keep anymore from you again, but if Riri knows, it's probably not that serious.
Shuri looks at you reassuringly, giving you a closed tight lipped smile. "It's nothing, love. I'll tell you soon, but right now, we've got somethings to prepare for." She says, her comforting aura replacing with something more serious.
"For what?" You questioned again, but this time you were concerned.
"A war."
