Soundwave3591 did another bio for me, my reimagined Cinder Fall
I have very unorthodox plans for her(Spolier Alert: She doesn’t become a seasonal maiden and she’s more like Black Widow.)
Hope ya’ll like Torchfall(Cinder x Roman)

Let’s Talk: Female Heroes and their costumes.
After seeing Black Widow this week, something occurred to me as I was leaving the theater and it made me smile. The difference in the costumes for both the DCEU and the MCU now that more women are getting involved.
My first example is from Birds of Prey.
Tumblr media
There is nothing inherently pulling the male gaze with these outfits. One could argue that Dinah’s is a little, but she is also still wearing her outfit from work, where she works for Roman Sionis, so that would explain the cleavage that she’s showing. But overall, most of the women in this shot are wearing flat shoes and clothes that they look comfortable in and look like they can actually fight in as well. Of course they make fun of Dinah later on for her choice in pants, but it’s more of a fun tongue-in-cheek moment more than anything else. But look at Harley’s outfit, that’s a fun outfit but there’s nothing that screams “LOOK AT MY BOOBS AND BUTT” like her outfit in Suicide Squad did. Helena is decked out in combat boots and protective vest. And of course, one of the most relatable moments in women’s comic book history happens during the big brawl:
Tumblr media
You love to see it. From the outfit choices and this scene alone, I would have known that this film was directed by a woman.
Even in Wonder Woman 1984 we saw a difference. Sure, Diana was still running around in her tiny skirt/metal bra combo, but she got the chance to put on the golden armour and while it kinda looked tacky, it was still better than the other suit in terms of getting rid of the male gaze.
Tumblr media
Practical, covering her while still looking nice. There is a slight heel on the boot but nothing too crazy, unlike her other costume. And which movie did she first wear the Iconic Wonder Woman costume? Oh that’s right, BvS, a movie directed by a man. The difference is easy to spot if you’re looking. There is nothing wrong with her costume, but you can see the difference from when a man is making the choices versus when a woman is.
Next we hop over to the MCU as we take a look at Carol’s outfit from Captain Marvel.
Tumblr media
Carol’s suit is very much like Steve’s suit, in the way that it’s very military looking. It fits her body, but so does Yon-Rogg’s and the other members of the Kree. A man did design this costume, but with input from the directors and I believe Larson herself, though I’m not sure on that. But the whole outfit screams badass practicality. There is no cleavage, no ridiculous heels. You could switch her outfit with Steve’s and it would basically be the same, and that’s a good thing.
Next is Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff.
Tumblr media
She’s been on record to say how much she disliked the first costume on the left. Olsen said that she didn’t like how revealing it was, and that it didn’t really fit her or the character. The middle one wasn’t a lot better, but at least she wasn’t showing as much cleavage. But the last costume? Olsen had a say in it and she loves it, and I think it’s the best one to date. I actually would argue it’s one of the better costumes in the whole MCU. It looks visually appealing on her and really suits the character as well. And while they’re not featured, the shoes she’s wearing are more flat in the bottoms I believe. The last costume is just a sign that if you listen to the person who has to wear it constantly and focus on making it look cool and practical rather than sexy, it ends up being more attractive anyway. I don’t know a single person who has complaints about it.
Last but certainly not least, Natasha “Black Widow” Romanoff. This is one of her costumes, coming from Age of Ultron:
Tumblr media
Zipper is super low, you can see the size of that heel from her, and it’s super form fitting. Natasha was sexualized the moment she showed up on screen in Iron Man 2 and they rolled with this look for a very long time. We saw them relaxing it a little in Endgame when she wore the comfy clothes and her socks, but overall she’s always had this look.
Tumblr media
Even here you can see how far dawn that zipper is, and even the vest is nearly wide open. But as you will soon seen, Johansson had enough of that and had a lot of say in Natasha’s clothing in the Black Widow movie. Natasha for most of that movie is wearing loose clothing or clothes that stay up near her collar bone. Also, throughout the whole movie she and Yelena wear combat boots, never once wearing those heeled shoes that Natasha wore in all the other movies. It’s a subtle enough change that it’s not changing the entire look of the character, but enough that it got me thinking “about fucking time.”
Tumblr media
Look at the zipper placement. While it may be a little low here, it’s not so low that she’s falling out of her costume. Plus there’s the added strap that hold the jacket in place. The pants are also a tiny bit looser, and so is the jacket. Just a tiny bit, but you can see the bunching and creasing from the extra fabric. ScarJo said that it was her favourite costume to date and the most comfortable to wear. And just to compare the two Infinity War Era Natasha’s:
Tumblr media
See where the zipper is on the inside jacket? The vest is open but that’s how Yelena wore it for most of the movie as well. It looks comfy and attractive, but not in the male gaze way.
As you can see from the examples above, the more that the industry is changing due to women getting involved, the more the costumes reflect that. No longer are these female heroes meant for the male gaze and not much more. The costumes are cool, they’re practical, they’re badass. It may have taken a while to get here, but at least we’re starting to see it. Hell, even Melissa’s Benoist finally got pants after asking for them for years. Look at the new Supergirl’s costume, there’s no skirt or heeled shoes.
Also, this isn’t to say that sexualized costumes are evil or anything. I really did like Supergirl’s original costume, but it depends on who it’s for. I never liked Harley’s outfit in SS because it was meant for the male gaze, and I found it silly. While I appreciate Diana’s iconic look, there is something off-putting seeing her with a tiny skirt and corset-esc top while Batman and Flash get armour in the Justice League. Even in the CW’s Stargirl, Courtney wears a crop top and shorts that are above the knee. I like the costume, but it could be a full shirt at least. It’s not practical for her to be exposing that much skin considering how many times Cindy stabbed her or she got tossed into the pavement.  But if you’re going to put a woman in a sexy outfit, then do the same for men. And for the love of all things good in this world, stop putting women in heels in action movies. It’s ridiculous.

The day that your sister died it was in a way uneventful. You both knew it was coming; it was just a matter of when. You were prepared in terms of logistics, your sister sat you down and basically forced you to plan her death. “Y/n promise me that… promise me that  you’ll move on.” She rasped out, when she noticed your presence. She had just been taken off a ventilator. “Don’t ask me to do that Em” You shook your head… But she knew you too well, which is why she insisted on making you promise. “If I don’t make you promise you’ll dwell on it… I know you.” She reasoned, every word more strained than the last, her confidence never wavering. You chuckled trying to hide your pain and your tears, before you looked her in the eyes. “I-i can’t, not right now I just got you back. Now it's her turn to laugh. “I can feel it Y/n.” She confesses,  “I’m tired.” she continues. You hold her hand and squeeze it bringing her hand to your head. “You still have some time in you.” You reason, and she laughs. “Don’t make me promise right now, do it later alright.” You both knew she was too tired to argue with you so she nodded.
Not long after that conversation your sister closed her eyes and never got to open them again. She didn’t get to make you promise, and you hated yourself for having stopped her. After that everything flowed smoothly. Funeral arrangements had been made, and even then just going through the process felt like hell. Her wake was three days later, three days in which everyone you knew pitied you. Three days where you wished you'd gone with her, three days in which you contemplated taking things into your own hands. Mike had been the only reason you didn’t, he kept an eye on you. Didn’t let you wander too deep into the darkness, and if he did he was right there with you. The disconnect only grew when you said goodbye to your sister the last time. You were gone off in your own world, a vicious cycle of self hatred and guilt. You stayed longer after everyone else was gone, just looking at the rain fall. You were almost too engrossed in your thoughts, to notice the lingering stranger.
“You want to come out? No need to linger.” You speak out loud. You hear steps and shuffling grow louder and clearer with every second, until you feel a body sit down next to you. “I’m sorry…” You hear a sultry voice beside you. Turning your head you meet some beautiful green eyes. “You're sorry for… for what? I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen you before.” You state not bothering to look back at her. She chuckles, shaking her head. “Short bob, blue hair… ring a bell?” Your head shoots to look at her once more, in awe really it had been years since you last thought of them. And here she was sitting next to you, that's when you realized you recognized her, and not just as that girl you knew once upon a time. “Nat?” You questioned softly, she nodded. She hugged you, and it was the only real comfort you’d had throughout this whole experience. “You- you became a superhero.” You say as she pulls back. She shakes her head. “I’ve got red on my ledger… It’s the least I can do.” You chuckle. “Well I’d say that saving New York from an alien invasion, and thereby saving us all more than makes up for it.”
“You don’t know what I’ve done.” She answers vaguely. You only nod and look back to your surroundings. “Yeah well, we’ve all done things we regret.” You say somberly. “Come on, let's get you home.” She says, holding out her hand. Being back home always brought you some peace, the lingering presence of your sister now weighs heavily on your shoulders. “You know when you said your sister was sick I thought it was more like the flu.” She says randomly. “That’s what we thought it was.” You confess. “What happened?” She asks, handing you a shot of vodka. “You carry this with you everywhere?” You try to laugh, but you can’t bring yourself to. “I try to.” She plays along. After that you drink, only taking in the new addition to the coffee table… Her urn. Half a bottle of vodka later the tears just slip out of your eyes. “A little after you guys left we found out she had leukemia.”  You sigh letting out a frustrated chuckle. “And she was so strong… so strong. Went through two heavy rounds of chemo, and she would crack jokes… she made us all laugh.” You can see Nat from the corner of your eye, her body language tells you that she is listening so you continue. “Then we were given hope for a stem cell transplant, they said it could help her.”
“She was so little… and I was so scared that I'd lose her that I’d be alone.” You confessed. “And I felt so selfish… because being with our parents was hell. Em was too young to see to understand what they did. After the diagnosis she rarely left the hospital.” You clarified now Nat’s eyes were on you. “It got better when Em started getting more sick.” You stop for a while letting your confessions settle. “It stopped when the doctors found out I was a viable donor for her.” Taking another shot you wipe your tears. “It worked, and we followed every rule to a ‘T’... half way into her second year in remission, it came back more aggressive. So she went through all of it again only now she could remember and understand the gravity of the situation... And I-I couldn’t save her this time.” You sigh. “I could only watch her die…” You feel a hand on your shoulder, you turn and see tears in Nat’s eyes. “You did the best you could… You did everything right.” You shake your head. “She was my sister, my baby sister. I promised her I would protect her, and look at where she is!”
“Y/n… Y/n” She calls out “You did more than I did.” She reveals slowly. Your eyes meet her worry filling your body, a memory of the younger girl filling your mind. She then goes on to tell you her story. The Red Room, Dreykov, Melina, and Alexi. Most importantly Yelena, more so her lack of information on the younger girl. By the time she finished explaining she couldn’t look you in the eye. Her posture no longer commanding, she looked ashamed and deflated. “I don’t hate you.” You say honestly. “You needed out, I understand that.” She shakes her head. “I did a horrible horrible thing Y/n. I killed that little girl.” You nod. “But think of the hundreds of girls you saved from having to go through that, through what you went through.” She shakes her head again. “I left her I-I didn’t go back to her… I didn’t even look for her.” You nod, and hand her another shot. “Yeah very shit move on your part.” You say honestly in a light tone. She glares at you momentarily. “... But she’s not dead.” You shift to take the urn and hand it to her. “She’s still very much alive… You just have to start looking for her.” She gives you a look as she contemplates the weight of the urn in her hands.
“She’s going to hate me…” You hum. “Most likely, but she never was one to hold a grudge.” You reminisce. “You can only go up from here.” She nods, handing you the urn back. “I would’ve loved to meet her.” You nod. “She was a good sister, and an even better person.” You wipe your tears and sit back in your seat. “You gotta promise me something…” She hums and nods her head. “You got to look for her… If not for yourself, do it for me. Give yourself that chance to have a family.” She nods. “Take care of yourself.” You nod. “You take your time. Heal…” She clarifies. “I will, I just have to process. Goodbye Natasha, I will miss you… also you should really consider the blue hair, I think It looked bad ass.” She shakes her head. “Never again Y/n, mark my words.” You chuckle. “Alright, alright… maybe short and blonde I feel like you could pull that off.” She nods. “I’ll keep that in mind.” She hugs you again, this time taking her time and granting you both the comfort of each other's warmth. “Goodbye Y/n.” Just like that she let you go and walked out the front door. Before she actually walked out the threshold, she turned “She’ll be back sooner or later, you just wait.” She says and with that she walked out of the house.
Present
“She looked for you?” You asked Yelena as she sat back down in the booth. “Not exactly…” She answered. “Em… Emily she umm, she passed away two years ago.” Her eyes immediately jump back to you analyzing and searching for the truth. “Well, Nat- Natasha found out somehow.” She had no comment and was waiting for you to continue so you do. “She told me everything… most of everything I'm pretty sure.” You pause and take a sip of your drink. “She promised me she’d look for you. She told me you’d be back.” She nods again, before tapping the table once and walking away, with no invitation to follow you nod and take a gulp from your drink.

That first fight, you can't gif it because it's all sounds but after they drop the guns it's a total sibling fight right up until Nat nearly kills Yelena and they stop and aren't fighting anymore
The only way it could be more sisterly is if Nat got Yelena to promise not to tell their parents

Black Widow (2021)
Tumblr media
It’s not easy being a former assassin turned superhero. For years Natasha has had blood in her ledger and with this movie she finally gets to wipe it clean. In my opinion this movie gives Black Widow a back story and a proper send off. She gets to reconnect with her sister Yelena, and they both share emotional scenes that make the viewer feel sorry for the rough childhood they both had to endure. Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova is the character that I had my eye on the most. She’s a bit rough around the edges because of her past, but there is both a bit of humor and charm to her. Rachel Weisz and David Harbour also shine as Melina Vostokoff and Alexei Shostakov. They have a Boris and Natasha esque relationship that works great on the big screen.
My biggest gripe with Black Widow is that I wish this movie came out directly after Capt. America: Civil War. Natasha Romanoff is a core member of the Avengers and she deserved to have a solo film. While she does finally get that, Marvel shoehorning this movie in after seeing her demise in Avengers Endgame feels a little off-putting. I think black widow is getting a bad rap at the moment because of the route marvel chose to go with Taskmaster. While I agree that the choice was poor, I refuse to let that sway my opinion on the Cate Shortland film overall. For me, Black Widow is about dealing with familial problems and confronting that pain. These characters are by no means perfect, Scarlett Johansson shows how we can come together and mend fences.

BLACK WIDOW SPOILERS
I don’t know why but I was actually disappointed by Black Widow. I thought it was going to be really emotional and expecting some Avengers cameos. Also potentially her death mentioned (I understand it takes place way before Endgame though). It was slight emotional but not very much and zero cameos. It felt although there originally was more a lot more emotional scenes but got cut after the movie was delayed. Overall, just disappointing.

I did it.. I made a Widow Gemma Verse below the cut is the verse! I wont post it to my blog on and on the verses thing till next week but this post will be marked.
Being born to a father who only wanted a son was not a great start to life. How could a father do this to their daughter? Experiment on her? Unable to believe that she could have been so blind to what he had done, she packed up and left. Out into a world that was not safe. Each night she would have to fight for her life, or if she managed to find a place to sleep it was hard and unwelcoming. She had been picked up several times for petty things, though there was a fight in her, and some people saw that. Though they had yet to make their presence known.
Gemma had been on the streets for weeks now, with no one to protect her or watch her back. She was no one, no birth record, her father never bothering to get her or her brother one. Wandering the streets she kept her head low, surviving, doing whatever she could do to survive, but being so young you could only do so much. Late one night Gemma had felt as if she was being followed, even from the age of ten she had been able to follow her senses quite well. Picking up the pace she tried to outsmart them, but who would help the homeless girl who probably had pickpocketed them once or twice. Turing the corner she was quickly knocked unconscious, the world fading to black. Collapsing.
Waking up she found herself in a shipping crate, was this what the woman at the church she slept at been talking about? Traffickers? If so who would bother looking for her? She was a no-one? Soon there was loud noises, yelling, and then screaming. Panicking Gemma had no idea what to do, so she acted on her instinct. She fought. Though this only ended up with her being beaten, though she did not go down easily. This caught the eyes of the people watching, this was only the beginning. Hell was what became her world, until... It wasn't, this became life. Wake up, train, eat, sleep repeat. Day by day the Red Room chipped away at that 'street girl', working to create a killer.  Each week the fire within her becoming more focused, the fight that she had more trained. She did not disobey, she had orders and she followed them.
Gemma was no longer that girl who lived on a street she was something different. She was a widow. After the fall, however, Gemma became lost, only knowing rules and orders. Feeling as if she never really saw the world or experienced it she is lost, there is a part of her that is grateful for the freedom but then deep down there is a need... A fear of making choices for herself. She now searches for a reason to fight, or someone to fight for.
