You’re Mine (Ellie x reader angst one shot)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
DEALER ELLIE SUPREMACY!!!!!! 🧎🏻‍♀️🧎🏻‍♀️🧎🏻‍♀️
It was silent, neither of you moved or spoke, your eyes were fixed on each other, neither of you daring to look away. Your eyes were glassy and bloodshot and hers were cold and dark, your nose was sore and running as you sniffled holding the tears in your eyes that were begging to be let free. You didn't understand how a girl that shows you as much love as she does could hurt you so bad.
disclaimer: I am in fact british and I've tried to use american vocab in we meet again, darling because I imagined the story set in a US city (NYC in my mind but i left it blank so people could imagine whatever city they wanted but i digress) and i did not enjoy doing that bc ik i still make mistakes and i think it looks goofy so one shots and headcanons and stuff will probs be set in britain, sorry if that is a bit annoying <3
You and Ellie had went to a party at a friend's flat, you had dressed up nice and Ellie had admired you while licking her lips as you got ready.
"You look unreal babe."
"Thank you. Want me to do your makeup after?"
"Yeah but don't blind me this time."
"I didn't fucking blind you, you blinked it into your eyeball, who blinks without warning when you're doing mascara?"
"Someone that blinks normally." You scoff at her and go back to getting ready ignoring her victorious smirk in the mirror.
As you arrived at the party you were both in a great mood, you're immediately greeted by some friends as you walk in and Ellie kisses you on the cheek and takes her leave to go set up on the sofa. Immediately she's swarmed by people looking to get their fix, some wanted weed, some wanted blow, she always had a variety when she went to a party and you can't help the hot feeling in your core as you take in her sitting there, legs comfortably spread with a cigarette hanging from her lips. She had dark grey baggy jeans on, with a black t-shirt that poked out from her hoodie that matched the colour of her jeans, her black converse poke out from the jeans and you never aren't amazed at the state of them, you bought matching converse together and you're both wearing them tonight but they look like entirely different shoes. Her silver chain with a charm that's the first letter of your name is laid on top of her hoodie and the view makes you swoon. Her auburn shaggy hair cut is concealed mostly by her small black beanie, you had played with the hair on show at the back of her neck on the way here, you always loved when she wore a beanie, something about it was just so hot to you.
You had been dancing for hours and chatting when Ellie grabs you and drags you away from your conversation.
“Come on, we’re leaving.”
“Is everything okay?” She doesn’t answer she just continues dragging you out of the flat, she doesn’t release her tight grip on your arm until you’re walking through the door of your shared home. There was a red mark where her hand was and you watched as she froze when she saw the mark.
“Babe what’s going on? Did something happen with a deal?” She chuckles, it’s dark and full of mockery.
“You just don’t fucking get it do you? Are you really this stupid or are you just an attention whore?”
“Excuse me?” Your ears rang as her words hit you, you felt a stabbing pain in your chest as tears pricked behind your eyes begging to release, you couldn’t give her the satisfaction so you chewed on your bottom lip and blinked away the tears while you attempted to swallow the lump in your throat. “What the fuck are you talking about Ellie?”
“You! Fucking parading yourself everywhere and if that wasn’t enough you had to fucking hump Lucy right in front of my fucking face.” She yelled as she walked closer to you, you walked backwards trying to keep some space but as your back hit the wall she closed in on you. “Do you need me to remind you who you belong to hm?”
“Fuck off Ellie.” You push her off of you with every ounce of strength as the dam breaks and the tears begin to flow down your cheeks, you storm away to your shared bedroom with a delusional hope that she wouldn’t follow. You slam the door behind you only for it to immediately be slammed open again, the door smashes into the wall and you stay frozen with your back turned away from her.
“Fuck off Ellie? seriously that’s all you have to say? How about I’m fucking sorry.”
You spin to face her at her statement. “I’M SORRY? I have nothing to be sorry for Ellie. I did nothing wrong.”
“Bullshit.”
“Fine Ellie, tell me exactly what I did wrong then.” Your voice comes out nasally and choked as the tears don’t falter in their pace as they race down your cheeks. You meet her eyes and the look of contempt only makes you sob more.
“You put on that skimpy outfit you know will get you attention then we go to the party and instead of coming to see me and sit with me and make it known that you’re mine, you literally speak to every single other person at the party. You were all over everyone, I’m sure they were embarrassed for you because I fucking was. No wonder you feel like they don’t like you as much anymore, they probably don’t. Oh and just to top it off you then danced with Lucy right in front of me giving me a front row seat to her wandering hands and you being all over it. You’re fucking out of order.”
You scoff at her, you’re genuinely stunned at how she could be so horrible. Ellie had never been like this with you, you were speechless.
“Yeah exactly now you’ve got nothing to say. If you’re gonna be a slut at least own it.”
“What the fuck did you just call me?” The tears had stopped, you weren’t upset anymore you were furious, a red film was over your vision as you stomped over to her until your faces were inches away from each other. “Go on. Say it again.”
“I said you’re an attention-seeking slut.” She spat the words out with a venom and a switch flipped in your head. You didn’t speak you just started walking around the room throwing all your essentials into the first bag you could find. She watches while still for a second but as she realises you’re packing she rushes to start taking all the things out of your bag.
“Don’t Ellie. I don’t want to speak to you right now. Leave me alone.”
“No, you’re not leaving.”
“I’ll do whatever the fuck I want.” She keeps removing the things that you’re packing from your bag until you huff and give up going to look for your car keys. “You can’t drive anywhere, you’re drunk.” You hated to admit she was right in the moment but you knew it wasn’t worth the risk.
“Then I’ll get an uber.” You start searching for your phone until you turn to see Ellie holding it in her hand. You storm over to her but she holds it above your head so you can’t reach. “Ellie give it back I’m serious.”
“I said you aren’t leaving.” The tears begin again as you feel helpless.
“Why do you fucking care? I’m just a slut right, not your girlfriend of three fucking years.”
It’s quiet as you both stand processing everything that’s been said, tears are streaming down your face but you don’t feel like you’re crying anymore. Ellie stands shifting her weight from one side of her body to the other as she fidgets with her fingers. She looks up at you and her heart breaks knowing she’s the reason you’re so upset after having such a good night.
“Why didn’t you come and see me all night? You always come and sit with me while I do my deals at least for a little bit and you didn’t. I rolled us a pink spliff to smoke together and you barely even came near me until you started grinding up against Lucy.” Her voice is soft and quiet, she sounds ashamed of herself because she is, she’s ashamed that she’s let her insecurities cause her to be horrible to the best person in her life, she felt sick with herself, she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror hanging on the wall of the living room and all she saw looking back at her was a monster.
“Ellie if you wanted to spend time with me you could’ve come and got me. You know I always want to spend time with you, I hadn’t seen loads of those people for ages so I was just catching up. But if you wanted me to come sit all you had to do was come get me and you know I would’ve sat with you until we left. I was dancing with Lucy my straight best friend of 12 years for fucks sake. If something was going on there it would’ve happened already.”
“You sure it hasn’t?” Ellie knows it hasn’t, she knows you would never do that. But her brain isn’t connected to her mouth anymore, her jealousy is the only thing controlling her actions right now, she feels like she’s watching a horrible film where the main character does the opposite of the right thing at every turn.
“You are unbelievable. I have been nothing but a loyal and loving girlfriend to you, I do not deserve this and I don’t have to prove anything to you but seeing as I have nothing to hide, my phone is in your hand. Go on Ellie, if you dont trust me, go through my phone and prove yourself wrong.” She looks down at the phone but doesn’t make a move to unlock it. Her stillness only ignites the fire of your rage more. “Go on! You know the password, it’s your birthday! So go on Ellie, admit you don’t trust me and go through my phone.”
She stays in her place looking at your phone until she sighs and holds it out to you. “Of course I trust you. You just- you don’t notice how many people’s eyes are on you wherever we go, and it’s never bothered me, I love it, I love that you’re as beautiful as you are, I’m proud to be next to you but when we were at that party all I could see were people trying to take you from me and when I looked at you all I could see was you leaving me.” She sniffles and you see a single tear run down her face that she wipes away as soon as she can. You take your phone from her hand and throw it down onto the sofa next to you before walking to stand right in front of her. She avoids your eyes but you gently nudge her chin so she looks at you.
“Ellie, no one else could ever make me leave you. I love you, you are my world, my heart beats for you Ellie, it has since the day I met you. What will drive me away is if you take out your insecurities and jealousy on me instead of talking to me about it. I won’t stay around to be treated like this. I am better than this and I deserve better than this, I will help you work through this but not if you’re going to do this again.” It was like what you said was the end of the world as she immediately broke down into sobs, the sight stopped you in your tracks as Ellie never cried. You moved slowly like you were handling a bomb as you cupped her cheeks, your hands had barely touched her face before she was pulling you into a bone-crushing hug as she continued crying into your shoulder. You stroked her hair gently and let her cry until she calmed down enough to sniffle and take a deep breath.
“I’m sorry, please don’t leave me. I’ll fix it, I won’t get jealous anymore I swear I’m sorry.” She mutters into your shoulder as she cries more, her grip on you tightened almost like she was physically trying to stop you from going anywhere. You wrapped your arms around her neck and cuddle into her more as you walk backwards toward the sofa pulling her down on top of you.
“I’m not going to leave you and we can work on this together, you’re allowed to get jealous but you need to be able to discuss it with me instead of attacking me. I’m sorry for making you feel forgotten, I had no intention of doing that but I’m sorry that I made you feel that way anyway. I love you Ellie and you are the most beautiful person I have ever met, I am so lucky to have you I would never want anyone over you.”
She looks up at you and presses a light kiss to your lips, so sweet it almost rids your lips from the salty remnants of your tears. “I love you more. Thank you for being so good to me.” She doesn’t seem entirely convinced by your description of her but she appreciates the reassurance more than she can explain.
You wrap your legs around her waist and squeeze her so tight you hear a choked groan leave her lips involuntarily. You make eye contact that neither of you break as you brush your knuckles over her cheek.
“I really am sorry. You know I didn’t mean anything I said, I’m sorry, please forgive me.”
“I do El. But it won’t happen again.”
“Never.” You share a timid kiss and she lays her head down on your chest to listen to your heartbeat, it had always soothed her, she feels herself calming and sinking into you until she looks up to see you already looking down at her with a devious smirk. “What’s up babe?”
“You still got that pink spliff from earlier?”
“I love you so much.”

PINNED POST. READ IT. BITCH. [In process of updating!!!!]
[Minors. Ageless blogs, blank blogs, and anyone discovered to be doing predator shit will be blocked (and reported, in a few of those cases]
Don't worry, I'm not gonna do that early tumblr thing where I type in all caps and call you a motherfucker every other sentence.
Hello, all! I'm Avie, a 31 year old nonbinary, switch, polyamorous, futchy dyke with raging AuDHD and Problematic Kinks ™️. This is a hard kink blog. Some of the contents *will* make you uncomfortable. And that's okay! If it's too much you can block me, I'm not worried about it. That being said, what you're not going to do is send me asks telling me that I'm a danger to "real lesbians' and you hope I get raped for real. Yeah, it's happened, and if you're someone who thinks that's okay to do, you need to take a long look in the mirror and ask yourself what the fuck is wrong with you. Kink is kink. Kinks between enthusiastically consenting adults are fine. If you can't handle that, don't call yourself kink positive, and don't enter kinky spaces because you're clearly not mature enough to be there.
Now that I've said that, let's jump into some of the kinks you'll find on this blog. Some of these I'd like to explore in a kink setting some day, others are strictly fantasy. Which is my business, don't assume:
Orientation play - Could be anything from being gay and trans to being ace, though I'm not into the "being fixed" flavor. Not into misgendering/detransition kinks.
CNC - soft and hard
Rape play
Ageplay
Age gaps (I like older people. Reminder that I'm *31* so like, 40+ is very hot to me)
Incest play (older brother, father, uncle, grandpa? Maybe?)
Forced to cheat (this is new and I'm still figuring it out)
Being made to enjoy forced stuff
Piss!!!
Breeding and creampies
Gentle, affectionate degradation/pet names
Public sex, especially on public transit and in nature
Intox play
Monsterfucking - werewolves, tentacles, and ghosts being the big ones, but not the only ones.
Size different/size queen shit
Fucked while on the phone
Fucked by customers (long-suffering retail worker), doctors, older friends/bosses, anyone who has some authority over me.
Autism-friendly play (see * on Hard No list)
As you can see, some decently hard shit. Again, if you don't like, just block me. Despite these kinks, I'm a pretty soft person. I like it when forcing me to feel pleasure and enjoyment in things I shouldn't is at the root of these kinks, not hate or degradation. So here is my list of shit I'm *not* into:
Harsh/mean degradation
Being called worthless, stupid, etc. Lovingly saying I'm going dumb from pleasure is okay.
Misogyny, patriarchy, white supremacy.
Cutting, bruising, face slapping, beating, choking, suffocation via head until water, burning/branding, knives or guns, genital mutilation...you get the picture. The only pain I'm into is the pain of an initial, too-big stretch, but even that needs to end in pleasure. I live with chronic pain, I don't want to deal with pain in kink, too.
Scat, vomit, spit, swallowing semen
Total loss of autonomy
* anything like being forced to look you in the eyes, sensory overstimulation, taking advantage of me during meltdowns, removing comfort items, making me eat/taste things I'm averse to.
Weight/food/ED stuff
Pregnancy! Pregnancy risk is hot, breeding is hot, but actual pregnancy kink toward me is a Hard No
Bloggers beware: pro-ana/pro-ed/fatphobic blogs will be blocked immediately
Basically, I like hard kinks coming from soft places. Is that a contradiction? I don't really think so.
I welcome and LOVE talking to others! I like being a slut! That being said:
I prefer asks over dms. I repeat, I PREFER ASKS OVER DMS.
Asks can be about anything! Scenarios, fantasies, questions, anything. Again, I like openly being a slut lol
If you dm me "hey," if we're talking and I'm doing all the work to maintain the convo, if you ask me for pics (I'll give them out if I feel like it, not on request), if you're younger than 25, if you violate my boundaries - depending on the situation I'll ignore/delete it or possibly block you.
You're allowed to send pics and vids at any point, no need to ask! Also in looove with piss gifs/videos, but if you're going to send me one (yes please) I'm begging you to drink water first. Hydrate, babes!
...okay, I think that's everything. Sorry for the long as fuck post! Once more, if it's clear you haven't read my pinned I'm gonna block you. You need to learn how to respect boundaries if you're going to do, well, anything in life, but especially being in kinky communities. If you can't even read one post, you don't belong here.
Have fun, send me naughty shit!!
~ Avie

what was happening with deregulation in the US in the late 20th century? a lot of time I hear things in [blank] industry were okay and then Reagan/1980s happened.
Aha. Ahahhahaha. Ahahaha. HAH.
Basically: yes. Unbelievable as it may sound, the Republican party did once have a policy platform that consisted of more than "torment gay people, women, and people of color as much as possible while worshiping a deranged orange con man wannabe dictator." There are many trenchant analyses to be written on how they fell so far, though a large part of that must point out the abject white hysteria that resulted after Obama was elected in 2008, the institutional guardians of white supremacy realized that they hadn't done "well enough" at keeping a black man out of the White House, and two years later, we had the Tea Party. (Who, frankly, look almost cute and cuddly compared to the QAnon insurrectionist nutcases today.) However, I digress.
In the immediately post-World War II West, government spending was actually seen as a good thing, coming on the heels of Franklin D. Roosevelt's landmark New Deal that overhauled US social safety nets and public spending. The US-backed Marshall Plan was developed to restore Europe, and war hero general, the Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower, was elected president in 1953. During the two terms of his presidency (1953-61), the top marginal tax bracket was a whopping 91%. This itself was lower than the absolute maximum tax rate, which in 1944 rose to 94% of all income over $200,000 ($2.5 million in today's money). Not surprisingly, during Eisenhower's presidency, the US built the interstate system, developed the space program, and actually had money to fund public services and schools. This was the era when you could go to a public university for about fifty bucks a semester and buy a house on minimum wage, in your first job after you graduated. (Yes, I know this is enraging.) Not to paint too rosy a picture -- after all, this was the 1950s, with its violent Jim Crow laws, electroshock therapy as a common and accepted "remedy" for homosexuality, and attempts to force women back into the domestic sphere after their liberation during WWII -- but yes, it did relentlessly tax the wealthy and spend the profits on civic and public infrastructure. This all happened under Eisenhower, who was, again, a Republican.
High taxes on the wealthy remained a staple through the 1960s and 70s. In 1964, the topmost bracket was lowered to 77%, and in 1965, to 70%, where it remained until 1981. You may recognize this as Ronnie Raygun's first year in office. Then it was slashed to 50%, while Reagan hiked taxes on lower earners (despite his reputation as the Great Economizer, he raised taxes twelve different times during his eight years in office). By 1987, the highest marginal tax rate for an individual had plunged all the way to 28 percent (this down from the aforementioned high-nineties and middle seventies). Corporate and capital gains tax rates also took a dive, in the name of establishing what was forever after known as "Reagonomics," "supply-side economics," or "trickle-down economics." In short, in the thinking of the early 1980s Republican party, all this excessive taxation and government regulation was hindering the "pure" operation of the free market, and unfortunately, the market turmoil, gas shortages, and economic crashes of the 1970s made this a winning political platform. So cut the taxes, cut the rules, let the wealthy entrepreneurs do their thing, and they'll make so much money that they'll just benevolently hand it down to the lower classes!
That, again, might sound totally ludicrous, but it was the core of Reagonomics' magical thinking: enable the rich to make as much money as possible, and the rest of the economy will sort itself out. Well, as you may know, that, uh, did not happen. When you allow rich people to keep all the money they make, it turns out that they just hoard it, and don't actually altruistically pass it down to the lower classes. This slash in tax rates had to be accompanied, as mentioned, by removing all the bothersome rules and regulations that tried to ensure the ethical operation of the government and major companies. This was also a Reagan-specific innovation. Even Richard Goddamn Nixon (also a Republican) was fairly liberal on social programs and had created the Environmental Protection Agency and the Clean Water Act in 1972. The Reagan gang wanted that gutted, because it did annoying things like police the amount of toxic chemicals in groundwater, and that could interfere with making big-bucks profits. All those rules had to go, because again, they interfered with the so-called "Invisible Hand" of the market wherein it would, allegedly, automatically correct and police itself. Anything that made money for corporations was Good. Anything that didn't was Bad.
Reagan then joined this all-for-the-rich economic strategy with the other toxic element gaining power in American politics at this time: the religious right. Prior to the late 70s and early 80s, Christian conservatives had seen politics as something too grubby and of-this-world for true believers to concern themselves with; they only had to worry about heaven and the world to come. But with the rise of televangelists like Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and the rest of the miserable crew, white evangelical Christians were mobilized to vote in large numbers -- and consistently -- for the first time. (Unfortunately for the rest of us, they have never stopped.) There was no chance of them joining the Democratic party, which had already horrified them with its acceptance of black people, the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Rights movement, and the federal push to desegregate schools and colleges (see especially the SCOTUS case Bob Jones University v. United States, 1983). So they found a welcoming home in the revamped Republican party, where economic and social conservatism made a happy marriage. Reagan was probably about as genuinely religious as Trump was (and as a former actor, he also came from an entertainment background), but he knew how to use the language and symbols of the religious right to cast himself as their shining moral hero (his campaign slogan in 1980 was, you guessed it, "Make America Great Again.") This, of course, played into Reagan's handling of the AIDS crisis, which was basically: just ignore it, it's God appropriately punishing those dirty homos.
Combined with his apocalyptic rhetoric about the Cold War, which drove the conflict to unsustainable levels before Reagan finally realized that maybe that wasn't a great idea, and his tendency to see the American president as an unaccountable monarch who didn't need to sully himself with asking Congress for approval (most notably exemplified in the Iran-Contra scandal of 1986, which almost brought down the administration), we can see all the ugly seeds of the lunatic far-right white-grievance cruelty machine that we're stuck with under the label of the Republican party today. This neoliberal economic policy was eagerly continued in the 90s under Bush Senior and Clinton: cut taxes, cut regulation, don't let anything get in the way of the Free Market. Which has led us to the wild income inequality we now have, the way billionaires and corporations have been largely able to completely shield their mega-profits from any taxation at all, and the resulting starvation of the middle and lower classes. What used to be automatically paid for, i.e. college, now has to be extensively loaned for, and that debt will usually never be fully paid off. There's no way a person can survive on one minimum-wage job, let alone buy a house.
We are only now talking about maybe, finally, imposing a 15% base rate for corporate taxation around the world. Fifteen percent. In America, it used to be as high as fifty-two percent (in the late 60s). Can you even imagine the abject screaming about socialism if that was proposed again today? Because yes, Reagan and the 1980s happened, and this is now what we're stuck with. Thanks for nothing, Gipper. Fuck you. Fuck you very much.

Heyy ;D
Irene Adler/ James Bonde supremacy real!!
How about Bonde × painter!reader (who always loves to draw Bonde whenever they can, showing their affection through arts) ?
Sometimes do painting activities together but reader is definitely much better lol
Thank you and Have a good day/night !<3
Of course, it is! They're literally so underrated, give this man some love and affection fr.
Pairing: James Bond/Irene Adler x Painter!Reader
Genre: ???
Summary: After seeing all of your Bond-inspired paintings, James decides to stay a while and watch you paint.
Warnings: none
Tumblr media
You wake up to the sound of birds chirping outside your window, sunlight filtering through the curtains. Stretching your arms, you yawn and rub your eyes, ready to start a new day. As a painter, your love for art knows no bounds, and today is no exception. But little do you know that today will be a bit different, for fate has something special in store for you.
You gather your art supplies, brushes of all sizes, and a fresh canvas, feeling the excitement bubbling within you. There's something about capturing the essence of a person on canvas that brings you joy, and there's one person who inspires you like no other—James Bond.
Ever since you met him during a mission that intertwined your paths, you've been captivated by his charisma, wit, and the enigma that surrounds him. You've spent countless hours sketching and painting his rugged features, his piercing eyes, and his confident stance. Each stroke of your brush carries your admiration for him, and you've poured your heart into every artwork.
Today, however, you have a feeling that something extraordinary might happen. As you finish setting up your art space, a knock on your door interrupts your thoughts. With a curious smile, you open the door to find James Bond himself, dressed impeccably as always.
"Good morning," he greets you, a hint of intrigue in his eyes. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything."
You chuckle softly, shaking your head. "No, not at all. In fact, I was just about to start a new painting. Care to join me?"
Bond's eyebrows raise in surprise, his lips curling into a smile. "You paint? That's a talent I didn't know you possessed."
You step aside, welcoming him inside your cozy art studio. "It's a passion of mine. And I can't think of a better subject than you, James."
He takes a moment to look around, his gaze falling upon the numerous portraits of him adorning the walls. The colors and textures bring him to life, and he's genuinely impressed by your skill.
"Quite the collection you have here," he remarks, his voice filled with admiration. "I had no idea I served as such an inspiration."
You laugh softly, a blush creeping onto your cheeks. "Well, you have this captivating presence that draws me in. And painting you is my way of expressing how much you mean to me."
Bond's eyes meet yours, a glimmer of understanding shining through. He walks over to the easel, examining the blank canvas awaiting your touch.
"Today, I'd like to see how you capture me," he says, his voice filled with curiosity.
You nod, dipping your brush into the paint. As you begin to create, you lose yourself in the moment, letting your emotions guide your hand. The brush dances across the canvas, capturing Bond's essence with each stroke. His expression shifts subtly, revealing a mix of surprise and amusement as he watches you work.
Time seems to blur as you lose yourself in the artistic trance, your passion fueling the artwork. The hours slip away effortlessly, and before you know it, the painting is complete.
Setting down your brush, you step back to admire your creation. There on the canvas, you've managed to capture the essence of James Bond—the charm, the strength, and the enigmatic allure that drew you to him in the first place.
Bond approaches the painting, his eyes scanning every detail. His lips part, but no words escape. Instead, he reaches out and gently places his hand on your cheek, his touch warm and reassuring.
"You've captured me like no one else ever has," he finally whispers, his voice filled with genuine appreciation.

It's Fictional Throwdown Friday!
This Week's Fighters...
The Deputy vs Bell!
Conditions:
Call of Duty Zombies and DLC Weapons are restricted. The Deputy during Far Cry 5 is used.
Scenario:
After Willis Huntley is done using the Deputy to retrieve confidential information, he decides to cover up his involvement with them by having Bell dispatched to eliminate them.
Analysis: The Deputy
It is the year 2018. Facism in America is on the rise. The nation's people are gripped by an overwhelming xenophobia fueled by an unquenchable nationalistic pride. The world is spiraling towards nuclear war, riding off the back of national supremacy and modern manifest destiny.
Seeing the oncoming nuclear war, a Christian extremist named Joseph Seed took all of this as a sign from God that he needed to save mankind. Creating the cult of personality known as the Project at Eden's Gate, Joseph would have his family take over all of Hope County. Those who refused to conform would be drugged into compliance or mindlessness by a drug called Bliss, while those who fought back were summarily killed. All to ensure that the humans who survived the nuclear war lived up to Joseph's ideal of a sinless society.
Four these crimes, the government would dispatch a small squadron of cops to arrest Joseph Seed. Of course, the small town cops are immediately overrun and captured by an entire county's worth of cultists, leaving only one Lone Deputy to take the fight to the Project at Eden's Gate.
If there is any good thing about being stranded in rural America, you'll never by short of an arsenal. All the doomsday preppers will have helpfully gathered one for you. The Deputy comes geared up with shovels, bats, brass knuckles, and sledgehammers for close range combat, and an assortment of handguns, SMGs, and an M-79 grenade launcher as side arms. When they need a little more fire power, they bust out the shotguns, the M133, the SBS, the SPAS-12, and the 1887, each with additional incendiary rounds. Their submachine guns and rifles come with armor piercing rounds, while their smiper rifles can be silenced with a suppressor for that clean kill. And that's on top of all their machine guns, bows, and rocket launchers, including a homing rocket launcher to take down those pesky helicopters.
And then there's just the plain old weird stuff. A homemade flame thrower isn't that odd, I guess, but the shovel launcher raises a few questions. As does the Actual Fucking Space Gun. The Magnopulser is a gun given to them that fires magnitized microwaves. These waves cause everything they hit to float helplessly off the ground and can completely vaporize human beings if fired at point blank.
Luckily, the Deputy need not rely on doomsday preppers or... aliens for their fire power. They're a force to be reckoned with all on their own. They're strong enough to chuck a shovel so hard that it spears a man through the chest, smash a wooden door to splinters, beat bulls to death with their bear hands, and survive falling off the hand of this giant statue of Joseph Seed.
Tumblr media
Using what appear to be Ponderosa Pine trees around it as a ruler, the statue's hand would have to be 470 feet tall. Assuming that the Deputy weighs the average of a 6'3 American man (Joseph Seed is canonically that tall and they're roughly the same height), they would've landed with an impact of 368 kilojoules. For reference, a speeding car traveling at 70 mph only hits with an energy of 31 kilojoules.
It is notable that the Deputy is comparable to other Far Cry protagonists. They can keep up with Hurk in live combat, who in turn and keep up with Ajay Ghale, who can dodge bullets from an AK-47.
Tumblr media
AK-47 bullets move at 710 m/s, meaning Ajay would have to be moving at nearly Mach 2 to dodge them.
With that kind of skill set, it's no wonder they're am expert at.... anything it occurs to them to try, really. Hunting, fishing, arcade gaming, acting, studying aliens, and even various stunts. They're good enough with their wingsuit to hijack planes and helicopters in midair, able to climb any mountain in Hope County with their mountain climbing rope, and good enough at stunt driving to re-enact all the greatest stunts of the best stuntman in the world, Clutch Nixon. They're a jack of all trades, capable of slaughtering cultists both with stealthy gorilla tactics and guns blazing Rambo gun fights. Quite the impressive feat considering each of these cultists were trained by Jacob Seed, a veteran from the first Gulf War in Iraq, who was able to survive eight days in the Iraq wilderness with no resources, no food, no water, and no shelter. Yet the Deputy still kicked his ass.
Yet, for all The Deputy's badass skills, those attributes can sometimes be their biggest weaknesses. For as good as they are at stealth, they're absolutely lousy at getting snuck up on, getting upducted no less than nine times over the course of the game because they were ambushed with a tranquilizer or sprayed with Bliss. Once captured, they're very susceptible to mind control as well. Like when Faith forced them to jump off the Joseph statue I mentioned earlier, or when Jacob mind controlled them into slaughtering their own resistance teammates. Or, most damningly, when Joseph himself completely erased their personality and rebuilt them as The Judge, turning them into his post apocalyptic enforcer.
It was a deliberate tragic irony. The Deputy killed Joseph's entire family in their quest for vengeance, dismantled his entire cult operation. So, in return, Joseph took everything from them, killing all their remaining friends and completely erasing their personality. The conflict left them both with absolutely nothing left to call their own. Just blood on the sand and nuke blasted hellscape to share between them.
Analysis: Bell
The year is 1981. The Cold War rages on. Even with both the United States and the Soviet Union staring down economic crises, both hover over the nuclear button waiting for the other to blink. The fate of billions lay in the hubris of empires.
It is in the midst of this chaos, American black ops operative Russell Adler, known and feared as "America's Monster", stumbles across the master plan of the mythical Russian spy Purseus. Supposedly the spy that leaked the Manhattan Project, though until now, he was considered nothing more than an urban legend. The reveal that the agent was involved the Iranian Hostage Crisis and seemingly had bigger plans on a global scale, was enough to put the United States on high alert. President Reagan authorized Adler to take Purseus down by any means necessary, treaties and international laws be damned. This gave Adler the green light to concoct a particularly devious plan.
Upducting one of Purseus's top agents, Adler subjected them to the United States's experimental mind control program. He tore apart their old personality and rebuilt them from the ground up, creating new memories for them to recontextualize the vital knowledge they already had. They weren't a co-conspirator in Purseus's plans, they were sn American agent who decoded them. They weren't a Soviet operative, they were MI6, no CIA, no ex-KGB. Whatever Adler needed them to be for his current narrative and operation. Their old self was gone, rebuilt and replaced with a codename. Bell. And they had a job to do.
They could still be nonbinary though. Adler didn't care about that. He may be America's Monster, but he's not transphobic. Diversity win?
As amoral as the action was, Bell proved to be worth the risk. They're highly trained in weapons from all over the globe of the Cold War era, including those which technically shouldn't even exist yet. For close range combat and stealth operations, they carry knives, throwing knives, smoke grenades, stun grenades, M67 grenades, tomahawks, and even C4. But for full on gun battles, they come decked out with a variety of rifles, machine guns, and pistols. From the tranquilizer gun when stealth is of the essence, to the glorious and iconic SPAS 12 shotgun. Oh, sorry, the "Gallo SA12". It's a SPAS 12 guys. The trusty recursive bow and "Pellington" (*cough* R700 *cough cough*) sniper rifles make silenced sniping a breeze, while the War Machine and Thumper Grenade Launchers helpfully obliterate everything in their path. And for everything in between, the MP5 and AK-47 submachine guns and automatics shred through dirty communists and filthy capitalists alike.
Bell possesses a remarkable intellect beneath all that firepower too. They're smart enough to track Purseus's best agents across the globe, covert enough to infiltrate the KGB Headquarters in the heart of Moscow, and deadly enough to kill everyone there should their cover be blown and leave no witnesses. The sheer fact that they can get away with half of what they do without causing World War 3 is a testament to their skill and lethality. Hell, the whole reason Adler mind controlled them was because traditional interrogation techniques just wouldn't work on the bastard. And with a willpower like Bell's even that only gets you so far...
As Purseus's plan unraveled, more dark secrets about both sides were revealed. The United States had secretly inserted nuclear weapons inside of allied nations "just in case" they needed to be detonated, and Purseus was planning to activate them to turn the world against the US. Cornered and desperate, Adler had no choice but to dive even further into Bell's mind... inadvertently allowing them to break free of their control in the process.
Bell had seen the worst sides of both halves of the Cold War. Seen that both were perfectly happy to kill billions for their own benefit. The Cold War wasn't a war of ideology, it was two dying empires using foreign nations as a chess board to stroke their ego. And now Bell, fully themselves again, had to choose which one would decide the fate of history.
Should Bell choose to rejoin their Soviet Allies, they'll get the rare pleasure of facing the legendary Alex Mason in combat. The one who fought his way out of a gulag with just a rusty handgun. The one who, when under Soviet mind control, assassinated John F Kennedy. And they would have the even rarer pleasure of killing him.
Early in that very game, Mason would survive an aircraft wing falling right on top of him and get up completely unharmed. A 48,000 kg aircraft wing falling from a height of 48 meters would hit with a force of roughly 1686 kilojoules. And Bell could still kill him.
Of course, the cost of that honor would be allowing Purseus to kill billions. Would it be worth it? Which of these rotting empires deserves the world on a string? And which is the least likely to have Bell killed once the choice is made?
Throwdown Theme:
youtube
Throwdown Breakdown:
This fight has a few moving parts to it, so lets break this down.
First off, Bell is certainly more skilled. While the Deputy taking down Jacob Seed is nothing to scoff at, Bell taking on Alex Mason impresses me a fair bit more, as well as soloing entire Soviet Army bases and having official training from both sides of the Cold War. Secondly, the Deputy's arsenal, surprisingly, isn't that much more advanced or versatile than Bell's. Shovel launcher and space guns aside, the two actually share some weapons, like the SPAS 12. That and I don't think the Deputy's traversal tools are all that helpful here. They're fairly circumstantial and in the event they can use it, the wingsuit would really just give Bell the chance to snipe them while they can't fight back.
Despite that, I do think The Deputy would win a straight up fight. They are hilariously faster than Bell for starters, who has no real superhuman speed feats to scale to, and Bell cannot possibly prepare for an antigravity space gun or homing rocket launcher.
That said... this isn't a straight up fight. Bell is a stealth operative and if The Deputy makes this a straight up fight, than Bell can just drop a smoke grenade and disappear again. The Deputy has been canonically defeated nine times by people far less skilled than Bell using simple ambush tactics and stealth is Bell's whole specialty. If they can raid an army base during the Cold War and not start World War 3, they can get the drop on the Deputy.
And once they do, they only need to hit the cop with a tranquilizer. Or snap their neck with their five times strength advantage (1686 kilojoules vs 368 kilojoules). Sure The Deputy could dodge the bullet, but that'd require them to see it coming first.
In hindsight, we shouldn't be suprised the nonbinary communist kills the cop.
This Throwdown's Winner is...

We have to start having serious discussions on white supremacy in Norse (and not) pagan spaces.
I am going to start with a TW: white supremacy and depictions of white supremacist symbolism. Also, I focus on Norse paganism and The United States here because i am a Norse pagan and it is what I know best of, but feel free to provide your own insight.
I am in an inclusive Norse Pagan discord and we recently have been discussing the importance of bringing to light the origins of Norse Paganism in America and it’s ties to white supremacy. This is something that i rarely see actually addressed other than that it exists and the sentiment that we “not racist practitioners” could never be a part of it because all white supremacy in Norse pagan spaces is the outright nazis who co-opt the religion. My question those who say this is this. How many of you are aware that the first Norse pagan groups in the United States were directly and overtly tied to white supremacy? Like be honest. Most of us know that there are WS groups like the AFA, we know that many alt-rights militia use “Norse imagery”, and that groups who call themselves Odinists are dog whistles. But, why do we never address the elephant in the room and how to combat it? We act like Norse paganism in America is being co-opted by Nazis when the reality is much more complicated. We as Norse pagans have to start addressing this more directly and educating OURSELVES and others.
I am going to show a picture of the section divider pages in a very popular pagan prayer book. Maybe the most popular pagan prayer book.
Tumblr media
This is the display page in the green edition of the Book of Pagan Prayer by Ceisiwr Serith. An otherwise well organized multi faith prayer book is using a black sun as it’s background. There is no pagan symbol that predates the Nazis’ usage of the black sun. It was created by Nazis most likely as some part of their bs esotericism. Why is it here in this book? Why do i constantly see Nazi bullshit in pagan books? Why do we constantly turn a blind eye? Though this example is not a book solely for Norse paganism I can think of about 10 Norse pagan books off the top of my head that use racist imagery or rhetoric knowingly or unknowingly.
It is irresponsible to be a pagan who practices from a Western European tradition and not know about racist symbolism and white supremacy’s influence on and perversion of your tradition. And I think I am putting that very nicely. There is a vast difference between using symbols co-opted by the American (and just anywheres ws) alt-right and explaining how they were not always connected to WS (ex: people wearing mjolnir pendants, using the Othala rune, etc.) and using symbolism and rhetoric created by white supremacists and either ignoring or being ignorant to their history and implications. If you want to fight against white supremacy in pagan spaces you cannot be lazy. You must do your research and you must be vocal about it. White supremacists are not as small of a group in Norse paganism (or paganism in general) as we would like to think. It is loud, it is pervasive, and it is growing. You cannot fight that by minding your own business and being quiet. And you can’t just say you follow the faith and keep it out of politics. Religion in general tries to be apolitical but it just can’t be. Norse paganism especially cannot be.
This problem is something that has made me question and wrestle with my faith to the point of almost walking away entirely multiple times. I even hesitate to call myself a Norse pagan because of it still. I think ultimately, it is a hard truth that we don’t want to look at because it means questioning your faith and yourself. It means changing your faith and traditions and critically reflecting on your own biases. But it must be done. We have to talk about it. The organizing of American Norse paganism started as a white supremacist movement. Point blank period. That means a large portion of information dispersed and ideology were created by white supremacists. How do we reconcile with that? What do we do about that? What is our job as Norse pagans against white supremacy to combat that? I urge you to think about these things. We need more education and we need more voices. We need to be willing to divert from “tradition” and create our own. Many of us intend to be reconstructionist but the reality is much of that reconstruction was written by racists in the 70s. We know very little about the historical reality of our faith. We gotta do better y’all.
If you are interested i can give some resources on the history of Heathenry, Asatru, and Norse paganism in America. Obviously I’m not a genius and i might’ve made mistakes so please feel free to politely add or counter my thoughts!

I just started hearing about all this nonsense about being “black before gay” or “gay before black”, and um… has it not occurred to anyone that you can be both…?
Are you a woman before you’re black? No. You’re a black woman. Same way you can be a disabled black person, or an alternative black person. You can be, and are, multiple things at the same time.
So why is it that you can’t be both black and gay? Why is that a problem for people? Because you believe that blackness is inherently like white supremacy? Bigoted? Narrow? Ignorant? Hateful?
Let me just make sure to spell this out for anyone who has this ignorant mindset that my blackness somehow can’t exist within my queerness….
I am a black queer. Point blank period.
When I go into queer spaces, I am spreading my black queerness all over the place. When I am in black spaces, I am doing the exact same thing. I refuse to leave my queerness out when talking about being black, and I refuse to leave my blackness out when talking about being queer. When I talk about literally anything about myself, I am centering my blackness and queerness.
Case closed.

re: 1989 vault tracks- slut surprised me because I thought it would be less of a sincere ballad and more of a tongue in cheek satirical song like blank space, but it was good and it's growing on me. say don't go supremacy. now that we don't talk is criminal that it's not longer. suburban legends is kinda mid. and is it over now is perfect no notes.

What's your take on the space elements in mega man? Are they connected in your headcanon or is it a different case?
I don't mind the space elements. Bitching about them is like, bitching that Proto Man exists (aka whining about something that has been there since the third game). They certainly are a way to expand into the game's world, giving the idea of things that are larger than what we are dealing with. I do find it odd, however, how only Classic dove a bit deeper into space while other parts of the main time-pocket lines don't go nearly as deep.
This makes them feel very underdeveloped, but then again, a lot of things in the games are (we didn't even KNOW where Rock lives until around the 8th game and the city isn't really named but we DO know it's near real-life Massachusetts because of Dr. Light being a teacher in a fictional version of the city, how several robot masters have unknown builders, and this is only on Classic's end) and sometimes it's okay to fill in the blanks. Not every game needs 37 pages of lore about Fire Man's role.
The only issue I have is the lost potential with the whole Evil/Justice energy debacle. You could write a lot of interesting scenarios with these.
As for over here, it's a long story.
It goes like this:
Sunstar (as Sol) gets built by an ancient alien ciivlization as a peacekeeping robot. Around the same time or slightly earlier, Nyx was made as an Hypercomputer to help manage resources, data, etc.
Some time later, Nyx, with the help of a certain program, makes Duo, who gets put with Sol in order to learn how to peacekeep and everything. The two robots end up being friends in a period.
Terra gets made a bit later as a conqueror unit, but is mostly separated, going through a rigid, near abusive training process. Sol notices it and thinks it's not necessarily fair.
As the time passes by, Sol keeps noticing that things in the civilization aren't fair or right - robots are discriminated, the aliens do not help the other civilizations out of actual altruism, etc. This is all bottled down.
The aliens eventually had the idea of making smaller copies of Nyx to spread amongst the universe and bring peace and understanding in order to make sure of their supremacy.
One day, while Duo was researching different energy types, he ended up contaminating a Nyx clone with a mysterious purple aura. That infected Nyx quickly multiplied and went rogue, calling itself Ra Moon, and it was only due to the combined efforts of Sol and Duo that the computers didn't destroy the civilization, but the orbs had escaped and spread onto the universe. Duo tried, but he was stopped by the aliens, who essentially said that problem wasn't theirs to deal with.
That was the VERY straw that broke the camel's back with Sol, who got so angry that he went through a rampage and killed 98% of the population, in the process, freeing Terra, injuring Duo and killing his own creator. From that day, Sol became Sunstar, and Terra joined him shortly after.
The status quo for a while was "Sunstar goes to a place in the universe, tries to conquer/battles Ra Moon, Duo shows up, Duo beats the shit out of Sunstar/Sunny boy flees, Ra Moon is defeated and Sunstar is put out of commission" with the Stardroids slowly joining the party, one by one, for several reasons ranging from Ra Moon razing their place to personal vendettas to even the glory and fame.
Meanwhile, Ra Moon stationed in a planet full of alien ninjas. He promised peace to the three warring clans, and all was fine until he backstabbed them. Eventually, taking a few of the ninjas, he fled the dying planet to Earth, where he hid as he knew the stardroids would come to look for him next.
And then there was the day Duo got so sick of Sunstar and the Stardroids' shit he sealed them away and the hoped no one would unseal them. Well, he hoped wrong.

radfems don’t want you dead. we have different politics but we don’t want you to suffer or die or get thrown in jail. and if someone does - they are not a radfem, they are a transphobe. In the radfem circles I am a part of, the use of transphobic slurs or other transphobic behaviour IS looked down upon and condemned
I’m tempted to call bullshit. At this point the term radical feminism, which in and of itself is like. Fine. Has been so overtaken by terfs and “gender critical” assholes that it’s literally the same. There’s no way to untangle the two. I realize that at its bare bones definition radical feminism is literally just… what point-blank feminism should be (simply put, getting rid of the patriarchy) but in its current form the movement is full of women who think that trans women are part of male supremacy, and they’re just not. It is literally common advice in the trans community to block radfems on sight because the chances they’re a terf are just too great.
Saying that transphobes aren’t radfems is part of the issue, too. It’s like back when your average feminist was saying “white feminists aren’t really feminists, they’re just racist.” They are radfems, and if non-transphobic radfems want their movement to be taken seriously and/or considered at all as a valid and inclusive movement by trans people, you need to start making radfem spaces unsafe for transphobes and stop letting them take over your movement. And unfortunately, at this point, I don’t think that’s possible.

It's hard for me to feel bad about the fall of Thessia when they had MONTHS to jump in and help.
Except they didn't.
They waited until THEY needed help, then asked Shepard to help humanity and the rest of the galaxy by helping the asari. Don't get me wrong, I do feel bad for the asari civilians, but High Command and Councilor Tevos can kiss my ass.
"Maybe next time the Alliance could spring for air support," Liara says as you're getting swamped by cannibals and marauders. Or maybe they should have jumped sooner and we would have had an easier time getting to that beacon, like maybe BEFORE the Reapers even arrived in asari space. Instead they tried to maintain their supremacy by consolidating their power instead of aiding their allies, and ultimately doomed their homeworld because they were too proud.
It's ironic that Councilor Sparatus spends the first two games being an aggressive passive-aggressive ass, but by the third game ultimately sees that working together is the only way they all get what they want in the end, which is to fucking survive and defeat an incredibly powerful enemy for good. Tevos is great at lip service and then not doing anything, and Valern feels like a yes-man to Tevos, tbh. I like him a little more than Tevos, but it really does feel like he just defers to whatever Tevos says, but I've already made a post about that.
A different but related subject: No matter what anyone says, the fact that Cerberus knew where Shepard would be (RE: the beacon on Thessia) and beat her there in the first place will never. Make. Sense.
No one except the asari councilor/High Command, Shepard, and a select few of the Normandy crew even knew about the beacon's potential to know what the Catalyst was. Even if you could claim Cerberus agents were embedded in High Command or had agents who knew members of High Command, there was no reason to wait for Shepard to show up to activate the beacon. They'd been using the beacon for centuries to make sure they kept their edge and superiority, so they clearly knew how to operate it and obtain information from it (they just never found info about the Catalyst because no one knew they needed it; plus, the beacon's VI was programmed not to even reveal that info until the Crucible was completed).
You could make the claim that whoever tipped off Cerberus about it didn't know how to work the beacon, and thus couldn't have told this mystical agent anything other than that it existed, thus Shepard HAD to show up to unlock it--but I just don't buy that. I don't, and I refuse to.
And THAT filters into Kai Leng being a terrible and poorly written antagonist, I guess. 99% of all the issues I have with ME3's plot involve Kai Leng (the other 1% is the whole "salvation through destruction" nonsense). All of his scenes and "victories" require the plot and previous character development for Shepard and her companions to twist themselves into pretzels to make sense.
Example? I don't know about you guys, but my typical Citadel Coup Squad consists of Garrus and Javik, and obviously Shepard. That puts three highly trained soldiers with previous experience fighting Reapers and their minions in the same place at the same time on the same team. Indigo is an infiltrator, thus there are two SNIPERS and then three overall EXPERT MARKSMEN on this team. Then you have Thane: the trained ASSASSIN since he was six years old.
You're telling me a master assassin with biotic capabilities, an ancient career soldier with a literal lifetime's worth of Reaper-fighting experience and biotic capabilities, an ex-C-Sec officer vigilante famous for being a master sniper, and the literal fucking Hero of the Citadel, Spectre agent, N7 Special Forces operative who's also a master sniper and career soldier all forgot how to aim and hit a target at point blank range? Or forgot they had biotics capable of killing? Bull. Shit.
And that pretty much goes for any squadmates you can bring with you onto the Citadel! Ashley/James/Kaidan? Career soldiers. Tali? Not a career soldier, but still a good shot. Liara? Pure biotic! She could have lifted Leng or slammed a chair into him hard enough to incapacitate him a la Vasir on Illium. EDI? Programmed to be an excellent shot, presumably. Like.
And don't come at me with "well, Kai Leng was also an N7!" Don't care. There is no way you could convince me that Kai Leng was a worthy adversary. His temperament alone puts him at a disadvantage to Shepard. Cool, level-headed Shepard literally gets a rise out of him at Cerberus HQ when she tells him he's a coward bc all he does is run away. He tells her to shut up rather aggressively, which in this context shows his immaturity and incompetence. The only reason he "won" on Thessia was plot armor, and not even the good kind. Saren had good plot armor on Virmire; he wasn't supposed to die yet, so the plot was that he saw that he was going to lose that krogan breeding facility no matter what, and booked it to fight later on Ilos and the Citadel. KL's boring, pathetic, whiny, and childish. Furthermore, him being on Thessia makes no sense, and that whole priority mission was a mess.

You have to remove one song from every Taylor Swift album.
Who are we losing and why? ⭐️
i hope you know this took over an hour and a lot of hard thinking… also i did not include ronan, soon you’ll better, or marjorie as options because i also don’t include them in album rankings or anything like that
debut: stay beautiful… listen i know it’s a cute song i just personally have no attachment to it
fearless (tv): the piano version of forever and always… i just think it makes forever and always so slow and there are other songs that could’ve done better with a piano version… i’m also a firm believer in angry taylor supremacy so i like how angry the regular version of forever and always sounds
speak now: mean… now i love this song and it was literally my favorite song for so long i just think it doesn’t sound right on speak now like it sticks out and not in a good way
red (tv): girl at home… i love girl at home but the clubification of girl at home really killed it for i loved the original version so much more but alas i do not own the deluxe version of stolen red so i listen to girl in the club version
1989: welcome to new york… once again love this song as i love all of her songs but again i think it’s the weakest link on 1989… i mean how it supposed to compete with blank space, style, ootw, i wish you would, and all the other bangers on 1989
reputation: so this took about 40 minutes of deliberation and i had to consult my girlfriend to talk out my thoughts… but i think maybe the answer here is dress just because i think the album would still feel complete without dress
lover: i think my answer here is the man… once again because i think lover as an album could survive without the man on the album even thought i love the song and what it says the album is about love in all its forms and you could argue that even i forgot that you existed is about finding a new form of self love/acceptance/appreciation and i think the man is the only song that isn’t really about love in some form
folklore: betty… i do not like james in the folklore triangle and i don’t like the way he talks about trying to get betty back but also i feel like this was the song that got overplayed super fast and because of it i got tired of betty very fast
evermore: dorothea… i love dorothea but once again i think evermore could survive without it and i love the tis the damn season and dorothea storyline but i think it’s the damn season would still be a popular song

A Complete List of the Posts in the Chanoyu-to-wa Translation of the Nampō Roku, Part 2:  Books Six and Seven.
Tumblr media
◎ Sixth Book of the Nampō Roku [六・南方錄].
Book Six contains a series of essays that explain secret details of things originally mentioned in the first five books.  According to a comment attributed to Rikyū, after he read the contents of this book, he ordered Nambō Sōkei to destroy it -- because such teachings should not be preserved in writing (where they could all too easily fall into the wrong hands), but only transmitted orally (when the teacher decides that the disciple is ready to receive those teachings).  The protection of these teachings is said to have been the idea that inspired Sōkei to acquire the secure wooden chest in which he kept his papers
Spurious additions are primarily limited to some of the kaki-ire [書入], and, apparently, to occasional insertions insinuated into blank spaces in the original text.

◎ Seventh Book of the Nampō Roku [七・南方錄].
Tachibana Jitsuzan originally intended to follow the precedent of the Rikyū chanoyu sho [利休茶湯書] (published in 1580, and based on an earlier selection of Shū-un-an documents), and arrange the teachings in a series of six books.  However, after doing so with the documents that were indispuitably authentic, Jitsuzan decided to gather everything else that remained into a seventh book, while attempting to arranging the contents in a certain order -- from those that were most likely written or collected by Nambō Sōkei, and those that had somehow managed to find their way into the wooden chest in the decades between Sōkei’s death and Jitsuzan’s gaining access to the collection circa 1586 (many of which were clearly written by people who had no connection with either Sōkei or Rikyū).
Book Seven, then, consists of a collection of essays on a wide range of topics, at least theoretically related to the chanoyu of Rikyū’s period (though sometimes representing deliberate attempts to insert Edo period ideas into this earlier collection, in an attempt to give them historical validity).  While it was claimed that everything in the book was written by Nambō Sōkei in the several hours between the end of the dawn service on the third anniversary of Rikyū’s seppuku and the time when he would have had to leave the Shū-un-an [集雲庵] so as to walk into the mountains and so join Rikyū’s spirit in death, the length of the book (as well as the dramatic variability in the language) makes it obvious that Tachibana Jitsuzan indiscriminately included everything that remained in Sōkei’s wooden chest that could not be worked into one of the earlier six books. This book is, by far, the longest in the Nampō Roku -- and contains the largest dose of spurious material as well.  Indeed, it is the conflict of these spurious teachings with what is explained in earlier entries in the first six books that has lead subsequent generations of scholars to cast doubt (as well as aspersions) on the authenticity of the whole Nampō Roku.  Only by taking a careful look at the language of each individual entry will help to determine when each was added to the collection, and by whom.
