OH YN GOD OLAY SO I NEED TO RANT FOR A MINUTE ABOUT THE HORRIBLE WRITING IN CANDACE OWENS "BLACKOUT" BOOK

So, for starters, I got this book from a little free library, so I didn't pay for it. I would never pay for it, and honestly NO ONE SHOULD not because blah blah blah opposing viewpoint blah blah blah bad author blah blah blah harmful stereotypes blah blah blah doesn't know what she's talking about (even if those are all true) BUT BECAUSE SHE'S JUST SUCH A BAD AUTHOR.

She'll start off a chapter talking about one thing, like saying that cats don't like water, and then goes on to SAY SOMETHING COMPLETELY UNRELATED WITHOUT SAYING HOW THEY RELATE, AND THEN JUST EXPECTS THE READER TO KNOW WHAT SHE MEANS. She'll go and say, "Oh, cats don't like water, so the sky is green." AND THEN EXPECTS US TO JUST KNOW HOW SHE CAME TO THAT CONCLUSION???? Like, one chapter she talks about how she used to have an eating disorder and would go partying every night, how she had no rules and would get into fights, right? AND THEN SHE SAYS THAT THATS LEFTISM UNLEASHED. Doesn't say HOW that's leftism, just says it, and then the chapter ends.

Second point, SHE DOESN'T USE ANY ACTUAL EVIDENCE/STATISTICS TO SUPPORT HER CLAIMS. In one of her chapters, she was talking about how women will falsely accuse men of rape, which IS real and something that needs to be addressed, but then instead of sharing a few stories of how that can hurt people and show some statistics that show how often rape claims are proven false, SHE LISTS THREE STORIES. THREE. ONE OF WHICH WAS A LADY MISTAKING A LITTLE BOYS BACKPACK HITTING HER BUTT FOR HIM SLAPPING HER ASS (Which still isn't cool, considering the boy was very young AND ALSO OF COLOR, SO THE LADY PROBABLY CAME TO THAT CONCLUSION BASED ON HIS RACE) AND THEN GOES ON TO SAY THAT MOST RAPE CLAIMS ARE FALSE AND JUST MADE UP BECAUSE THE WOMEN REGRET IT THE NEXT DAY. Doesn't show any ACTUAL statistics. Doesn't go on to mention the amount that ARE REAL.

Third, when SHE DOES bring up statistics, SHE'LL USE TWO DIFFERENT STATISTICS TO HELP HER ARGUMENT. In one chapter she was brought up some statistics on PREVENTABLE deaths in white people, and then lists BOTH PREVENTABLE AND UNPREVENTABLE DEATHS IN BLACK PEOPLE and then draws conclusions! YOU CAN'T DO THAT. THOSE ARE TWO DIFFERENT STATISTICS, THOSE DO NOT MEAN THE SAME THING.

Fourth, she'll mention articles that she's read, and EVEN QOUTE THEM! But she won't cite them! She won't give us a name! She just drops then there, interprets them, and then doesn't say where they came from. Like, once she was talking how FDR supposedly prolonged the great depression, she says that there was an article PROVING that, and then QOUTES THAT ARTICLE, but doesn't say the name of it! ON TOP OF THAT, THE QOUTE SHE USED DIDN'T EVEN MENTION HOW FDR PROLONGED THE DEPRESSION!!

Fifth, SHE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO INTERPRET EVIDENCE. Like, in the example above, she quoted an article that supposedly talks about how FDR prolonged the great depression, right? Well, the qoute ACTUALLY just talks about how many policies that FDR promised would help many black people in America really DIDN'T help. Like at all. And then she goes on to say, "SEE! SO THAT MEANS THAT SOCIALISM IS BAD!"

AND THIS ISN'T EVEN GETTING INTO ALL THE THINGS SHE JUST GETS FLAT-OUT WRONG!! THIS ISN'T EVEN GETTING INTO ALL THE HORRIBLE THINGS SHE SAYS, OR THE REALLY WIERD, RANDOM THINGS SHE SAYS OUT OF LEFT FIELD!!! THIS IS JUST ABOUT HER HORRRIBEL WRITING!!! SHE SHOULD KNOW THIS STUFF!! THIS IS, LIKE, HIGHSCHOOL LEVEL THINGS THAT SHE SHOULD KNOW!!!! AND SHE DOESN'T!!!!!

No.

I'm not, and I recommend others don't.

You guys don't know how sacred Tumblr is at this point. We're holding refugees from the hellsite Twitter, and now even Reddit after people did strikes. And to strike on the strikers and their newly acquainted comrades? Why?

I understand Tumblr mobile is fucked, but we've been dealing with this shit for awhile. And to get it fixed isn't going to work in the blink of an eye (just leaving a few days). And the also proposed indefinite blackout? No!

All I have is Tumblr, I have nothing else. I barely even use other apps. I would have nothing to do if I didn't have Tumblr. I'd become some Roblox obsessed geeky bitch who stays up till 4am roleplaying with AIs if I didn't atleast have Tumblr to go to. I'd have no social media to connect with people, which is the only damn thing keeping my mental state semi-in check at the moment.

And plus, I couldn't give up the people I know and have grown to love on here. This may also be a hellsite, but I love this hellsite. Even if I were to agree with this blackout and join along, they wouldn't do anything. It doesn't work like that. Nothing works like that, you'd be wasting your time. And the only decent site up right now.

Do you want to give up the only site that most people have and black it out, or do you just want to complain enough that they fix the issues we're having? Though, neither will work, and I know that, but what else are we to do? Empty out the only site we have, the refugees have aswell? God forbid people have to turn to Instagram. And I can't turn to Instagram, I just can't. Snapchat is just off the market for turning to. We can't turn to anything else to preserve our sanity like Tumblr does.

And think about how personally this affects people, like me. I'm not allowed on any social media except Tumblr and Zepeto. All my friends on Zepeto have deactivated their accounts, so I barely go on there anymore but to fuck with templates. My 1k followers on there? (cuz I was one of the first people on the site when it was in beta). Well, they're dropping, down into the 900s now. I just gave up on having hope in that site. I'm already on there, and the (albeit very little) hype to it has died. That, I can't turn to.

Tumblr and the people on it are the only thing that is keeping me alive. I don't want my friends striking and leaving me here, I don't want it to turn to me being the odd one out and having nobody here to talk to. I just don't want to hurt this Satan ran hellsite. I don't want to. It's just too personal for me.

It's an underdog

The Shape represents one of the most fascinating indie titles I've ever played, The Blackout Club, which is a story about a town in America's national radio quiet zone that's controlled by a cult, and how a ragtag band of teens are pushing back against said cult. The TBC community on tumblr is really small, so if you're someone who likes voting for the least popular poll options, I can GUARANTEE that The Shape will be your underdog.

It is the platonic ideal of a father

SAO, the God responsible for the cult, has a stranglehold on the teenagers' parents. As such, when looking for a form for their invisible servant that would chase kids down, SAO naturally chose... A balding man wearing khakis, a polo shirt, and sneakers, that dad-jogs everywhere.

That's right! The Shape isn't JUST a dad - it's the PLATONIC IDEAL of a controlling father, chasing kids around in full dad-wear because they won't go to church.

When The Shape can't seem to capture its prey within a certain time frame, it grows spectral red wings that allow it to perform ten-foot vertical leaps in pursuit of the club kids. This form is colloquially referred to as The Angel.

I wonder what that's evocative of? Surely it couldn't be.... Religious trauma?!

It assists in the allegory the game is attempting to present

The Shape/The Angel is an allegorical vehicle! I should really just make a whole other essay about religious trauma in TBC, but for our purposes, The Shape represents the elder generation of a town that is under the influence of a cult sect, like Mormonism - Attempting to grab the kids of the community and "add them to The Song", which is code for indoctrinating and brainwashing them. In a similar manner to how these insular religious communities leave people they can't convert for dead, if you escape your father's The Shape's indoctrination twice, the next time it gets you, it just Straight Up Kills You. How wonderfully succinct.

Kaveh was aware of his feelings and just kinda moped about it

They have separate rooms but despite that, Kaveh likes sleeping in Alhaitham's room since he likes being close to him

When they get into an argument Alhaitham will steal Kaveh’s keys to force Kaveh to talk to him
