Naomi Campbell: Queen of the Geminis; May 22, 1970
I’ve always been a Naomi Campbell fan. Every since I was little. She has a reputation for being mean, bitchy, crazy, rude, violent... but I have witnessed countless Black women be accused of the same characteristics, and even if I didn’t think that people overplay her negatives and harp on her flaws, I would still be impressed.
Naomi Campbell became an international name in a field that is blatantly racist and famously cutthroat. She has been a cultural icon in an industry that to this day ostracizes women with her skin tone, for as many years as she has been working, and she’s been on top of her game for pretty much my entire life.
Her defects as a person are nothing in comparison to a lot of folk with her pay grade and her popularity and in all of this time of being bitchy and unkind... she still has managed not to have any scandals beyond a few incidents that could have happened with any imperfect person.
So, I’ma stand by her. Keep shining, Queen. Happy Birthday to Naomi Campbell. THE Supermodel, and Queen of the Geminis.
